Can we have a forum for "older" people with bc?

Hi Wren.
(Waving to you too) So glad we got to spend some time with you and your husband in Seattle. 0 -
Hi Sandra. Really fun to have lunch. I hope the rest of your sightseeing went as planned. I'll give you a holler if we ever get back to San Antonio. One day I'd like to see the river walk at Christmas.

I lost Wrens post. But I will be in San Antonio in early December with a bunch of old ladies like me on a bus trip and staying on the river walk. Is it Wren or Sandra living there?
Chevy a hummer sounds like just the thing. The best I've got is a six passenger golf cart made by Bad Boy and all painted in camouflage. Will that do?

And so who is "Bad Boy"? Is HE the one we have concerns about? So camouflage will do the trick? In the bushes I mean, or are me and Cammi in the bushes?
This has gotten so disgugurativelyrupted that I'm almost confused! Is Bad Boy your husband? And you are off to meet the felon? The time is bearing down upon us Cammi... we have to be more observant now.... She is meeting him in the Woods... somewhere near Pocono.... I think that was where.
Okay, so you know what I did yesterday? I was up on this little step-stool, trying to reach something in back of this box in the cupboard, and I could not reach it.... even on tip-toes. So I put THAT short stool back, and got the 2 step step stool.... and it worked great! I got it all put away...
So stepping back, I must have thought I was on the FIRST little stool, but NOOOoooooooooooo, I was on the 2nd step, so I dropped about 2 feet down to the floor! You know how much THAT scared me? OMG, and I didn't even FALL! I stood up against the washer, and almost cried.... I just stood there thanking GOD that I made it out of THAT one okay! I only have one good hip left to go.... I then promised myself I wouldn't do THAT again, without holding on to that rail, and I have to be more careful!
Yes carefuller. And nothing hurts this morning! I thought for sure I twisted that bad hip.... probably scared IT 1/2 to death too! I am almost a hazard to myself.
Okay gals.... you are all on the last page, so I'll post this for now.... I'm off and running.... well, off anyway.

Whew !!!! Glad you are in one piece and feeling okay Chevy. You are right -- some of we well-seasoned women just have to learn to do thing differently now. Can't be so sure, and flamboyant as we used to be.
Well, I know because I went through a time when I just couldn't seem to stay on my feet like I should. The exercising and walking ( and losing wt. hasn't hurt a thing ) has made a big difference. The lady who teaches the nutrition class does say that the number 1 reason that older people tend to "fall" so much easier -- is that we do tend to slow down, carry more wt. and not exercise ( translates for me into sitting too long in front of my beloved computer ) enough. So, the structures that help you stand tall and upright rather firmly start to give way. One day when you are reaching for something or take a step before you are fully prepared, or have something jar you in an odd way --- there you are on the ground not quite sure what happened.
I never quite connected falling ( for older people ) to the fact that their muscles have become weak enough to not be able, in certain situations, to support them well enough to keep them from losing balance and ending up topsy-turvy and on the ground.
Okay -- nuff' of what I don't know which is a whole lot more than what I do.
San Antonio -- I loved it ( though it was so long ago ) when I was there in the 60's. I would not recognize anything now -- but still have that sensation of charm which seems to still be just as evident and feellable as it was then.
Mimi, you are being ganged up on by some of the 'over the hill and sliding fast gang'.
Carole, I don't know how you manage to write in such a way that I hang on every word. You make it so easy to enjoy vicariousness.
Blessings
Jackie

Chevy, so glad you are okay ... and a good reminder for me to hold on and pay attention. I sometimes get distracted on my walks and catch a toe in a crack in the road which leads to a scary feeling and arm flapping to regain balance ... scary and probably funny to see.
Mimi, it's been years since I was in San Antonio. My regret is missing the market that was outside the River Walk area but on the trolley line. Friends bought beautiful pottery there.

Okay Jackie, so what is "vicariousness" ?? Is it something I ought to know about? Not to mention CAMMI????
Carole is a writer.... an author, so she can fool around with words in ways we know nothing about..... She doesn't write as haphazard, as say.... I do..... Ha! Cammi and I probably drive her nuts, with the words of no significance that we use.
Yes Sally.... I don't know HOW I remained upright! But it really scared me! I thanked GOD so much, he probably wanted to hit me over the head to shut UP!
Going out to the mills.... practice walking....
I can do it without a cane, if I wear my higher wedgie Crocs! I don't know why.... But I walk straighter with them on. I just can't step on rocks and twist my ankle.... so if I pay attention, that's all I have to do..... You know Jackie, we fall, no matter what age.... I had to "learn how to fall" when I took acrobats when I was a kid.... So maybe that has helped me with all the other falls I have participated in..... The trick is, is to roll with the fall.... just like hunker-down into a ball, and roll with the splat. Don't stick your hand out first.... use your arms, side, and even hip.... all at once.... But if you REALLY fall, like on cement, all bets are off. I actually DID fall on my hip, and my arm, but I first went up, and then down, so I think that's why it broke. At least my arm didn't break at the same time.... and not my RIGHT arm! I was thinking that.... I NEED it to roll up my hair, and put make-up on! And cook! Important things! So it could have been worse.
Yes.... we are all out looking for ways to protect Meemers from this ..... this MEET-UP she is planning! We are planning our next move.... That's if I can ever find Cammi.

Mimi, it's meeeeeeeee!!! I'm your San Antonio girl and I can't wait to see you. The city is beautiful any time of year but Christmas on the Riverwalk is truly special. Send me the dates you will be here and where you will be staying. I'll check out what's happening during your visit.

Sandra. I'll be on a group tour so there will be plenty planned. But I could skip something in favor of lunch or coffee or anything else for a while to meet you. I'll get exact dates to you ASAP. We leave Iowa on a bus Monday or Tuesday after thanksgiving. What fun!
Chevy so glad you didn't fall or injure your ankle stepping that gigantic step down. I've done something similar before. We just get too confident. I have grab bars surrounding the shower. Looks like playground equipment.
Bad Boy is the make of my six person golf cart. By the way I don't golf. Just drive the grands around to the beach In it. We needed lots of space for sand toys and snacks. The color is camouflage. The thing is really designed for hunting, which is not for me. Hope whatever Chevy retrieved off that high shelf was tastey. Hmm. Snack time here.

Will someone else volunteer to post a message to remind us about upcoming birthdays? I can legitimately claim brain damage since I've had a stroke, but prefer to admit I am horrible at remembering to check the list.I am horrible at remembering to check the list.
Here's what I have. Someone please take it over and get all the birth dates and names we are missing. Thanks

Oh Sandra, I can't be a part of this.... I can barely remember my own name.... Ha! Am I the oldest one HERE? Or ANYWHERE? I'll bet not on this earth, but maybe around YOU all, I am!
Cammi..... we should pretend we are not a part of this.... it's going to get us into trouble, I can just FEEL it.
MEEMERS! Thank God you are still with us! Nope, I was organizing those shelves with the light-bulbs, tapes, etc, and the whole problem was, I didn't use the hand-rail across the top to step down, or even see where I was! I HAD been using the shorter stool, so in my mind.... (don't say NOTHIN' Cammi) I was still on that stool I guess.
Ha, ha Meemers! "Bad Boy"!!!! That's a good one! My DD in Orlando would take me and the dog out on her golf cart zipping around that golf-course at night, so we could swipe grape-fruit and oranges off the neighbors trees! Hah! We would whisper and just laugh our butts off, thinking the Po-po would come and arrest us!
Then we would park, and just sit out by the lake and enjoy our talks! Being ever so vigilant watching out for fire-ants and sirens.

Good Morning ladies,
whew Chevy u'r right Carole and Jackie and actually spell and write where I can understand, all the women are good. And I do think of Carole reading my crap I don't even use the right words. Another thing Missy there is a total difference between a Unicorn and Pegasus (I love Pegasus, BTW) Actually I thought u could be the back end of Pegasus, U notice Meemers isn't talking about this -Man in the scary woods--much now. And it was Anne who said that someone called cuz they said they were the 17th cousin twice removed from her deceased DH--yeah like I'd fall for that one.--When I was working there was a couple with the same last name as mine--my name is a little unusual) and they would always say they were my brothers cousin, so of course they didn't have any waiting and everyone got them out fast--I worked on the other side for Titles and Reg. and finlly someone told me oh u'r cousins came in, well wouldn't u think they would know I'm here and talk to me. They just said that--they were not related--(My brother was a political fancy pancy then) So people do these things, so u have to be careful. How did I get on this nonsense.
I like all the hook-ups going on in TX--it's where it happening--it used to be CO but not now.
Chevy good thing u didn't get hurt expecially having to do suchimportant work---Oh my phones are going and again I said nothing,

Does anyone use a calendar on a regular basis. That would be a good way to keep up with the birthdays. Well, at least Sandra, you got the list entered here, so if one of us decides they can do it, we can start from there.
If anyone does decide for sure -- please say so. Then we would all know for sure and not duplicate efforts. Of course, since I do post a quote everyday --- I am thinking about it. My consideration at the moment and this is coming up the very end of this week ---- is that I do occasionally have short stretches where I work for 10 to 12 hours a day. Dr. and wife are going on an anniversary trip for a week --- so I get some extra work and will have a nice long week of it. I really don't mind as it is not hard -- just fairly time consuming while things at home here go to pot.
I did have my birthday on the 13th. and just didn't say anything. A lot was going on at the time so I just let it go. Anyway -- I reached the wonderful age of 69 -- still quite young, and will be a good long while before I have to say ( OMG, I'm 70 ) which won't feel any worse than 69 when I get there. As stated -- after giving up ( it's been a yr. now ) Anastrozole and working at exercising and losing wt. and keeping a positive attitude, if I didn't know anything about comparisons or the jokes routinely made about well seasoned people or anything negative connected to age in any way --- I'd say mentally I'm far, far younger -- like maybe 55. Age is after all just a number. Sometimes we give that number an awful lot of un-deserved credit.
Anyway, off to see what else I can get into for the morning. It's a fairly nice one. Brighter than yesterday, though the sun did come out. I went to work late -- and stayed till around supper-time. So, Dr. and Mrs. B sent me home with some very delicious cheese and crackers, meatballs, and delectable fruit. It was served at a reception ceremony for the Dr. I love when I don't have to cook --- and so Dh and I had a great non-heavy supper and still have a bit left.
Blessings,
Jackie
