INSOMNIACS place to talk in the wee hours

The hospital called and set up my latest CT Scan. Just waiting for them to call back and register me! Worst part of the CT Scan is that I hate the crap they give you to drink!

Nettie I wanted to say something about your walking deal. Are you saying that it doesn't hurt after just during?I started walking my youngest to school and during the walk I'm usually okay, its after that I'm worn out and hurting. I'm assuming it is just residual from the chemo still. Anytime I get up from a sitting or laying position it hurts, my knees, feet and ankles. I HOPE this stops, but idk. My back hurts too, if I've been up washing dishes or any housework it hurts. bleh, I feel like it's gotta improve right?

mommy-good luck on the scan! I've never had to drink anything..just had stuff put in by port or IV that makes me feel like I'm gonna pee myself LOL
0 -
Yes Tang, mine only hurts during the walking and it starts within just a few minutes of "exercise" walking! And if I stand at my sink to do anything, wash dishes, clean veggies, anything, my back will feel like it's on fire! And also, as soon as I stop walking, the pain immediately stops! Now as for the back pain, that takes a while to go away and as I'm sure you've read on this thread, I've had back issues since the end of Rads, but Doctors keep telling me there is no need to scan!

Smarrty, soooooooo true LOL. Spookie and I both have Birenstocks toeless, just so we can where socksTang, I used to do furniture when I was young. If you can afford it have someone else strip it. There is no fun or creativity in the stripping. Just mess. The fun comes from staining if you choose to stain. Stain is method of choice when there's more than one type of wood. With a piece that is all one type of wood, consider just clear coating. I used to use polyurethane-- 3 coats. Sand in between with steel wool with the grain. First sanding--zero steel wool, second sanding--00 steel wool, third sanding 000 steel wool. The sanding between coats is meant to sand off the dust that landed. Leave at least 48 hours -72 hours between coats. Polyurethane b/c it's waterproof. Three coats is a very solid surface. Minwax products. Disposable sponge brushes reduces clean up and streaks. Use one brush for each coat then pitch. Have heard that there are durable products that can be applied in one coat, but not familiar with them or how they look or feel when done. If they really work, they'd be great.
Ebola: The press is castigating Presby. Too bad. It's really NIH and CDC that should be taking the hit. There should have been National Practice Guidelines for Infectious disease for management of this. There are bugs and then there are bugs. Everyone has your regular bug protocols. Ebola is way beyond normal practice.
If such guidelines exist, they must be sitting on a shelf getting moldy. The POSITIVE is there will be a national effort to take everything learned from this and guidelines from A_Z will be written. The reason this is true is----A national guideline wouldn't leave any details out. i.e what to do with the trash. OOps.
Why in Africa can they know in 12 hours if someone's blood tests positive and here confirmation happens in two days b/c it has to be sent to the CDC.------ Now someone will produce a rapid test like the Strep and Mrsa tests.
I remarked before about the numerous times they said the Nurse didn't notify. That it was put in the electronic record. AND I remarked that the doc did't read the nursing record. DUH. Presby saying that it didn't flow over to the Doc's record. They are totally avoiding the fact that the docs should have been reading /reviewing the nursing record. They don't. Always PO'd me that all the ER/ Floor time spent doing that extensive documentation and no one reads it. (Some docs do). Anything really important would be verbally said. Shouldn't be, but it is what is.
No one's analyzing the process that the Doc used on the Thurs. visit. Was it an appropriate exam or sloppy?
Now soooooooo many people are going to be admitted in the forseeable future to CYA.

Mags! You crack ME up.... ! Ha, ha! We have to keep our eyes on these girls.... they just run rampant if we aren't watching.... What was that Spookie was talking about again? What were we supposed to Google? Something about a Restaurant? Or is she just trying to fluff over her flub?
And Nettie, if we have to come out there and straighten out all those people, we WILL!! I mean what kind of people are these?
Don't they know that our pets are our kids? And I LOVE the little Black one! Ah Geez, if I go back a page to find her name, I will lose this.... But she is beautiful with her bows! Sass? The Press is castrating the Pres? Is that what you said? Or Presbyterian? I don't exactly know what we are talking about....
Ebola.... okay.... But they all say.... even Smarty says, that you have to come in direct contact with this sick person.... I mean CLOSE! It just doesn't sound that pertainable to me.... I have to get Cammi to weigh in on this.... Maybe we should be worried, but I'm not right now....
And Spook? WHAT? You are feeling puny? What is wrong with you?
Okay.... I have to go look busy doing something......

ty tang
I know what you mean as soon as they put the crud in by IV it makes me feel as if I'm gonna pee myself too in addition to the crap I have to drink, supposed to be berry flavored but it don't taste it lol

Sas-it sounds like alot of work to refinish...haha, maybe I'll try something REALLY small first.I saw that the hospital was trying to blame the mistake on their software. It seems to me that if someone came in presenting those symptoms and said they are from Liberia...that it would be a huge alarm! idk, I'm not experienced with how the ER works, it just seems very hard to understand how it happened. When I've gone into the ER I've had to tell 3-4 people including the doctor why I'm there and what the circumstances are.
nettie-I feel you on all of the walking/housework thing. It sucks and while I am ready to kick start life again, my body is just not quite there yet.
btw ladies, I am forcing dh to the doctor tomorrow. I've been on him this last year because he has diabetes and doesn't take care of it at ALL. He told me that twice this week he's felt sweaty, dizzy and really tired at work. I said that is it you are going. Tomorrow he's seeing the doctor and he's scared he's gonna get yelled at. He's a baby....He never would have made it thru BC tx! anyway...I love the goof and can't have him getting sick on me.
0 -
Good for you tang! I'm the same way with mine when he is supposed to be doing something that he doesn't want to do! How can they take care of us, if they won't take care of themselves!
0 -
I'm type 2. Ask your DH how he feels about loosing his feet, going blind, and kidney dialysis over something that can BE CONTROLLED . We can't control bc.
0 -
Oh now Spookie.... I love ya honey..... don't go gettin' all upset.... SOME of our Husbands are a real PITA! But like me, we are in it for the long haul. My DH will not go to the Doctor either Tang.... unless we can't "fix" what is wrong with him.... Like I didn't study in that class about how to put in a pacemaker, so he had to have a surgeon do it.
No kidding! It got to where he had NO energy.... he could barely climb stairs... so after 2 weeks, he decided, that yes, okay, let's go get it checked out. Pacemaker the next morning, before he fell over on his head.
It has to be a matter of life or death before he will go.... So I figure he is a big boy now, so it's all on him.... Tell ME when you want to go.... I'm tired of listening to him complain about his little things.... I mean the things that are "wrong" with him.... cause he just says, he is going to die anyway someday...
So he has a different attitude than I do.... But I don't let it pull me down..... Onward and upwards friends.... Take care of yourself, and DLTBGYD!
After 57 years, I finally feel like I AM IN CHARGE!!!!!

Diabetes T2 uncontrolled can cause a slow and painful death. Loosing bits and pieces of body parts. I forgot a few se's. Like gastro paresis, PN. Heart attacks.

The conference call today from Dallas says the state got his sample at 9 am and knew by 1 pm it was positive. I think Texas has a very, very recent certification for testing - like maybe a few weeks. They did ship it to CDC to verify.
Yes good question who will develop rapid test or even more who will develop 1st vaccine.
Right on Spookie. Hope you are feeling better this afternoon.
Got flu shots done. Surprise - insurance does not cover it at a pharmacy. No way DH is getting to doc's office anytime soon so he had no qualms. I was within oh about a mile of it on Wed and would have gotten mine then but Nooo - we agreed to go together. Just about finished off health saving acct for this year. I know better now next year. Last year I went to sr. citizens' drive thru but haven't seen anything about it this year.
DD had no power last night. She's not far from the airport but her work even closer to airport is fine. She thinks maybe it's back on. Told her to "come on out" if it's still off. Says it was miserably hot in her apt. even with window open (2nd story thank goodness). Let her cats sleep with her as an "early warning" but she sleeps like a rock. She was so mad last night - I'm just going to bed - about 9:30, not at all her usual. Fall is here this weekend but summer comes back next week. Not looking good for grass fires this winter. We had the driest Sept on record.

thanks Luv. If those se's aren't enough to make you shape up, I don't know what would. A close friend of DH had pancreatic cancer. They took it out, instant T1. He never bothered to learn MDI. He was on peritoneal dialysis, then died. The ca didn't kill him. Diabetes did. I spent many many years on Am Diabetes forum helping newbies.
I seem to have the GI bug that's going around

Tang, well refinishing furniture is fun. Stripping it, is not worth a minute of your life. Dirty. Messy, stinky. AND a silky smooth finish people will always remark on. It's like quilts. Lot's of ohhing and ahhing...
The humans did screw up. Anything big, you do a verbal to the doc. The nurse should have gotten it. ER nurses are usually cool about that. Everyone in the business knows they didn't handle it well. The media is likely being fed by people that know. The triage nurse has the power to move a patient into a room right now. If she had caught it, she'd be a hero. The surprising one to me is the doc. If he was with the patient long enough to decided on antibx's he did an interview. Because the presentation was a typical virus thing. To think he had a bacterial GI thing were talking some nasty bugs, that would necessitate admission. Not sure at all what the ER doc was thinking. Either way I'm so, glad it's not me. Both the doc and nurses reputations are seriously damaged. Peer respect is huge in medical/nursing circles. Presby would have been better in the long run to own up to it and say so, then say let's move on. Now they are pedaling as fast as they can at damage control. The interesting thing is the hospital is owned by a company that owns like 60(? a bunch anyway) hospitals/ surgery center, and lots of stuff in Texas. Presby's Medicare outcome's are not as good as other hospitals in Texas. They have been improving over three years. Baylor's are superlative!. The medicare tracking doesn't track ER data though. But I'm sure the media will keep digging b/c Presby's so big. This is a huge story---Think Thyphoid Mary. It will go into the history books.
Good Luck with DH. The are such a pain in the ass with medical stuff.
Ah Chevy, the juices are flowing-- ER and Disaster and EMS. Presby was Tangs short name for Presbyterian
Off to dinner, Friday ritual that I have finally trained DBF that it's a necessity.

Yes THR (Texas Health Resources) owns bunches of stuff here and growing just about weekly. Per their website they own 25 hospitals though several have limited scope. They acquired most of these, few were built by the new corporation. Baylor as well has hospitals in Dallas as well as Ft. Worth and just associated with Scott and White from Temple. Looks like on quick glance they have just about as many as THR but many more assoc. ancillary services. See Baylor has a new joint venture with imaging company. Yes all in Dallas call it Presby but I see official name is either Texas Health Dallas or Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas (trying saying that 3 times).
DH making pizza. Yay, no cleanup.
What place gets your dinner business tonight Sassy?

You guys, be really careful about stripping any paint from any furniture! I did it outdoors, with long sleeves on, and gloves, and still wound up in the emergency room with severe reactions on my skin! Face swelled up, welts all over my body.... Just inhaling it will cause a bad reaction!
Had to take Prednisone.... and a few other drugs to get over it.... Same with Epoxy.... I just can't be around anything like that....
Maybe it was un-common for most people.... but even bug sprays, or plant sprays will do it.... chemicals can really cause problems, by just inhaling them....

Little goats, local watering hole. Nice little Italian restaurant. Decent food, priced right, clean LOL. Texas Health Resources--protecting the people or the corporate worth. Oh well, every facility in the USA is beefing up their protocols. Watching to see what else they can do. Hoping they don't have too. The public is learning. So, these are positives. Healthcare will be better for it. Communication between docs & nurses will be better. The amount of screenings will go way up, admissions way up. Appropriate or not. The next six months to a year are going to be different. No one's going to risk what's happened to Presbyterian. It's still hard for be to believe that the patient told the nurse that he was from Liberia, and never dropped it in the interview with the doc. Doesn't follow. Say it in one place and not the other. Doesn't compute. Patient educated enough to seek medical care, identify he was in Liberia. Then omit it with the doc?. I know repeating myself.

thanks for all the posts, have something to read on my phone during the day.
Chevy, been craving some good fried chicken, you really have me wanting it now.
Tang, I agree with Sassy that stripping furniture is such a pain. An old BF used to redo furniture, learned from him. Like Sassy said, lots of steel wool is the trick. Refinished a couple pieces on my own when I was single. Not an expert by any means, but have had my challenges. When I married DH he had a nice wooden table with a yucky white wash finish. We decided to refinish. Set it up outside, I left for a few minutes when I returned he had this wild idea to use a torch to melt the paint. Let's just say his idea didn't work, left a huge scorch mark on the table top. Bought a new table instead. When it came time to refinish a family desk, I wouldn't let him near it. Definitely was one of those projects that after I started it, was thinking, what did I get myself into? To this day, it's one of my favorite pieces of furniture in the whole house. If we get a divorce, I want that desk.
On a side note, could use some prayers for those of you who pray. Mom has a health issue, looking pretty nasty, Dad was supposed to get it checked out a couple weeks ago. I didn't push because of the legal paperwork SNAFU so Dad didn't follow thru. Tomorrow we will be taking her to urgent care or ER. Hoping it's not serious. Also, there's a job I have my eye on, just applied a day or two ago, have to test for it next week........

Hi Ladies---my puter is still crippled but I can stay on a little bit--but didn't read everything "sob" I hope and pray everyone is doing OK today and special prayers for a job and u'r mom.

My electrolytes are all off more meds, thyroid isn't working again and scans next week, My Onc. never likes how my ribs feel to her (One rib) she keeps on checking it or she might think it would be on her menu for BBQ--I'm not sure. I told her it's nothing, oh my sholder too. again I told her it's nothing and I know I'm right.

Morning Lovelies!
Blondie...I found a generic Mucinex at my
store... I think at Walmart, or the major grocery stores, if that helps.... Also a generic night-time cold tablet, like Nyquil. And I love Panera's also! The egg souffle's! But they
are expensive... just so tasty. Our whole Denver Post newspaper was Pink yesterday! I
know "their" intentions are good, but man did that look funny! Anyway, hope
you are feeling better!Oh WOW! 2222222222nd! I tried that one time! The heat
gun works well if you have mega-coats of paint on something, then it just gets
hot and peels off... But yes, if DH would have got that heat-gun in his hands,
we would have had a small blaze going on!Hope your Mom is alright..... Is she home with your Dad,
or in a nursing home? Must be home, or she would have been looked at... Your
Dad must have thought whatever it is would get better... I feel sorry for him
too....Oh CAMMIIIIiiiiiiiiii! Me from Chicago
here! What IS this? Me older than who was it? Methuselah or someone...
Remember? Of course not.So, NO, you are pretending that you don't know that
Italians have to be in charge? From just slicing a loaf of bread to buying
another car?Now you, who were born and raised Italian KNOW that is how
it goes... People should ASK you before stepping out of the house....Like, "oh I forgot... no open-toed shoes, or WOOPS, my
cleavage is showing, or why CAN'T I wear red! And even What's wrong with
sparkles on my top?Hah! These Italian Husbands would lock you up, rather
than take you anywhere looking like THAT!!!I drive him crazy! Yes honey, I AM going to go out
looking like this... DEAL!Or No, I am Not going to wear socks with these sandals!
I'm surprised I got to leave the house with Peddal-pushers
on! "Things" must be covered. Or else.....And so you are sickly again? You have problems with your
electricity? Or what is it you said? Electrolysis? It must be important,
whatever it is.... Maybe you need some hunk of a man to come check you out! I
mean SERiously!I mean I would if it were me.... I could get someone on
Craigs list for you....Oh? So you are getting "scanned"? For now what this
time? To see if you actually have a .... what is it.... a gall-bladder?
Nope.... a gizzard? Wait.... you mean a Thyroid? Close.....And you are going to a Barbecue with that guy from Craigs
list? Close to Chicago?Ha, ha! We could go on like this for
DAYS!And you have "customers?" Is THAT what they are? I TOLD
you gals! That Cammi keeps herself busy.... ummmmm.... YOU know....Little honey..... just rest.... we don't want you any
sicker than you are now.... I'll fix you some milk-toast.... and take 2
aspirin and call me in the morning.... xoxoxoJWOW! Yes I know what you mean.... "My
boys" are all grown up too.... But it was so fun being around them last
week... They ARE grown! But still live in our hearts as our little boys....
sniff again.....WTH MOmo! Hubby took the dog out? Of
where? Of what? You mean outdoors, and this is not a naturally occurring
happening?GoodGodGertie! We need a round of applause for THAT one!
Ha!The dog was probably jumping all over him in bed, and that
was the only way to get some peace and quiet...!Spookie.... are you feeling better? I
hope so!And so where is everybody ELSE? Sleeping? Have a
wonderful Saturday everyone!0 -

DH is making me crazy, that's where I am today, along with a headache and body aches all over. My right ribs (speaking of which) feel like they've been used as a punching bag.
So what is DH doing that is making me crazy? Look, I know his job is stressful. I mean, it really is. And I know he does a really good job of managing our finances and stuff. Especially with all the medical bills. (I swear, when this treatment nightmare is over, I never want to see another doctor again! I know, I'm dreaming.) But here's what he does. He lies down on the chaise end of the pit group with the remote, turns on the most awful show he can find (I know he does it on purpose) and falls asleep. He sleeps all evening, finally rouses himself and goes to bed, and then complains because he's wide awake at 3 or whatever. He's constantly exhausted. Last night I went to bed at 11, he was still asleep. I don't know if he ever came to bed. When I got up he was still on the couch snoring away, with something on Hulu that I couldn't even look at. After it ended, he woke up briefly and started it again because he didn't see it. Then fell asleep again. Man! I wish I could sleep like that! Except, I know it's not healthy. And he needs to stay healthy because who would take care of me?
Well gals, I'm going to stay down today. Take care of yourselves.

Chit, Texas Health Resources die LIE. Chit's really going to hit the fan even more now.It was proved more than a decade ago that when something medically--goes wrong, the best defense was to own the mistake by admitting to it. Apparently they missed that lesson.
Chevy Thanks for the morning wake up review. 12:30 now officially up.
Cami, hope your doc can figure it out.
2ta call when you need to talk.
Mags, Dh's and DBF's do this with the TV. Is it in their genes. I finally changed the rule here, DBF falls asleep, I watch what I want.
0 -
DH gets the long couch. I get the short loveseat in the other room. He works so I let him sleep where he wants. Equal TV/satellite setups in each room - well his TV is bigger but mine is newer. Lol. I do have to ask him to turn down the shoot em ups. OR is that siren on your TV or outside?
Just listened to CDC conference. Didn't glean much new. Have local ABC news on twitter account. Will get from them anything they found breaking news. They have a great medical reporter but bet she is off the weekend. Oh yes, they are going to wait 42 days (2 incubation cycles) before declaring the isolated contacts disease free. That is new.
Cami - hope your doc has some answers for you. But I know you'll them her what the scoop.
Chevy - that video was amazing. Did you see all the people waving?
2TA - prayers for your mom. Hope you and Dad get some answers today. AND really hope that job works out if it is the one. I still haven't read what I missed on about 10 pages or so. Will try to do that in next couple of days.
Spookie - feeling any better this morning? Fall has arrived - 49 degrees this am. I have on shorts/T shirt but cold. Thinking of making hot tea.
Anyone tried to read about Social Security? I'm going to have to start some heavy duty reading. DH thinking he may retire end of 2015 so I would prob. file early. Hah did read my life expectancy is 86.3 years. DM/DF only lived into very early 70s though mom's sis is still alive early 80s and GM lived to 92 (dementia last 2-3 years). Dilemmas galore.

Chevy,
usually I have to take the dog outside to do his business. During the week, I have the duty because hubby's getting ready to go to work. Weekends are his time to take this over, but I have been doing this all week lately. Was stunned by his telling me to stay inside.
0 -
Mags, neither one of us will pay a cable bill, so he has an old fashion antenna on his TV. I don't have a TV in the house. He has a man cave.
CHEVY, yes, I think it was a GI bug yucky stuff.
Today is GS#2 bday. He is 7. Mom and dad took him to LEGGOland. He was soooo excited I thought he would explode.
0 -
LilGoats.... You made me do mine! It SAYS I will live to over 96 years old!... That can't be real.... If I AM expected to live that long, I hope my DH is right with me on that one.
Don't know what I would ever do..... alone! And yes! That video reminded me of that 3/D movie.... A Trip over the Grand Canyon, with an Ultra-lite plane.... or however you spell that..... I'll ask Cammi..... SHE will know....
Glad you feel better Spookie... We pay a cable bill, but we both enjoy TV.... Together at night.... sitting on the couch... I remember when the girls were little, and we were all piled up on this huge sofa we had.... even our dog Chery.... I just closed my eyes, and wished we could stay in that moment forever...... !
DH has his man cave in the garage.... It is sooooooo funny! My car is in there too, so he only has a little bit of room to stand, but he has his old TV, cabinets plastered with all the play-boy girls inside the doors.... then pictures of cars glued to the walls, a heater, fan, and all of his tools!
When the Grand-sons would come over they LOVE to go in there, and have him tell them where he got THIS, or THAT, and "what is THIS for!" He has it "decorated" with all kinds of stuff.... it's fun just to go in there when he is not home, and see the things that make him happy!
Okay MoMom.... now you have to fix him something special tonight... and put on those high heels, and slink in front of him.... See if he notices.... Ha!
Mags.... just do your own thing.... we can't change them, and don't even THINK of trying to get him to do what is good for him..... ain't gonna happen. Go watch TV in another room.... go for a short walk.... don't let it bother you....
I'm making a Pasta salad.... with red and yellow peppers, diced onions, hard boiled eggs, Tortellini, and chopped Italian Parsley and Mint and that Good Seasons mix I made with oil & vinegar. Then I sprinkled steak seasoning in it.... So far, so good...
