Morning kids! It feels like I am talking to all my "family" when I read you guys here!
Yes Peppermint... when DD comes over, she does this whole thing like picking up a sponge, and cleaner, and starts all that CLEANING my cupboards and stuff! Damn kid!
So ME, I have to get up and grab the mop and stuff, and just act like I care what that kitchen LOOKS like! She is such a little perfectionist! And I LOVE the help!
But it is so hard, trying to get the house ready for COMPANY! Actually that's when the house really gets spiffed up!
Company needs to come once in awhile, so's we can mop & clean and paint, and hide stuff.
Yes HiHo! We must lecture people on here... Ha! We need to straighten them out... to realize their limits... and not work so hard!
It's snowing here, and you know how excited I am about that... right?

Been snowing here for a bit. Princess got to see her first snowfall before she conked out for a nap, her reaction was so cute. She was trying to catch the snow through the window.

Just talked to SAS, the storms blew out her Internet, she'll be back when it's fixed.

Okay, now the sun is shining, and it has warmed up to 34 degrees! Perfect for utilizing my new referigerator... It is called the whole back patio, with a table on it! Got the Sweet Potatoes out there, ready to bake, the cooked celery & onions with butter, ready to mix with the cut up toasted bread for the dressing, and I have the chicken with turkey giblets cooking for the dressing!
Potatoes boiling to be mashed with butter and 1/2&1/2. I LOVE to do this stuff ahead of time... ! I just reminded myself, I have to cook the fresh cranberries, till popped, then add diced celery, a pack of sugar free some-kind-of-jello, fresh pineapple and chopped Walnuts.
So now I am slowly convincing DH that HE can actually go with me, instead of anyone else, because HE knows more about cars than anyone else! He has just lost "self-confidence" it seems... He doesn't need re-assurance... he just needs to believe in himself! I can help him do this, and not be in a hurry..... which whining for 9 months, probably broke a whine record.
Sorry about the weather out there Spookie! Storms are sometimes un-mercifull! How DARE it storm on our Florida!

well, if those stinking cold fronts would just stay up north where they belong, we wouldn't have these problems. But noooooo. You northerners want to be generous and share! So we get high winds, waaaaaay to much rain at once, and ice cubes for feet. Yuck
I may need to wear real shoes today!

ok, let's try this again. Lost my post and bco logged me out.
Good morning owletttes. Hope everyone is pacing themselves for tomorrow. I have the gang coming this year. Normally my youngest son has it but this year his hip is killing him and its a smaller crowd. He finds out on dec 4 what his doc is going to do. He has extra bone growing and apparently it may have torn the ligament around the hip ball. He doesn't have bone cancer. So he'll be laid up for 6-8 weeks.
So I'm cleaning house today. Woke up to a nice surprise, the GS and GF cleaned the kitchen up after they got done cooking last night. Even the kitchen table has been cleared. That doesn't happen often.
So my whine today is that my sister has a cold and will be dropping off the turkey today and be here tomorrow. So I have to plan that I'm having the surgery next Friday but if I catch someone cold, then it's cancelled. I so want this to be over with. I would very much like to go hide from everyone until dec 5! Oh well, I can't do much about it. Anyone got ideas how to avoid catching a cold?
Everyone be safe out there.

Got no tv right now, Satellite dish probably is covered in snow. Not going outside to clean it off and break my neck in the process. It'll wait until hubby gets home sometime this afternoon, supposed to be let go at 12:30 and fight the trafficall the way from his job in this storm which is going to get worse as the day goes on, which means it probably will be more like 3 p.m. when he walks in the door finally.

OK 4 pages behind from Sunday.
Sassy - yes your link for spooners. I looked there but didn't find mine. Rather tall for a spooner but DM knew her stuff. I questioned her if it could be a celery jar or something like that to do with celery. Highly insulted that I had questioned her knowledge. I bet Victorians were big on relishes. Best way of preserving - has vinegar base usually. That and it disguises shall we say less than tasteful food. Hmm pickle castors - might have thought for lump sugar? Tongs are tongs - you can prob. pick up a set somewhere. Many of those images don't look they match well anyway. Claret jug - wonder if they would do for sweet tea lol. Oh sorry your internet is down.
Momof2 - see Princess as your avatar. Managed to get full pic on here? Happy belated birthday. Read that some businesses already closing in CT. - well read that about an hour ago which would have been about 12:30 your time.
Oh so true Mema about medicine packages. My gripe is my glaucoma eyedrops. Made for old people right. Some bottles don't even have a tear strip. One kind they give me takes a jar gripper on the top and one on the bottom to twist open. Worst thing I've seen in pills is the dog's heartworm. They have nowhere to start to peel. Scissors only. Looks like cold medicine pic - they are bad too. I cut between two caps - waiting for the day I split one in half. At least they are inexpensive. Yes the curling irons I just don't understand unless it's theft prevention. Duracell batt. pretty easy to open at least the AA which we go thru regularly.
Chevy - most of the zipper bags I can hardly get open either. Cut them with scissors until I almost cut into the zipper. I gave up last week trying to get the plastic lid off a heat/drink cup of soup. About the car - learn from Sassy. Make sure it is easy to get in and out of. Friend of mine had a horribly broken ankle from motorcycle accident - not her fault, Suburban almost ran over her in smalltown courthouse square. She bought a bright yellow Hyundai Veloster because of it's brightness and because the door opened wide. My trouble now is I have trouble reaching the door when in the seat. I have to pull the door shut as I sit.
HoleinOne - love the car pics. You'd never lose that black/white one would you? Oh I think your turkey's done.
After shopping on Monday and Tuesday I am planted. Have cooking to do for trip to DB's house tomorrow. Picking DD up at 1030 in MidCities then headed to Allen.
Rose - I know how worried you get about kids at college. Hope she is doing better.
Patty - I agree with GolfGirl - pace yourself. I'm sure your house is presentable in it's normal state. Enjoy your company. Let them fuss over you.
Smaarty - don't breathe when around your sister. Well short of that - Don't touch your eyes or your nose without washing or sanitizing. Big squirt bottle of hand sanitizer. What's that old drinking song - 99 bottles of beer on the wall. 99 jugs of hand sanitizer, pass it around, 98 bottles of hand sanitzer. Does sister have turkey prepped? Maybe she needs to consider what our Asian friends do - wear a mask. If someone takes a deep breath around you, run fast 'cause they're gonna sneeze/cough. Maybe you need a mask?
Hope that everyone has a safe, pain free Thanksgiving. Have the Zantac handy along with the Pepto. Thankful for all the freedoms we have in this country and that at the moment all I have to worry about is whether DD will even be ready to go when we get there tomorrow.

Okay thanks LittleGoats.... Good thing to think about when trying to get a nice comfortable car... My car door does the same thing... Opens too wide, and then I broke my handle, because it was easier to reach then the door handle!
Also the leather/plastic seats.... Just hope I can find one with those... I've looked at all the lengths of the cars.... because it can't be much longer than the car I already her. DD said one of her friends bought a new car, and they got it home, and it would not fit in their garage! Wow! Also, I don't know if you can talk them "down" from the retail price? Does paying cash/check help at all? Do you tell them that right away?
You always hear about certain used car salesmen, but how do you know? Friends always suggest friends, then when I look up that dealer, the ratings aren't any better than anyone elses....
It was funny, because my DD's friend WAS going with us.... but this guy must weigh over 300 pounds... So I told DD "Well, he could go, but if the guy takes us around in a golf cart, wouldn't he tip it over backwards? And she laughed!
So I just want to convince my DH that he knows more than he thinks... that I trust him, and we can do it without anyone else....It just sounds so much simpler that way....

belated birthday wishes to mommy. Cute kitten. Thanks lmg but if I where a mask my moms going to want to know why. She knows it's coming but I haven't told her when yet. I'm hoping not until next Thursday if I go in early or better on Friday morning if I go in later. She'll lose sleep worrying about me. She's 88.
Chevy, if you know what you want look it up on kellyblue book, it will give you a good idea of price. Also, I see you have 2 carmax by you. Check them out online before you go.
Well, got to get back to finishing vacuuming. Then lunch. Is it a good idea to take benyrdral before I have any cold symptoms? Thought I'd get some pineapple juice too and drink it hot, that always helps if I have a cold. Figured it can't hurt

Smaarty - stock up on Mucinex if you are prone to congested coughs. Do you tolerate Benadryl well? Makes me crazy with wild dreams 1/2 awake 1/2 asleep. Don't think it will do much good until symptoms appear anyway. Vitamin C is always good. The thing about colds is they are most contagious b4 sx truly get going good so can be hard to tell who is really sick. Sister may be less contagious since she's had hers a bit. Wish I still had my mom to worry about me. (((HUGS)))

Chevy---OHHH my Grandmother used to make that whole berry cranberry sauce with pineapple and walnuts and was that yummy! Forgot about it until I read your post.. yum. Flash back. :-) My kids won't eat it... dang kids.
Be well! Have fun and enjoy tomorrow. Off to round up kids all over the adjoining counties... over the river and through the rain... la la la...

lmg, when I had my gallbladder out I had a head cold for about a week. They gave me Benadryl just before sx. I could feel it, made me a little light headed. I'm sure what they gave me was probably stronger than over the counter stuff. The cold came roaring back the next day.
Have you gotten any rain yet? We have had some and expect some more this weekend

Hubby made it home okay. He got out a the time that they said that everyone could go and had no problem with traffic being really light. He got right to work and got the snow off the satellite dish which is what I suspected was going on. So far it looks like we have 2-3 inches on the ground with more coming.

Smaarty, Take Vit C. I thought benadryl was for allergies. Puts a lot of people to sleep, but it wires me.

Smaarty:
Anyone got ideas how to avoid catching a cold?
Uh, yeah. We pretty much live like Howard Hughes because DH is so immune-compromised. Here are just a few of the things we do:
Avoid crowds like crazy. Have someone else shop for you.
Wear a surgical mask at all times around others. We buy ours by the case, and if anyone dares to cough or sniffle or sneeze around us, they get a mask, too. Remember, coughs and sneezes can shoot across the room 8 - 10 feet at about 40 mph. Close your eyes if that happens.
Keep a can of Lysol spray at the door, and anyone who comes in has to spray the soles of their shoes before walking on the carpet.
I also spray my purse and tote bag with Lysol after I've been to Kaiser.
Norovirus (that bad stomach bug) can stay on surfaces for TWELVE DAYS. Just FYI.
Keep a carton of Clorox wipes in every room. Wipe down EVERY surface that anyone touches..... counters, microwave controls, sink handles, drawer handles, etc. Keep wiping them down even if you're not sure anyone has touched them.
Using hand sanitizer is great until the sick person wipes his or her nose or mouth and then touches something.
Shower and wash your hair after being around a sick person.
Use a sinus rinse during the day and before bedtime.
Dish up your food (we use a paper towel to cover each handle we touch at a buffet) but wash your hands with soap and water before you begin to eat.
Drink plenty of fluids and stay hydrated.
We take lots of Vitamin D. DH takes C, I can't because it's one of the anti-oxidants the MO has said no to. Only from fresh foods.
I've tried that fizzy tablet, Airborne, and it's not too bad.
Mostly, let people know that if they are sick they need to stay home. You are facing surgery, and it will be cancelled if you have a cold or other illness. Your health comes first. Sick people are not allowed in our house. If DH were to come down with something, it could kill him. That trumps being polite any day.
Also, I had my BMX cancelled because of some snot-nosed kid in the Apple store who kept coughing and sniffling and sneezing on me when I was buying my iPad. Sure enough, I got it, was sick as a dog, and had my surgery cancelled for more than a month. NOT WORTH IT!!!
People who know us respect our needs.
Family members are another story. They are notorious for being huge germ factories, gasping and wheezing and puking and hacking and insisting they are not contagious.
We are contagious at least 3 days before showing symptoms, and often still contagious 7 days after symptoms have disappeared, depending on the virus.
I know, we're high maintenance.
Hope you can dodge the germ bullet! If it were me, I'd offer to make her a plate and have someone drop it off at her house for her.
