30 minutes of swimming again. Claire, I'm jealous of your wine-y run. I've nearly cut booze out completely as my clinical trial drug is hard on the liver. I miss wine.

Today I did a 5K called 'Run for a Claus' where you got a Santa hat and beard to wear and where your entry fee was divided between four very deserving charities and it was so much fun, it was on the campus of University of California Irvine and it was an absolutely beautiful day, of course I walked it as I'm not a runner but I was with a group of great friends and we walked and talked but oh boy my foot never stopped throbbing, I do have a referral to the foot doctor so I guess it's time for cortisone

Thanks for sending my puppy picture over, Cheryl! Great picture of you and the other Santas as we We will be walking again today. If you need a way to force yourself into mandatory exercise, get a big dog! Tonight we are going to a play. Happy Sunday!

completed 150 minutes of exercise this week on the elliptical training as well as about 10 minutes of weight work 3x this week-- just trying to be consistent.

Sitting on couch I've logged in. The EFX was taken yesterday so ran my miles without stopping on the treadmill. Today I can hardly move - that flat unforgiving surface has caused me pain. I want to blow off exercising but reading your posts I know I need to get up and get it done. Probably need to anyways to ensure I don't get stiffer.
Ruth I love the doggie!
If anyone drinks organic Suja drinks they are on sale at Sprouts from $9 to $6 a bottle. I'm drinking Green Supreme now.

Hey IBD I feel your pain, after that walk yesterday my neuroma is throbbing like a &^#* I did go to the gym this morning for Body Step but said on the way in 'don't be offended if I leave as my foot was so bad' I did take an Aleve before I left home and about half way through it kicked in, but oh boy I could really feel how tight my hips were so I must haven been over compensating I did manage to stay the hour but low impact on the floor with no ste

The Jingle All the Way 5k was great! 5,000 runners, most in some kind of holiday outfit. There were Santas, reindeer, pink bunnies like in A Christmas Story, dreidles, candy canes, Christmas trees, stars, snowflakes, etc. My favorite this year was a good looking young guy dressed up like a present. There was a huge to/from tag on the gift that said: "TO: Women FROM: God". He was running with a group of young people and I got the impression that a couple of his female running buddies made it for him.

It's a beautiful race to run- we start out running straight down Pennsylvania Ave towards the Capitol, then we run through the Mall with the Capitol on one side and the Washington Monument on the far end of the Mall, then we wind along side some of the Smithsonianmuseums. I had great memories of the DC sculpted sisterscrew as I passed Air & Space!
Did another PR (Personal Record) 11:29 minute per mile pace. That's about a minute faster than I averaged before I took the running clinic. Astonishing - I never thought I'd ever get below 12. That clinic was worth every grueling minute.
Still decluttering the house. Took a huge carload of stuff to the transfer station yesterday, and today took another carload of good stuff to a local thrift shop to donate.
It's been fun going through old boxes. I found a box of some of my childhood stuff - turns out that I was an official member of The Man From U.N.C.L.E fan club. I even have a card certifying that I've qualified for service with U.N.C.L.E, have passed all tests for hazardous duty, and may be called to duty on 12 hours notice. Who knew I was such a talented kid???

Mary and Cheryl, what fun the christmas themed runs seem to be!
Beautiful husky. I love those dogs. I had a Keeshond which is also in the arctic dog family. She was so beautiful and good in the northern winter. Ruth you should take that dog home with you!
Welcome back, Dolce. Way to go Momand2. I try to get in my 150 every week as a minimum. Its a good milestone to meet.
I have been so busy with errands and Christmas related stuff in my free time that mostly I've been walking the stores. I was at the mall 4 hours yesterday. Normally I don't particularly like mall shopping and do a lot online, but I'm killing two birds with one stone and using it as my exercise. Hope that counts! Plus, after my all day Black Friday outing, I lost 3 pounds that next week. So maybe the long slow exercise is better for me to lose a few more pounds. Bonus!

Hats off to those of you who can walk outside in the cold. My face, eyes, lips, chin, etc. just hurts too much when I try and forget if I'm walking into the wind.

Lilac - Good for you for persevering with the broken AC!
As for yin, I love my yin yoga classes. The poses are mostly centered on opening the joints of the lower body, and are very relaxed. Even though some of the poses are the same as other yogas, the form and emphasis is quite different. For instance, in regular yoga if you do a seated wide legged forward fold, you know how there's an emphasis on keeping the back and neck straight as you hinge from the hips, and on keeping the legs straight with the feet held flat with the toes pointing straight up? That's not in the case in yin - in a yin wide legged forward fold, you deliberately relax the back and neck, and actually curve over the legs. You also relax the toes and legs, letting the feet flop naturally, and you just sink into the stretch. I take my yin class with a friend who is also a certified yoga instructor, and after the first few classes I told her that I felt "sloppy" because I rounding my back and neck, letting my feet flop, etc. while doing the poses. She said that's exactly how I should feel, and attempting to do yin with regular yoga form can actually be bad for you.
I haven't gotten a chance to go to yin for some weeks now, and I really miss it. The instructor moved to a different studio that's much further from my home and it's hard to get there on time after work. I think I'm going to have to invest in a yin DVD.

12/8- early morning personal training with some resistance and core with the kettle bell. The kettle bell is my new best friend! Got some knee stuff going on so I may not do any more today and will ice it.
Nats and Lilac- I did some Yin yoga this past weekend at the yoga workshop I attended. It was very good. I love a practice where you can hold a pose longer. I did some very deep releasing as a result.

I did 4 miles on the treadmill in one hour. I do half of that time and distance on a 6% incline. I change it up every four minutes. It kicks my butt but I feel great after I get er done!

Reporting in: 7 miles
TwoHobbies: I read that you can burn more fat during medium impact or moderate exercise than high impact which often burns muscle. I bet also with all the weekend walking which you lost 3 pounds might be from less eating. I find when Im on the go I mostly drink unsweet tea or water and dont stop for food until the end of the afternoon or evening.
Hi to everybody! I also think its awesome those of you who can do this outside despite the cold temps. That is some will and determination right there!

Hi I'm only two weeks post op so a little early to be here, but VERY interested in the yin yoga... I always felt that the regular yoga I do (I have a DVD) doesn't hold the poses long enough for real release... I'm def going to look into it. Thanks for the heads up

30 mins treadmill.

An hour on treadmill 3.5 miles. My legs and feet are sore today.

A long, long walk in the woods, then spent the rest of the day eating. Sadness, I will be really scared to step on the scale when I get home. Tomorrow is travel day, so it will be walking, or running, through airports... depending on how on time the planes are!

Inspired and TwoHobbies- about burning fat, I have been working with a personal trainer for a few months and she gave me this very advice after discussing why I was not loosing weight or very fast either. She has me doing like 40-45 min on the recumbant bike at the gym at a moderate level (3-4) for my cardio, and it is working. I am loosing fat this way and the scales are going down now. Like with everything, it is always about finding that balance with how often, how much and at what intensity to get rid of the fat weight. Good luck ladies.
I told her this morning I was thrilled to see myself loosing weight during the holidays instead of the usual gain, although after giving up sugar, I did not gain anything last year.

Mary we had a 'parcel' guy in our 5K as well but the one who won the dress up contest was a guy who dressed up as Santa Claus and he had his two kids on hot wheels and he pulled them the whole race and they were dressed as reindeers.
Did Sh'bam this morning and Body Pump tonight.

congrats, Mary, on your personal best.
Last week was super busy with work and then prepping for our church fair till midnight each day. No real exercise beyond my 10,000 steps.
Today, I joined a gym. It is just too dark and cold out before and after work to be able to run. Did 40 minutes on the treadmill, a combo of walking and jogging, and it felt so great to be back at it. I have never run on a treadmill before so it was a bit different.

Lilac, we only go for 3 minutes. I can barely do that, so 5 minutes would be out of the question for me. The teacher says it's not about getting the maximum stretch but about being comfortable. I was sold on the idea after that.
Body Jam last night and some weights after. Zumba this morning, freezing my buns on my bike getting there and back. Maybe tango tonight.

45 minutes treadmill at the gym early this morning plus my standard lower back & abs stuff then a good stretch. Still not back to my regular early morning schedule but I'm getting it in more often than not these days so that's a big YAY!
