While I was in England, I did some shopping at CathKiddston. Al little too much. But, I found this perfect little handkerchief, and then when I got home, found this perfect little hand carved pin. I'd been trying to find just the right things to remind me of Kristine, and finally did.

Jwoo - what a beautiful scarf and pin! Perfect memento from your trip. I can't believe that post - you must have written things down. I also loved the shared photos.

Chevy - your photo reminds me of my Mom - same hair style. Quite the couple too. Love it that you have the old photos.

Mags/Sass spookie- wouldn't trading in for a new body be grand!

We went and saw Into The Woods, the new Disney film. I guess I spaced on it being a musical. It does not work for Deaf kids even with a cochlear implant. Both my deaf girls said they liked it and my hearing daughter said it was too long! The scenery was great and nice little twist on the stories. I did think it could have been shorter more action. Some of the scenes were definitely not for kids - what's with the wolf (pedophile - creepy!), killing the elderly giant Grandmother and the Prince cheating??? Just a bit dark.

  • Jwoo, you are amazing to include comments to everyone! And how thoughtful you are to remember FBB with those beautiful items. Hoping you find time to rest with your busy work schedule.

Chevy, what a cute couple you and DH are!

Enerva, thanks for the photos. Too bad you couldn't meet up with Chevy.

Mags, hoping your shoulder is feeling better soon.

    Blondie, sending you hugs

Tang, good you got your supplies.

    Sassy, thinking of you.

Rose, glad you got out with the kiddos.

    Blessings, how are you doing?

Badger, congrats on the 5 years!

    Spookie, how are you doing?

Sorry for all the other names I may have missed. Hope you're enjoying your weekend

JWoo...my gosh what an amazing post!! Thank you for addressing my question. It's really shocking how many of us didn't get offered mental health care. That's interesting that a nurse called from your medical insurance co. asking if you wanted them to navigate your care. We've all had different experiences it seems. Different resources offered to us. I'm still getting over this flu/cold and still have a housefull of people here. They leave NewYears Day. After all 7 of them shower in the morning, it's almost lunch. I find it amazing that they ever make it out the door each day. Found out today I have a water leak in the main pipe to my house. My front lawn is squishy from all the water leaking out. I'll get it fixed next Friday after everyone leaves. They need to turn the water off to my house while they work on it? Can't do that with 7 people each taking showers!! I hope everyone had a nice holiday. I need to catch up. Hugs to all....(cute pics Chevy)
  • oh no. Paws, a water leak is not so good! Hope you feel better soon, sending you healing hugs!

Thanks 2nd. Not looking forward to seeing that water bill :(
  • Just peaking in from my couch...I used to watch Burn Notice, ages ago, but can't get into it tonight so decided to check ya'll out. Bobbie pins & clippies...I still have some from my mom..we used them as little kids & can't part w/them! As for curlers...I was always lucky (or cursed) w/curly hair :-)

Pawprint...7 extra people...you're a saint! We had a Thanksgiving like that once and ended up blowing fuses thanks to 2 families' 36 ft motorhomes & 7 teenagers playing video games in all 3 places. I think you need a collection plate for your water bill...I'd be a little freaked out :)

Right now I'm a little bummed that I left a huge Costco tin of Belgian chocolate cookies at our DD's house. Guess it's a good thing :).

Hi gals! Morning Ronnie Kay! See, I'm going to go right on talking to you, like I remember you posted or something...Winking Looks like you have a little kiddle in that picture? And sounds like you had BC in 2009 and then again in 2012? WTH???? I'm just sorry.... Are you okay now?

Yes Paws.... All I can say is OMD!!!!!!!! In the same HOUSE? ALL at ONCE? I'd get them a room somewhere.....or several..... Ha! And you have 5 days to go yet.... with a water LEAK? I would call in the National Guard. You need help here. Do you know these people pretty well? Man, that is tough... Make them limit their showers to every other day. They don't need to be THAT clean... They probably caused that damn leak! All that water being used.... Call the Police!

We could get Phyllidink to summon the authorities... she always had them at her house...

We might get out doors today..... We'll see how cold it is out. I have those little masks I can wear.... Seems like COLD weather is not good for older women with Asthma......I'll just wear them out to the garage, and hold my hand over my face when we go into the store.... I mean Walmart!

See, I had to post that, so I could go back to see you other gals.... I should have just started a "write-mail" then I could flip back and forth...

(that's pole talk) and then copy and paste... But oh well!

So you thought my fingers were broke Spookers? Nope... just frozen! But it's 12 degrees out right now.... Almost up to freezing!

Enerva! You look good! You look so very young! And you have been through a lot, it looks like!

And that one picture... Were you at Caesar's Palace, at the Forum? Oh wait, it says Grand Canal Shoppes... Maybe at the Venetion? We need more pictures. ANYthing that reminds me of warmth and fun and stuff!

Spookie...Your friends dog has heart issues too? I can't imagine what a dog heart doctor would cost.... but we would do anything.... right?

I told my DD about my friends problems (which is her X mother-in-law).... with her Son's (which was Janie's X)...Pacemaker with de-fib, and her Husband not being able to walk, and then the older dog with heart problems....

SHE said "She should put them ALL down!" Now I'm sorry, but I just laughed out loud. Then we agreed, ....well maybe not the dog....

Sass.... I feel that way about shopping at Ross or Burlington... If it is pretty, and I don't have one, and if it is on sale, BUY it.

Mags, how much snow did you get? Glad the cold weather didn't hang around.

You need ALL those things replaced? WTH? Are you falling apart? Can you do just one thing at a time? I don't know about that replacement stuff. MAN, just one broken hip and rod/screws nearly did ME in.... I can't imaging going through that with all those joints of yours! I'm sorry....

Sass, that article you posted about Chinese hairpins was GREAT! I had never heard that before!

Enerva.... sorry about your Sister.... You just need to sleep awhile...

Morning Tang... Glad you are getting used to your forms.... And your cute DD said that! That is sweet!

Rosie... I had that tiny picture in a little glass holder, along with the going-steady ring he gave me, and a little pin... with some little ear-rings he gave me... I scanned it, and it came out big enough to see... Ha!

Your Daughter's doing okay! I can't imagine not hearing, even with aids...

I had mine adjusted, and now I have to take them out sometimes, because things are so LOUD! I have heard of the cochlear implants... do they work alright though? For them?

Okay, and the Wolf stuff? Sometimes I think that stuff is added just for the adults... cause it ain't for the kids.... that's for sure. Maybe the kids know it's just make-believe.... and don't pay any attention to it all?

2222222222! You doing okay? You sound tired... or exhausted.... or both! How's the family?

    Okay... I think I got everybody... don't tell me if I didn't.....

  • good morning ladies. Looks like we all survived another busy Christmas. Yes ! Feeling stronger everyday but back pain has returned every since hosputsl visit. Back on pain meds. Yuck. Smarrty and Blondie send me your State, county and zip by PM.  Smarrty while I'm looking for  your SIL I'm going to also look for Blondies resources.

If you could also send specific goal/need for funds

Do you want me to post back to you by PM or here on the board

I'm going to start listing Foundations with my comment about them:

    http://www.healthwellfoundation.org/

Healthwell F. initially helped with certain meds. They have expanded their mission. Their charity navigator rating is 3:4 very good. Their web site isn't easy to navigate. Use tool bar at top and at bottom. In Novemeber this year 2014, they launched a new program that expanded what they would fund. It's under Emergency Relief Fund. That particular page is difficult to find where to go to next. Best to locate directions from tool bar of main Healthwell's  page. I think the simplist  thing to do is call them after looking at the site if your confused with what they offer

    The HealthWell FoundationP.O. Box 4133
    Gaithersburg, MD 20885-4133
    grants@healthwellfoundation.org

    ---------------------------------------------------------

Smarrty this is going to give you a route to research, but again it will take patience.  At Northwestern University is a clinic dedicated to fertility of cancer patients. It's called  "The Oncofertility Consortium ,represents a nationwide, interdisciplinary, and interprofessional network of medical specialists, scientists, and scholars who are exploring the relationships between health, disease, survivorship and fertility preservation in young cancer patients.".(statement from the about us page)

I want you to study the flow chart about what OC does on the 'about us' page (first link below)..  When you study the chart, you will see that  the intervention of helping with fertility stops at preservation. It alludes to the family. What it doesn't say is that it helps with IN Vitro. Study the site enough that you have a sense of what they do. Then contact Kristen Smith, she is the main coordinator. Her number is Fertline --18667083378. Then after picking her brain call the men's line for Dr Brannigan 13126958146.

    questions:

1.Do you offer  IN Vitro fertilization to the CA survivors that you have stored patients eggs/sperm ?

If answer is yes--Yay           If answer is no

    2. Is anyone in the nationwide Consortium providing the service?

    3. Is anyone in the Consortium doing and longitudinal studies on the outcomes of fertility through to childbirth and evaluation of long term morbidity ( disease/illness) and mortality (death) of the children?

Hope I can make this clear. It's very nice that they offer a means of saving the eggs and sperm. But if the next step of bringing a child to fruition isn't taken, then what's the point of what they are doing?  Northwestern is involved b/c it is a multidiscipline scientific university. The flipside of the altruistic provision of  the retrieval &  storage service is their undergrads and grad students in medicine, bioengineering, lab, Medical Residents, and Fellows in all the related disciplines of the retrieval & storage process are learning how to do the procedures as part of their training. What's missing is what I wrote in question 3.

Now the question sounds awful, but it is research that SHOULD be done. If they aren't doing it, then keep talking about the scientific benefit. (see below about starting near home)  You can start by calling Kristin Smith and asking for the names of involved universities near your SIL &DD. You can address the questions with  Kristen and Brannigan, but if you loose the ear of Kristen and Brannigan. Keep calling other members in the consortium and ask the same questions. Your goal is to get someone to 'see' the necessity of this part of the CA puzzle.

If someone sees it as advantageous, I could see them establishing a study that would included patients like your SIL and DD. If this is done then the cost of the In Vitro, implantation sx, all follow up care during the course of the study would likely be free.

Now if this is clear, see who is in the Consortium that's closest to SIL &DD home b/c travel would be an issue, and start trying to convince them of the value of the study----------clear?????

Smarrty, just when you think something doesn't exist here it is. I changed the keywords to "cash grants for In Vitro Fertilization"'. There's a slew. The keyword that brought them up was 'cash'. Gotta love the internet

thanks sass, I'll pass info to the kids.

I'm in the process of trying to catch my cat to take him to the vet. He came up on the bed this morning and peed! Also did that last night in my lap. So he's got blood in his urine and he won't let me catch him and put in the crate. Grrrr! I ended up tripping this morning trying to catch him and landed on my hands and knees. Not to far to fall but caught myself on my hands. Nothing seems to have torn but a little achy. If this cat has cost me my boobs, he's toast.

He's got an 8:30 pm appt. so have all day to get him into the crate.

Hope everyone has a better start to their day than I have so far.

Hey Mags, nice pics? Is that you in the red swimsuit? Chevy...you are right, seals are dog mermaids, they even bark. PP, back pain is the worse, there just seems like no matter how you sit, stand, or lay down the pain is always there. I wish the doc could give you something that would help. Ronnie, thanks for the collection plate idea, I'll just have them leave credit cards ;)
Hugs to all, have a nice pain free day.

I'm often asked why do I keep searching stuff. Well, the biggest reason is I keep learning stuff. Always have been a learning sponge. But this one's been extra special. Because of doing the search for Smarrty's SIL, I learned more than just the IVF stuff. I put keywords 'cash grants for personal needs for cancer patients'. Oodles of sites came up.

Some cautionaries---if someone asks for money, in order to receive money -- it's a scam.

Attempt verification through Charity Navigator(CN), but this isn't an absolute thing b/c a charity has to be in business for 5 years before they can be listed on CN.

    Look for 501c3 designation.

    Check out with BBB

Ask for address if it's a PO box, if they won't give it --it's a scam.  Same with phone.

    Don't sign a contract --it's a scam

Don't give any personal data until absolutely identified as a legit organization.

I'm sure others will pop in with other cautionaries.

I just found one that would have helped with my brain tumor.

Smarty! I'm sorry.... Have the vet check for Addison's disease.... That's what Lacee had.... Yes, she would pee while laying down, like she didn't even know.... We tried so hard to help her... To fix her.... But after a week of IV fluids, antibiotics, she couldn't even walk.....

This had gone on for about 2-3 months.... weight loss, not wanting to walk as far as we used to, and I would carry her the rest of the way home.... I just wanted to hang onto her forever.... and I knew that someday I couldn't...... It is just so hard to say good-by.....

I hope your cat is alright! xoxoxox

I don't know much about cats, but males are prone to bladder stones. Especially if they eat dry food, cats don't drink much anyway, unlike slobbery dogs

Smarty- good luck with catching the cat! It's probably a stone or crystals. Poor thing, he peed to tell you something was wrong. I hope he ends up ok! My vet says she gives one meal of wet food to up the water intake of her cat. Cats being desert animals don't consume enough she said.

Patty- glad you survived and sorry about the pain. I hope you get your strength back soon. We have had company and been on the move driving and walking and my hips are killing me and my feet and ankles swollen. Been fun though. Nice to have all my kids together for xmas, Wow so many dishes.. cleaning... yikes. tired!!!! Can't imagine having 7 extra or a bunch of teens and maxing out the electric and water! I am sick of eating big meals - how about a yogurt. simple.

Mags- loved the photos. Chevy you too.

Sass you missed your calling to be a teacher! Well you are kind of here, so you missed nothing! Never mind.

To all -have a happy pain free week.

spookie, your right. He has two large stones in his bladder. So sx tonight if there's nothing else wrong with him. Finally caught him about 12, and they had an opening at 2:30. They were able to get an ultrasound so could see the stones. He had to be put out for the X-ray and other stuff. Hes a very high strung cat around others. So I should hear more from the vet soon. If there's other things wrong, then he'll be put to sleep.

Sass, thanks for all the info. I'llkeep passing it on to the granddaughter.

Hello all, it's been busy here, and I just tried to reread the last few pages....

Smaarty, --what a tough day you have had.....hope it gets better. Do cats pass kidney stones on there own? That & shingles scare me.

Mags,- I had a MRI done on my left shoulder on Friday. Surgeon suspects torn rotator cuff or labrum tear? I had my right one repaired about 10 years ago. Yikes. Shoulders are painful. It is feeling better, cause I have not been to PT in a week or played tennis in 3 weeks. I will see The surgeon again next week to get the bottom line.

Welcome to Ronnie, Shelly & Sailing.....

BBL need to get something done.....

Oh Smarrty, a furbaby problem, as bad as a human problem. We care so much for them. Non-pet owners never understand. Or non caring pet owners understand. Good luck, it's not anywhere close to easy with cats. Dear Sister had three---the trials and tribulations.

Rose, I was always a teacher from childhood. Parents bred Collies. Thinking as I write 'Who taught Who'. When training pups you have to be well controlled and precise.  Parents raised essentially four teachers. A teacher, a nurse, a cop, a priest. The collies were much a part of our learning.  I taught from the first day of nursing in 1969 till..............But what was exciting about my parents was they encouraged us to identify the difference between what was, and think about how things could be different. Sweet.

I hope they don't need to put the cat down. sigh... thank goodness for plastic. It has saved 2 of our animals.
