So...whats for dinner?

The Hobart my mom had.... had a "power take off" (yes, the tractor reference was used on purpose:-) for attachments...and there must have been some sort of standard, as she used attachments from a lot of companies.
Maybe old attachments would still fit a new mixer???????

auntie - maybe finally turning the corner - less congestion, but starting to cough - not sure if this is progress?

Hopefully it is progress..and you're back to normal in time for Christmas II.

eric - yes, feeling human for Christmas: The Sequel, is the goal, lol! I am determined!

Special K----we are sisters of the Cold. I've been sniffling and blowing a week on Christmas Eve, finally caved this a.m. when the barking cough kept me up all night and went to "Prompt Care" and 2.5 hours later I saw a nice doctor who told me my ears were moderately full and my nose was WOW CONGESTED.... no crackle in my chest yet, so he gave me a Z-pak and steroid and told me to run a vaporizer at night and get to the doctor the first crackle I hear, but hopefully we would be proactive enough to coral it before that happens.... Eating leftover ham, Gypsy Cold Care Tea , and cup of soups.....0 -
Special and Red I am so glad you have turned the corner, or are going to soon.
I Finally made something worthy of this discussion
Eggplant Parmesan. My brother ate 1/2 of a 9x12 pan upon his arrival! He's 6'1" and was hungry
Then I took one small red onion, tossed it with 1 tbs olive oil and salt and pepper and roasted it for 15 minutes on 425 in a single layer, then I added 4 cups halved Brussels sprouts, similarly treated and added them to the pan for 25 minutes. Yum!
Went horseback riding today with a horse named Blue. He was a sweety and put up with me. I loved his velvet nostrils, his hay-horse smell and his blowing/snorting air out through his nose. He made fog because it was cold. He loved me scratching behind his ears I think we are in love. lol
Love to all

One half of a 9X12 pan of Eggplant Parmesan??? That sounds like DD. :-)

Bedo - if I remember, you're vegetarian, right? I ran across a few easy recipes lately that I sent my DIL & I can dig them out for you if you want. So glad to see you back.
In the meantime, I plan to roast an onion & some fingerling potatoes since I have no Brussels sprouts. I'm also planning on making Laurie's salsa chicken for New Years. I know I'm in the South & I'm cheating with the black beans instead of black eyed peas, but I think my luck will hold.
Made hot gingerbread today for my domino friends. We put lots of whipped cream on the top. Someone else brought a fruit tray & mixed berry spreadable cream cheese (strawberry, raspberry & boysenberry) in addition to the sesame dip. Another lady baked crackers that had been tossed w/oil & sprinkled w/dry Hidden Valley ranch dressing - only she also added some really hot spices. Someone brought shrimp dip. And there was half a chocolate cake. These are neighbors we know really well so we're all likely to bring whatever we have in our kitchens that no one else is eating if we don't feel like cooking. The lady didn't come who often brings crisp apple slices and caramel sauce dip but we had enough sweets anyway.

redhead - I feel your pain - good for you that you went to the urgent care when you did! Hoping you are on the mend - this is pretty miserable.
bedo - loved your brussel sprout story and your horse story, those horses are easy to fall in love with - DD leased a horse when she was in high school, taught it to bow down and put its forehead on the ground. This was a giant horse, very smart and gentle, but she trained it to do this by crawling underneath it with carrots - the stuff of maternal nightmares! She has always been an animal trainer I guess - started by training her guinea pigs to jump over stacks of books.

Christmas Day at my niece's involved 3 horses and 6 dogs - mostly Great Dane size. She eventually wants to run a rescue farm for horses destined for the boneyard.

minus - sounds like a fun day - and what a generous aspiration for your niece - I hope she can do it!

Me too Special but she's definitely always been a girl w/a plan. She and her DH are both cops and she's 8.5 months pregnant w/the first child!!! But the baby "won't change their lifestyle or plans at all" (ha ha)

I'm joining the miserable cold versus milder flu with Redhead and Special. I started feeling puny Friday afternoon but have had a dizzy head most of the week. No fever but certainly plenty of chest/nasal congestion and zero appetite for most stuff. I never realized how many cooking shows and food commercials are on. But I did watch the Great British Baking Show on PBS tonight. Taking 1/2 of a DayQuil liquid dose during the day and 1/2 of the night time dose at night. My stomach just cannot handle 2 caps.
The enchiladas were OK but mushy tortillas. I just cannot seem to get over that problem. Pace made an enchilada sauce for a while. I have their recipe somewhere, should be OK with different sauce. The homemade sauce was OK, DH thought not spicy enough. The overnight croissant French toast was great. Soaked up the 8 eggs mix and baked wonderfully well.
So needless to say we've been existing on soup and oddly enough baked potatoes. I cannot smell anything. Made some double bergamot Earl Grey tea tonight and could not smell a bit of it. Found 2 indiv. cups of applesauce and ate those. Just odd stuff. DH seems to have a bit of allergy only. For that I am very grateful.

luv - sorry you are joining the club of sickies, hope you feel better soon! I can't smell or taste anything either, although I keep tasting things to see if that is still the case, lol! I have tinnitus leftover from chemo, but man are my ears hissing and ringing with this congestion! Tea sounds good - I may go make some right now. I will report later on if I could taste or smell it.
minus - the "won't change plans/lifestyle" line makes me laugh too!

If I recall correctly.... and I think I might... HAPPY BIRTHDAY BEDO!
All prepped for my PET scan. And now I just wait until it is time to leave. I don't wake at 4am regularly. The cats are not thrilled that I am meandering about during their playtime. It is very dark and cold at this time of the morning. Heat doesn't come on for several more hours after all.
We managed to eat all the Christmas leftovers. Delicious to be sure, but a lot of the same thing night after night.

Best of luck with your scan Susan!

Ditto on the good luck with the scan, Susan.
And healing wishes for all carrying those viruses around.
DH seems to be starting with a similar cold. When we woke up he was coughing up a storm.....I think some spicy kale soup might loosen things up for him.
Love your horse affair Bedo!

Susan, hoping for good scans too.
Our cat loves it when we get up early. He meows to remind us of our obligation, runs for the kitchen and waits impatiently for food.

susan - sending good scan karma
We have the world's laziest dog - if we get up early he looks peeved and goes back to sleep.

Susan - hoping for only the best of outcomes on your scan.
I think there is a bit of leftover meatloaf in freezer. Might thaw that out later. If I can find the energy which will only be to wash/slice potatoes, want to make those Greek lemon potatoes again.

Susan, Thank you! It is my birthday and I have three dinners lined up for today tomorrow and the next day. I am so popular-not I am wishing you the best for your scan. I can't believe you remembered! I am not worthy..I have a mind like a rusty trap.
I'm cashing in on the freebies. Everyone check the web for birthday freebies.
Minus, thanks, I would love the recipes and your daughter is very generous. We have a horse rescue in our state that has a descendant of Man o War that was on the block for- well.... the unmentionable. Best of luck to her.
Special, loved your story about the big horse bowing. My cats don't even raise their heads if it's cold... they are psychic They're probably thinking " I hope that woman leaves us some food on the way out"
Goat and all you sick sisters, I hope you feel better soon. Drink lots or warm fluids and stay under the covers.

I managed to take a stroll out thru the goatyard and let them out to eat a bit of greenery in a place they don't usually get to go. Pretty nice day today before the cold invades starting overnight. I think we've seen the last of the golden orb for the week. Dicey if we will get freezing rain Wed night/Thurs am. One prediction was for 1/4 inch but not a source I'm familiar with unsure of how much trust to give it. I do need DH to bring some cut wood up from the back. He's off tomorrow, day not too bad so that is doable. Getting him to drive me to grocery. I'll be doing good to find a few things there b4 the knees get weak. Have a darned pres. to pick up. Hate the refill hassle of weekly Fosamax. Sometimes it will not refill and clerk has to manually do it. I knew last Friday it would prob. not so didn't even bother to call it in.
Happy Birthday Bedo.

Happy Birthday Bedo-----
Luvmygoats---temps dropping here in IL too. Just came back from the store picking up staples for me and eggs for my next door neighbor with the flu. Think I made a smart decision to curl up on the couch tonight instead of bowling. cool mist humidifier seems to help both me (coughing) and the cat (sneezing) She got a shot of antibiotic today and I am swallowing mine..... which is exactly how I prefer things.....

Happy birthday, Bedo! You are very deserving of birthday wishes.
Hoping for good results on the scan, Susan.
Still waiting for a NOLA dinner report, Nance.
Eric, while shopping around online for pomegranate molasses, I happened upon a recipe for making it yourself. Pomegranate juice, lemon juice and sugar. Then read some responses to the recipe by people who had omitted the lemon juice and sugar and reduced the juice to a syrup. On Amazon the bottled product is pricey.
Spent at least 2 hrs. today getting new cell phones and switching service. I was about to pass out from hunger when we finally finished up. Fortunately there was a sandwich place nearby, Fire House. We had never eaten there. We had the brisket and cheddar sub on a delicious wheat hoagie bread, and the sandwich was very good.
Since we ate so late, 2 pm, we'll have a bowl of leftover red beans and rice for dinner and I'll cook tonight's planned dinner tomorrow night.
It is over two weeks since I became ill with this head cold/sinus congestion. The bad news is that I'm still not "well." I suspect that I had/have a milder version of SpecialK's flu. I say "milder" because I don't think I ever had fever. For the last week I've been using a Neti Pot to flush my sinuses. I must have the cleanest sinuses in the neighborhood! I felt good enough today to go to the gym. I'm up 5 to 6 lbs on the scales.

Carole, we've come home then gone again so I haven't been at my computer and may not be until Thursday. I promise I'll tell you all about it!
I'm hoping to find pomegranate molasses at global foods whenever I can get there again. I'm curious about the homemade stuff.

Assuming I can get motivated to pack, we are headed to the Cape for three days. Tonight L will be cooking something. Wednesday I have a rib eye roast that I will serve with roasted potatoes and a large salad. Thursday is the leg of lamb with sweet potato gratin and whatever vegetable L bought. I usually do more complicated meals down there, but this year, I am just too tired. Everyone has stated flatly: Simple Susan. I have promised myself only four hours of coding a day. And then fun. I really should be canceling this little vacation, but I really need this small break.
Back on Friday. Be well,
*susan*

susan - yes, you do need this break - have a great time!
