There is still a drive in movie in a small town near us. It still draws quite a crowd. Lots of fun and good memories at them!

mysunshine....We were in your area today. We went to the Naples/Fort Myers greyhound track and had a ball. Our time in your area is running out. We leave for Illinois on Tuesday but plan to get in another boat ride and a few rounds of golf before we leave. Then hopefullly we will be back next winter.

Di...I'm sending healing vibes your way! Hugs!

We still have a drive in movie here in our little town in Tennessee. G children love it. Will be thinking of you Di and Sandra. Turned cold for this weekend here so I am planning on a quite weekend. Working on lymphedema therapy pain and discomfort easing which is great. Looking forward to Easter with our entire family in Nashville. We usually have an adult hunt gets very competitive so I might be on the side this year just cheering these old farts along. To funny! DH (71) usually the worst of them all. Check on you all later. Shuf

An adult Easter egg hunt sounds like fun.  I would enjoy that.  For some reason, boiled eggs that have been dyed seem to taste better than plain boiled eggs.  My niece used to bring me some of the eggs she'd dyed with her kids.  This year we won't have any children around so no egg hunts out in the yard.  In latter years we used plastic eggs.

Today I have to make a dish to take to a barbecue this afternoon.  Last year I made cauliflower "potato" salad.  This year it will be cauliflower again but a marinated salad.  This is an annual event with dh's woodworkers' guild.  Looks like we will have a beautiful day.  The barbecue takes place at a member's camp on a little canal leading to a river.  Very pleasant location.  We all bring our own folding chairs.

I must have exercised my legs a lot at the gym yesterday morning.  Last night I had some muscle cramps.  Took a couple potassium pills and some yellow mustard.  We were told by dh's cousin who runs marathons that yellow mustard is good for cramps.  Something I never would have guessed.

I went to a drive-in movie a time or two years ago but much prefer an indoor movie theatre.  I don't go to many movies any more because it has gotten expensive, even for senior rate for matinees and the concessions are ridiculously expensive.  I don't see how families can afford to take their kids.

    Happy Saturday to everyone.

Carole, the other night I heard my Husband holler! I jumped out of bed, and ran in to his bed, and he was having the WORST cramp in his left leg... I stood there, massaging his cramp DOWN, rather hard, towards his ankle... It took a few minutes, but it eventually went away..

He used to get them when he worked, YEARS ago, working on those cement docks.... Passed out one morning, when it got so bad, and he flew out of bed to get rid of it! I was so scared.... He was left with a huge lump, and a bruise... Doc said he passed out from jumping out of bed so fast......

I had to do the same hard massage with my Mom one time, because she used to get them, and they are really painful!

I tried the bar of soap in-between the sheets, when I was taking Tamoxifen, but it didn't help.

Carole... I'm in the medical field and can't tell you how many times patients have reported success with soap. They place a bar under the sheets at the foot of the bed.

We had friends who worked for a movie theater. They said the ticket price was eaten up by film rental and their only profit was from the concessions. Made me feel a little better about the prices.

chevyboy, my DH has had the same thing and ended up on the floor very scary. We have heard drinking a little vinager helps but we had to put him on potassium pills daily. ( Resting today) You girls have a great day. Shuf

Yes! I heard, that putting a bar of soap in between the sheets by your feet would help you not get leg cramps.... So I tried it with TWO bars of soap.

Didn't help at all.... Also some supplement that began with an M....? What was it... ? I broke out in hives, WITH leg cramps....

I read it here on BC.org.... a few years ago.... but it didn't work for me.

It was Magnesium.... And yes.... "Badger" had commented on the bar of soap trick.... while taking Tamoxifen.... she thought it worked fine.... Maybe it was just me.... but I tried it for a week, in between the sheets.... at the foot of the bed....

You know.... just TRY it.... maybe it will fork for you!

The more authentic you become, the more genuine in your expression, particularly regarding personal experiences and even self-doubts, the more people can relate to your expression and the safer it makes them feel to express themselves.  That expression in turn feeds back on the other person's spirit, and genuine creative empathy takes place, producing new insights and learnings.  -Stephen Covey

Put your leg (or your husband's under as hot of water as you can stand in the bathtub or shower. It releaves the muscle cramp very quickly. I get them from time to time and this always works. I just jump in the tub and start the hot water.

So beautiful in south Texas now...the wildflowers have begun to show off, mainly bluebonnets and Indian paintbrush now but the others will be along shortly. We'll have flowers along roadsides for another two months as the different species rotate through their bloom cycle.

    image

We'll be on the road Thursday, headed for Tallahassee, Florida for my best friend's wedding on Saturday, then heading right back home so Mike can begin another round of chemo. We didn't think he would be able to go but he is doing so well we're going to give it a shot. My best friend is Tim. He is getting married for the first time at 67 and I get to give him away! He was a year ahead of me in high school and we sang in a trio (a la Peter, Paul & Mary.) I didn't know that I was his first love...he was just my friend. We've stayed close friends for 51 years now and he is the Godfather of all three of my children. He's a college professor. Although he's come close to getting married a few times over the years, he didn't find the right woman until a year ago. (He always teased that he was waiting for me to come to my senses and marry him so it's appropriate that I get to give him away.) Amanda has a 14 year old daughter and 11 year old son so Tim is getting a full dose of parenting. The wedding is Saturday morning, followed by a brunch reception. Then we all adjourn for a couple of hours and reconvene at 2 pm for the Florida State University circus performance. What fun!

Shuf, I have heard potassium helps prevent leg cramps too. Makes sense since athletes and people who exercise a lot eat a lot of bananas which have potassium.

Sandra - I'm so glad to hear that Mike is up to this trip. What a great story about your friend the groom. Have a good celebration.

Yes, I'm loving the bluebonnets by the side of many of our Houston roads. I hope to get up to Chappel Hill before they're gone to visit the Lavender Farm, but that may not happen this spring.

Use what talents you possess; the woods would be very silent if no birds sang there, except those that sang best.

    Welcome  Suzannecarol,

Northstar hasn't been here for quite some time, but the rest of us have remained to welcome you and others to a really great area of BC. Org.  We have become good friends here and try to support each other through everything -- not just our cancer diagnosis.  Life is full of so much -- and we want to give recognition to everyone here through everything -- no matter what part we may happen to find has turned up for us.

Hope you  will come often.  We will be thinking of you on Tuesday and hoping that all goes fine with your appt.

    Blessings

    Jackie

Yesterday went birding with a friend about 60 miles west of here. It isn't spring for me until I've had my annual fix of Snow Geese migrating. Lakes are still frozen here, but we managed to hit the jackpot and found a flock of about 2000 loafing in a field by a frozen lake. We positioned the car as a windbreak in the 40 mph wind and watched as more and more birds kept flying in and joining the group until there were about 5000. Periodically the whole flock would rise up and swirl around like a cloud above us, and then settle back down. Unbelievable noisy, and awesome beautiful.

Puffin, here we have tons of yellow finches and woodpeckers. We live in the middle of 57 acres beautiful and relaxing until you find something you don't want like a snake (uh have to shot um) lol. We also live near the tennessee river so in the fall the ducks come in it is beautiful to watch like you snow geese. I love nature also the deer and turkey come up in the back yard so sweet. Bunnies are my favorite until they eat my flowers. (Haha ) Back down in the 20 so I am so wanting some warm weather. I enjoy getting dirty with my flowers. Making hash from a left over pork roast and doing laundry. Thinking of everyone. Shuf

Had to make an unscheduled trip to my daughters in Maryland.Just got home. Brrr, was as cold or colder there than here. Made it to 44 today. A lot of Geese on the way back, but some of the ponds re still iced over.

The birds here ate a ton of seed and suet this winter , with all the very cold weather. I have a thing for Gold Finches, we have a lot of them. My kitchen has a lot of Gold Finch decor. As far as the deer, we have a ton, they eat everything from Rhodendrons to tulips. Gave up on a vegetable garden years ago, between deer and woodchucks! Also we have a lot of Lyme around here from the deer ticks! Also we live in a lof home and the woodpeckers are quite damaging. I expect to see one stick his head thru one day. When we hear one we beat on the walls and windows. They are a protected species. I put out fake Owls and put pinwheels around the house!

bonnets, sounds great! But wouldn't be to funny to see a woodpecker head through the wall would it! I hear those alum plates that come with pie shells work for woodpeckers string them together. My deer usually stay down by the peach orchard so not in my flowers yet. I will keep praying. Shuf (live, laugh and love)

Puffin, I've never seen a snow goose.  The scene you describe evokes a beautiful picture in my mind.  We used to have deer but all their habitat has been destroyed by development.  Every winter we keep birdfeeders full of black oil sunflower seed and have a lot of finches.  They're turning yellow now and are so pretty.  They go north when it gets warm.  In the winter they're a grayish color.

One year we went to Texas looking for bluebells and were only able to see them at a big plant nursery.  It was a bad year for bluebells.  That must be a glorious sight when they're blooming along the highways and roads.

Welcome, Suzannecarol.  We hope you'll join our group and update us after you have your dr. appointment.

Sandra, that's wonderful that you and dh are able to make this trip.  You both deserve a change of scene and some fun.

Happy Monday to all.  Housecleaning on my schedule for today.

We bless the life around us far more than we realize.  Many simple, ordinary things that we do can affect those around us in profound ways:  the unexpected phone call, the brief touch, the willingness to listen generously, the warm smile or wink of recognition.

Ok, I have to say it --- going to be sunny and 70 here today and I'm going to be  happy as can be.   Tons of things to get done, but that is ok.  Suzannecarol, look for a pm from me a little later.  I have to go out and feed my feral cats, make a bank deposit  and then back home here to work here on the computer and get some work done in the house.  At my house --  on the deck side of the living room ---  is a bank of four long and wide windows.  A tiny bit farther down is a glass storm door, top to bottom, and an interior door that has almost as much clear glass.

Before I did much else this morning ( actually I was still in pj's ) I washed all those windows inside and out.   While sitting in my recliner watching news on t.v. I kept staring at those filthy windows.  Not so much dirt -- my cats love to sit in front of those windows and the kitchen doors ( the big glass ones beyond our windows ) and the cat sneezes were horrendous.  By tomorrow -- we will see all the smears I likely left for washing those windows while it was so sunny --- but I just couldn't stand it.  Something can be messy in some way for a long time -- once my psyche has honed in on it --- I just have to get it fixed somehow.  Wish I could HONE in on a few more things than I do.

Ok --- I will see you all later then.

    Blessings

    Jackie

p.s.  Carole -- I still thinking of snow geese too.

Good Morning Ladies, Jackie it is going to be nice and sunny here too. Thank goodness for spring! As some of you might know I had terrible roof of my mouth pain right after surgery with it steadily getting worse each day. Went to dentist and he said maybe abscessed tooth but wasn't sure. Put me on antibiotic and it finally kicked in and pain went way down. Can still feel something but dentist called and can get me in this afternoon to open it up and pack with meds. I hate going to the dentist. I am ashamed to say I am the biggest chicken in the world at the dentist. I had such bad experiences as a child and good grief I should let it go already. I have gone to this dentist for 20 years. I trust him....as much as I will anyone. LOL I will be glad when it is over (appt. 4:00) as original appt. was Friday. Hope to have good news to report tomorrow.

Oh, I have a bird building a nest again in the swag over my front door. When this first happened last year I thought, how sweet for you birds to have such a good place for a nest. But they crapped all over my front door so I told husband we need to take swag down but guess what we didn't in time and now new mamma is building nest so I will get out the cleaning stuff and start on the door again. That stuff is hard to get off.
