How about something like this, Chevy?

Another gal posted this on another thread.... about worrying if our cancer will come back.... I thought it was great!
"seat belt speech
You don't assume you will get into a car accident every time you get in your car. You do put on your seat belt and drive carefully. Same with breast cancer. Eat right, maintain a healthy weight, exercise, and take your hormone therapy (if prescribed). No reason to think you are going to get mets until you actually have a symptom.
shit happens speech
Some people win the lottery and become millionaires too but do you really think that's going to happen to you? Shit happens. Sometimes good shit, sometimes bad shit, but most of the time shit doesn't happen. Don't assume shit is going to happen to you.LIFE
Remember the word "if" is in the middle of the word "life" for a reason. As long as you have life you will always have "what ifs". It's your MO's job to worry about those cancer "What Ifs"0 -
Good morning insomniacs- got a check going in the mail to the IRS today, but got a refund from the state, so I am out just out a bit this April. We came pretty close this year with my estimated payments! My accountant rocks!
Teka- sorry to hear about your leg problems. Feel better sister.
I finally slept the best I have in a good week. I don't sleep well when I travel, but also more challenging with staying in other people's spaces even family! I am up and going and have some more biz dev work to do today. Also must get back to the gym!
I saw this on FB today and thought it was funny for us insomniacs! Wishing you all a good day!

Still have my port, my MO wants me to keep it as well. Went to see her last month before the CT Scan and they flushed mine before doing blood work and it worked fine. Don't have to go back to see the Practical Nurse at the cancer center until June!

No, I could never FIND it, or connect to it when I first started....
Dutchess! Sorry I missed your post.... Yes, we had something like that near the phone! And remember all those phone books? We still get a couple, but nothing near what they used to deliver....and calling information cost 50 cents.... Ha! You paid for all long distance calls..... I was a LD operator right after I graduated.... Worked for Mountain Bell until I was 8 months pregnant....
I remember listening for the coins to drop in, when someone was calling Long Distance from a pay-phone.... Each coin had a distinct sound.... and when their 3 minutes were almost up, we had to break in, and remind them..... if they kept talking, we would then go back "in" and ask them to please deposit more coins for 3 more minutes....
We could listen to their conversations, which we DID....
And sometimes let the gal next to us know what was going on! Sometimes those conversations would make us blush..... Hah! 0 -
And everybody TALKED LOUD because you were LONG DISTANCE.

hi ladies. Still in hospital , still not keeping anything down but feeling stronger ftom all these fluids. Not dehydrated and more. Dr hinting around about me going home yesterday and again today. As much as I want to be at home it just doesn'take sense. If I am not keeping anything down with iv nausea med how am I going to keep anything gown at home ??? I think it had up do with medicare only paying for the first 3 days. Then if they sent me home and I have to come back they get 3 more days from medicare. It just doesn't seem to be a good practice.
SAS I tried calling you but no luck snd no voice mail. Just wanting to pick your brain. I am totally exhausted I can't stay up for very long without sleeping. I will pm you my number and you can call at your convince , if you want To
Hello and hugs to all. Can't temember everything but def liked Chevys post about shit happens.

Patty- ((((hugs)))) totally sucks. I hope you feel better and I think staying there makes more sense, until you can eat and drink.
Hopeful- No I have not been to that Lilac Garden, sounds great! This weekend is supposed to rain and our Lilacs (2 white 2 purple) are budding but not open. Have you ever been to Hendrick Park in Eugene? It's stunning all the Rhodies and Azaleas, camillias etc.. Just gorgeous. So is the Portland Rhodie garden. Every time we go there we see lots of baby geese and ducks so fun! I was gardening all day and my hips are just killing me.. up down, up down... trimmed a hedge (filled 2 yard waste cans), potted plants, cleaned out a bed etc... So now I HURT.. love this weather and the sunlight. My flu is slowly resolving... yay Found a wonderful nearby Nursery that had HUGE gorgeous begonias for 3$ ooohhh
Stayed up and watched that show Cancer the Emperor of all Maladies. Did any of you see it? It was interesting. Amazing that prevention has saved more lives then the treatments have. I would like to read the book.
Hi Foots. Glad you are hanging in there and Faith is good. Hi Blondie! Howdies to all! Nighty nite.

I FINISHED RADS TODAY!!! Hello all

Hopeful--That lilac garden sounds interesting. I might have to check that out.
Foots--praying for you like you pray for me, combined faith is a powerful thing. hugs
Ray--haven't tried the chat room. have you?
Patty--so sorry you are STILL in the hospital. Have they figured out what is causing all of this?
Rose--I want to read that book too. Are you a Northwesterner too? The talk of Lilac and rhody gardens made me wonder. My inlaw's property has tons of different kinds of rhodies.
All I can say about ports is that I don't think they could PAY me to keep mine. But I'll wait and see. I try not to be stupid about things. If my MO gives me a good enough reason then I'll think it over. I don't think mine is worth the pain. If I ever need it again, I would rather have it placed in a better spot.
Blondie--I'm still learning about everyone here, so please forgive me if I shouldn't ask this, but you mentioned keeping your port for hospice at some point. This is not and IF, it's a WHEN?

Mombie, definitely check out the garden. It has a very interesting history and a huge number of varieties. It is well worth the trip - just choose a fair weather day! You can call ahead to check on how far along the blooms are, too. Now that you've survived rad. you deserve a treat! And yes, Rosie is another webfoot. So is Debbie (FootprintsAngel)
Rosie, I feel your pain!! The first few sessions in the garden after a winter indoors you really feel all those muscles and joints, don't you? Ouch. Time for a long, hot bath maybe? That was a great buy on the begonias - well done!
I haven't been to Hendrick Park - will add it to my list. I do enjoy the Rhododendron Garden but haven't been there yet this year. The rhodies are early this year, so I should get over there soon. There are some good growers and hybridizers down there in the area, too...
I didn't watch the series, although I'd read the book when it was first published. Everyone I've spoken to about the film, however, has praised it as very powerful and well done. I'm going to get it from the library once I'm feeling a bit more resilient. The book is a good read; it's long and very gripping. Well worth reading. It's kind of a sobering idea regarding prevention vs. treatment, isn't it?
Need to get some work done and go to bed. Tomorrow is a long day.
Hugs to all.

Mombie Zombie,

Blondie- Are you home with the twins? Can't one of them drive to Walmart and get you groceries? They have meals on wheels too. I know it's not the same as making what you feel like eating. Sorry you are on prednisone... hate that stuff. Makes me jittery and wired. Sorry about the eyes and being alone. Is your ankle any better? Can you walk at all? Is that your cat that you had in the avitar? At least you have the cat to curl up with. I don't know if you were signed up hospice if they provide help with getting groceries. I don't know. Glad to se you post though! Hope you are feeling good.
Mamaray- hope you get some sleep.. steroids don't help.
Night to all.

Blondie--Thanks for being open with me. I don't know the right thing to say. I will pray for you every day though and I'm glad we get to be friends here. That's a bummer about the food shopping. Wish I could help.
Ray--Thanks! I feel so many different kinds of relief, I can't even begin to describe it! I'm sure I'll be up all night savoring the moment. lol
0 -
Ray--My DH calls me a cave bat because I come to life at that time. I hope you can fall asleep soon. Did you mention steroids keeping you up? Can you take some dyphenhydramine to countermand that?
0 -
Blondie! Does Walmart deliver where you are? They have that program here, along with other grocery stores.... With Walmart, you can order stuff on-line, and either they deliver, or you pick it up...
Rosie, have you thought of getting a kneeler?

This is what I use, inside and out! It really helps.... You can turn it over, and sit on it.... and it folds up.
0 -
Blondie- I wished I lived closer as I would sure as heck would take you to Walmart or bring you what you need. Dang, this should not be this hard.
Rose also made a good suggestion with meals on wheels. They are a great organization and it would at least be a good way to ensure you have meals and can be supplimented with things from the grocery store when someone can go for you.
I also saw the first part of Cancer: The Emperor of all Maladies. So much history around this disease I had no idea about and how we got to where we are today. I think the second part is yet to run on PBS (watched the first one on line as it was on Monday night when I was heading home). Anything Ken Burns does is always well researched and presented in his documentaries.

PattyP it's a wrong number. The lady who has the number nicely called and let me know.0 -

Happy Friday. Guess what? I don't have to go anywhere today! First day, no rads.
Jazzy--I'm with you. I wish we could jump to each other's aid when there is a need.
That's the part of these threads that makes me itch. Everyone is so far away. I can only sympathize. But I'm glad we can at least do that. And pass along info. I found out a different friend in a different thread is alone a lot. I itch to go visit and fix that.
I don't have television in my house. All this talk about that PBS show sounds so interesting. I am going to have to see if I can find it to watch on YouTube or something. Anyone know any links?

HAPPY FRIDAY OWLETTES

Tried calling Phylis. went to voice mail. Tried calling PattyP wrong number.
Thanks all for comment on Pics. Susan so funny. Rosie, OMD if I took pics on all the glass we would have pages covered.
MombieZ, Love your stories and thanks for posting on W&F's. W&F's really has a mission to be funny and inspirational to all. W&F's didn't start that way, but that's what it grew into.
Mombie , your port hurts. That is a strong reason for removal when not needed. Many reasons why, but for once I won't go off the deep end explaining why. For those that ports aren't a problem and want to keep them, docs shouldn't interfere. Many reasons why too. Spookie and Blondie described it very well as to the benefit. My Sister's had her second port now for 7-8(8-9?) years. She regretted taking out the first port, but was pressured by her doc. Then needed one again. Works great.
Blondie I'm just gobsmacked that a Social Worker can't line you up for all kinds of different sources of volunteer help. The volunteers through different groups are there in abundance throughout the USA. The SW 's are the network link of who's doing what. I'll see what I wrote on JD-GP. I know I've written here of it too. It's a soapbox item.
Hopeful did you get genetics report?
Rosie, it didn't start as a shrine LOL. I have two bow( knee high sitting/shelf area) windows. With bay windows they have floor area. The bow windows are difficult to decorate. I used to redo them every few months. Once I found the mannequin it became a permanent fixture. For clothes that I had saved from along ago time, I would dress the mannequin in different things. But it got to be too much. Plus, changing the window decorations became a bit dangerous. I have a tendency to get focused to the exclusion of all else. One time, I walked off into thin air. Thank God, I landed on the bed.
Teka glad your legs are better. hate pain.......
Mammaray, hows your son? Sorry I've forgotten his name. The chat room folks are wonderful. But they move at lightening speed. i.e they can type fast, I'm a two finger typer that has to look at the keys.
Foots Hugs Praying..........
Chevy, the pool lights at night were no fun at all. It's a very nice inviting space with the lights on and candles------lots of candles.
Mommyof2 there you are, missed you. How's Princess?
Spookie this is so true "And everybody TALKED LOUD because you were LONG DISTANCE.". Reminds of my dadone time trying to help a fella that only spoke Spanish. He kept raising his voice, like it was going to make difference.
Rosie I do have one spot we do call the shrine Off to take pics.

This is a 14 inch silver overlay platter. One of my favorites. Some overlay was coated with Rhodium. This one is Rhodium. Rhodium is very sturdy and doesn't tarnish. This is my favorite pattern. Their were few glassmakers that did overlay. They bought the Elegant glass from other glass makers and then did the overlay. This first link is to a page that has many examples of silver overlay
https://www.etsy.com/search/vintage?q=Sterling+Silver+Glass+plate
this link give's a short history of silver overlay
This link is to the Kent Collection of Claret Jugs. Claret jugs go back to ancient times. They are used to hold wine. They were filled from the wine barrels by servants and brought to the dining table. The Kent collection has gathered some of the most exquisite works. They are truly art. This can be a very nice diversion to wander through this site learning the history. I found this site when I was trying to locate what my new lemonade pitcher was long ago. The stunning beauty and the skill of the artisan will mesmerize you. Enjoy

Hmmmm seems they're is a discoloration on the bottom right. It's a shadow off the table. It's perfect over the whole plate.

Lovely plate. What makes it special? Wedding gift? Family heirloom?

Mommie, I got interested in silver overlay after finding the Kent collection. I purchased the plate off EBAY. You will love the Kent Collection. It's a walk through time sort of thing

This little plate was thrifted at Salvation Army for a quarter. Almost gave it away. Very happy I didn't. It's from the early part of the last century. Higbee glass. Arched Fleur De LIs pattern. Introduced in 1907. This link is to the same piece on pininterest. You can see all the lovely details. This is pressed glass versus cut glass- known as Early Americam Pressed Glass--EAPG

Nice, I like it. Really beautiful. I have a milk glass collection. Not as fancy as the silver onlay, but I like the old fashioned look.
My mother in law took some of the photos that I'm too tired to take. Here are some little examples of the "walk in the park" atmosphere here.
