Rose--it depends on local policy. I would call your local comm center and ask. For mine, if it's a landline phone and someone dials but doesn't say anything, they get an officer. Cellular calls, because we get sooooo many, we call back. If they answer and they need help, they get it. If they don't answer or don't say anything then we don't send any. Unfortunately, people only see TV and movies and believe we can instantly find someone. The reality is that most cell calls originally come in with the cell tower as an address and it takes 10-20 seconds for it to pop up the right latitude and longitude to get a good location and even that isn't precise because we can get a radius of 3 meters to 100 meters. At that point, we can call the cellular carrier to get a billing address which can take an additional 5 minutes. Sadly, if they're using a prepaid phone or have a small carrier like Locust Communications and it's after 7 PM CST, they're most likely out of luck. I think those calls where we know someone needs help but we exhaust all avenues of finding them are probably the most stressful for me--after 21 years, there's not much that rattles me anymore.
Have you looked into a video relay service if your children can sign? And most agencies are required to be TTY compliant. There's also a system called "fixed wireless" where if any cell calls are made within the area of your house, they list your address as the location of the cell call. Check with your carrier to see if they have that option. Also, I don't know about Oregon but in California, if you've ever had a landline phone registered to your house and the phone company hasn't reassigned your number, as long as you have a phone plugged in, you can still dial 911.
Sas--my left ankle is the same after the dog dug the trap. If I'm wearing even the slightest heal and step on a barely uneven surface, I'm doing my best stuntman tuck-and-roll. And I have to take a walking stick when I go hiking or I'd end up getting helicoptered out by search and rescue!
Jazzy--have fun. I made it from the couch to the lounger in the back yard but that's as much exercise as I'm going to get today!

Marla.... that was very good advice for Rosie!
Yeah, I would call their non-emergency number, and tell them the circumstances, and if they could get help by dialing 911, and not speaking!
And that's right! Once you fall, you are so afraid, and maybe too careful of falling again..... I find it easy to fool around out in the yard with a bamboo pole, and holding onto it, like a walking stick.... we have so many un-even flag-stone pieces in our yard.... I glued a rubber tip on the bottom, so it's kind of like a treking pole... easier than a cane!
The ground shifts, and we haven't re-done any of it.... but we are used to it.... but being able to balance if you have the least little bit of trouble, really helps.

Marlana- I will call and ask. When we had our landline I never worried because I knew they would come, even if no one said anything but were able to make the call. But now that things are all cell.. hmm not so sure! I mean think how many butt dials there are?
We already have video relay and the kids are experts at it - but it requires being at our computer, infront of the camera, making a call, answering yada yada... if the house was on fire or someone was breaking in- forget it! I guess texting 911 and giving the address would make more sense. The kids have phones. It's kind of scary because deaf kids make noise and don't hear themselves, so they are sitting ducks if the intruder is hearing. We have come into the house and startled our deaf kids nearly out of their skin, because they didn't realize we were there! Playing hide and go seek was a joke my hearing daughter won always!

The woman who owned this house before us was hearing impaired. The man rigged a flashing light system across the ceiling so she would know if the phone was ringing, or doorbell.
And one year I drove a small bus load of deaf kids. They'd be signing away, cracking up laughing. I don't know anything about ASL, couldn't even tell them to sit down. There was usually an adult with them. I always thought they were cracking up about me. Good kids

It is so funny having deaf kids. Like just 2 minutes ago my DD3 went to the bathroom and left the water running after she washed her hands. DH went in to her bedroom and said go back in the bathroom and tell me what's wrong? DD3 was like"what??" She comes back.. oh.. sorry! She turned off the water. I have gotten up at night and had that happen, found the water running. $$ down the drain! Then we had the switch for the garbage disposal put under the sink because they can't hear it if it gets accidentally pushed on and they were to reach into the drain to get something. Off goes the fingers. It's amazing the little things not hearing can make!
Good for you Spookie being able to drive a bus with all their noise. When ever I have had a gaggle of teens in the car I have to remind them no screaming or sudden bursts of noise while driving... scares me. Central nervous system damage! I wish we lived in Florida because the school for the Deaf is HUGE and has such a great program. My DD3 would just love it. I drove to ST Augustine to see it and the city. Impressive!

Spookie- mother forklift. LMFAO!

It's so interesting reading about the girls Rosie! When I put my hearing aids in, it's like "turning on" the world.... But when I take them out, I can't hear anything...
And DH still thinks it's funny when I suddenly jump when I realize he is right behind me... He is quiet, and I've asked him over and over to PLEASE don't sneak in the house, or up next to me... because even with the aids, you CANNOT hear things as well! But you know, it could be worse......
And then HE has super-sonic hearing, and can hear a flea fart in a wind-storm! He wears ear-plugs at night...
Going with our daughter "from another Mother" July 1st. Going for a biopsy...... Rosie is so afraid... She called last night, and I just KNEW something was wrong... The Mammograms, and Ultra-sound "think" there is something "different"... and of course like all of us, she is afraid.... But I told her I would be there with her, on that Wednesday, then we'll see what comes up... Her Husband has to work... After, we will go to breakfast....
She was with me and DH and the girls for my surgery, and after... She is from Viet Nam.... and just had her eyes "opened"... They did this on her eye-lids... because they were "drooping"....
Boy if it ain't one thing it's another.........

Chevy- I hope your friend's biopsy is negative. Many things are benign, had a few of those along the way as long as the lovely surprise in 2012. It is good she has you to go with her. I had my first biopsy at age 39 during a baseline mammo and was terrified. It turned out to be nothing and hope the same for your friend.
It hit 101 yesterday, ugh. Like walking into a blast furance when you go outside. But the evening was lovely and the skies did their magical display last night of the moon, with Jupiter and Venus near by. I love it when the plants start lining up (in ever sense of that phrase).
I have a friend who moved to town coming for dinner later today and must get to getting some house things and food things done. Wishing your families a good Father's Day for those of you who celebrate, as well as a happy first day of summer.

well I'm off to Tahoe this morning. Have to finish packing. I'll post some pics when the reception allows.
Everybody stay safe and sane this Father's Day.
Chevy, sorry about your "other" daughter. Hope it's nothing. My friend who is triple negative just got results that it hasn't spread so she scheduled for a bmx on Thursday. Too young for this crap. We're all to young for this crap.
Take care

Chevy- that was some kind of dinner! wow! Looks yummy and I bet it was too. I hope Rosie's biopsy is just nothing and she lives to be old old old and happy. That generation has been through enough. I laughed so hard about your DH hearing a flea fart in wind storm! What a Hoot! My Dh has sonic hearing too! The rest of us... not so much. I take my hearing aides out and it's lovely... everything gets turned down to nearly nothing.. ahhh. We headed up to Portlandia for lunch with DD and her love interest this afternoon.. tall fellow from Montana. Nice and friendy. It must be my generation but I simply can't get used to tattoos. sigh.. I'm an old fart I guess. I had to admit I liked him, not the tattoos. We walked around the city and I kept up with the family, but just barely. My one leg is painful in so many spots that it's just a relief to lay flat and not move. Gorgeous weather this weekend. It's supposed to be 101 by next Saturday. Yikes. Hope ya'll had a great weekend.

When DS and DIL got married, they got matching tattoos. They were from an aboriginal painting I bought in Canada showing outlines of 2 birds intersecting. They had the same picture on their wedding program. They will never be able to discourage their kids from getting inked.

Chevy- what a feast. Was it good? Prayers for Rosie and that she does not have anything to worry about. I know you will be there to support her no matter what. She is a lovely lady.

Yes.... I've been busy painting our fence! And going to Walmart, and getting more paint.... cream color to paint our house! I have brushes, rollers, AND a paint sprayer! Ass soon as I finish all this fence, I'll take pictures.... Then start on the house!
I LOVE that picture.... I can do that..... just so you know.
0 -
yes, of course you can. Photo PLEASE

Chevy LOL, I can do that too! As long as I don't get near a 2 inch step. Painting the house? At your ADVANCED age? WHY? Should I send some of my staff over? Beautiful picture of Rosie
Sweet that she brought dinner. Very nice that you are able to go with her for her bx. Blessing really.High Ho One----hope it's fun
Once the basics are done it's nice and easy---do it when you want, if you don't , you don't. Love that stage. In the 70's we made 4 moves in 5 1/2 years. Learned fairly quick make sure the bathrooms and kitchen are done first First priority was the TP. I still have boxes never unpacked from the move in 1992. Blistering heat here, how they survived in Florida pre air-conditioning and bug control.

Well, I got another call today from a credit card company with something trying to apply for credit with my info. The first one happened a couple weeks ago right around this time before I went on my biz trip. I immediately put a fraud alert with the three credit agencies the same day and passwords on my bank accounts. Today I went to the credit union and was asked for a password and went "oh crap" but then remembered it!
Anyways, got another call today from Discover whom received an application and with the fraud alert, they called me so I could say "not me."
It is going to be a wicked 103 here today so when I am done with my business work, I am going to the movies and then music class. Trying to stay cool!

Jazzy, How did they steal your info? I know you told us, and we had a big discussion. But I forget.................. I have fraud alerts until July. I have it on my calendar to do a freeze for August 1st.0 -
Well, I'm too busy right now.... Later on maybe....
Oh wait..... I found one taken yesterday.......
