I will be happy to share pictures from the Cuba trip. I am going with the jazz workshop here in NM, very involved with them and also play latin jazz, so the trip is oriented around that. I think it is going to be most excellent!

Yikes have I been away too long! Life gets in the way, but I suppose that's a good thing. Summer is going by too fast, I too will be going to the beach in a couple weeks, but to the north in Rhode Island. Can't wait--I REALLY need this vacation!

Welcome Annie, I had a Fitbit but I dropped it and it got run over in the parking lot, I am going to get myself another one just have had a lot of expenses - vacation, car insurance, airline tickets and entrance fees to two events in August but definitely going to replace with another Fitbit. Odie I hope you had cake for me, I went to a wedding on Friday night and they had a photobooth and of course the silly sign I chose for myself was "I came for the cake"
Badger "out of the mouths of babes" that was funny. Kat welcome back your trip sounds wonderful and beautiful pictures, a friend of mine is in Greece right now and after all the pictures shes posting I want to go there too.... I need to win the lottery
. ((((Wonderland/Ruth)))) from me, I know you'll have fun together.Saturday I did 30 minute Grit Cardio class followed by Body Pump Express, and yesterday did Body Pump Express, RPM and Body Flow. LB it was "release week" here so we did BF69 we had 4 Flow instructors in the class they were all supporting each other all morning in all the classes it was amazing to see them "on our side" instead of "in front".

Welcome Anne! I love my Fitbit Charge. Just got done with a very fun lunch with Wonderland, who tried to teach us how to speak with a North Carolina accent.

We went out for a special brunch yesterday and walked along the river walk for a bit then walked when we got home another 30 minutes. It's too hot to walk today. 88 degrees and feels like 88 percent humidity too!
Welcome Annie. I have not invested in a fit bit. I use argus on my phone to track my activity and it's free.
Sounds like you're having fun Ruth and wonderland.

Hi Annie88. . .I've had my Fitbit Charge for about two weeks. Pretty cool device. It sync great with my phone and tablet. It's kind of weird how it tracks my sleep though. . .awake 4 times and restless 29 eek. I like how you can adjust goals up and down since I'm having surgery again in two weeks and will be down and out for a few weeks then have to work back up.
3 miles today walking and 30 stairs.

5 mile hike yesterday, 4.5 mile jog today 😊

Hi Everybody! Had a wonderful lunch with Ruth, her sister, and Ruth's friend from ND. I already miss her! I'm holding Ruth's hand because I don't want her to leave.

Welcome newbies. Wonderful thread - you will totally enjoy it.
Ruth and Wonderland, great pic. It is hot here too. Sorry could not join you but we are in the mountains and I am loving Asheville in particular and NC in general (just like I loved CA when I was there). Today we walked and walked and walked a trail to view several waterfalls. Lovely. Yesterday we rode higher in the mountains to find the Hot Springs and will go back on Friday to actually bathe in them. Tomorrow Biltmore Estate (250 rooms + grounds). Rest of week and next will be doing downtown Asheville, relax on a lake, ride the Blue Ridge Parkway (Yikes!), enjoy a total spa day at the Grand Omni Hotel, visit the Cherokee Reservation, have lunch with a friend, train ride/lunch across the Smoky mountains. Tires me out just typing all that but having a great time.
This would have been a wonderful trip for us as there is so much to do and see.
Night sculpted friends.

Have a Facebook friend who lives in Croatia, so treated to pictures all the time. Gorgeous place, and somehow I'm not doing things right. She drinks wine in 18th Century palaces. I drink wine in local dives. Plus, she always is always perfectly turned out. I look a bit worse for wear when doing something like the STP. But a fun person and I will get there one day.
On the STP, well.....I finished the ride and just fine with how I did. Had a bit of a worry as I heard a loud buzz/grinding sound on the fast downhills. Turns out that I have some wonky rear bearings, so my bicycle is now in the shop. I got things checked out, and was OK to finish the ride. But a bit of a worry as watched a friend of mine have her rear hub fall apart a few years ago. I was the one who cycled the 10 miles to the car to rescue her, and then had to figure out the ROADS back to where she was!!!
Other highlights were the Lewis-McChord base and the vintage aircraft. A funny story. At the midway point, I went to the local bar for some microbrew. The barmaid recognized right away that I was a STP rider because I was "walking funny"!
Of course, my guy finished this in one day, but I'm claiming 9 for 9!
Work today was a killer. Rolled in around 2 as had things that I had to get out (after bus ride back and taking bicycle to shop). Right now, making dinner with REAL FOOD!!!
Touched by the lady who has baked banana day for 22 years for the riders. Also all the people who turn out to help with the ride. Especially the church ladies who made an afternoon of it, partying while they handed out free water (and clean toilets) to us just as we were about to enter a 12 mile stretch.
I noticed the benefit of all the training at the end when I still had something left and enjoyed Portland. Plus, a much easier ride over the Lewis and Clark Bridge at Longview.
Was the only lady at the midpoint church stay-over who pitched her own tent!
Noticed a cow in a field who wanted to be with us, and not the others who couldn't have cared less.
I was exhausted going into the ride from a crash and burn assignment Thursday-Friday, so times were not as I had hoped. But the big accomplishment is that I pushed through and did it!!! Next year is #10, and I can't wait.
Now, on to the next adventure. - Claire

Congratulations Claire you are amazing! Wonderland I totally understand, I hate saying goodbye when we have our get togethers. Patoo your trip sounds fabulous, this retirement thing seems to be going well for you. Scottiemom I think the sleep thing is a bit 'off' on the Fitbit, I know I'm a restless sleeper but I think it's recording when you just move your arm.
Tonight did a U Jam class0 -
hbcheryl you are right. I slept like a log last night for first time in weeks and Fitbit says I was restless all night. Must have been good dreams. Wish I could remember them.
Claire you are amazing and give me hope that my current never say never attitude will take me to new heights and will last a lifetime.

I don't bother with the sleep thing on my fitbit. I agree with hbcheryl that if you just move an arm it says you are awake. How can I wake up 28 times a night - really? It's an expensive gadget to count steps but I like that it also records walking hills as part of climbing flights.
Raining here today so good day to roam around the Biltmore Estate.
Have a great day sculpted friends.

Wonder and Ruth - looks like a fabulous time. And Patoo - you're sure keeping busy! Sounds like you're getting the most out of your NC visit. Claire - what a wonderful ride you had!! And how great that you had the extra energy at the end to really enjoy it - all that hard work you've done this past year really paid off. Any pix to post?
C25K Week 6, Day 3 this morning. It's humid and muggy in the morning these days - I miss those crisp winter morning runs! Passed by one very curious deer - when I stopped to take her picture, she actually walked towards me to check me out, and got within about 10 feet! I think she couldn't figure out what this red-faced sweating primate with the hot pink top was doing, and wanted to take a closer look!!

Also, does anyone know anything about Chicago?
We have a family event in Milwaukee on Saturday, August 8th. Flights to Milwaukee are really expensive, and I'm finding better bargains going to Chicago. The Cubs play at 3pm on Friday, so we were thinking of taking an earlier flight so we could get to Chicago to take in the game, then spend the night in Chicago, and head out to Milwaukee first thing Saturday.
Hotels near Wrigley are pretty pricey, but I noticed that Wrigley is right on the red line of the L. I was thinking that hotels might be cheaper at one end or the other of the red line, so we could stay further out and just hop on the L to get to and from the game. Does anyone know of a decent hotel near the red line in a neighborhood that's not too dicey? It doesn't have to be fancy, but I don't want to stay in a dump either.

Thank you for welcoming me to your board! I am really enjoying reading your posts. The feedback on the Fitbit has helped me decide to get one in the coming weeks. The sleep thing will not work for me, as I am very restless.
Twohobbies-I went ahead and downloaded the Argus App to hold me over until I decide to get the Fitbit. It is nice to see the visual of the workout daily. It really makes me challenge myself.
Today I walked for 4 miles outside. It is definitely a workout here in South Texas, as the heat is on! We are 98 degrees today. Afterwards I took my kids to the water park nearby to cool down.
Have fun and stay cool today!!

Mary, I grew up in Joliet, 30 minutes from Chicago!! And we moved to California from Chesterton, IN, 40 minutes from Chicago! Lots to do in Chicago, beautiful city! There is traffic, but great shopping, hotels and restaurants!! Navy Pier is a great place to explore!! Hope that helped!!
Did a 6 mile bike ride today!!!

Katcar, gorgeous pictures from your vacation.
Congratulations on your ride, Claire! You always describe things so well.
Patoo, I LOVE the Biltmore. I was there one Christmas. Wow!
Nats, maybe badger will know about Chicago (she made the arrangements for us when we went there a couple years ago). Also, do you recognize the name lago from the boards? She is a Chicago girl, so if you PM her, maybe she could give you some clues.
I don't think the Fitbit is accurate at all on the sleep.....I am totally restless (I get up 3-4 times a night); and the 2 nights I wore it, it said that I was a peaceful and well-rested sleeper (I can't remember the exact term because I was laughing too hard while I was reading it).
We were up at 4:00am to get to the airport on time. A long day, but our flights were smooth, on time, and hassle free, so I can not complain. I would like to head over to yoga at 6:30 but I have to go to a meeting a 7:00 so they would overlap. Once my meeting is over, I am coming home and going to BED!

Sleep tight, Ruth.
Patoo: I went to the Biltmore House last year. Out of all the rooms, it was the laundry room that overwhelmed me.
Nats: Cute deer.
Claire: Way to go!
Annie: Going to a water park after a 4 mile walk sounds refreshing.
Fast walked/ran late this evening. So hot. So humid.

4 mile jog
gonna go learn if radiation is right for me tomorrow!0 -
Natsfan I'm a suburbanite so if you need a city/hotel info that is not downtown, Lago would probably be a good resource because I think she lives near Lincoln Park. I'm not sure if there's a bargain to be had! f you fly into O'Hare, you can take public transportation from O'Hare to Wrigley Field. Then you can take the Amtrak from Chicago to Milwaukee. If you are renting a car, you can park near Wrigley Field but it is limited, and you could head towards the northern suburbs for the night, or you could also stay somewhere near the airport, pick up your rental car next day and head to Milwaukee. I think it depends on whether you want to spend any time in the city that evening or just want a meal and a hotel. Let me know if you need more help on the suburban options.
Patoo you are right. There is plenty to do in Western NC. It sounds like you are having fun and getting plenty of exercise.
Pretty picture of your walk, Ruth. Claire it sounds like you had a good cycling trip.
I walked 30 minutes this evening.
Headed for a hopefully restful sleep. If I had a fitbit it would have shown a restless sleep last night!

Claire-congratulations on a huge accomplishment!
I do not wear my fitbit at night. I did not feel it was accurate and I don't like the way it feels on my wrist at night.
I did an hour of exercise at PT this morning and I was dripping with sweat!

Ruth, welcome home. Get some rest. You and Wonderland look great!
Claire, great ride, glad all your training paid off.
Cheryl, I most definitely enjoyed some cake for you
Patoo, enjoy retirement/NC
Good luck tomorrow Littleblueflower.
Exercise for me yesterday and today was bootcamp. The focus this week has been weights so I am really feeling the fruits of my labors.
Night all!!!!0 -
Hi everyone, I walked for 30 minutes today and really enjoyed the slight breeze. We're muggy here now but it was cooler than usual. I forget whether I responded to Ruth and others who gave suggestions on my recent aches. They were helpful and appreciated. Also, saw my Rheumatologist and he said to not hesitate to use the Aleve as needed. Also gave me some suggestions for exercises to help. So on we go!

7/14- nice walk on the bike trail tonight. A woman walking towards me said as she passed me "did you see that coyote that just ran behind you?" Gulp, no?
0 -
Jazzy we have a massive coyote problem here, I went to a meeting the city had with Fish and Game Department they said and I kid you not ' walk towards them and scream at them go away coyote go away' and wave your arms around
Glad you made it home safely Ruth. Nats I concur message Lago she is so nice and will steer you in the right direction, all I know is we took the bus out to a museum and cemetery and we passed by Wrigley Field, I'm going to Chicago the last weekend in August but I'm staying downtown.Tonight did Body Pump and Body Jam and I think my arms may fall off

Gym yesterday. 3.5 miles on treadmill plus arm weights. PS yesterday said no weights for 6 weeks after exchange then baby weights at first. Sad but expected. I'll be back to ground zero.

HBcheryl- I know about your coyotes in southern CA and know they are aggressive. My sister lost a cat to a coyote right in front of her eyes. She lives in a different place now with a wall around her property, so the cats are secured, but they make her nervous.
I have often seen them along the bike trail and they will look at you, but are on their way to whatever business they have going on. Our coyotes here are less aggressive, because we have a lot of wilderness area and food supply. That being said, when they come down into our neighborhood from across the street in the canyon area, they are looking for dinner for their families. Rabbits for sure, but cats are not safe here either.
