Wonderful pictures, Claire & Heidi! Your event sounds wonderful, Lilac!

I worked on a project all day (don't feel too sorry for me, I've been putting it off for two months), and just did an hour of spot toning with Denise Austin. Very few steps today, but I ran out of time and needed the toning more. Sad

7/19- 50 min at the gym today of resistance training followed by 20 laps in the pool.

Thanks to everyone for the good wishes. Still have a few more doc apts to get through this month, but the good mammo and ultrasound is the hardest for me to get through. Whew!

Good morning all! I am enjoying your photos so much. Heidi--that mountain photo is so dramatic. Lilac--the pilates fundraiser event sounded so cutting edge and fun, and the garden photos are beautiful. Claire--your photo looks like postcard! Gorgeous. Congrats on all your recent achievements.

littleblue - you must be relieved to have chemo behind you. Congrats!

hbcheryl and jazzygirl - very happy for you that your exams put you in the all clear. I just got my mammo and all clear as well, although was surprised they didn't call me back for a sonogram which is normal for me due to dense breast tissue. Is it protocol to get a mammo/sonogram followup every 6 months? I would think the radiation exposure is of some concern? I have had 2 diagnostic mammograms since my "bad" mammogram in November. Now I am getting ready for my recon surgery (gulp) and have to get blood tests and a chest x-ray. I absolutely hate exams--they make me a nervous wreck.

Scottie! I will be following your recovery!

I have been behind with my exercise due to all the doc appts and rain, rain, rain. Walked 45 minutes yesterday. I think I need to buy an exercise machine as it rained all night last night, and now it's a slimy mud pit out there.

Good morning! It is a beautiful day here.

Claire- Your pictures are so breathtaking! It must be great to go out for a walk there.

Jazzygirl- You must be so relieved to have all of that behind you. You need to celebrate!

Today I walked w/ my sister 3.75 miles. We had to get out early, as the temperature is expected to reach 100 today. We will be doing everything we can to stay cool.

    Enjoy your day!

Lilac - congratulations on the successful Pink Ribbon Pilates event. It looks wonderful. What a great job you've done and think of all the women you're helping.

Suzanne - as someone else said, let your body be your guide. If you're an experienced marathoner, you might be able to pull it off, even if you walk/run, or even walk most of the way. And do check out the running thread.

    Gorgeous pix, Heidi and Claire!

We had a hot (98 degrees) sticky ("feels like" of 105) day at the Nats game yesterday, but got in 11,000+ steps anyway. It was Star Wars Day at the ballpark, which was a lot of fun until the Dark Side prevailed and the Dodgers won. Devil

C25K Week 7, Day 2 run this morning. It was 82 degrees at 6am when I got out - YUKKKKKKKKKKKK!

Catching up after several exhausting days. Congrats to those with good test results and congrats littleblue on finishing chemo. Lilacblue, your event looks gorgeous, wish I could have been there too. You should be very proud of all you have accomplished.

Love the pictures and must figure out how to upload some myself.

Unfortunately we had sewer pipe back up late Friday night so my exercise for the weekend was cleaning and tearing out carpet in the basement SickTired.

Hot as Hades here today so I took advantage to wash and hang out all my rugs before spending the day swimming in the pool.

30 hot, fairly miserable minutes walking around the lake early before it hit the projected real feel or whatever they call it of 105...Bawling but done. And my niece gave me some stretching and strengthening moves to do at the gym tomorrow. She is a former dancer.

    Keep on keeping on everyone!

Odie what a weekend you must have had, tough hard work you deserve your pool time. It's not the heat here it's the humidity, we usually don't have it but the Baja storm that has brought us rain has also brought the humidity. Nats did you see the story about the Angels today, they were rained out yesterday and today used the Anaheim Police Department helicopter to dry out the field for tonight's game.

Tonight did Body Combat but for some reason I'm feeling very blah, this instructor has everybody come up to the front and form lines for the final 'fight' in front of the mirror and even though I gave my all, all I could think as I looked in the mirror was 'why am I bothering, I'm the oldest, I'm the biggest I can't get my knees up high why am I bothering' it's probably the heat and tomorrow ill wake up with a different attitude but until then I'm just going to have my own little pity party.

Looking forward to really following this board as I recover.

Yesterday 4.2 miles walking/hiking; 31 stairs. Fitbit counts the hills, although I'm not sure how accurately.

Odie - yuk!! Did you lose furniture or any boxes of stuff? What a mess. Cheryl - yes, I'd heard about the Angels rainout Sunday - the first time in 20 years! MLB Network this morning showed the helicopter drying out the field yesterday. Y'all don't know what to do with all that rain!!! Take it from someone who lives in a hot soupy climate - a pity party is a great way to deal with heat and humidity. SickTired You'll be raring to go again as soon as you get your normal SoCal weather back.

Ruth - I agree. Travel is fun, but there's something comforting about getting into a routine again.

Week 1, Day 3 of the squats program. I felt the last session, so it seems that they're doing me some good!

Cheryl, I get that way when I have done too many workouts with the perky DVD gals. You should come out to North Dakota and go to classes with me. We have people of all ages, shapes, and sizes....plus, being primarily of Northern European descent, no one has the slightest bit of rhythm (some stereotypes are true!); but we don't care, we just move anyway. Happy

Here is something that happened today which I think answers the question "Why bother?". My Cardio Sculpt class meets from 9-9:45 and at 10:00 a Silver Sneakers class meets in the same room. The Silver Sneakers ladies have coffee and a visit before their class in the lounge, and we stop and have coffee after our class.....so our coffee times intersect a little. Today as we walked in, one of the Silver Sneakers (a gorgeous, peppy lady) said, "Have a piece of the birthday cake I brought, and be sure to read what's written on it first." So we did, and it said, "Thanks YMCA for 86 great years!" She is turning 86 today! She said, "I have been coming to the YMCA for 30 years, and walking, and golfing. I feel GREAT, I am having a GREAT time, and I am absolutely certain that I would not be here at all if I hadn't exercised faithfully, so you girls (we are all in our 60s) KEEP IT UP!" WOW, it brought tears to my eyes (mingled in with the sweat). What a testament to exercise and a positive attitude both! So......I'd say we should exercise so we can be like Harriet when we grow up!

Cheryl: Sorry you're feeling blah. Heat and humidity can certainly cause that. It was horrible here yesterday and I decided not to walk outside. Why do something healthy for yourself when in fact you may be harming yourself? It's so draining! Hope your weather changes soon. We're supposed to have cooler and less humid weather tomorrow (high of only 90!) and I can't wait. Hang in there! You are an inspiration and role model for not only me but all the others in your classes. (((BIG HUG))) I can see you being just like the lady Ruth meet this morning. Plus, she's eating cake!

Oh Cheryl, it's a new day and you truly under estimate how important you are in the mix at your gym. The inspiration and confidence you so freely have given me, well, no one does it better and keep at it-we need you!Happy Kindergarten, please do report back on how you enjoyed yoga. Odie, you are amazing and Mary, yes, squats have that staying power.

New release body balance at the gym this morning.

What a great story, Ruth! I want to be like Harriet too!

When I was doing PT for my ankle earlier this year, the therapist said something that stuck in my mind. She said that physically, there's relatively little difference between a 25 year old who exercises and a 25 year old that doesn't. They still have pretty similar physical capabilities. But she said there's a world of difference physically between a 75 year old who exercises and a 75 year old who doesn't.

Another thing that sticks in my mind a sign a spectator held up during that half marathon I ran a few years ago. It said, "Someday you will not be able to do this. Today is not that day." I use that as my mantra when I'm feeling tired and unmotivated. During chemo there were many times when I physically could not do much of anything, and I hated that feeling, so my incentive is that I want to postpone feeling that way again for as long as I possibly can.

    Edited for spelling! Loopy

I definitely want to grow up to be like Harriet too! As Nats said, there is a world of difference as we age so we must keep moving.

Cheryl, I understand the need for the occasional good pity party but want you to know that even on your worst day, you could dance circles around half of us. Most definitely me! Take a pause then get those dancing shoes back on! We need our inspiration!

Natsfan, luckily the only thing lost was old carpet that was on the home improvement list anyway. Moved right up the list...LOL. I have complete admiration and sympathy for your recent flood. The cleanup process sucks!

    Lilacblue, waving across the pond!

Agree that there is comfort in a routine. Hence back to bootcamp tonight plus a few miles on the recumbent bike prior to class.

    Good night all.

Empathize with all the comments about the humidity. Did not do anything today except necessary errands. Soupy is a great word for it. I also was achey. Tomorrow is another day in which I too will strive to be a Harriet. My dad, who is 91 years old, works out 3 or 4x a week has been told countless times by his doctors that he is remarkable. I think we all are in our own ways, and probably inspire others more than we know just by showing up.

I too want to be like Harriet! Exercise definitely makes people age differently. It is what it does for us mentally as well as physically, for sure. I feel like it has been my salvation during the last year, since my DX.

Today I did 3.5 miles out in the heat. Afterwards I took my daughter to the water park to cool off. Finished the day at the movies w/ my son & daughter. I am exhausted from this day and hoping to rest
