Hi, just got back from a fun couple days with my old friends. Lots and lots of food and fun. I did an hour on the treadmill after I unpacked. So super and humid here (which is very unusual so we are not used to it!).
Glad you are safely landed in Florida, Patoo. You will have to post some pictures of your new digs when you get a chance. Sounds like lots of fun activity choices!
Hi to everyone else!

Jazzy that is funny, he probably doesn't have a clue that you're singing in your head. Patoo glad you made it safely, maybe we"lol just land at your house for our next vacation, sounds like a very fun place.
Did Zumba tonight, this guy stops at random times in the class and makes you do a one minute squat, tonight my poor legs were not happy at all.0 -
Patoo, reads a a terrific place to live and no more excuses with so much on offer. Cheryl, you have read my mind and I'm looking into Stockholm to see if filming Flow#71 still has tickets. That what I'd like to experience, I'd love to see a filming.
Off to cover a class in a bit.
Edited to add: I know, preaching to the choir but felt moved to add this link:http://www.wsj.com/articles/how-to-exercise-while-undergoing-cancer-treatment-1439221502

Lilac I just read the first article you posted. My breast surgeon had mentioned the recommendation had increased now to 300, but it was nice to be reminded that we are also decreasing fat as we exercise, even though the scale stays the same.
Like Claire, I think another benefit I have seen with more exercise is an HDL increase over all previous years. I just got back my results and was shocked to see an HDL of 61 after years of struggling to get to the recommended 50. My diet I changed two years ago so the only changes over last year are more sun and vitamin d and more exercise.
Patoo, it sounds like your new home is a fabulous place. How nice to have so many exercise opportunities.

I am off to Portland today to a Barn Bash a long term brain cancer survivor is holding to celebrate her survivorship. Proceeds benefit the nonprofit I do work for. This should be fun, but trying to think what I can bring for "Western attire"? I do have a fun hat, but don't think it goes well with the country skirt I have. This will take a bit of thinking through.
Since I am driving, I will make a stop and do a bicycle trail I don't get to regularly which is just before the half way point. Then, tomorrow morning I will explore something in Portland prior to heading back. Should be fun and exciting. This is prior to sitting down and grinding out 2 of 4 grant proposals we are moving forward with prior to uploading on Monday.
I am looking forward to cycling through an area of Portland that's NOT part of the Seattle-to-Portland route!!!
One point the WSJ article made is that important to have a doctor who supports exercise during treatment. My oncologist has told me more than once that none of her other patients get nearly as much exercise as I do. This is even with my health system sponsoring the Seattle-to-Portland every year. And with the CEO personally doing the ride!!!
Speaking of the oncologist, I had a visit there on Thursday. This, as part of the clinical trial protocol, so no real medical reason. Interesting, because I had done my physical one week prior, so found this to be a bother more than anything else. I am going to do a bone density test in a couple of months so see where I am post anastrazole. I didn't want to do immediately after stopping as wanted to give my system a chance to rebuild which I think is being helped greatly by a summer of exercise.
Need to hit the closet and start trying on clothes for my "Western outfit". So what I don't wear so will need to get "creative". But should be fun. Think though that I will need the cycling exercise as beer and burgers on the menu for tonight. Plus, a ton of fun. - Claire

Patoo- your new home sounds heavenly! I would love to have access to so many water activities.
Today's triathalon training: I rode 14 miles on my bike followed by a 3.1 mile jog (with some walking interspersed). 7 days left...

Go Ginger, go!!!!
Have my Barn Bash outfit figured out. Forgot that my resale Fendi vest reverses to black denim-like fabric, so just perfect. Goes great with my Holstein Western hat, and Prada jean-style trousers. Then, just the boots, T, and necklace I was wearing in the headshot. Feel badass and chic.
Think I will take my red shoulder bag for a pop of color. - Claire

Have fun at you barn bash! Sounds like fun.
Ginger good luck with your triathlon.
Another hot and sticky day here but today I thought it's better for this outdoor girl to go out inthe heat rather than back to the mall I walked around my usual lake 58 minutes. 85 degrees but at least not 90 like yesterday. After my walk I went down to their native garden because it's shadier and relaxed a little I got an extra treat because I came upon a girl taking pictures for her quincinera. It was like a wedding party except she had a huge tangerine colored ball gown instead of white So young, beautiful and vibrant if I could only be 15 again but know what I know now. Wouldn't that be fun!

Just walked this morning for 30 minutes getting to know my area. Then more shopping for stuff we need. Tomorrow will start visiting churches and then if it does not rain (pouring here now) will go to the pool. Need to browse the website to make some schedules. Planning to have an activity (or 2) at least 6 days a week. By the time we meet up for our 2016 'adventure' I should be in great shape!
Night sculpted friends.

What an exciting time for you, patoo! We are still under extreme heat warnings, so I was back on the treadmill and also did some toning with Denise Austin. I am babysitting a friend's cat and about to fall asleep because I am just sitting around and hanging out with her.

Ginger, enjoy the tri and you read as ready! TwoHobbies, I did not hear any guidelines from my doctors, although they know I do workout. My breast doc is into T. Colin Campbell and that pins her focus onto changing diet and my PS is into exercise. This is from the ACSM guideline: Preliminary observations, breast cancer survivors experienced improved body image as a result of a regular physical activity program. Add that to improved aerobic fitness and strength, decreased fatigue, and increased quality of life, and exercise proves to be a crucial part of recovery for cancer survivors. We already know that, but good to hear it again. Go Claire and what a fun event and Patoo, terrific new chapter in life starting for you.
Going to try to get DH to go on a long country walk with me in a bit.

Ginger I am so excited for you! I want to try a tri someday, LOL
I am following Hal Higdons Half Marathon Training and yesterday was a cross training day. I walked 30 minutes and my bum knee flared for the first time in a long while. Booooo
Today is supposed to be a long run so I am hoping it goes away.

hi all and welcome the new posters! Been off the boards long enough to have 6 pages to catch up on but glad I did. Great pix and funny stories like the poor guy shopping with two women on steroids and the Jason Werth chia-pet LOL.
Crazy busy the past few weeks with work, several family b-days (mine included), relatives visiting from out of town, and just back from the Sugar Maple Traditional Music Festival in Madison. Pretty site on Lake Waubesa and GREAT music. My guitar hero Bryan Sutton headlined Friday night with his band. Love the energy and joy of live performance.
Logging 60 miles walked since last post. Now on to another load of laundry. Have a great week ahead, everyone!

Happy Belated Birthday Badger. Woohooo Ginger, you go girl you've got this. Claire the main reason I started really exercising is that my oncologist said to me on my very first visit that the best thing I could do for myself was to exercise and yes I had gone to the gym before diagnosis but I used to be able to be talked out of it easy peasy, now no way, the GX room is my second home.
Well yesterday I had a full day of exercise starting out with Body Pump, then Body Step and then Sh'bam where my heart sang and I danced danced danced. In the afternoon I had a bike reserved for RPM buy when I got to the room there were a whole lot of people sitting outside who were wait listed, my quads were feeling really sore and I knew if I went in I wouldn't give it my all and I wouldn't put any tension on the bike so I gave up my spot and I went and did Body Vive instead, then Body Flow where I did the tai chi and the meditation, then came Body Jam and by the end I was spent so I just sat and watched Body Combat, I am shocked that today I don't feel as sore as I should but I do have a massage booked and I'm really looking forward to it.
LB this is for you. Yesterday at lunch my friend who is a BF junkie got all excited as Susan Laney was at the table next to us, I didn't have a clue who she was but my friend was like OMG she's a master and she's on a ton of videos so I introduced myself, told her about you and she was so nice and we took a photo for you, and she told me to tell you "Welcome to the TR1BE" it's terrible of me but I'm beyond caring, she also led Vive 3.1 which I thoroughly enjoyed and BF70.

Haha, geewhiz! Funny enough, the name if the Triathalon is "Give it a Tri". It is run by our local hospital to encourage people new to the event to try it out.

Happy Birthday Badger.
Made 2.75 miles today, but most importantly I managed to up my time and speed on treadmill considerably. Tomorrow,I conquer the first time hiking around my lake since surgery. It's about 2.25 miles but part is very hilly. I have not yet tried any hills post EX.

Back from the Barn Bash which was great fun. I finally got to wear the HAT!!!!

Did a cycle on the way down and another around Portland prior to heading back. Not a lot of miles today, but a LOT more walking than I would normally do when cycling. This is because the most common Portland road sign seems to be "Detour". "Road Closed" was also popular. This was true driving as well.
A fun time and a nice way to explore. Fortunately I parked my car underneath the freeway exchange so was able to find easily when I got back.
I booked "just a room" at the last minute. I would describe the place as the "Most Exotic Marigold MOTEL". The basics and gorgeous roses, but I have stayed in nicer places. But was just fine for one night.
Next outing will be in my tent. - Claire

Happy Birthday, Badger! More miles to you!!
Good luck on the tri, Ginger! Go, Scottie, go on your first round-the-lake!
Love your hat and the deco, Claire. Cheryl, great pic!
Saturday was Zumba, Sunday was a hike in the rain, and today will be BodyJam or BodyCombat or both.

Great hat Claire!
Heidi - a hike in the rain sounds wonderful actually!
Ran 5.4 miles yesterday. I feel better so far today than I usually do after the longish runs in my training plan, so maybe I am getting a little stronger. Woohoo!!

Happy Birthday, Badger!
Excited about your tri, Ginger - can't wait to hear all about it! Patoo - my new community also has water volleyball - you may have inspired me to give it a try!
On the subject of onc advice on exercise: I switched oncs after chemo, and the first thing my new onc said to me was that she wanted me to do three things:
1. Exercise at least 30 minutes a day
2. Take a baby aspirin every day
3. Maintain a normal weight as possible (OK, so I'm not so good on that one!)
A few years ago she added a 4th - take a Vit D supplement.
I liked that she boiled it down to such concise, specific advice.
5k run yesterday. We start our running program tomorrow night, running intervals at the local high school track. It's supposed to be in the 90's and humid as all get out - I'm just going to assign myself to a back-of-the-pack slow pace group and bring plenty of water, and hope I get through it. It's the same 10K training program I did last year, and it was really great. It's a pretty rigorous program - intervals on Tuesday nights, running a specified distance on your own Thursdays, then long slow distance group runs on Saturdays, but it's quite effective at building up running strength and endurance. They have certified coaches for each pace group, and they bring in expert speakers about nutrition, injury prevention, etc.

Hi all! I have some catching up to do! Summer has been busy and is flying by. DH and I traveled to South Dakota (where we are both from) to visit family and attend the Sturgis Bike Rally. What a blast! We traveled with friends. They guys rode their bikes and us girls (and my son and dog) followed in a minivan. We enjoyed some beautiful rides in the Black Hills (will post pics) and we were able to connect with some old school friends that we hadn't seen in years.
My son talked me into joining his gym, Snap Fitness. I really prefer to exercise outside as much as possible, but I am enjoying the benefit of the circuit machines. I just signed up to do the Mt. Everest challenge on the Jacob's Ladder machine.
. You get Snap cash and prizes if you complete 29,045 feet of climing in 30 to 60 days. So far I'm on track to complete it in 30 days but we will see; it is a killer workout! Trying to keep my running up as well as I have an 8k race coming up in September. Did 90 minutes at Snap on Saturday, 60 minutes yesterday, and heading there after work.
Happiest of Birthdays, Badger! Glad to hear everyone is doing well.
Happy Monday!
