So...whats for dinner?

Carole - I LOVE lazy, especially when it's cooler. Are you staying up North longer this year since you don't have to pull the trailer back? Been thinking about your Mom. I know she misses you.
Lacey - I was disappointed on my last trip to Flemings also. Have fun w/the kiddos.
Susan - condo countdown. What did you decide?
Redhead - haha for the kale disguise comment. It would have to be disguised for me to eat it. I usually substitute spinach.
Yesterday we went to the Farmer's Exchange - big permanent structures across town where many trucks come w/produce and restaurants can buy bulk. I hadn't been in years & we just went to the market in the front. Prices were much higher than the grocery but quality wasn't much better. For example - corn on the cob was 3 for $1.25. At Krogers the wonderful Olathe corn is 8 for $2.00. I bought two huge tomatoes at $0.98/lb, but they will have to ripen on the cupboard. Hope the flavor is good, but not expecting much. Cauliflower had rust & mildew spots. Broccoli was limp & old. Watermelon was about the same price but WAY too huge for me to even split w/someone else.
More of my weird meals. Lunch was the last Hatch Chili scone (at least the last one I haven't already frozen) sliced & buttered & lightly toasted. The side dish was the last of some fresh strawberries I should have eaten yesterday. Water aerobics class tonight so I'll probably just have popcorn when i get home after 8pm & get the chlorine showered off. Maybe w/a canteloupe appetizer.

Minus, my mother seems to be doing well this summer. We have a phone conversation most days. She keeps me up to date on what is happening with my siblings.
Tonight's menu was somewhat odd but tasty. A very nice man who has been here at the resort a couple of weeks brought over a freshly cleaned Northern that he had filleted so that there wasn't a single bone. The seasonals here throw the Northerns back into the water because of all the bones but this man and his family like them a lot. The two fillets were quite large so I cut them crossways into strips and breaded them with a light breading that I brought from home and fried them very crisp in my new used iron skillet that I bought at a church garage sale in Thunder Bay. The fish was very good. No "fishiness" whatever. DH made his usual tartar sauce with mayo, dill relish, lemon juice and horseradish.
The side was a Near East brand box Tabboula Salad. I added diced tomatoes, diced cucumber, sliced Kalamata olives, feta cheese, lemon juice and olive oil to the basic bulgar mix.
Tomorrow we are driving to Fargo to meet up with Puffin, a bc.org friend on another thread, and her dh. It's supposed to be a nice day, sunny with highs in the mid 70's.
Lacey, I hope you enjoy the family get-together in NH.

DH returns to Florida tomorrow, so I will resume cooking shortly. Tonight I just had a salad of field greens, baby beets and feta. DD has been away for a few days, so I am just cooking for two - me and the dog! DD is doing a photo shoot for Columbia sportswear - for their site and for display in stores! We have a store about 45 mins away so I am looking forward to going in and seeing her larger than life fly-fishing photo!

SpecialK, hope you can post a picture of DD in the advertisement. What fun!

Carole - I should be able to but I think it may take a bit before it appears in stores. She might get some proof sheets online, I will have to see. She was tarpon fishing yesterday, tomorrow she is wearing dresses for casual shots. She has done some other work for Berkeley rods/reels, Bote paddle boards, some odds and ends. She is very photogenic and she can fish and this has led to some fun and lucrativeopportunities.

Phew! Thank goodness we don't have that many days like this one.
The condo owner, advised by one of the dumbest realtors I have ever met, countered with the most absurd offer EVER. Get this. They want us to pay more to have an appraisal contingency. Seriously? A property that has never sold before and no appraisal? We did one round of counters and then we walked away. Amateur hour. Too bad. We liked the floor plan, but the finishes just didn't match the price point, and the listing agent was a complete dunce. A dunce who lied.
Today was Marie-Sophie's final day in Somerville. I made her a "special" final dinner... grilled chicken thighs and wings, steamed haricot verts, tons of garden tomatoes, and an American classic, macaroni and cheese with Cabots Seriously Sharp cheese, some romano and a dusting of parmesan cheese. For me, this was far too rich, but the kid wouldn't let me reduce the amount of cheese or milk fat. And then, I drove her to Logan for her flight home. I took her as far as security, and then had to leave her. She has promised to email when she is home near Versailles.
One less person to worry about, but we will miss her anyhow.

Susan, that sucks! Sadly, I keep hearing unpleasant buyer stories in this reign of sellers' terror market. Hard as it is, after getting that initial excitement about a place, sometimes walking away just makes the most sense. And of course you know that old platitude, "one door closes and another opens". But, of course, it would be nice not to have to continue the search. Best of luck....
And you describe perfectly the essence of your ambvalence about Marie-Sophie's departure...you loved having her, but you can really use some space in your life right now, with one less responsibility. Job well done! She was a lucky girl to be your guest.

We made it to NH in record slow time...local traffic not great at home, then on the major NH highway there was a sinkhole!!! Never heard of that in these here parts! So we had a lot of time in stopped traffic, then a sinkhole detour that was annoying but treated us to some very pretty scenery in Concord, NH.
As I searched the radio waves to figure out why we had the detour, I heard about a farmer's market in the town of Canterbury, from where a former SW intern of mine came. So I got off and was greated to more small NE town scenery and a cute Farmer's market where I purchased some local garlic, a zucchini salsa, and a vegan ice cream bar for DH. It looked wonderful and DH attested to its tastiness, but given my allergy to cashews, I won't be trying any vegan ice cream.

We decided to buy corn at the local farm stand here, but just missed it being opened, so got some other local variety that looks good, from the supermarket. There we also bought a pre-made, raw Mexican pizza which I cooked while unloading our zillion grocery bags from home. It was unspecial yet filled our tummies along with a salad I made with green and red leaf lettuces, etc.
DS1 and crew were also detoured and they got here (to the house they rented up the street), way after the kids' bedtimes. So they will come over for breakfast tomorrow...oatmeal loaded with dried fruit and nuts for doc vegans, whole grain blueberry pancakes for the kids, and a fruit cup I will make tonight. I will also try to get the corn chowder made tonight for tomorrow night's dinner here. We'll have grilled portobellas, cheeseless pesto white bean gemelli salad, and a big farmer's market salad with all of my weird, lovely greens and accompaniments.
Friday night DS1and DDIL will hopefully go out for dinner and we'll have the grands and DS2 and DGF here for dinner. Most likely chicken since that seems to be what DGF eats. At that point I will be wanting to keep it simple, which he and she will appreciate.

Saturday we all go out for DH's birthday dinner, and I'm hoping that the restaurant can stand the liveliness of the grands. It could be a disaster, but hopefully not. I am not above sharing with the kids my words of wisdom about appropriate restaurant behavior, and hope they adhere to those! ;/
Meanwhile, can't wait to see the little buggers early in the AM. In the last photo I saw of DGD, she was kissing a worm. Oy! She will definitely get into the nature scene here!

susan - I love Cabot's, haven't had it for a long time! Sorry about the condo. We are on the flip side of a condo deal - trying to sell one in the Palm Beach area in a country club as part of our friend's estate. We listed it a year ago and just had the first offer due to a saturated market and mandatory club membership. The offer was for 2/3 of the list price. The list price is the same as our friend paid several years ago, so all we were looking to do was break even and we will still have to pay the broker. The condo has no mortgage so we have time, so DH countered with a number halfway between list price and their offer. They bailed, but the agent contacted DH today to say they are reconsidering. I am hoping they will be sensible. Real estate can be frustrating, right? I hope the perfect thing comes along for you soon

Everyone must be recovering from midweek adventures.
Susan - I completely understand about your house guest. I love to go places but most of all I'm a homebody. I love being at home. I hope some of the "magic" feeling of her presence continues to linger with you minus the franticity if there is such a word of entertaining her. Wishing the broker had been better at his/her job since the place seemed to be what you wanted. We had a house near us just go up for sale for $50,000 over county appraisal. Same real estate agent that cold called here one day, I smartly kept her card. Looking for properties in this "hot market". Couple down the street selling maybe a bit overpriced but not by much. Certainly not "hot" for them. I think the guy is just testing the waters. He has spent countless hours landscaping on the lot.
Meatloaf turned out OK. Made carrots in apple cider reduction, jello salad, and a boxed dessert mix - peanut butter bars. I ended up sitting with the DH last night while his DW went to church choir practice. Easy, I watched TV. Looking for nursing home placement for him, not having much luck in the nearby area (Ft Worth too far).
Lacey - as usual you are a social whirlwind. I bow before your socialness as I did before Special's hostessing.
Last night DH made a salad, I had a PB&J sammie. Tonight I'm making a Campbell's oven meal with a chicken pot pie sauce. Been on the shelf for ages. Temp today is only 79, miraculous for August. Hope Minus is getting some benefit - rain I think for sure there. We got a surprise shower yesterday am and a dribble overnight.
0 -
Luv - thanks for the thoughts. Yes, it was only 79 today. Unfortunately my NW part of town got less than 2" of rain, but anything is better than nothing.
Dinner was a leftover simulation of Laurie's Chicken. Pork medallions, black beans, green chili salsa & cheese. Since everything was already cooked, I only had to warm it in the microwave. Quite good w/flour tortillas on the side.
0 -
The pork dish sounds good, Minus.
I put the new used grill to use as an outdoor oven yesterday afternoon. I butterflied a chicken and sprinkled it top and bottom with a lemon pepper seasoned salt. Positioned it on top of small potatoes, carrots, and onions in a foil pan. There is a temperature gauge on the lid of the grill and it indicated a high enough heat. The chicken skin browned nicely and the chicken was tasty but the veggies didn't get tender. Really odd. I microwaved the potatoes.
Tonight's dinner will feature leftovers.
Today is overcast and the temp. has warmed up. We're supposed to get rain this afternoon.

I grill the meat, and then grill the vegetables while the meat is resting. As soon as I take the meat off the grill, I grill the vegies at as high a temperature a the grill will achieve.... It only takes a few minutes and both Sharon and DD love the slightly toasted taste.
Yesterday was "interesting". I worked from home, took mom to the memory - Alzheimer's disease study place, cooked dinner and then had to put it away uneaten because Sharon had to take her mom to urgent care.
The memory place noticed what I had been noticing...mom's memory and her physical capabilities have greatly declined since last year...sigh...
Yesterday's cooking was another cooking experiment in braising. A pot roast done in a glazed dutch oven in the oven . The liquid was balsamic vinegar and maple syrup in a 2 to 1 ratio (more vinegar than syrup), plus a sauteed onion, some garlic and a "giant heaping tablespoon of Dijon mustard.".
I didn't measure all that carefully, I just poured until the liquid was about 1/2 way up the side of the meat/onions, added the mustard and I put the covered dutch oven in the oven and let it "bake" at 250F degrees until the meat was "medium rare".
I even used the "was used to cook bacon and eggs, but didn't get cleaned" skillet to sear the meat and saute the onion, so it was a very minimal effort meal that turned out well..even when it was reheated...
Luv, and Susan.. I never seem to be at home and my time is scheduled to the fraction of a second..so being at home with no schedule is my perfect vacation...but.......more sigh..... :-)

Carole - your BBQ'd meal sounds great. Not sure why the vegies didn't get done. Maybe needed smaller pieces. Let them sit at room temp and maybe just nuke them a teeny bit b4.
Yesterday turned into an all day marathon in Ft Worth. 1.5 hours at eye doc for a 5 minute appt. I've been with him too long to switch. I know the problem in the office is him, his staff is great and unfortunately I really like him. I just know going in I have to wait. Had some shopping to do. Found a longish pair of denim shorts on sale. My denim capri pants have seen a lot of wear this summer. The shorts are at my knees so almost capri-ish. Had the burgers from the downtown burger joint - picked them up on the way home. Good burgers, fries & onion rings not outstanding. We turned down Mexican food out tonight - DH working today so I didn't really care that the meal ended up $20 prob. less than half of what we would have spent going out.
Minus - I never got to Central Market. I guess the Hatch chiles will have to do without me. Albertsons had some but produce lady said they were very hot. Hmmm- I'm not a hot person. I did bookmark some chile scone recipes. My still DH does not like scones. He will eat biscuits just fine. Maybe something savory with a soup/stew?
I still have to get my new glasses. I knew with an 11:30 appt at doc there was no way that was happening yest. If we get another cool spell I may just take off one day just to do that.
I made the Campbells Cooking Sauce Chicken Pot Pie. It was delicious. Tasted homemade. I will do it again. Probably for my church family meal in a week or 2. It had just the sauce. Added boneless breasts, frozen mixed vegies, some frozen chopped onions and fresh small cut potatoes. We are having the repeat tonight. Made some forgettable canned biscuits, again DH's choice. I could have made biscuit topping but he poo-poohed that idea.
Bedo - I was reading thru a newsletter I get and found this link. Thought you might like it. It's very subtle but the recipe links are at the end of each description. I cannot figure out if the last one with salmon is cooked. Never says. Might like it if it was cooked and then marinated. I really like the Honest Cooking site. I might have sent this b4 esp. since it's from spring. Apologies if I have.

Oh Eric was just posting this when I see your new post. Sounds like both you and Sharon have full plates. Your mom is still in her own home, yes? So sorry about the decline in her cognitive abilities. Hope Sharon's mom has nothing seriously wrong or worsening. Prayers from here.

Eric, my thoughts are with you and Sharon as you care for your mothers.
Maybe I should have added a small amount of liquid to the veggies. Instead I relied on the juice and fat from the chicken providing the liquid.
Hope Lacey is having a wonderful time with her family in NH.

Both moms live at home. Without help, my mom wouldn't be able to do this. The help is mostly provided by her neighbor--a home health nurse that really does live next door to my mom. The nurse is retired, except for this arrangement. It works very well.
In my heart, mom should still be "Superwoman", like she was when I was a small child.
My MIL is OK mentally, but her hips are really bothering her and it obviously hurts to even walk.
She got married the moment she turned 18--to get away from an abusive father. She lucked out an married a great man, but she never lived on her own and never had to do any "handy" things for herself...so Sharon and I do that kind of stuff for her.
It keeps the two of us hopping.
0 -
Eric - hope you MIL is back out of the hospital and OK. Your DD is fortunate to have both of her grands in the area.

This cartoon made me laugh.....I wasn't this bad when I was in college. :-)
He and his wife have dealt with breast cancer, so some of the cartoons are more familiar than anyone here would prefer.

Is everybody eating frozen dinners? LOL. Very quiet around here.
We had a version of a frozen dinner last night. I thawed out a ziplock bag of white beans and brown rice. The beans had been cooked with ham from the freezer. There was one cooked brat left from Saturday night's meal so I sliced the brat and added it to the beans. The side was a delicious salad with romaine, tomato, cucumber, avocado and kalamata olives. Dinner tasted good and took a minimum of preparation.
Today I will take a pkg of frozen tomato sauce out of the freezer and cook some pasta tonight. I'm on a "empty the freezer by the end of Sept." program.
I'm happy to report that the sun is shining today after a weekend of rain and blustery conditions. The wind has literally howled. Thank goodness I have my embroidery project underway. The weekenders departed early yesterday, preferring their homes to holing up in their campers which are, for the most part, smaller than ours.

Roller coaster day with Dad. On the way to the doctor at 4:00 pm he tells me his sister who is 80 and in Florida is coming to spend all of Sept. with him......I said when did you find this out? He says a couple of days ago. I said when is she coming, he says soon as she books her flight..... I said OK, well will you and her think badly of me If I go on vacation while she is here with you? He says no, go ahead.
So we get the doctors office and at theend of the visit, I mention the problems he is having with his hands and doctor thinks it could be carpal tunnel or a pinched nerve, so he tries to discuss surgery and side effects and all my DAD can think of is my hand will work. Dr. says you might need to go to nursing home since you are walker dependent and have other issues and blah blah. And my dad says Ida (his sister who is 80) can take care of him. So now he thinks he will do this in Sept. and He won't even listen to the fact that first they have to schedule a EMG, get results, get that communicated, see a surgeon, get them to agree to do surgery, see PT beforehand and work out all this other stuff and by then, she will have gone home....
And I don't even think she was coming until next year......Plus he claims he told his caregiver she would need to take a "vacation" while his sister is here....
OI'm eating a steak and a potatoe and probably 3/4 a bottle of wine tonight....

Oh Red. Maybe a whole bottle of wine. My Dad kept firing every care giver I hired to help w/my Mother every time I'd head home to Texas from CA. Mother was a vegetable for 12 years and Dad kept her at home w/a feeding tube & was the primary care giver all except the last year or two. I was out there every month (yes I had a wonderful boss at work). Of course, this all started when he was already 82. She died when she was 90 & he was 94.
My salvation was their doctor - who they both loved & who made house calls. He finally told my Dad that if he didn't let the care givers I hired keep working, my Dad could be in legal trouble for "elder abuse" and he (the doc) could lose his license for not alerting authorities to the standard of care. He know my Mom thought this doc hung the moon, so FINALLY I could get a caretaker schedule. But he would never let anyone live in or let them cook in the house.
Dunch was macaroni w/butter. Needed the carbs before water aerobics & no meat defrosted. Dinner will be a salad w/whatever is left in the fridge & maybe a can of shoestring beets & a can or black olives. Or maybe not since I see it's already 9:45. Maybe I'll just have some cheese and then popcorn.

In helping my mom, my grandmother and my grandfather, the common theme has been a fear of not being useful and an absolute terror of being a burden. Red and Minus, I would guess you've noticed that too.
My mom finally allowed the caretaker to do his job.. I don't think she particularly likes the arrangement, but.....it has to be done. She cried and hated me for awhile when I told her the two available choices were a caretaker at home or the nursing home.
I can't say I like the arrangement either...such a capable and proud woman, now needing help with just about everything.
When Mickey's doctor gave us "the talk" and "strongly suggested" (more like insisted) inpatient hospice because I looked at the end of my rope.....I remember my anger, sadness and feelings of failure when it had been decided my care for the most important person in the world....was lacking.....
Dinner tomorrow is cooking tonight. I did a pot roast on Saturday that didn't last even until Sunday, so I did another one using the same recipe....sear the roast, and add the braise liquid of.....1/2 cup of balsamic vinegar, 1/4 cup of maple syrup, a *huge* squeeze of spicy mustard, some salt, "a chopped up fine and sauteed" onion, a couple of cloves of sauteed minced garlic and a couple of cans of beef broth.. I cooked it in a dutch oven placed in a 200F oven. I cooked it until "rare" and...like I said, the first one didn't last long enough for left overs.

Sorry for being among the missing......
Today was spent recovering from our very busy, but mostly wonderful long weekend with the "kids" and grands. I am exhausted from all the meal prep, general chaos here and trying to get my very adorable grands to respond to limits (obviously they rule the roost at home with the caretaking GPs). Actually DGS was fine, but our little strong minded and beguiling DGD is a real challenge. She is so adorable that she gets away with steam rolling her wants over everyone in her house, so it was quite a bit of work to lovingly teach her the ways of the world beyond her home. I know that she must be more respectful of limits at school, but I got to see the "home devil" side. Will post pix later....she is quite the little princess character who loved the tutus I brought her and the Disney princess blanket.
The dinner Sat night for DH's BD was absolutely wonderful....on a hillside deck overlooking our lake, with clear weather, appropriately rested kids, our family plus DS2's DGF, and some good friends from this neighborhood and their son who is friends with DS2. The food was great and our kids ordered a huge chocolate birthday cake that was absolutely the best I have ever eaten. There was a ton of cake leftover, so we brought it to the beach yesterday and everyone raved about it. DH was totally happy with his birthday party! I was happy that there was no child scene, so being well rested, and having their ipads with movies on them for the last hour, (dinner was slow) helped us all enjoy the evening.
I am too tired to go on, but Red, I am sending you hugs as you cope with the viscissitudes of your dad's care/needs. Yes, maybe a whole bottle!
Hope everyone is well.
I must notify Laurie that the thread she started is about to reach page 800! Great milestone.....:)

Eric, our posts crossed.....I am happy for you that with all you are dealing with with your mother, you have not been called up to help deal with all the fires in the West.

Red, You deserve whatever amount of wine you want. Was your father always so impractical or has he developed this trait as he gets older? We are down to one parent only, and, though she is complicated, she is pragmatic and healthy.
Lacey, you win the grandmother-of-the-year award! My goodness. So much for one week. How strongly vegan are these two folks now? Are they pulling their kids towards a vegan diet as well, or, are the young kids still eating animal proteins? Are you staying at the lake for a bit to recover, or does your busy social life require that you head South immediately?
We have been awash in tomatoes. I have made salads, salsas, soups, pasta sauce, sandwiches, and then more salads. There are two colanders filled with the wonderful cherry tomatoes, about 150-200 of the little suckers that I need to start using today. In the past week, we have grilled chicken thighs, flank steak, and swordfish. Vegetables have included grilled and roasted zucchini, zucchini cakes, lovely Fall lettuce salads, cole slaw with local cabbage, sweet potatoes [not local even a little bit], local potatoes both steamed and sautéed, broccoli, and gosh, I can't remember what else. One night, I made a stir fry with pea tendrils, and then we ordered two dishes from our Chinese spot. That fed us for three meals! The amount of food that I am eating keeps going down, except for the Chinese. Why? I have no idea, but I was able to eat plenty of that and put two pounds back on. Oh, and the local plums and peaches are in! Oh, they are so delicious!
My two projects are both at the "manageable" stage, and I can work with purpose which I always prefer. The girl kid has started this year's internship, doing endless amounts of orientation. Her classes will start up next week. The blush of their European trip is fading fast. Our condo, the one we didn't get, still has not sold, so we hold out a bit of hope that the owner will come to his senses, and be willing to negotiate with reality firmly in mind.

Thanks for the support and encouraging words. My dad cared for my mom with a feeding tube for 20 years, and she went blind to boot. Resisted every offer of help, other than her sister, a retired nurse coming for 4 weeks (2 weeks at a time, so he could go fishing every year). She spent her last two weeks in a nursing home and died at the hospital of "health care related pneumonia. He has always been No Way but my Way......I have been seeing him decline and feeling that it is time for me to look for a home that 1) I can get old in and 2) would accommodate his needs as his mobility declines. Tried to talk to thim about that and he told me I didn't need to include him in any plans. So I said, when the choice is live with me or go to a nursing facilitly that is what you want to do---go to a nursing facility???? and he said probably. I don't believe for one minute that would be his decision. He has needled me all my life with criticism, and I have stood up to it thus far....and Eric, I totally get the feeling you described. For my entire career, I was paid big bucks to fix the problems. And aging and all that goes with it is the thing I can't fix....There are so many things I could make better, but he won't let me.
Enough venting. I sugget whenever I post long, you just skip over it.
Now--Last year I bought a small packet of L'Orange flavored coffee at Fresh market. Finally got around to opening it and I love it--but they don't have it anymore. Isn't that the berries.....Maybe it is just something they had at the holidays to put in Christmas baskets or something. I know I fixed up little gift boxes for my friends with them....so I am crossing my fingers it comes back. Guess when it is gone, I will take the wrapper out there and inquire. Couldn't find it on line.

Does anyone know what you do with tomato jam? Susan, years ago I recall seeing a recipe for it to use up cherry tomatos. May have had ginger in it also. I didn't save it cause I didn't know how you would eat it. Somehow it didn't sound like something you would put on toast or a muffin.

Tomato Jam is used on bruschetta, hamburgers or like a side relish. Can be sweet or spicy. Lots of recipes on Google0

Hello all - I have not been cooking much - too many people in my house are moving targets, including me. I did make bean salad, chicken salad, and fusilli with a spicy marinara with roasted onions and peppers over the last couple of days for lunches for DD and DH, and dinner for DH last night. It was his first day back to work (I also sent banana nut muffins with him yesterday morning! - I am not above bribing his staff!) and I went to the Buc's game last night with my former boss. I desperately need to make a grocery store run. My freezer is pretty full but I am out of fresh stuff - that will happen today. Just finished cleaning DD's boat with her - eeesh it is hot outside! My face is red as a beet. Also had three biopsies yesterday afternoon for skin cancer - one is a recurrent spot, so will most likely need a MOHS surgery, I am worried about the one on my shoulder - it looks different from all my previous ones. I will know in about a week, the certified letter will arrive at my door.
I feel for all those having parent health issues - it is so hard. My mom had a degenerative neuromuscular disease (in the Muscular Dystrophy group) for 25 years and my dad cared for her. Then he was diagnosed with stage IV lung CA. I lived in Virginia and they were in California - needless to say, I logged a lot of airline miles. During the year my dad was sick my husband was gone for 10 months on a military assignment and I had two middle-schoolers. I had zero help, not a fun time. After my dad passed my mom needed oxygen and a M-F daytime helper, which eventually progressed to completely bedridden with 24-hr care for the next 3 years at home. Trying to balance what you can do, what needs to be done by professionals, what makes your parent the most comfortable and happy while not making you nuts, is a real challenge.

Red, you have my sympathy and my admiration as you deal with your father. I don't think older people realize how selfish they become in their efforts to remain independent when they're no longer capable of being independent.
Susan, I wish I could help you out with all those lovely tomatoes! The ones sitting on my counter came in a container from Sam's Club in Fargo. We're happy to have them. Hope that condo owner comes around to being reasonable. Also hope your appetite improves.
Lacey, your weekend with kids and grands sounds like it was exactly what you hoped it would be. Was there any discussion of the switch to a vegan diet?
Today is a beautiful sunshiny day with temperatures predicted to climb into the mid 70's. DH and I played golf this morning at the nearby small golf course. It was so good to be outside.
A large ribeye is thawing out and dh will grill it for our meat course tonight. I'll boil some tiny potatoes as a side. We may also have a salad.
0 -
Gosh Eric are you sure DD doesn't have teenage boys living under her bed? Just kidding of course. Roast sounds wonderful. I like balsamic vinegar. DH must have some sour taste buds that go into overdrive and usually objects if he can taste it. Sometimes I can sneak it in. I bought a bottle of Alessi brand white balsamic reduction. Not opened it yet. Last week's trip to Ft Worth was mostly used for not fun stuff - 1.5 hours at eye doc.
Red - so sorry you have so much on your plate with your DF. I see that our DD being an only will be in much the same shape with ultimately caring for the two of us. I have a DB who was wonderful when our mom passed. Not sure what it would have been like had her passing at all been drawn out.
Lacey - sounds like a perfect weekend with your family.
Not much cooking going on here. DH made his pizza yest, last of the frozen crust. Guess tonight will be some of the frozen tri tip from last week and corn on the cob off the cob. I find my teeth just don't do well biting into hard stuff anymore. Special like you I have a totally stuffed freezer but the bread and milk were gone so made the grocery run today.
Welcome Pheasantduster. Have you joined us before?
