Amy A -Welcome! I think many of us have been in your shoes. I have lost track of the number of surgeries I had. No clue really, But exercise is one thing I refused to give up. The day of surgeries, I always took a walk in the evening. My first surgeon told me that he noticed a walk the day of surgery made people heal quicker. It gets things moving. You will feel so much better. Start wherever you are. If its a walk for 2 minutes up the street - that's great! Just get out there and enjoy it.
(OK I just counted...I think it's been 11 surgeries in 6 years for me. I might be off - I had so much recon trouble with rads damage that I frankly can't be positive. lol.)

Nats: Did you think about the deer all day long? I would probably wonder what they were doing at different times of the day. What a neat way to start your day!
Good to see you again Meljo!
Sweet: So glad your uterus is out of you! Have fun letting your family take care of you.
Welcome calidancer and AmyA!
Odie: I know you're enjoying your new AC.
Walked/ran this afternoon. Hot and humid.

Sweet, thanks for checking in and so pleased all went well. Amy, welcome! Mary, your commitment to running no matter what the temp is inspiring. Meljo, I'm super paranoid about lymphedema and I too had 1 node removed. Body Pump is the #1 most popular Les Mills product worldwide. The music and amazing workouts gets most who take one just class -hooked; I'm glad you enjoy it. Body Pump tones your arms and legs, keeps your heart rate up and the music forces you to keep at a fast past with the class. Having said that, I know of three woman at my gym who have stopped body pump over the last 6 months because of over-weight loading onto their shoulders that created problems and their physio/dr told them to stop pump. I don't do pump and do resistance using my body weight, an example being, planking and extending such as bird in a basket pose. My arms and legs are toned but not to the degree that I see in those that pump. Super good gold star on the Jacobs Ladder Mt. Everest challenge!
Freestyle step and body balance this morning.

Sweet thank you for checking in, so good to know everything went well, now enjoy your 'slug' status and let the kids and DH wait on you hand and foot
Odie my exercise schedule has made me tired too, so much so that I have been catching catnaps after work/before gym. Wonderland, Mary and Outrunning I so admire you DC/NC girls who exercise through that humidity it is brutal. Meljo haha it's all those little pulses that get you, you think whaaaa and then the next day it's ughhhh and I'll tell you I don't load the bar for squats, that's for the young uns, I don't use the bar at all I put it down and just use my body weight its one of the options, and I don't know what release you did but the last one had you adding weights between each set of clean and presses, I am a sneaky old lady, I unloaded the bar and started light then added after the second set. Geewhiz what a lovely way to make memories with your DS and if I ran I'd be the snail.... Welcome Amy and Calidancer.
Wednesday night I did Body Combat and last night Body Jam.0 -
Hi all and welcome, Amy. I've only recently started posting here, and I do think the accountability and inspiration are helping me.
A busy work week has kept me from posting, but I've managed a few 1.5 mi walks over the last week. Went to my 1-hour yoga class yesterday (2nd week in a row. I'm getting a routine!) Off now for my walk since we may get rain later. Shooting for 1.5 - 2 miles. Have a great weekend, everyone.

My run had to be short today so I when for difficult. 1.87 miles of hill repeats on really steep hills. I.e. 25 minutes of pain. Hills the day after my trainer pushed me hard might not have been kind to my legs but no pain, no gain right
4 more days and then surgery. Wondering if I can do something morning of ... But then no food or water probably makes that a bad idea. Maybe yoga?

I loved loved LOVED body pump and was a 3x a week faithful attendee. I had to quit for a while due to shoulder bursitis acquired doing an ill-advised adventure race that I was not at all properly conditioned for and unfortunately for me they dropped the class while I was out. I hadn't been that toned and sleek since my high school athlete days.
Day 2 of recovery and doing well. Playing dumb puzzle games and watched a Judi Dench movie called 'Philomena'this afternoon. I would highly recommend it if you haven't seen it.
No workout for me today, obviously, but am full of good intentions when i get clearance!
Xoxoxo to all

Welcome to the newbies! This is a great thread if you're looking for inspiration and fun!
Outrunning - hills! I'm impressed - I hate hate hate hills, so anyone who runs hills gets a gold star in my book! I've done some gentle yoga stretches and yoga breathing the morning of surgery, more of a stress release than anything else. While exercise is generally a great thing, on surgery day your body will need all of its energy to withstand the surgery. You don't want to go into it tired after exercise with muscles screaming for nutrition, especially when you've had to fast.

Welcome calidancer and Amy. Yes the peer pressure works! Keep reading and posting and you'll be inspired.
Sweet I am glad to hear surgery went well and you are pain-med free. Enjoy your time off.
Oldie I am drooling over your pool. It's dang hot here too and a pool sounds fab.
We had half day today so I came home and did my chores-mowed my lawn 40 minutes. Next I walked the dog 15. Then I went for a bike ride for 55 minutes. I explored a way to ride from my neighbothood to a new trail that goes around a lake. It's a little closer than my other trail so it will make a nice addition to my repertoire. It was quite peaceful and a good way to start the long weekend after a stressful week at work.
PS. Cheryl's pizza porn as Badger aptly named it made me hit Lou Malnottis last night. the power of suggestion!

Hello ladies. Happy Friday Night. Thank you all so much for the greetings and well wishes! ☺️
I did exercise today. I went to an hour walk aerobics class that also used bands for resistance training. I'm glad I went and felt good during it but my goodness, I'm tired tonight. I will however keep it up and will hopefully not feel as tired the night of next time.
All the best!
-Amy

Hi all and a big welcome to all the newbies; belated happy birthday badger.
Sweet, when I had my hysterectomy 21 years ago it required a 7-day hospital stay. Now it's same day surgery - WOW! Glad you are doing well and how nice to be able to enjoy being a slug and get waited on. Nice that DS and DD will be home to visit as well.
Kindergarten, have been thinking about your friends and will call them next week. Just in case I can't locate the number please PM to me. Thanks.
Have been having a great time. Each day has been only organized water aerobics or just working out in the pool or riding my bike. The water exercise has been in the morning and bike riding early evening after the daily torrential rains have stopped so getting something in every day. Still need to get more organized with variety, especially adding weights, but there's time. My sister is now in NY, leaving Sunday to tour China/Dubai for a couple weeks and then will move here permanently mid-October so I will be trying out a few things the 6 weeks that she's gone.
Not sure if this will work but you can get an idea of what I have to deal with: The Villages FL calendar of events
Will try and keep enough energy in the evening to come here so I'm not so many pages back.

Managed 3 miles today between doc apps and running around house packing for trip. Tomorrow will likely be a total wash (literally) since I'm spending the day at a water park floating on the lazy river and the wave pool. Will try some side stokes on the river since I need to get back to some swimming.
Welcome calidancer and Amy. This board is helping keep me going. I've had way too much nerve pain especially since EX but my fitbit charge tracks all and makes me want to do more. I have a 19yo sophomore soccer daughter and she says half her team have them. I found a great deal on the Charge HR on Amazon so now dd can have my fitbit (only two months old) and we can compare notes. It'll be cool to see how many steps she gets during her practices.
Also dh and I have exactly one month to train for 10 mile cancer walk eeekk.

AmyA that sounds fascinating. I'm trying to picture how you do all that at the same time.
NatsFan I used to avoid hills and intravals but my trainer convinced me both are a necessary evil for improving my running. And when I have less than 30 minutes to run at least then I feel like I've done something.

TH we have discovered that Lou's delivers, we are planning a Chicago pizza party!!!! Patoo, my gosh there really is something for everyone, lots of early morning classes, I guess you need to work out before the heat, I think I'm going to have to save up and come for a visit. Scottie floating on a lazy river sounds like a perfect day to me, enjoy! Sweet we're going to be the little buzz in your ear when you get cleared to exercise in the meantime enjoy board games and movies, did you know Philomena was based on a true story, it was a wonderful movie. Forgot to tell you my crazy story from last night, I never wear shoes to the gym always my flip flops and then put shoes on when I get there so last night my water bottle opened and all my water spilled in my bag and my socks we drenched with water so I had to dance in wet shoes and no socks, I did pretty good considering....
Tonight did Zumba and then on the way home stopped for Indian food

25,500 steps wandering around Boston yesterday. What a wonderful city! Nats, we went on a batting practice tour of Fenway. Got to go right on the field and up on the Green Monster (wall) where several of our group caught balls hit our way. The game itself was excellent. Great, lively crowd, lots of good hits, fielding and a win for the home team.

Twenty laps in the pool last night, followed by a hot tub soak and steam room. Great way to start the holiday weekend
Amy- I have seen you on a couple of the threads I am on and welcome.
Wishing everybody a good Labor Day weekend! I have more exercise planned the next three days!

The start to the school year has been so busy that I had to read a few pages to catch up!
Ruth, the 90 degree temps in no air conditioning has been brutal. I may have sweat off a couple of pounds. Welcome to the east coast. Enjoy Boston!
Sweet- glad your surgery went well. I found out I had sleep apnea after my surgeries and the CPAP has made all the difference.
Mary- great job on running in that weather!
I have been averaging 10,000 steps as I hobble along with this broken toe. Yesterday, I hit 14,000 since we went to a local agricultural fair after work.
We are spending the next two nights on a friend's boat in Long Island and I am going to try to ride my bike and just see how my toe feels. I hear it is pretty flat so I am hoping it will work out.

I went to school in Boston, and can vouch that a great city. I even lived on Beacon Hill for one year. I hope to get back there soon as one of my friends/business associates is moving to Charlestown in a few weeks. I have been invited.
I need to get back on my bicycle, which means getting my butt out the door. It's cool and sunny today so no excuses. And then to get my shaggy hair trimmed in Seattle. Think a stop at the farmers market as well, but perhaps will hit Pike Place Market instead.
Heading out to Yakima/Naches Heights tomorrow for a ride and a spot of vineyard camping. Was thinking of tubing, but a bit on the chilly side for that...unless prep for the Polar Bear Plunge.
Usual weekday exercise, but did notice that last night's 5k went a lot better than Thursday's. This was after figuring out a screen sharing solution for an upcoming Board meeting with our new website developer. He has an old Mac operating system, so the obvious choice of Skype didn't work, then he located a dud that was at least 10 years old (Lotus sold by a 3rd Party) which also didn't work. I didn't want to load Chrome. I finally located a modern and slick solution from LogMeIn (used for fixing PC issues remotely, but this is their free screen sharing solution) and all is well. He still needs to update, but we will look great in the meeting.
But no oysters or fried clams at the Union Oyster House, Ruth??? Or lobster??? Yes, the fish is lovely, but I will hit the fried clams when I get to Boston. We have amazing oysters here, but different clams. I can't wait to have New England ones. (With all this talk of seafood, I might need to hit the fish bar at Ivar's where they do have great clams.)
Happy exercising everyone. - Claire

Deep water aerobics this morning. Now will find some lunch, do some errands and probably a neighborhood bike ride later. Need to get a bike carrier for my car and break out the map and find out where there are biking trails. Actually could join one of the bicycle clubs here but want to get up to speed (pun intended) first.

I went for my run/walk this AM. 44 minutes around the lake running 5 times within that period. It is getting a little easier this third time but still not fun. The 70 percent humidity did not help. I am depleted and ready for a nap!
Patoo sure looks like a fun place. I bet you'll enjoy it even more this winter when winter does not come!
Ruth's fish looked delish but I'd go for lobster too.
Ginger careful on your toe.it does seem like you could ride a bike though. Just no falling allowed.
Enjoy the weekend ladies.

Two, yes, when winter is here (or shall I say 'there') my grin will be wide and full of teeth! Will have to try and control myself and not gloat and show off to all my friends left back in NJ. Now if I can find a way to get out of what may be Christmas in NJ that will be frosting on the cake but since our last survivor of my mom's generation is there we will probably all go to her for the holiday.

Triple header for me today. Did Grit Cardio then Body Pump express and finished with Body Combat, when I finished I was at 9989 steps, had gone 4.23 miles and burned 1279 calories, the rest of the day was spent lazing on a friends boat it was an absolutely glorious day here in SoCal.0
