Walked 2 miles after work this evening. It was nice and cool - love this chill in the air. Still only managing 18 min/mi, but don't need breaks anymore so I consider that an improvement. Looking forward to yoga class after work tomorrow.
Odie, sorry to hear your doc is keeping you waiting. How frustrating. Hope you will have answers tomorrow.

Oh Kiki I am so looking forward to a 'chill in the air' it is so hot here, it poured rain this afternoon and we had a really crazy wind storm and when it was over it was hotter, it's 9.30pm and pretty much unbearable, I'm sitting with an ice pack cause the fan is just moving hot air around, bleah......

hbcheryl. . .spent the summer after college living with friends in HB. I grew up on the GulfCoast so the Pacific Ocean was quite a shock for me. It could be 110 degrees on the beach but the water was still freezing. Been a HotLanta gal for many years now. Looking forward to fall.

Three mile run this morning. It was already 75 degrees and humid at 5:30am.
We're supposed to have rain then cooler temps later. C'mon RAIN!!! Odie - no excuse to keep you waiting this long. Why not call the office and ask about the results? I think you've been more than patient. Patoo - sounds like you're having fun in your new community!

I don't miss the East Coast heat at all. A lovely 55F here right now. Yesterday, I got to wear one of my early fall outfits and felt great. Classic black silk blouse I got for a song on eBay.
Promise pix from last weekend's whirlwind adventure, but will be later. I am going to be super busy for at least the next 3 months as just won the second research project. I am beyond excited. Client complimented me on my work, saying "fantastic job" and that I am "easy to work with". Of course, I had better finalize that tab plan or he won't be saying that!!!
I think one of the secrets to staying fit is to schedule exercise first. I also do exercise followed by refreshments which can be pastry or a trip to a pub. I may do one of these over the weekend. So fun, not to mention that you are likely to be hungry if cycling 60 miles.
Thank you Ruth for your Boston adventure. I must schedule 3 days there when I get to the East Coast. It's been so long. I also want to cycle from Boston out to Concord as I believe there is a trail that goes the distance now. I remember back in the day when I thought cycling from Cambridge to Watertown Square was a big deal. Now I laugh.

OMG, it is hotter than hell here Cheryl! Mary, I tell Warren to make me look young and beautiful and look mostly blonde stripped, sigh. Cheryl, I'll call and thanks for the tip (rained on takeoff at LAX to SD yesterday evening) and sorry I bought before I left the black cardi to throw over my shoulders if chilled. Good to read everyone at it and hopefully today, I'll teach sis body balance/flow as I brought along #68.

We got home with no glitches. Gosh, what a wonderful trip! I think I could get a job with the Boston Tourism Bureau because I have only great things to say about the people, food, and sites of Boston. I'd post some pictures but I don't even know where I'd start. Name a site you'd like to see a picture of, and I will probably have it.
Went to Cardio Sculpt this morning and will do Zumba tonight. We walked 100,000 steps (50 miles) in seven days and I still gained three pounds!!!!!!!!

I found the old post I wrote on LE, maybe it will be helpful to people just starting out:
"I had 11 lymph nodes removed, so this (LE) has always been an area of real concern and mindfulness for me. When I had my surgery, there was no one around here to go to for advice, so I did a lot of studying on my own. Here are some thoughts & tips I came up with.
First, I think that whether or not you are prone to LE has mostly to do with how your lymph system handles trauma. I would say most cases (unless you are in a horrible accident or are doing really extreme activities) are neither through any virtue or fault of your own; just a matter of good or bad 'luck'.
That being said, there are many 'little' things that we can do that may reduce the risk of developing LE or minimize flares (these are for people with SNB too):
- No BP, IVs, needles, shots etc. in that arm....consider getting a medical ID bracelet (to wear when traveling anyway). There are some really pretty ones out there that look like jewelry (I have a good website if you want it)
- Wear gloves when doing yard work, gardening etc.
- Wear sunscreen when out in the sun, bug spray when out with the bugs
- If you get a cut, scrap, bite...wash it with soap/water and slap on a bandage. If you see any sign of infection, get to the Dr. & on antibiotics ASAP
- Be sure to switch arms when carrying your purse, hauling around anything heavy, dragging luggage etc.
- Be careful about saunas, I avoid them, and also manicures and massages (on that quadrant of my body anyway).....not everyone does, but that's just me
- Keep a healthy weight
- Keep hydrated, limit alcohol
- Don't wear tight rings, watches, bracelets on that arm (when flying, I put my rings on my other hand & leave them on that side fro a couple hours after I land)
- Also, be sure to keep well hydrated when flying, move your arm around a lot, make fists etc. get up & walk around the cabin (which won't be a problem if you are well-hydrated because you will have to go to the bathroom!), if someone wants to help you hoist your carry on & off the overhead, let them.....maybe think of checking a heavy bag....
- When exercising that arm; start very slowly, take your time...build up weights very slowly...don't skip levels...don't do too many reps in one session. Mix up your exercises, don't work the same muscle groups every day. You may want to work with an experienced trainer (or PT) to help you construct a balanced program.
- One thing I do want to add; after my surgery I was scared to start doing upper body. Neither my surgeon nor my oncologist could give me any good solid advice, so I talked to my GP. What he said was that I DID want to exercise my upper body, that it was important to do so as it would actually build up the lymph system, and although, of course, I should be careful and notice if my arm felt heavy/swollen etc. that I shouldn't be afraid to have it feel a little 'normal' soreness...because anytime you exercise a part of your body that you haven't been using for awhile, of course, it will feel sore. That made sense to me, and gave me 'permission' to get moving.

One other thing I will add about flying (Nats, correct me if I'm wrong) is that if you do decide to wear a sleeve when flying, I believe you also MUST wear a gauntlet or you will for sure be doing more harm than good.

9/10- I had to back off for a few days on exercise with some back issues, but back to the gym today for a solid 80 minutes of resistance training that included a good 30 min work out with the kettle bell! Getting back on track.

East coasters we finally got relief from the heat yesterday in the Midwest. it's coming your way. Truth is I kind of miss it already because it means summer is waning AND the weather change gave me a massive headache. It was so bad I had to have ice cream. 🍦
25 minute walk tonight with my dog and 30 with my husband yesterday.

Was positively exhausted after work today but still went to my yoga class. So glad I did - great way to eliminate the work day stress.
Cheryl, Nats, LilacBlue, wow - the heat wave sounds pretty miserable on both coasts! I grew up in it, but am not much of a heat and humidity gal anymore. I live in the southern Rockies and love the climate. Mornings and evenings are nice and cool now. Even noticed a few aspens turning on my drive home from work. Wishing you cooler temps soon!
Ruth, glad you had such a great trip and thanks for your LE re-post. I have also done a lot of my own research because I cannot believe how little I was actually told about LE risks (and my medical team is great in many other respects). I too was very nervous about starting to exercise my upper body, and so I did some PT sessions to get myself started. The therapist sent me off with a set of good, progressive exercises to do on my own...I hit a slump and stopped for awhile, but am breaking out the resistance bands and getting started again.

Ruthbru - I read somewhere that sleeves alone could be dangerous -you need the hand compression too to keep the fluid moving out of the hand, so if that is what a gauntlet does...then that's probably correct. I have always had my eye out for lymphedema since I had a total level 1 and level 2 clearance and a NASTY cording flareup after my mx...but it seem ok so far!
Kiki - good for you for going to yoga. I love yoga, it is SO good for you.

Cheryl, thanks for being there for me, what a sweetie!Heading to Newport Beach and and to my permanently mahogany tan sisters embarrassment, I'm going to get a spray tan this afternoon so my pasty legs look a bit less marshmallowie as I'm wearing a dress all of tomorrow. Sister thought body balance/flow was ok to meh - not her cup of tea. My darling brother is so thrilled that I came over for his daughter's wedding. When I open my eye wateringly high credit card bill next month, I know in my heart it's all been worth it.

Yoga this morning. It felt very good to get out the travel kinks.
Lilac, I get a spray tan too when going to beachy places. My theory is that brown varicose veins look better than white ones! My dad always said that a person should go to as many happy family events as they can, otherwise you will just end up going to funerals. Pretty true. Have a great time!

Fitbit gals. . .who can solve this puzzle for me? This is the same route dh and I walk everytime. I'm pretty sure it's right about 2.2 miles or 4,500 steps. The tracking, however, is so laughable, that I don't always use it.
4.6 miles total today. Tomorrow will be walking around the Zoo for a couple of hours and then photographing 19yo's college soccer game.

Thanks for the words of encouragement as I wait for my ultrasound results. I had figured that I would give my doc until Friday since it was done over the holiday weekend. Glad to know I was not being overly expectant. Today the report was uploaded into my online chart absent finding pending physician approval and I saw the doctor's office called this morning. No message so I called them at lunch and left a message for a callback with the results. Still waiting....ugh!
Went to bootcamp last night to work off the frustration and worked out really hard. Took today off to rest.

Tonight my Zumba instructor asked how I liked my Fitbit HR, I told him I liked the One better (I don't like wearing a watch or any kind of jewelry when I work) but I really wanted the HR tracking to see how optimally I was working, he opened his backpack and gifted me with a Polar HR monitor, then he took my cellphone and set it up for me, how nice was that. One of my friends has a Garmin and I have to say I really like the way it does the tracking kind of wish I'd have bought one of those. Oh Odie how frustrating. LB don't forget to always tell people it takes 4 to 5 times before deciding if you like a class 😀7 years ago today I had my mastectomy so it has been a day of reflection for me and one of the things I am extremely grateful for is BCO and all of the wonderful women I have met through this site.
Tonight an hour of very sweaty Zumba, thank goodness I think the heat is subsiding still hot but not quite as unbearable and hopefully I can sleep tonight only got about 3 hours last night I just couldn't get comfortable.

My workout for the day will be cleaning up for new window install Friday. Weird remodel before our time means windows in our walkin closet plus storage at foot of attic stairs.
Plus two messy desks in office under the window. And a pile in DDs room in front of the window.
I have help coming but trick will be getting done what needs doing without over doing it 3 days after LX.
Hoping for a walk later but it is rainy.

Cheryl, that is a point of reflection..seven years..good for you...I can't even remember the date I had my mastectomy, but it has been about 14 years. The good thing as you said we were able to meet and laugh with each other. Thanks for making the trip down to San Diego, when you can. You have the ability to sparkle any group...hugs

Cheryl 7 years is good. I like how you say it's a day of reflection. I don't think I'll ever "celebrate" anything cancer related, but I may "reflect" at some milestones I am also grateful for Bco in general and for this group that keeps me healthy.
Beautiful gorgeous day today. Sunny, big puffy clouds. No haze and humidity and about 65. Mowed the lawn 40 minutes. Walked the dog 15 and did my run/walk today for 35 minutes running five times within.
Oh and yesterday I did a yoga YouTube video.
Patoo No more mentioning bad foods to lead you down a bad path. Today I am sitting here eating broccoli salad.Really!
