mysunshine48, no other meds as had no prior problems. Yes, walking is good but the walking class is fast paced with bouncing, kicking, etc. so it's more than a leisurely walk in the park. Leslie Sansone gives an excellent workout. You'll see when I drag you to a class!

Love it Ruth. Wonderland I agree, the one great thing that has come out of all of this is our wonderful friendships and I am reading that latest Jan Karon and as its set in NC when I pick it up I think of you

Back from Zumba and now trying to think of something to wear tomorrow as I'm going to a Zumba/U Jam dress up dance party in the morning and I don't have a clue what to wear.

My youngest son is the Waterpolo coach at the high school where he teaches. I watched the game today. Wish I had that energy.

Went to bed at 6 pm last night so only exercise was sleep. Made up for it today with walking and gym. Almost 7 miles.

Yikes Scottie can he breathe in that mask, and I love the nice big candybag, my kinda guy!!! Went to Zumba as a 'bag lady' and danced for 90 minutes, my 10,000 step buzzer went off in the class so I am set to go to eat tonight, heading out to a friends for a get together, I'm taking a salad but I know what everyone else is bringing and I'm excited for the 'tater tot casserole' I've never had one before but it sounds so good

Tater Tot Hotdish is one of my favorites! I can't make it unless I'm bringing it somewhere because I will eat the whole casserole myself. I have to see what days it's on the lunch menu at school & try to sub those days so I get some!!!

I did a run yesterday, and then went into Seattle. Nordstrom wasn't busy so I got a makeover and a hand massage. Just lovely pampering. Then on to the wine bar, but didn't stay for the Halloween celebration. Learned that my friend Pam is much better now. Was really worried when I saw her there about 2 weeks ago.
Learned something odd too from the hand massage (which I recommend). My hands are really muscled! We think about working other areas of the body, but not our hands. But the cycling and weights must affect my hands as well. Who knew???
Hoping for a ride today now that a break in the rain and the wind has died down. Only got a bit wet yesterday when I did my run. Fitting Halloween weather, to be sure. We may actually get some snow in the mountains. Hoping for great skiing this year after almost none last year. I will be showing off my new (first matchy-matchy ever) cycling gear as I head out today.

Pilates, walked, a little yard work, going to a Jazz Concert tonight, and the Vikings just beat the Bears......life is good!
My 26 year old DS is in the process of buying his first house. Yesterday I got to spend many fun hours with him looking at furniture, measuring things, discussing paint samples etc. etc. He was a junior in high school when I was first diagnosed and I think only you all can truly understand when I say how completely and profoundly grateful I am to be around for these kinds of things!

Today I went to our annual shrimp cook off. Of course, I ate shrimp cooked in a variety of ways. It is one of the things we look forward to every year. My daughter and I went shopping for a coat afterwards. It is far from cold here in South Texas. We will be ready when it does cool down.
Last night we had our friends over and took the kids trick or treating. Well my daughter and her friends, as my son is now 14 and over getting dressed up.
I have not exercised this weekend, but I have had my share of junk food. Tomorrow it will be back to my healthy eating. The tatertot casserole does sound good.

52 minute walk around the lake this afternoon. Another beautiful day after rain all day yesterday.
Ruth, my son was in 8th grade, so I can relate to those milestones and how sweet it is to share as a healthy mom now. I've always worried about getting my son to adulthood. You have succeeded!
Claire, a makeover and a hand massage sounds like such a treat. And Annie, shrimp cook-off. Yum. Now that's worth overeating!
My favorite halloween sighting: I have a big bay window so I see a tiny boy around 2 running up to the door in his Captain America costume. Right behind him comes his sister, who is just a little older, and she had on her Captain America costume too, blond hair flying. I just loved that she was going to be the superhero too. Who wants to be a princess or Elsa when you can be Captain America. They were so cute together.

I'm hoping this gets me back on the workout "horse." Last July I got a case that kept me working 100 hour weeks for at least 6 months. I went from 6 workouts an hour plus a week to nothing, to riding my bike to work. Results = 40ish lb weight gain (lost nearly 20 riding my bike, but then winter hit). I keep obsessing over whether my stress level and complete lifestyle change contributed to my diagnosis this year. Maybe it was that, plus the deaths of my mother, grandfather, favorite great aunt, 2 close friends, plus the end of a 10 year relationship.
Anyway, I've moved (more stress!) - and have no workout routine whatsoever. I think this is the longest time I've gone since maybe I was 30 to 33 that I went with no workout routine. Just receiving this diagnosis might not be the best time to start, but I kicked ass all the way through the brain aneurysms, soooooo.....
Today I finally found and unpacked the computer that has *all* off my workout dvds stored on it. I'm trying to decide what to start with - any recommendations from anyone who's walked this path?
One issue now is that many weeks I'm out of town, but now my situation will have changed a little and I'll be able to work out out of town. I walk dogs 2x a day about 15 minutes each, but that's not losing fat, building muscle. BF is a former bodybuilder, so I have complete support. I don't want to join a gym because frankly, I'm so OCD that it winds up being a 4 hour all consuming time sink. Being able to watch a video and follow a program that way at home worked far better.
Two weeks until surgery. I can get something going before then and not wait until after, right?

Welcome, Frill. Yes, get something going now! What workout DVDs do you have? (I have tons of them too so could make some suggestions depending what you have.) A gym might be okay if you took a class instead of doing your own workout (as there is a beginning & end time). If you would tell us a little bit about your diagnosis and treatment plan (like what kind of surgery will you be having), then maybe we could give you some better, more specific exercise advice.

Frill...the only exercise I enjoy is walking, walking outside....I don't do gyms and hate to buy equipment as I don't trust myself to use it.....I have DVD;s that I was given but never use them....walking keeps me from gaining weight but I don't loose....maybe if I wouldn't shove junk in my face at night I would be good.

Sweet-I have sleep apnea and getting a CPAP machine was the best thing I ever did. What a difference!
Today, I ran 3.2 miles. I have a 5k in a week so I needed to see if I could still do it. I had only run one time in oct since my broken toe episode in August and then I caught a cold that triggered my asthma. I am so happy I was able to do it. My MIL is in the hospital for a brain bleed and I needed to burn off some of that stress.

Welcome Frill, I am a class junkie and I am in awe of all of you who workout to DVDs, the newest trend is 'On Demand' and you can find every kind of workout on your tv or try Beachbody they have a terrific range my advice is to just start, eventually we find what works for us. Good luck with your surgery.
Claire the guy who I take Zumba from does all kinds of other things in his class he has us doing squats and planks we stand on tippy toes, we stand on one foot and he always has us stretch our hands. TH how great yes girls can be anything even Captain America, my funny story is that the friend I went to had to have the light on as she had people over but she put a sign on the door 'sorry no candy with a sad face emoji' as she had forgotten to pick some up and we would hear the kids come to the door then you'd hear then go awwwww no candy and stomp away
The tater tot casserole was delicious but the chocolate cream pie was even better

Wonderland and Ruth, I believe you've been plotting to be in-laws for years now, pity you didn't get the kids involved before they found others and I can't believe Ruth's son let the girl who worked in the bakery go, she was my kind of girl

I ran 4 miles on my treadmill on Saturday and got sucked in watching an infomercial for Beachbody's Shaun T's Cize dance workout. Had to order it when I was done. Ended up subscribing to the streaming service, too. Did it yesterday morning and then followed it with Shaun T's T-25 workout. That was definitely more challenging but the Cize workout was really fun. I have no dance skills whatsoever and am hoping to pick up some rhythm if I keep with it.
Off to Orange Theory now. I did it twice last week and the second time took me 3 days to recover.....we did 260 squats and lunges for 10 minutes straight. Ouch!

Frill - welcome! I spent those last few weeks before my first surgery doing tons of exercise - it was the best way to keep stress away. I would suggest that you concentrate on legs and core - depending on what kind of surgery you're having, you'll have very limited use of your arms, and getting in and out of chairs and bed can be a struggle. Having a strong core and legs will help a lot with that. Another simple trick - start practicing now by getting up from a chair or bed not using your arms - just your legs and core. You'll figure out pretty quickly what you need to strengthen!

I ran the 10K race this Sunday that was the goal race for that running training program I've been doing since August. It's a very hilly course, so it's quite a test! I was a bit disappointed because my time was 3 minutes slower than last year's race, but as I thought back on it, there's not a single place in the race where I could have done anything differently. I gave it the best that I had in me that particular day, so I have to take that as my victory.
It feels good to be able to run a 10K again! After all the life drama last spring, my running had gone down the tubes. Some of you may remember that back in April when we were living at the hotel after the flood, I started back into it with a Couch to 5K app, then once I could run a 5K again, I signed up for the 10K training program. I knew the program would be grueling, but I I also knew it would kick my butt when I needed it. And it worked! Now that the clinic has gotten me back into running shape, I'll be glad to dial the running back a little and have the energy to do a more balanced workout. Because the program was so intense, my exercise became very run-centric, and I slacked off on doing other things like weights and flexibility. Now I want to get back to doing those again. I got started this morning with some stretches and foam roller work.
Here's a picture of my pace group at our end-of-training banquet last night. I'm on the far right behind the woman in red. We're pretty confirmed Back of the Packers - none of us will ever win any prizes for speed - but I think that just makes us more determined to just keep going!
