Went to bed, slept well. Didn't have the Scotch, I can't drink anything. Throat swells shut.

Mags, why would I beat Kris pink and purple? I hope you thought you were funny. I don't beat my dogs.

Chevy, I wish 72. More like 90 today. Glad your friend is much better.

    YAY Chevy Great news :)

Anyone having internet connection problems. I've been on twice with my cable provider and once with my tech buddies since 4 am. Keep losing connection?

Spookie, knew you wouldn't have the scotch, but you just even saying meant to me you were way stressed out.

spooks, I have been meaning to ask you how your pump for arm is doing. I think it's you who has it.

I leave tomorrow morning to go back home. Hubby really misses me when I'm gone. So sweet.

Hi Rosie, hope you are feeling better today

Mammaray, how are you doing? In my prayers always:)

Spookie, pink and purple is different from black and blue. Think wet noodle. It comes from a story my cousin tells of when her granddaughter was little and used to scold her dolls, telling them she was going to beat them pink and purple. Her mom may have threatened her with it, though she never did, and DGD has grown up awesomely with wonderful kids almost grown too. I would never take a hand to my kiddos. Though Rose is truly a manipulative bitch– I can say that, because it's true!

Chevy, so delighted you have your buddy back! Cupcakes, and lots of them!

Meeting Beatmon for lunch, I hope!

    ok Mags.

Susan, I used it every night for a month, didn't notice but a tiny difference. Could be because it was, is, sooooo hot humid here still. Glad I didn't pay for it. And my PCP is trying to find a diuretic I can tolerate. This last one encourages estrogen production!! No WAY am I doing that one!!

Spookie, may I ask what diuretic that is? I'm suppose to be on one but I started having severe muscle cramps in legs and feet.

Chevy- that is good news you had a good conversation with Theresa. You were scared there for a bit. I am glad she is doing okay and able to share more on what is going on.

It is cold and snowing in the mountains here. Winter is moving into the west.

Drove to get diagnostic tests. Brain needs f/u on demyelinating disease. NO tumors. US of liver, no tumors, just fat.

    Sas, Yay, no rumors.

Chevy, so glad to hear Theresa is doing better.

Good grief Spookie. I hope you had a good stiff adult beverage or alternately some Xanax after that. (Oh I see no double scotch. sorry) I agree that the vet is a keeper for doing that. I kinda wish I had chipped this dog, she is wily and fast and really does not respond to food cues much. I still have all the equipment to do goats including the reader but it is not Home Again chips but livestock AVID chips. If she was a big dog I'd probably risk doing it myself. The 1st goat I had done vet did in the shoulder. Awful nasty looking 16 gauge needle.

BUT so glad Kris is home safe and sound - considering his adventures.

Battening down the hatches. Mags you going to get this nasty weather? Talking maybe a few more tornadoes that they were forecasting yesterday. I just put my weather radio on. Sun is out and heating up quickly. Not a clue what the shelter looks like. Nobody's been down there since spring. Oh since I started this now under tornado watch until 8pm. And yup Mags/Beatmon in it too.

Rosie - I'm with Sassy. I thought color change was bilirubin too unless the volume was down - which I don't think you've had decreased volume at any time. How closely does the last lab draw correlate to the dark ascites fluid? I too thought the change in alk phos might be from the rads "damage" quotes because this damage is good damage. And yes very good for Wiki - same lab or diff lab? So - what does the PCP have to say about it? How does any changes correlate to how you feel? I'm thinking maybe a 3rd test in a couple of weeks - early or midweek early morning so specimen doesn't sit very long. I'm keeping fingers crossed just a flukey test.

CHEVSTER - caps for a reason. YAY for Theresa being back to herself. Miracles of miracles. My best bet is the UTI. I've seen it happen I can't tell you how many times. Like I said on hospice we mostly didn't even test. Family would say pt behavior has changed (usually more combative) and we'd medicate for UTI. You're having winter and I'm having spring. So not fair. AC has been turned off for a couple of weeks. I just flipped it back on, may not come on but it might later.

Sassy - Any chance your post polio has an influence on MRI? Never thought I'd say Yay for fat, but here goes - YAY for fat.

Thanks Zills for the Barry's tea suggestion. I know I've seen it somewhere (other than Amazon that is). Maybe Cost Plus World Market?

Smaarty - The quilt is going to be lovely I adore black and white things. Except for dog hair I would have a black/white house. My wardrobe is mostly black/white as it is.

So not good. TVN storm chasers converging on S OK and N Texas.

Kath, I was on Lasix and potassium. Then another that starts with T and potassium. That class needs to be taken with potassium. The latest stuff is spironolactone. I did a quick check on it, specifically mentioned estrogen and breast cancer. PCP is checking out the studies, and contacting my bs. Not gonna take it yet.

Are you on cholesterol meds? They are notorious for leg cramps. Try a hand full of almonds daily. They are high in magnesium, which can help the cramps.

Yay for no tumor in Sass and for Chevy's Theresa. Love the black and white quilt top. To all those in pain and sadness, I am sorry and said a quick prayer for you. Goats, my hatches are tightened. Getting ready to ride out a stormy night and cold front! Be safe too!

Spookie, I was on hydrochlorothizide for years. Feet and legs started cramping so bad that toes would curl and muscles became firm/hard and so sore afterwards. PCP switched me to generic lasix to be taken twice a week so the cramping would stop. Well that didn't work so I just decided not to take anything. Thanks for the tip about the almonds. Maybe I'll try the lasix again. A little gun shy about it. Was on generic Lipitor but went off that because of progressing memory problems. Thankfully that has cleared up. PCP does not like me advocating for myself. Long story on that

I can't see Mag smacking her babies.

Excellent news Ms. CHEVY!!! I am reminded not to take for granted the special people who God gives me.

Ms. Sas, no, not pulling your legs this time. Cashew trees can be found in the tropics. Few neighbors in VN had them

Oh not good,........ LMG, Mema, Loverly, Smarrty, Beatmom, Mags, and Jazzy............All with storms acomin........prayin here. That little nino

Rosie and LMG--called the lab--needs to be spun down within 1-2 hours, then kept refrigerated, good for a week. Quest is a reputable lab. Rosie, your liver was better. The color of the ascites was better. maybe Herceptin is helping.

If you said the volume was down, along with the LFT's, and color improved -----I'd say happy liver.

But you said in a past post that the ascites in your scenario was not from the liver. I accepted that. But maybe a portion is coming from your liver?

But no thought on why the ascites increased :(

Kath, did you take potassium too? Apparently this stuff can deplete you with the diuretic. The nurses can say more.

  • kathindc
    kathindc Posts: 1,667

No PCP never gave me potassium even after my complaint. Just a change in prescription. I have become so disillusioned with him that asking about potassium slipped my mind. I should have known better.

Well crab(my way of saying chit ,for crap)!!!! Demyelination is not good. Hoping it's just post polio "scar". Isn't demyelination progressive dz ?? Fatty liver??? Lay off the Vodka. I have fatty liver too, the nonalcoholic one. Not sure how I acquired it.

Generally, Lasix is the only one specifically where Potassium is trouble. Drug of choice for those with CHF. Torseamide can deplete potassium , but does it far less than Lasix.

Spiralactone(Aldactone) is a potassium sparing diuretic. It's used usually in end stage renal disease when multiple diuretics are used. In Spookie's case she doesn't __________to Lasix and torsemide, so the doc is jumping to aldactone. But she doesn't want that one b/c of BC and estrogen concerns(didn't know it did that). Bumex is still in the bag of tricks.

    Spookie, check out Bumex

Spironolactone is an oddball treatment for hirsutism - layman's terms hairy faced women. Decreases testosterone.

Sassy - I would think that was good of the lab. I think there are only a certain # of tests that must be run in a time limit. Chemistries probably one of the more stable.

I think I've only encountered Bumex one or two times.

Kathy and Spookie, you're going to just love this AARP article. I did. It covered all the drug classes that can cause leg cramps. Then it gave all the drugs that fit in that particular class. Very useful. If I were working, I'd keep this as a handout.

Me and Beatmon at my (and now her) favorite Mexican restaurant. Maria took our picture, and also owns the place and makes the best flan. It's about halfway between our houses so it looks like we'll be lunching together frequently there! We filled up, and she took meals home for tonight. I hope she enjoys those spinach and mushroom quesadillas as much as I did! When Maria takes a picture she says "Say queso!"

Lilgoats, the AARP article brought to mind some drugs I'd forgot about too. Like Zaroxlyn. Specific reason that was used when it was used, but I forget. Didn't know that about aldactone Sheesh. Better call my brother. He insisted on it b/c of my dad. Wouldn't listen that dad's ESRD was from noncompliance with antihypertesives and that ESRD was secondary.

Goats, Did have a memory jar. When I was taking care of My MARY(mom's first cousin). She had mild CHF. Her particular problem was lower extremity edema. Lasix was a problem, I forget why. I asked her pharmacist to recommend a diuretic. She recommended Bumex. Mary did fine with it. She did so well with it in her late 80's into her 90's, I wondered why it wasn't used more. Dunno why? Maybe Loverly knows?
