sorry imjust checking in quickly. Stupid kidney stones. Missed my neices graduation. Her siblings from out of state were there to. I really wanted to go.not this time.
Wanted to wish Erics daughter a Happy Graduation too..
Ill read when i can concentrate. Not tonight. The antinausea pills make me sleepy.
Much love to all. May you all be doing much better than me right now. LOL

Oh Monica, that just sucks! Hope it passes soon.

Oh Moon.... kidney stones are the worst! Hope they pass quickly and you are back to your old self.
Dinner tonight was the leftover Indian. Today I made mini Cinnamon Swirl breads. New recipe that was really odd. The dough was more batter-like than dough like which made for interesting rolling. We had one and a half for our "brunch" with some scrambled eggs. While Mr. 02143 was at the Red Sox game with my daughter, son-in-law and Olivia, I made Sesame Noodles, a NYCity thing. They are wildly easy to make. Some soy sauce, noodles, scallions, peanut butter, chicken stock, and sesame oil. You then dress them to your liking. I roasted some chicken thighs to shred into the noodles, toasted sesame seeds, scallions, and chopped roasted peanuts. Sent this home with the kids for their lunches tomorrow, but I just learned that they had this for their dinner! There is enough in our fridge for my lunch. Mr. 02143 doesn't love these noodles, so I will make him an alternate lunch tomorrow. Clearly, my New Mother Catering company is still needed!
I am watching Olivia tomorrow since her mother has to attend a four hour class. She will start at my house. If she is having a good day we will go to the farm to get vegetables and some farm-fresh eggs. Either way, I will take her back to Arlington for her mother's return.

She was not impressed by the Red Sox today. An odd game that didn't produce a win.

I think I forgot to say what muskrat tastes like... It tastes like a very expensive melt in your mouth steak. It's concidered a delicacy.
For dinner tonight I had a bacon and cheese quesadillas. Yummy

What a varied bunch of adorable Olivias!! Lori, your little one is quite beguiling!
Moon, I, too, hope those stones pass, and you are relieved of pain.
Eric, sounds like a sweet breakfast
Leftover grilled chicken tonight with some baba ganoush, pita, and a salad with the lettuce, etc.,I got from Farmers' Market. I do love my new favorite horseradish vinaigrette, which is fast becoming our daily salad dressing.
Tomorrow I'll marinate more chicken...probably in a Greek style marinade.

Such cute grandkids/grandpooches! I have only grandkitties.
Last night we went out to dinner at Smack Shack, a Maine-themed seafood (lobster-centric) restaurant that originally started in Minneapolis. (The "smack" in the name refers to a commercial fishing vessel with a separate refrigerated "well" to hold the catch). We shared a wedge salad, collard greens; and a seafood tower that included 18 oysters (3ea. of 3 different eastern and 3 different Pacific varieties), a dozen mussels, 6 jumbo shrimp, ceviche, a 1-1/2 lb. Maine lobster and 2 Alaska king crab legs--washed down with a flute of Poema Brut cava. (All I could do to keep it to one flute--and seeing as how it was at least 7 oz., I'm teetotaling till at least Wed. night if not longer).

All the Olivias are (if I may use the word) cute. :-) I smiled at the "ear muffs". I don't like loud stuff, so I keep a set of ear plugs in my pants pocket and use them often. Sporting events are just below target shooting for times I wear the ear plugs.
The waffles were good. As usual, the first waffle wasn't worth saving--I use that one to gauge how hot I have the waffle iron. So, I save that for after us humans are finished eating. Dog 1 gets the waffle, dog 2 gets the almost empty bowl of batter and the cat gets the 1/2 cup batter scoop.
I also made sourdough bread. The starter of mine is fairly sour and just as fast as commercial yeast.
Off to the store. Sharon has asked I get bell peppers, and mushrooms....

adorable olivias! Today at the grocery store I got in the. Checkout line with a very nice familiar woman cashier. She says"did you find everything you were looking for?" I say yes. I came in for bananas and cereal and spent 50$ on various other things. Her response "thanks for playing along" made me chuckle
Tonight chicken salad sandwiches and corn on the cob.

Today was an Olivia Day. She arrived at 9am sound asleep. She woke at 10:30 with a few screams. HUNGRY. Feed me NOW!!! She drank her Mom's milk slowly. Such a lazy sucker! I changed her and she began to scream yet again. She drank another 2oz of milk!!!! She needed some help getting happy again. Lots of bouncing in her Grandmama's lap before falling asleep once again. I took her to her Mom at 1:30 and then continued to Lexington and Wilson Farms. Bought lots of great produce and some chicken breasts. Half the bag was for the kids; half for us. It is strawberry season in MA, so I had to get some of those along with the local asparagus and spinach. A few leaks and some cream finished the bag. I drove back to Arlington to deliver their food and then came home and immediately fell asleep!
Dinner was a cauliflower gratin, roasted asparagus, green salad with a mustard vinaigrette, and some of the left over flank steak. My daughter sent a picture of their dinner.... asparagus, pasta and sautéed chicken breasts, made by her husband; the man who couldn't cook a thing three years ago!
My daughter is covered with a rash/hives that are itchy and ugly. She thinks she is allergic to a medication that her midwives' gave her. They are less convinced. She has decided to go see her PCP tomorrow to get her opinion. I highly suggested that she not take Olivia to a hospital, filled with sick people. So, I get another Olivia day! We have to go to the bank and maybe we will visit the fish store as well. All depends on Olivia's state of mind.
lacey, LOVE LOVE the song book that you gave to Olivia. Baby Burrito may be a classic.

I"m glad she's not in Arizona right now. There have been several reported cases of measles and the public health folks are busy....

Susan, I Hope that DD's hives remit. Always a terrible feeling to have one's body erupt for no understood reason. And of course it makes sense for you to "protect" that darling from a medical facility! Have fun with Olivia!
I'm glad the book is enjoyable to you. It's an unusual one that not everyone might appreciate. I did! And I figured that O would enjoy those musical verses sung/played by her grandparents. After anothervery long gym effort today, we had grilled chicken again for dinner. This time I made a Greek marinade for it, and we enjoyed that. Also made an orzo dish with diced shallot, red and yellow peppers, chopped kale, some dried mint, and parm sprinkled on top since my feta was old and disgusting looking. Made a salad with base of red leaf lettuce which we picked up at Volante's on our way home from gym.
Zumba update...I am still not great at all the steps, (DH is even more hysterical tho, since he has no musical sense, nor rhythm, and just randomly moves around waving his arms) but our teacher is so adorably into the music, and is such a great dancer, that every struggling participant enjoys the class!
Random question.....has anyone ever had a piece of leather furniture that gave a terrible "off gas" odor. DH's new chair, which he has been starting to love, is doing that so it may be returned. Really gross and unhealthful smelling!

Will have to rummage around in the freezer to find out what calls to me for dinner tonight.

Hi all - I have been missing a bit - traveled out of town, sadly for a funeral, shortly after surgery and it has taken a while to get back into the swing. Super cute Olivia and grand pics!
susan - I make those sesame noodles often! Easy and good.
moon - feel better soon! That's an order!
lacey - I laughed out loud at the description of your DH at Zumba, DH and I did P90x exercise discs for a while and watching him attempt the yoga produced a very similar result. He would pretzel himself into a position and they were already on to the next, which would cause some swearing - yoga is not relaxing for him! Whenever the subject of yoga comes up he always says "I hate yoga!" and people look at him like he has two heads, lol!
eric - I am picturing the dogs and cat enjoying waffles/batter, so cute!

Ha ha Lacey - love the zumba description! I've been waffling with the notion of getting the "Oldies" zumba addition -- it's strictly for baby boomers and moves at a slower pace. It's been on my amazon wish list for a while now. I need to just do it since our trips to the gym have been highly erratic since all the dad stuff going on. I think it would be more fun and motivating with an instructor though.
I'm wondering if the chair odor is caused by the foam padding. The very dense foam (especially the memory foam) can give off an odor that does eventually go away. Never had a leather product do that. Weird.
Today I dug some new potatoes and picked a large bunch of spinach which we'll have for dinner with a grilled pork steak. I also have an orzo Greek salad leftover from the weekend which I will eat, since DH won't touch olives unless they're in a bloody mary.
Dad had a four day stay in the hospital getting his meds straightened out. Turns out his pulse and heart rate problems were caused by his thyroid medication. Unfortunately, it caused him to lose valuable physical therapy time and his discharge date is next week. He is not ready for supportive living so I don't know what the plan is going to be. I'm waiting to hear from his social worker at ther rehab center today.
Love Olivia in the headphones. When we lived in St. Louis we had a 4th of July party every year which ended in everyone walking two blocks to the town fireworks display. We had football helmets for the real little kids that worked out just great. Like you Eric, I carry a pair of foam ear plugs. I often use them in casinos.
For you Carrie:

Nance - I bought a new recliner last year that had an obnoxious "outgasing" smell, although mine was fabric. It came from Macy's so I was able to read lots of reviews on line. One of the main complaints was the smell. After a month or two I didn't really smell it any more, and I have a very sensitive nose. Because of your post I actually got down on the floor & put my nose in various places. I'm guessing you're right about the foam. With my nose pressed right into the heavily padded arms & along the bottom, there is still a small residual smell. Do you have a 60 or 90 day warranty from the store?
Took my nephew to lunch today. He just moved back to Houston and wanted some of the greasy Tex-Mex he remembered from his childhood. Of course it's the same thing my son wants when he comes to town. Comfort food from their youth. There is a place in almost every strip center, I just haven't eaten that way in a long time. He was pleased. I managed to eat one cheese enchilada & a bit of rice.

I find that new memory foam--especially Tempur-Pedic--smells like a stale Hershey bar; but that doesn’t bother me half as much as the smell of a new custom guitar flight case: the petro-chemical smell of adhesives (like rubber cement mixed with superglue) is overpowering, and I have to keep them open in a separate room for a couple of weeks before I dare put a guitar inside them.
Picked out the remaining lobster meat from the shell & legs I brought home Sun. night, and then made stock out of the shells. Bought a rotisserie chicken (herbes de Provence, low-sodium) at WF, and had the wings plus a leg; and also some collard greens. (Roast potatoes for Gordy’s second side). Tonight, what’s left of the chicken--will probably stir-fry it with bell peppers, garlic greens and peapods.

so for approx 1 month I have been having heart palpitations off and on. With dizziness and nausea. Called the doc and got in for tomorrow.....but in the meantime. I have body aches and chills. As if I have a virus....what the hell? I won't know where to start when I see the doc...hypochondriac? Today after work. I slept all afternoon.
Thanks for the pic Nance. They are beautiful. Got my new one (blushing g bride) in the mail. It is do I g well and has a few blooms on it

Carrie - good luck tomorrow. We'll be in your pockets. Be sure to check in and let us know.

Yes, good luck tomorrow Carrie....thinking of you....and certainly not thinking hypochondria! Could easily be two separate things. Please do keep us posted.
Thanks for all of your ideas about the off-gassing with the chair. I know that the memory foam toppers can give such odors, for a short time, (and some of it could be the cushioning within the chair), but this is quite strong, and DH read about how the leather tanning process leaves such odors which can take a very long time to dissipate. Apparently the chemicals used are so toxic that they cannot now be used in the US. In fact, the leather part of the chair is imported from China. I am the one with the sensitive nose, but even DH is put off by this smell. Macy's said they have not had such a complaint, but are offering another chair by next week. We'll see what happens in a few more days. Tho the info DH read said that it could take many months. Not up for that! Thanks for doing sniff tests, Minus!

Nance, given your current busy state of affairs, getting the "Oldies" Zumba tape might make sense...so you can do it on your own time. Our instructor does zoom along with fast steps and I could really enjoy a slower pace. Love the flowering bush....a white flowering rhody? Or a hydrangea? I can't recall the chat you and Carrie had some pages back.
Special, I can totally appreciate your DH's feelings about yoga! Our new stretching instructor uses a lot of balance challenging yoga poses (more than our last beloved trainer did), which I can find difficult. Funny, I had no problem with the same postures in 1971!!! The good news is that our class is small, so she really checks to see that we are all doing it correctly and modifies for the most flexibility challenged of us. I'm slowly adapting to having the new trainer.

Minus, I thought of you tonight as I had a piece of string cheese, honey roasted peanuts and golden raisins for my singleton "dinner". Added a glass of wine once DH came home. Just was not in the mood to do anything but graze on my own....and that would happen several times a week if I were on my own.Yet interestingly, I didn't feel the usualneed to check out the "candy drawer" for chocolate after those "main course" choices.

Appetizer was a Sabra hummus single, a 1/4 c. of guacamole, 1/4 c. of tuna salad (WF lemon-dill) and sliced bell peppers and seedless cucumber. Then a rotisserie chicken thigh, spiced picked brussels sprouts and curried picked cauliflower. For dessert, half a cup of low-sugar milk and a couple squares of sugar-free dark chocolate.
