    Nice day here as well, breezy under a Door County blue sky. :-)

    Got in an early-morning walk, feels good to be outside, moving.

    Shower then headed out for some Shop & Sculpt at the farm-supply store. They're one of the few places I can find basic blue jeans without fancy stitching or rhinestones.

    Declutter & Sculpt today as we have new furniture arriving soon. Also attacked DDs room, found a ton of money from Christmas presents past, so well worth it. Biked for an hour for some fresh air.

    Thanks Falconer for posting. However, I had figured this out. Today's training ride was 60 miles on the Centennial Trail. The most glorious day. It hurts to sit down at the moment, but otherwise just fine. This makes 125 miles of cycling so far over this long weekend. Thinking of doing a short ride plus a hike tomorrow to explore a waterfall a few miles from here. If I jump in, does this count as a "tri"?

    No flats. Yay!!!!

    It was fun to be out amongst the fellow cyclists training for the Seattle-to-Portland. Most were much faster than I am, but all were impressed that I have done ten out of ten...in a row. (I left out the part about just after finishing active treatment 7 years ago.)

    Was sorry to learn that the wonderful microbrewery in Arlington has closed. So I swung into the Junkyard Grill for a burger. Was able to do the 22 miles back to my car afterwards. A girl has to eat.

    Speaking of which, dinner is almost ready. I have to eat up some of the strawberries. This is probably the last week for the divine local ones. Plus the last of the asparagus.

    This group is such an inspiration! I enjoy reading the post and seeing the pictures. I am very active in and around the house. Occasionally I get to walk at the lake or park. Zumba is my favorite and have plans to start back possible next week. My favorite zumba class ended 2 days before I got my BC diagnosis. I tried a different class a few times before surgery but just couldn't get into it. It was move strengthening zumba and I am more a booty shaking zumba girl. I am so limited to what I can do with my girl. I won't leave her with anyone but DH or DD. DH is self employed and always working and DD is always having babies...lol I will get this exercise worked out soon! How quickly life can change.

    You would like my favorite Zumba teacher, Varga. She is all shimmy and shake! Happy

    Off to POUND. This afternoon we will drag my brother & SIL out to a frontier village, a local tourist spot that you don't go to unless you have little kids or company.

    Ruth- sign me up! My zumba instructor was married to a Latino who was also a zumba instructor so there was also great music! Lots of beautiful Latino music with so boom Shakalaka Tunes! They moved to Mexico and she has a excellent job teaching international students. She was a 4th grade teacher here in my town. We lost a great teach at school and the gym!

    Enjoy your day. My BIL flew in last night from Colorado. Who knows what adventures our week will hold

    Octo - congrats on retirement - you will love it!

    Velvet - we also took social security early, 1 - hubby figured the break even point to be somewhere in our mid 80's and 2 - you just never know when life may throw you a curve. If you do join a gym, I suggest you get a trainer for the first few weeks - they will help you learn different machines, give you alternate exercises to do, and nothing is more motivating than having to see your trainer at the gym, makes you work out harder and longer. After a few sessions, you can go it alone with the routines they designed for you.

    I hadn't been to my gym in months (!), but with my trying to walk outside every day and the bugs are bad, I went the other day and put in a couple of miles walking on the treadmill. No alarms went off when I walked in the door :) Now it will be easier to go back. Still mostly eating well (though strayed last night with some celebratory margaritas), and getting some movement into my days. Yesterday we spent on the water, clamming and fishing, it was a glorious day.

    Teese - hope all was OK with the port placement. You'll notice it a lot at first, but after a week or so you get used to it. Badger - love the idea of a "golden" birthday. Octo - woohoo on the official retirement!!!!! Scottie - love the turtle convention. Velvet - LOL on the locals giving advice to the newcomers on house construction. I guess you've been accepted after all these years if the chief is recruiting you to help look after your elderly neighbors. The challenges and rewards of small town living both illustrated there in your post.

    The box turtle was ready for release Friday, so we picked him up on the way to the cabin and released him. He looks great with no sign of the abscess. I put some strawberries down next to him when we released him - we all know that the first day back home from surgery is rough, so I thought I'd give him something to get him through the night. Saturday morning he and the fruit were gone. We spotted him later at the edge of the woods looking good. Hooray. I wonder how he's going to explain to the other box turtles that he was kidnapped by aliens, subjected to painful medical procedures, then returned home. Winking

    We also had our first bear sighting of the season. This guy had ear tags and a radio collar on - we've never seen that before. Apparently Maryland DNR tags and collars cubs during winter hibernation so they can monitor them and their movements as they grow up and find new territories.

    Hi all. Congrats octo on your retirement. Best move I ever made!

    Skies just opened up so either will be pickleball if it stops by 5:30pm or will make it to the gym. We'll see.

    thanks all for the good wishes on retirement! Been celebrating with walks on the beach in Monterey, CA, where the weather has been cool. Perfect walking weather!

    hi all and happy birthday, America. Woke up too late for the town's firecracker 5K so will walk 3.1 miles this morning in solidarity. Another pretty day, going to get hot later - not my favorite thing - so best to get out early.

    I am approx seven years from retirement. My inner math nerd figures that's 1,600 days after subtracting legal holidays and paid leave. IDK which sounds shorter: 7 years or 1,600 days. ;-)

    I got a statement from U.S. social security, seems I have enough points to earn a retirement income. Nice surprise. I am tempted to take it earlier but may just wait 4 more years. Maybe I will watch the trend in my tumor markers along with exchange rates and decide later.

    Yesterday I walked along the lake with a friend and today am going off to salsa.

    Happy 4th everyone! Congrats on retirement Octo - I've got around 10 years yet give or take, depending on how the 401k does, Lord willin' and the creek don't rise. My golden birthday was when I turned 7 years old in august of 1969 - yikes!! Claire - biking has never been a fave of mine so I'm consistently amazed at your passion for the sport. You are quite awesome. Not sure when I last posted but Thursday was body sculpt and treadmill. Friday was lots of housework in the evening as we were busy Saturday with 2 graduation parties and an evening invitation to the neighbor's cookout. She lost her husband in January and has been suffering from serious depression and financial woes, plus she has health problems that keep her from working. That being said I did get in some more housework on Saturday morning before leaving for the first partay. I am also one that hates, hates, hates leaving a messy house to come back to after time away from home. Sunday I slept in then DH and I drove up to our DS and DIL's in Mt Pleasant (about 1.25 hour drive) to help with yard work. They're having a house-warming party on the 22nd and are sprucing up what was a very poorly tended yard when they bought the house late last summer. Sunday and yesterday consisted of lots of digging, raking, limestone hauling, weed-pulling, bush-trimming, power-washing, lawn-waste bag dragging and so on. Lots of bent-at-the-waste finger raking (at least that's what I call it) where we dug up ground-cover and when my back couldn't take that any longer I sat in the dirt like a small child with my legs straight out in a 'V' and kept going. It's amazing how finger-raking brings all those bits of loose root-balls to the surface so you can get them out. We then treated ourselves to showers, a round of golf and dinner out last night. Today would be body sculpt and treadmill if the gym were open but instead it's a rest day after a very physically active weekend. We got home around 1pm and I've been puttering around the house since (It's 3:44pm here in West Michigan). Doing laundry, breaking down a bunch of cardboard boxes for recycling, packed up a bunch of misc stuff to drop at the local charity place tomorrow and more stuff like that. Will run to the grocery store for some good grilling meat and sides for dinner tonight. I am so looking forward to retirement when I can putter to my heart's content and get caught up on so many things around the house.

    As had a THIRD flat tire, I was ready for a change of activities, so did a hike following a trip to the bike shop where they fixed the flat for free as they hadn't done the initial repair correctly. This was about 7 miles of walking/hiking so a total of over 9 miles for the day. As I took a bit of a dip, the trip back was nice and cool. - Claire

    A quick picture of our Walking Women; lots of ladies had daughters, sisters, friends etc. in town for the holiday (including me, my SIL is sitting next to me holding a flag) walked with us, so we had a big group for our Red, White, and Blue walk!

    Congrats, Octogirl, on retirement. I remember snorkeling with the sharks myself. My heart pounded at first but then I realized they were not paying a bit of attention to me. Phew.

    I hope to join the retirees in six years if I'm lucky and can come up with a plan, more likely 9 or 10 unless I move to Costa Rica, Ecuador or some other cheaper locale. It's all I can do to hang on until I get my son through college.

    Falconer, Amen on the outdoor exercise. It is totally more fun and really saves my sanity. One thing I've also noticed is a long, slow walk gets me better weight loss. And even though I know that, I can't slow myself down!

    Ruth, I'm sure you were glad to have a bigger WWW group. Very festive.

    Mary, I'd love to see a bear, but maybe not too close up. Rather encounter the turtle!

    Claire, beautiful refreshing waterfall.

    I'm off work this week and staying busy exercise wise. Saturday I trimmed hedges (no power tool so upper body workout) and weeded 55 minutes. Then I went for a 35 minute bike ride. Sunday my hubby and I went on a trail walk 53 minutes. Monday I mowed the lawn -1 hour. Yesterday we rode out bikes up the trail to the lake I frequently walk at - 1 hour 50 minute ride My app says I have 319 minutes of activity in the last week. I'd be in great shape if I could retire!

    Sweet - sounds like you're a thorough weeder! I'm with you about just sitting on my butt and getting it done. Ruth - love the RW&B walkers! Claire - that waterfall looks wonderfully refreshing. Two - trimming hedges with power tools is enough of an upper body workout, so I can't imagine what a great workout you got doing it manually.

    Exercise yesterday consisted in marching in our community's 4th of July parade. Each neighborhood and a lot of the clubs had a group in the parade, and a lot of local politicians joined in. Of course given that the average age of the marchers was probably north of 70, we ambled more than marched! But it was a lot of fun - people brought their kids and grandkids and dogs to watch, so we got lots of cheers along the way. Cooked out, then capped off the night watching the Capitol Fourth show. It was great this year I thought. We've gone down to the Capitol to see it live a few times before, but it makes for a long day. The older I get, the more I'm inclined to skip going down there and just watch it on TV instead. A/C, bathrooms, and a comfy sofa are hard to beat.

    Got my hair done today, and in a fit of frivolity (senility??) I got some green and pink highlights! They're so silly, but I really like them just for fun. One thing about having been bald for a year is that I don't take my hair nearly as seriously as I did before and am much more willing to try something different. No matter what you do, it all grows out sooner or later.

    Gosh Nats, after my hair came back I dyed it purple! More maroon than purple, and just once....but it was wild, crazy, curly, and fun. I learned you should do the stuff you want, and who cares what anyone else thinks!

    I am dragging my SIL (who is a very good sport & will try anything once) to yoga with me tonight.

    90 minutes push mowing tonight followed by 10 minutes laying in front of a box fan before dinner. Didn't cool me off fast enough so off came the sweaty capris and I ate my grilled burger in my stinky t-shirt then had a glorious cool shower and watched an episode of House of Cards.

    I have been having so much fun with my SIL (she & my brother came for the 4th & then he went on to a conference further west, and she has been hanging out with us....boo hoo, he is coming back tonight & he is dragging her home tomorrow). She is so fun because she is a 'yes' person. If I suggest (as I have) that we go shopping, go Wednesday Walking, walk DS's dog, go to yoga, Pound, have coffee on the deck, she says "Yes!"

    Pound & dog walking this morning. We are going out to dinner & watching The Blues Brothers tonight because she has never seen it!!! We must make up for this cultural deficient! Loopy

    Gee, I thought I was the only one who thought about colored hair but Ruth and Mary actually DID IT! I wanted to do "Katy Perry Blue" but with work, decided against it. Me and my BC survivor workmate did get a pink extension during October, but that was the extent of my experimenting.

    Sweet I laughed about the box fan and eating in your undies. Hey you deserve it after that mowing. I would do the same.

    Wednesday was to be my rest day but I did a 20 minute walk. Yesterday it was so hot and humid that I ended up skipping. Even at 7 it was too miserable so I took my shower and got comfy instead.

    Exercise today was helping H push-mow the yard. He mows the perimeter around the front & back with the push & finishes the rest with the riding mower. This morning, the rider wouldn't start. We took turns with the push - he would go 2 rounds and I would go 2 rounds. It was 8:30am & 89 degrees! He & I both push-mowed when we first built the house because we couldn't afford a riding lawnmower, but a couple of years later we bought one. We are built on three large lots and 27 years later this was hard work. I had on a long sleeved UPF 50 shirt and it was soaked when we finished.

    Poppy, that is hard work. I used to live on two lots and decided the back third of ours was going to be meadow. I got so tired of mowing with a push mower.

    My husband and I walked at the botanic garden today- 1hour 45 minutes but a bit of a stroll pace.

    H is so sore from the mowing this morning, he can barely walk. I have a sore breast. I ran into a crawfish mound in the ditch. The lawnmower stopped, but my body kept moving. Of course, it was the breast that had the surgery & radiation. More than a year out and it still hurt pretty bad. I iced it and that helped. But I told H, I am never doing that again. He is buying a new rider this weekend!! Texas in the summer is too dangerous to be push mowing....just like shoveling snow up north.

    Poppy, I enjoy mowing the lawn but haven't since surgery etc. seven years ago. We used to have a small house on a large lot. When we moved, we got more house and less lawn so DH and I are both happy. He hates mowing and would just as soon let it revert to prairie but those darn neighbors keep their yards nice, so we do too.

    Exercise for the past week was walking Weds, gym Thurs, walking at noon on Friday then out to supper for classic Midwest Friday Fish Fry with the moms and SIL last night. Today is Art Fair on the Square in Madison so lots of walking, and tomorrow taking mom to Drums on Parade. We both love drum & bugle corps. Monday off work but have eye doc appt in the morning then gym in the afternoon.

    Membership (free for the summer!) includes three sessions with a personal trainer. Gave him the SUSO exercise guidelines paper (see links below to the papers for trainers and exercisers) and bless his little 20-YO heart, he'd never heard of lymphedema. So thanks to Nats and others, we are continuing to spread the word. One CAN exercise safely after breast cancer treatment!
