ultrasound centers
Are there any breast imaging centers in US, which use ultrasound as primary breast cancer screen tool instead of mammogram? Thanks.

I think you would need your gynecologist to order one. A family member who is too young for mammograms get breast ultrasounds, and I think most facilities who do mammograms can run an ultrasound if more info is needed. Is there a reason you can’t have a mammogram?

Mammograms are the medical standard for screening since they miss fewer tumors than ultrasounds. Sometimes a tumor is not seen but radiologists find abnormalities like suspicious calcifications or architectural distortion which may be indicative of the presence of a tumor. Ultrasounds are useful as an additional screening for dense breasts or as a further diagnostic tool after an abnormal mammogram.
There are some private imaging centers in large cities that will do ultrasounds without a doctor’s referral but the entire cost must be paid by the patient.

I have never used one of the private imaging centers but know someone in NYC who did. It was affiliated with a company called RadNet. They are not regulated like hospitals so I have no idea how good they are. You can use google to find their locations. There are other companies as well but the centers are predominantly in large cities on the east and west coasts.
