@brutersmom How is it when you work out in an air conditioned gym? I may do that this summer if it ever gets hot here. Sometimes you just have to pat yourself on the back if you manage to do anything. I worked today and did some yard work. That may be it for exercise for me unless I feel inclined to stretch out these stiff legs in a bit.

@chicagoan. Air conditioning is better than outside most of the time but it is not perfect. My area is very humid. Not a bad as the south but still humid. I try to find the air-conditioning ducts to hang out under. I also use cooling rags. They help a lot.

I use cooling rags at work when it gets very hot. They do really help.

@brutersmom I should have broken out the cooling cloths today. It was really hot as I walked the few blocks to the gym and then even though it is air conditioned, it didn't feel very cool b/c a lot of people were there. I did weights so that's something. I've been off the anti-inflammatories but I hope I can get a new prescription b/c my knee and hip do hurt. I did feel better after the work-out.

The last 3 days and today have been in the low 60's here and raining. Highest 62. Ibrance keeps me mildly anemic so I find it hard to stay warm. Hard to break a sweat today when working out. I doubt I will be saying that at the end of the week. They are talking about a heat wave and of course with all the rain we have had it will also be humid. Yuck. Tomorrow is supposed to get to 70. Keep exercising and dont forget the cooling rags.

Today I was able to do both a 15 minute HIIT workout, and the full range of motion . I can move my arm over my head again, and so happy! I added some dumbbell exercises for biceps and triceps than called it a day. Slowly getting the body back in motion. You gals inspire me. ❤️🙏

@rlschaller Good for you! So nice to get range of motion back.

I walked 2 miles today. I plan to go to Enhance Fitness tomorrow and just not do the hand weights since I’m still bandaged up from my carpal tunnel surgery. And I’m not supposed to lift more than 2 pounds. Good to get moving again.

@AJ-Good for you! That is quite a walk. I bet it felt good to move. Have fun tomorrow.

AJ - hope your carpal tunnel surgery is healing well. Did you enjoy the Enhance workout? I’m trying to walk more too, did 7k steps yesterday. But that was easy, cause I took the bus into the city, and walked around before after doctor appointments lol..

I’m trying anew video workout, longer with a mix of cardio and weights. So much more flexible now that my radiation has healed. When you feel good, it’s so much easier to move. Wishing everyone a good day.

7k steps is great, @rlschaller. You are a trooper. @AJ Two miles when you're dealing with the aftermath of surgery is impressive. @chicagoan I've been biking to Pilates. It's only a mile so very doable. Adding in that little extra at a time is a good strategy I think. @brutersmom Yeah, hot! even the dog does not want to go far.

Great work everyone! It's inspiring to hear what you are doing. Today I will focus on yoga-my muscles seem to get so tight after 9 years on AI's. I think I need to make sure I am doing enough stretching.

@rlschaller I skipped Enhance fitness this week. Just didn’t want to motivate. Bandages come off tomorrow. EF classes are on a little break for a couple of weeks. I’ll keep walking and try some yoga.

Bumping this thread. It's lazy summer, so I'm assuming everyone is out and about as best everyone can be. I'm on a quiet island, and plan to do some biking around it today, on my old rickety bike. I will try get get a shot of the wild turkeys.

@tougholdcrow Enjoy your island getaway and biking!

I've been mainly getting my exercise commuting to work, standing and walking in this hot weather at work. My hip does not seem to be improving despite PT and acupuncture. Just hoping I can get back on an NSAID after I see a new primary care physician in late August. I should try to get to a pool-I think that would be a good place for me right now. Still doing weights and yoga.

I continue going to the gym. Weather here has been in the 80's and 90's sometimes 100 with humidity above 70. AC is working over time. Normally I would be at the pool but my daughters pool has a leak and she is waiting for the new liner. Hopefully mid July. Perhaps it is a good thing. Tuesday we had 7.2 inches of rain and my half hour drive home from the oncology center took two hours. Most of that was trying to travel 10 miles.

@tougholdcrow biking around the island sounds lovely and relaxing. I love the image of a rickety but effective old bike, like an old friend…

@chicagoan sorry to read that the hip is not improving. I hope you can get the NsAid in August, and swimming I’ve read is super helpful. Weights and yoga are great for stamina and strength!

@brutersmom that rain is crazy ! Glad you got home safely, though 2 hours ugh….

I’ve been doing the same old routines right now, range of motion alternating with weights and HiIT on YouTube. Some days I do 3k steps some 6k. Pending on the heat. The chemo fatigue is building, sometimes feels like moving through molasses…lol… but I remind myself I am a being of white light who is walking… and that helps me keep moving happily! 🐈‍⬛🙏❤️

Hi ladies! I need some help getting moving again. Perhaps joining you will help. I'm usually busy in the garden and woods spring through fall but not since dx last august of tnbc. That treatment and left mastectomy is done. Now I'm waiting for a nerve block for nerve pain in middle section from an Injury in late February and a hemogioma in mid back. But I'm not useless just taking it easy so I don't aggravate things. Sometimes even walking is too much.

I can't tolerate the heat so thought at least to do a routine of stretches and weight. I'd walk evenings if cool enough. I typically at least walk to the bridge 400 ft from front door. Then continue up hill another1200 feet or so. Yeah, nowhere near what I should.

Is walking supposed to ease nerve pain?

    Wish me luck.

@gailmary Do you have a PT person? Maybe you can get a consultation with one? They could probably give you some good advice. I'm just thinking of how I get through long hikes when I think I can't make it another step and I start counting my steps. It helps somehow. Maybe you can say, I'll just count ten more steps today.

    chicagoan Posts: 1,383

@gailmary Consulting with PT does sound like a great idea.

@tougholdcrow It's funny you mention counting steps. When walking gets tough for me, I do that too. It seems to help.

The hot weather broke here and (fingers crossed), my hip feels a lot better this morning. I have PT tomorrow and acupuncture on Wednesday. Today I'll go to the gym and lift weights, do a little walking to see if my hip is better and some yoga.

@gailmary nice to see you here. So glad you are past the TNBC part of treatment. Sorry to read about the nerve pain. Sending hugs . Echo the PT or OT recommendations. You might ask your MO perhaps for a rehabilitation doctor referral for pain mtg? I got one for my lymphedema and she is awesome, and they usually work side by side with PT or OT specialists.

@tougholdcrow @chicagoan I have also used counting to get through painful long hikes. Lol years ago I did a hike up a mountain in Burma and counted from 1-10 in Japanese lol… over and over to get me up the mountain path. Haven’t thought about that in 40 years !

So nice to see this thread active again! I haven’t logged in for a long time so it’s a nice surprise! I’ve started doing daily yoga and it’s been a fantastic way to start the day. I’m still rock climbing and hiking and doing my best to keep moving! So glad to see everyone moving and grooving!

Hello @dghoff, I havent seen you around bco before.

I do have a therapist I'll be seeing again after I consult the spine surgeon about my back.. Walked a bit further today. Next few days look promising weather wise. Usually cooler when I get into the woods. Dh wants to increase his walking too so that's a plus.

I usually use the step counter on an app on my phone. I have a new trail in the woods. I still haven't used the counter on it. Many routes on the different paths that the deer made and I opened up a bit.

yesterday I biked around the island and then went on a three-hour kayaking jaunt with a much younger person, and she was tired after all this, so I was feeling good for a rickety old cancer patient. Today I am suffering w back and hip pain but still glad I did it. I am having a problem in hot weather with excessive sweating which I never had before and assume it is the estrogen blocker

Tough old crow. I'm impressed. And yes I'd agree about the sweating. I have the same issue.

I've increased my walking a bit but mighty humid out. Also did a bit of garden work. Soil is soft and plants are lush with all the rain.

Tougholdcrow. I have the same issue. Whenever I workout I carry a wet cooling rag. It helps reduce the sweat while the sweat keeps n it wet. LOL. Because I get bad night sweats as well the oncologist wants me to try accupuncture. I will let you know if it helps with the day time sweats.

@AJ Swimming just makes you feel so good and relaxed, doesn't it! Thanks for the commiseration, @brutersmom and @gailmary . It's a bit embarrassing in pilates class when I'm sweating like a pig (do pigs really sweat that much?) and nobody else is. I'm having some days off from heavy exercise just to get my body feeling ok again. I sometimes feel I'm constantly trying to prove myself ("move along, no cancer here, nope!").

A short hike through the woods yesterday cause large dead oak tree was down in the path. The oak knocked over a big Black cherry tree and laid it on top of a couple of smaller oak. Damn. Gotta see about saving them. Dh got the chain saw and one little oak looks good now. The other I don't know. These are the most important trees in the woods and I loose about 1 a year to oak wilt disease. Boo hoo. This is my happy place. Couldn't work too hard at clean up cause of back pain.
