I did some corn on the cob, some of the leftover chicken and BBQ beans. Desert was a peach. The peaches are at their peak ripeness and are SO juicy that I have to stand over the sink while eating them. :-)

Oh yes the peaches. I really need to get over to Chick-Fil-A and have one of their peach milkshakes.

Another day of extreme heat today. Going to make Hot Dish early so all we have to is heat it up in the microwave later. At this point, I am so over summer!

Peach milkshake…There is no ice cream in the freezer here and I had not planned to go into town today. I will likely change my plans. :-)

Sharon will be at DD's home in about an hour. When MIL gave up driving, she gave us her car with the understanding that DD will get it when she wants it. Originally we were going to take it back in October (wedding time), but "the want (need) is now". Tomorrow, DD and Sharon will go to the state office and transfer the ownership of the car to DD…and we can take it off of our insurance plan.

I dislike the intense heat too but I think I will never be over summer. I miss the sunshine too much. On the other hand, I don't live where we have relentless heat like minus.

Because I have all the ingredients, tonight is Frogmore stew. It's always best when corn is in season. In spite of the name, no frogs will be used.

Auntienance, I never heard of frogmore stew but it sounds yummy. I'll have to try it! We're having leftover Chinese take-out from yesterday. I had a bad day and my loving DH stopped for my favorite Chinese on the way home.

Info - it's s really nothing more than a low country boil but I like the name lol

I will have to google frogmore stew. I love frog's legs, so I would not have objected them being in there, but for the locating them, LOL.

I made an open-faced "cheese burger" (used a slice of bread) for dinner, early, so we could fish again. No fish.

A few days off from fishing (weather/tides). DH harvested one of our napa cabbages…holy-crap it is huge…so I think a shrimp stir fry of sorts…maybe I'll boil up the cabbage in a chicken broth base with noodles and shrimp..

DH's labs just came in…lots of crap out of range, but PSA…NORMAL!!!!!!!!!!!!! we can ignore this for another 6 weeks. WOOHOOO.

    Good news, Wally!!!

Summer heat and humidity have invaded us for a couple of days. The excessive heat brings storms. We have storm warnings for tonight and tomorrow night.

Last night's dinner was barbecued chicken thighs and fresh green beans with new potatoes.

Tonight will be a small pork steak cut into strips and cooked with cabbage in a skillet dish. Also corn cut off the cob and sauteed with butter.

I had a blueberry shake at the farmers market last Saturday. It tasted good and was refreshing.

I decided to use the Indian cookbook and even though they use regular cabbage, I'm using up my monster napa…buttered, indian spices. Instead of rice, I will add a can of white beans and slip the shrimp in.

No peaches (or peach milkshakes) here but we did drive to the ice cream stand in the middle of nowhere. It's up on a hill with a great view and a good breeze so it's a wonderful destination in the heat.

Nance, I had never heard the name frogmore stew but it sounds more exotic than low country boil.

Intolight, I love takeout Chinese food but usually only have it on my birthday since DH can't eat it. I cook my own versions that he can have but it's never as good.

Wally, Yay for the normal PSA! That's one heck of a napa cabbage.

m0mmy, It's wise to cook early in the day before the house heats up.

Carole, No blueberry shakes but lots of good fresh blueberries this week.

Dinner tonight was fish and chips for DH and a crabcake with salad for me.

I tried a new recipe that I think someone here shared. Broccoli & noodles with fried mushrooms, onions, garlic & Hoisin sauce. It was good but next time I'll use thinner noodles and more Hoisin. In fact I think I'll try a Hoisin slurry mix

Wow on the cabbage! Great news on the PSA.

Some of you may know Illinois Lady (Jackie) from other threads. She has been the anchor member of the Oldies thread for years. I met her there in 2009 and feel like she's a long-time friend. Suddenly she stopped posting. We were all concerned. I learned this morning that she passed. I'm shocked and saddened. She had heart issues so I think she must have had a heart attack.

Better news is that our weather forecast was more dire than the actual weather early this morning. We have the same forecast for tonight so I hope we can luck out again.

I plan to cook eggplant lasagna this morning. It's hot and muggy again today so we'll have to leave the a/c on in the camper.

Last night's dinner was a skillet dish with pork strips, cabbage, orange bell pepper, and corn off the cob. Also a salad with cucumber, tomato, avocado, and blue cheese for me. DH's salad substituted sweet onion for the avocado.

Carole - I'm sorry to hear about Illinois Lady. I lurk on that thread some and am familiar with her postings. Thanks for updating us.

It's going to be hot here too for the next few days. I'm not sure what's for dinner. Possibly gyros with a Greek salad if I go out for feta.

Thank you for rooting for my DH.

Sorry to hear about Jackie. I don't recall how old she was…

Leftover Indian cabbage w/ shrimp. It turned out so well that DH and I had seconds.

Mommyof3, I curse summer as soon as it starts. I am not a sun worshiper and think I have Reverse SAD, so the longer days plus the sun keep me inside as much as possible. They have predicted 80 here twice but did not happen (hit 71) so I am hoping for the same on Monday.

Carole, Thanks for the update on Illinoislady who was the backbone of several threads. She was always upbeat in spite of her health challenges and will be missed. Online friends are real and it hurts when they are no longer with us.

Wally, The Indian cabbage with shrimp sounds intriguing.

m0mmy, When I was younger temperature extremes didn’t bother me. Now I dislike both heat and cold.

Nance, Your mention of a Greek salad has me craving one.

Dinner tonight was chicken and asparagus lasagna.

Maggie - I have a bundle of fresh asparagus so I may try that lasagna dish over the weekend. But I had also looked up the one pan Garlic & Butter Chicken with Asparagus - so I may do that.

Maggie, the heat never bothered me much until chemo, now when it gets too warm, i suffer.

Our 15 year old hot water heater sprang a leak when pressurized. We spoke to a plumber on the phone but have to wait until Monday for someone to come. This stuff always seems to happen on the weekend.

Minus, I love asparagus and chicken so I'll have to look into the one pan Garlic & Butter Chicken with Asparagus recipe.

    Dinner tonight was leftover lasagna.

WOW, 15 years is great. We're on our 3rd …agree…detest the weekend ick.

I've got dry-rubbed baby-back ribs in the fridge and will crockpot them tomorrow. Slaw made, just need another veg.

Last night's dinner was BLTs made with tomatoes and butter lettuce from the farmers market and sour dough bread, also from the market. I've been drooling over the bread for weeks but haven't bought any previously.

    The meal was wonderful.

Tonight we'll have the leftover eggplant lasagna and a salad.

Summer took a bit of break here, was in the 70s last night. Went for an evening walk along the waterfront and there was actually a breeze. We enjoyed crab cakes and salad at our local restaurant . Temps rising again, and still enjoying the CSA and experimenting. Tonight will be Sautéed Japanese eggplant, with green peppers, garlic and ginger and baked tofu. This morning I treated myself to a toasted bagel with lox and cream cheese, and a coffee. Ahh… it’s the little things.

There are four wildfires burning to the south and southwest of where I live, the closest is probably 70 miles distant but the winds are from that direction and the smoke smell is quite strong.

15 years for a hot water heater is amazing. I think I've gone as long as 12 years between leaks.

Summer in Phoenix was "ugly", but the fresh fruit made up for it. Summers here in Snowflake are mild and the fresh fruit is just as good, so I think we've come out ahead. :-)

Sharon will, if the schedule holds, arrive in Winslow tomorrow around 7pm, so dinner will be either round 5pm for me or eating out if Sharon hasn't had dinner while aboard the train. The cell phone coverage along the tracks for the last 5-6 hours of travel time is good, so we should be able to coordinate the dinner plans.

Today is another sourdough bread baking day.

Our local weather forecast office doesn't seem to abuse the word "severe" in their warnings. Most warnings are just "storm warnings". Maybe 1 or 2 times a year "severe" is added to the warning and when they do, people take notice.

Brats, tomato, cuke and onion salad tonight.

Rhonda, There is nothing that compares to a good NYC bagel. There were no bagels available when I lived in Scotland. One of the violin teachers at the school where I taught missed those his bubbeh had made in Australia. He traveled the world as a soloist and brought back bagels for me from all over: Tokyo, Moscow, Tel Aviv, Auckland, Buenos Aires, Paris, San Francisco, Krakow, … The best of all were from NYC. It's good there was a break in the heat so that you could get out for a walk.

Carole, Your farmer's market sounds so much better than any I have ever been to.

m0mmy, Your post reminded me I haven’t made my cukes in yoghurt and dill salad yet this summer. I’ll have to do that.

Eric, I hope those wildfires stay away from your home. It's good that you can coordinate dinner plans with Sharon. She'll enjoy your fresh baked sourdough bread when she gets home.

Dinner tonight was salmon in teriyaki sauce and sautéed zucchini/summer squash mix.
