Got the stinking hear advisiory going here in the Twin Ports of Lake Superior. Weather says we might get some storms tonight. I am praying for storms to break the heat.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Saturday! The shoe shopping with Mom was a bit of an experience. I took her to an actual shoe store where she got her feet measured. She tried on one pair of shoes, and flat refused to try on any more. Why? Because they weren't the same shoes as a WalMart. "I want the shoes I saw in WalMart." Ok, so she wants slip on loafers and not the Mary Jane style shoes the shoe store had. Side note: I did not know that loafers were a seasonal shoe, out in fall in and winter but not summer. Go figure. Anyway, after some back and forth Mom finally agrees to go to WalMart, to get shoes and look at nothing else, and be done. (I really do not like shopping in Walmart, especially the superstores. Too big, too hard to find things, too many people shopping, not enough people working. I will get things from WalMart via delivery, pick up, or shipping, but stay out of the store as much as possible. So we head over to the local WalMart Superstore, that I haven't set foot inside of since Covid. "What am I getting here?" Mom asked, several times, as we walk through the store looking for women's shoes. I had to stop her from going down every side aisle to look at everything "to see if there is something I want." Keep in mind Mom is using one of the motorized carts. I have to sit on the floor to help her try on shoes, and she wants to stop and try on each pair she looks at as she looks at them. My bad knee does not take well to repeatedly getting up and down off the floor (the only seat in the shoe area was occupied by an employee busy on his phone). I finally convince her to collect 5 pairs of shoes to try on, find a place that is the least in the way as possible, and sit myself down on the floor to do a serial try on session. One pair of shoes with 1 1/2 inch heels, was immediately voted down. Another pair that looked too slippery on the bottom was also voted down. The other three pair were tried on, 3 or 4 times each, so mom could compare. She finally settled on the blue pair that felt really comfortable (I didn't let on that those shoes were 8 1/2, since she believes she only wears 7 to 7 1/2, which is visibly too small and causing sores on her feet) and a black pair of crock-like slip ons for around the house. By now it's after 2 peeyem, I'm starving, and she wants to "look around for a while" to see what else she needs, which means her wandering around the store for 1 to 2 hours. I play the hunger card and convince her to check out the shoes and I'll take her to our favorite restaurant, Olive Garden, for lunch.
Part 2, sort of:
At Olive Garden Mom ordered and drank a glass of Chardonnay with her lunch! "My doctor said I could have a drink once in a while, and I don't have to worry about driving. But don’t get the bright idea that YOU can have a glass of wine, you're driving!"Next project is to get Mom to wear socks under her shoes like the podiatrist wants to her to! With correctly fitting shoes (tried on with socks on) I'm hoping she will start wearing socks again.
Carole--Hugs. It's hard when someone drops off the boards like that. It sounds like the passing was not anticipated. I pray it was comfortable and peaceful for her.
mOmmy--I think we're catching the edge of the heat dome, the weather guessers were talking about possible heat wave over the weekend and into next week. I hope you got some storms, or at least enough to break the heat and humidity.

The passing of Illinois Lady (Jackie) has reawakened some of the grief for Goldie/Lori and for Connie/Puffin. I miss all three of them. I didn't know Goldie as long as I knew Jackie and Connie, but I really admired her spirit.
NM, I'm shaking my head at your mother's preference for shoes from Walmart's. Good for her, though, at having a glass of chardonnay.
We plan to do some biking today. We transport our bikes to a paved biking trail (Rails to Trails). All the small towns along the trail have parking lots. We bike to the next town and then return. The most we've biked this summer was 13 miles. That's about our limit. The longest we managed some years ago was 25 miles. And I remember being REALLY exhausted.

Carole - sorry to read of Jackie’s passing. May her memory be a blessing.
Hugs to all remembering those who have moved on, who we have loved. 🥰NM - this is Elvis week, so loving the blue suede shoes cocktail 🍹 recipe. Even though I don’t drink them lol…I love reading them.
My MO told me once a month a drink is fine , so have been back to basics with Guinness.. so nice in the heat.0 -
Went to church and they were having a back to school sale for clothing. Picked up a couple outfits for my niece. Ran into my Daddy's best friend today at church, had a nice conversation with him. Popped in our way home to my aunt's for a visit and coffee. She said her garden was loaded with produce and i was welcome to raid it. So i did.

Good morning friends:
Been a busy start to the month with the construction (for the most part) done at the new hospital and the load of everything that need to go in it starting. A lot of people are finally back in the office and when I heard management say "all hands on deck this summer" what that really meant was, let's have everyone take vacation. Nope, can't make this stuff up but just staying focused on what has to get done. After close to four years on this project, I am ready to get on the other side of this. At the end of the year, I will be deciding if I am going to finally retire beginning of 2026 which is my working plan.
It's been god awful hot here this week with the "heat dome" that has been sitting over the western US; or more plus every day but today we have a bit of cloud cover so it's hovering around high 80s. Yes it's a dry heat but 100 is brutally hot in the high desert. I was at an outdoor concert last night and one of my friends left early as she felt sick and one of the singers couldn't finish the show as she had heat exhaustion. The summers have been way too hot for a while now and although I used to love summers, here we have weeks if not months of brutally hot weather now out here in the west. I think the heat dome is moving east so be ready my east coast peeps.
Teka- those eats look good. I am baking some zucchini bread this afternoon with some donations given to me from a friends garden. The recipe in an old cookbook I love calls for orange extract and since I didn't have any, I used a space of triple sec in my bread, is that wrong? LOL.
Mommy- I am thinking of you on the anniversary of your father's passing. My feeling is you must have lost him very young.
Carole- I am sorry to hear of a sister's passing here on the threads. There are so many who have left us that were here since I first joined in 2012. I remember a few years back, there were just so many passings with people I knew who died from Covid and a family member who passed from a long illness, that in combination with people here resulted in me not being able to come here for awhile. Thank you for letting us all know and sending much love to you. I think of several who used to be here like Goldie, Cami, etc. so often.
NM- your stories of your mom remind me of an elderly relative of the family who, whenever any of us visit, looks for us to take her shopping. My sister was just back east and did so and said it was a lot like your story; this person has a need to touch everything too (well I understand that as I am particular to specific fabrics myself). You are a good daughter to do all you do to help your mom.
Summer feels like it's winding down, but I am ready for fall too!
Have a good week ladies…..

i did. I was only a couple months past three when he died. He never made it to 40.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Monday Mokey Day! I had a good visit with the Mother yesterday. We sorted through a bunch of clothes and got the wearable ones hung up or in the wash, as appropriate, or in the Goodwill box, or, for a very few items, into the trash. Mom is really struggling with buttons due to the arthritis in her hands, so we got some button up blouses buttoned up so she can put them on over her head to make life a little easier. The power went out in her area the day before, and yesterday she didn't have power to part of the kitchen. I texted the landlord, he told me where the breaker box was (behind the laundry room door when it's open, so I never saw it), and I was able to get things, including the AC, up and running again. Later the neighbor came over, when they got home the other day they had no power anywhere in their apartment and had to reset all their breakers to get it back on line. The electricity has been very wonky ever since the landlord had a generator hooked up a few months ago.
There are heat advisories up again for today through Wednesday. I usually turn off the AC when I go to bed and don't have to turn it back on until mid-ayem but yesterday I had to turn it on almost as soon as I got up, and again this ayem, too. I hope Mom will leave her AC on over the next couple of days. It's set for 82 degrees and she still complains it's too cold! I just about melt whenever I go over.
Carole--Hugs for the memories of Jacky, Goldie and Connie. I still open up BCO and expect to see a post from Goldie. I'm not sure if Mom really preferred the Walmart shoes or if she was rebelling because I dragged into a real shoe store. If Mom had her way she would get everything from Walmart or one of the Dollar Stores. She gets so exhausted after spending hours going and down every aisle of that huge store that she can't do anything for the next day or so but sleep. Then again, the shoes she found in Walmart are easier for her to get on and off by herself. I'm glad she drank the glass of wine with lunch, too. It did rather surprise me, especially at lunch, but I'm ok with it! Good for you for getting out on your bikes! It's so nice you have the biking trails to use and can take advantage of them.
Rischaller--I did not realize it was Elvis week! It's really interesting how much alcohol/how often different docs set for a safe limit. Although I imagine it can be different based on the specific treatment a person gets.
mOmmy--it sounds like you had a really good day! Raiding a garden is always fun. What did you get?
Jazzy--I can actually believe that "all hands on deck this summer" meant "everyone go on vacation and let the project simmer in the heat". You must be getting excited about getting closer to the retirement decision point. As to the heat dome, I think we may be getting the nearest edge of it coming in. The temps are predicted to be almost 100 degrees over the net few days. The weather/climate really has changed, I remember getting only a few days of weather this hot in the summers when I was a child/young adult. That was when you only had an AC in your house if you were very rich or had emphysema and a doctor's order for one, which would be in only one room. Heat exhaustion and heat stroke were things we only thought about when we went someplace "hot" on vacation.
mOmmy--hugs.

No house A/C - and I remember no A/C in the cars either. Very hot driving across Nevada & the Salt Flats every summer. The best breeze was from the 'wind wings', if anyone else remembers those.

When i raided my aunts garden i got green beans, tomatoes and cukes.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Twofer Tuesday! Shortly after posting here yesterday I got a phone call from Uncle Kenny's stepdaughter letting us know that he died in his sleep during the night, was found passed early in the ayem. It made for a hard day for Mom, who is the last surviving sibling now. She's been wanting to take a trip to Texas to see him, but we were waiting for the change of seasons as she can't really handle the heat His passing isn't exactly a surprise, he has had heart trouble and been in declining health for some time, but was not anticipated. At least it was peaceful.

A picture of me in one of my swim designs was featured in an Australian article on flat closure! It's an interesting read. Instead of just telling women, "You won't feel feminine without breasts," someone actually asked women who had gone flat. A massive 92% were happy with their results. Respondents also reported a lot of pushback and resistance from their care team when they asked for flat closure - some doctors even demanded a psych evaluation before they would listen to their patient! Hopefully, this article will help reassure surgeons and oncologists that going flat is a reasonable option that should be offered along with implant and DIEP options.
I posted the link on my store site, which is also moving along. Still no sales yet, but I have added Canada and Australia to my shipping list. I also imported my listings into Google Business to try and get some traffic outside of social media, and am in the middle of cleaning up the listings that didn't quite import completely. One issue was they somehow dropped the hyphen in my brand name. 🙄 Slowly but surely building along.

Lovely!!
I've often wondered why guys don't need to wear shirts but women without boobs are still expected to cover up. I'm still (18 years now) trying to figure out how to dress without a bra…t-shirt, then clothes, maybe a cami, maybe a "starter" bra…oy.

I’m just sorry they aren’t both gone. Wearing a bra makes a muscle in my back spasm. Not a problem in the winter but summer makes it harder to go bra less

Hello, I have been busy between my mom and my grand children. School here started yesterday, so maybe some of it will get back to a normal schedule. My mom seems to be having more times of confusion, but she keeps her home clean and eats regularly and herself is taken care of, I think she is ok so far. The confusion isn't anything too serious.
Carole- I am sorry to hear about Ilinois lady/Jackie. I wasn't really active on that site, but I did read and remember she always would write an uplifting post each day.
I just wanted to pop in, hope to write more later.

Wally T, I’m thinking about you in this too hot weather. I know you prefer cold and snowy so hang in there.

I typically just wear a cupless sports bra. It gives some support to my remaining breast, but doesn't leave bunched up fabric over my flat side. I'm openly single-breasted, so I barely ever foob.

Me too Wren. I love cooler weather.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Hump Day! We're going into day 3 of temps in the 90s, so it's an official heat wave. All I can say is thank goodness for AC!
Miriadra--great article, and beautiful picture! It is unbelievable how sometimes medicine decides what patients want or need without consulting the people actually in the position of making such choices. I think a lot of women are pressured into having breast conserving treatments rather than mastectomy, too. Wishing you the best of luck with the store, I'm sure it will take off soon.
Wally--good question about guys and shirts and women without breasts and shirts. I'm guessing a lot of people feel really uncomfortable when faced with visible evidence that a breast is still a viable and vital human being. Not every woman with breasts wears a bra all the time, why on earth should a woman without breasts have to?
Wren--I went a year with one breast before reconstruction. I remember the back and neck pain when I didn't wear the prosthesis, and the shoulder pain and skin irritation when I did wear it. I can't imagine how much worse it must be to be having back spasms.
Misty--glad to hear your Mom is still doing well. I strongly recommend that you get your name put on her bank accounts now, and set up online access so you can monitor how she's doing with the bills and such. I did not realize my Mom needed significant help with that until her phone and cable account and credit care got cut off for non-payment. She had gotten letters, but didn't understand them so she piled them up and ignored them. It took some doing to get things squared away again. The sad part is my name was on her accounts and I could have been monitoring to make sure things were going ok but didn't know to be doing that.

It hit 88 yesterday and dropped to 70s by 7pm. 3 days of ick, so I feel for those of you dealing with this for days on end. Hope we can hover in the 60s and YAY that August is 1/2 over….
I've been wearing a wool/silk tee as my "bra" (i've had bmx) and then whatever I choose to wear. I just ordered a wool tank top to see how I will feel with that. Not wearing a bra makes me feel naked, for some odd reason. I had large breasts, so I could never go without a bra…well…societal-ly speaking, LOL.

Got a really surprising request from a cousin if mine today. She asked if I crocheted pot holders and if so would i like to make some for a raffle table for a tournament for a family member who they have started a scholarship in her honor. So i figure i can half at least half a dozen done for October when theybare needed.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Saturday! The temps here dropped almost 40 degrees overnight, from 80s to 40s, now 65. And dry. Compared to the last few days it feels like fall! It was nice to be able to turn the AC off overnight, hope to keep it off today.
Wally--We really can internalize those societal expectations, can't we? I haven't worn a bra since recon, and still feel a little funny about it sometimes more than 10 years later!
mOmmy--it's funny, I don't remember ever crocheting pot holders, but I do remember crocheting dish washing squares. I wonder if they are the same thing, different name.
Teka--LOL at soaking up the heat! Furbabies basking in the sun always look so relaxed and comfortable.

nm, i think their similar, just a bit smaller.

I have a huge supply of crocheted squares that I use for washing dishes. I like crocheting with pretty colored yarn and tried selling the washcloths. I also like embroidering and made hand-embroidered placemats. I wasn't successful at selling them. I think most people don't use placemats these days like I do. I even made placemats the right size for our camper table.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Monday Monkey Day!
Minus--you'd love the temps we're getting, it's dropping in to the 40s at night sometimes!
mOmmy--I think you are right, the washcloths are smaller than potholders.
Carole--I think you are right about people not using placemats as much anymore. Mom still uses placemats, and has even made placemats to fit specific table settings for the holidays.

Yeah, i attempted to start the pot holders last night while watching The Rookie episodes i havent seen yet. I've become such a fan! Love Bradford and Chen!

I still use placemats. But then I am old. And I have a solid oak table that I want to protect. My Mother always used table cloths, but I like to see the wood.
Wow NM - lots of drinks. Instead of gin & tonic with lime I've started drinking bourbon with a splash of water and lemon. Quite refreshing at 100 degrees again today.

When we lived in our old house, my table was protected by a thermal pad and table cloth. Also a big believer in placemats.
