Wow, Betrayal, glad I didn't have to pay for your Costco haul! I got my Costco check, and it was less than $4. LOL. We go to Sam's Club often but haven't developed a Costco habit. One Costco food item I really like is the spinach/cheese ravioli. It's handy for quick dinners. Sam's club gives Sam's Dollars that can be used throughout the year as earned. Sam's also has the option of checking out with their app and bypassing the checkout station. I use that option.
I'm back to some focus on losing weight and have been doing well the last few days. There certainly are temptations. Winn Dixie had small pies for $3.99 when I was there yesterday. I'm not tempted by the fruit pies or the pumpkin but I love sweet potato pie and had to resist buying one. A reminder to self that I'm borderline diabetic helped. And I knew I would binge on the pie. My other preference in pies is custard pies like lemon meringue and chocolate. My mother made those for holiday eating.
DH went to the gym this morning. I may walk in the neighborhood if the weather isn't too hot, like it was yesterday. Chilly weather is coming for Thanksgiving and it will reach us in the Jacksonville, FL, area where we will be, at a nephew's home.
I will catch up on laundry today.
Sandy, glad your plumbing issue is resolved.
Happy Sunday to all.

Words are singularly the most powerful force available to humanity. We can choose to use this force constructively with words of encouragement, or destructively using words of despair. Words have energy and power with the ability to help, to heal, to hinder, to hurt, to harm, to humiliate and to humble.

Sandy - great news on the medical and home fronts. Hopefully you can now settle into your home, relax and have a boring few months (years?)
Betrayal, like you, I made our monthly Costco run this week but ours is much smaller than yours. Just paper and household products along with soda. I have a really bad Diet Coke addiction. I know it’s bad for me but it’s my only really bad habit. Thank you for buying extra turkeys - I can guarantee the recipients will be happy to have them. Unlike Carole, I did not resist the sweets as I picked up a jar of chocolate covered macadamia clusters (okay - maybe chocolate is my second really bad habit).
The food pantry has been very busy. Fortunately our governor threw some money at the food banks which helped considerably, however, we still ran out of food yesterday towards the end. We expect the increased demand to continue. DH volunteered at Habit for Humanity yesterday hanging drywall. We were both exhausted last night.
I was in a bit of a panic this last week as my procrastination caught up with me. We are leaving on Friday for Spain and won’t return until a few days prior to Christmas. So it’s been a bit of a madhouse getting Christmas presents, decorations, housecleaning, laundry and packing done. I’m in much better shape today.
Waving ‘hi’ to all.

I didn’t know anything about Costco giving back checks. Nor Sam’s Club, which we are a member but don’t use real often. SO joined for the gas while traveling down here. We’re also BJ’s member and after spending $X you receive at the register the option to use $10 off; used to be with a higher level of spending you’d get $20 off. You can save them up to use later. But it’s nice when you run in and it comes up with “would you like to use your $10 savings?” BJ’s is also great for gas. They offer gas items - where if you buy xyz you get an additional .10 cents off per gallon; we use their credit card which also gives .10 cents per gallon off of the regular price. We think we make out good.
I put the curbside lamps in my living room after confirming they worked. The old one was a 3 way switch but quit working as 3 way. It’s nice to have that back. I’m not in “love” with the actual lamp but will keep using them until I tire of them. Old ones will be stored in the garage- I can always go back to them.
Old, then new to me:
We’re headed to the sand sculpture event on Fort Myers beach today. Meeting up with SIL & BIL to check it all out, then going out to dinner with them. I’ll get some pictures.1 -
cindyny, I like them. I asked DH and he says that your old 3 way lamp, just needs a new 3 way bulb. He says it is the bulb that is the issue, not the lamp. Give it a try. You could also spray paint the new finds, if you want them a different color.
carole, 3 carts is our norm when we are buying bulk items like kitty litter, paper towels and toilet paper and DS joins us. However, yesterday was a relatively cheap day, only because DS needed just a few items. I have the higher level membership which I share with him so he can make runs for us when the weather is bad. Normally I get a slice of their pizza for lunch because it is so good, but DS wanted Chik-Fil-A and until we got one the next town over, it was the only place we could get it. It's adjacent to the Costco so he ran in rather than sit in the drive through line. I have their mac'n cheese which I will heat up for lunch today.
Had to go to CVS to pick-up prescriptions and for once I reached catastrophic level this year and haven't paid for any for the past 3 months. I had to reach out to PCP to change dosage for another and hope she can order it on Monday so I can pick it up next week.
It is another gloomy day though they say the sun will break through. However, I think the sun is losing the battle here. It's low 50's, but due to overnight rain, it is damp and still bone chilling.
Tomorrow night is sleep study and I've had no response to my emails about the test. I guess I'll get them tomorrow night. I don't sleep well in strange beds, so this may be a non-event for the diagnostic tests if I can't sleep or toss and turn all night. Just want to get it over with and move on. I appreciate that this NP is trying to discover why I desaturate at night, however this has been occurring for years. She's new to the practice and is doing due diligence since I had a big problem after my left knee replacement. Glad she is making the effort to solve this because it could lead to cardiac issues. I find that so many medical issues nowadays are attributed to "age," whether this is true or not.
Hope everyone has a great day and waving "hi" to everyone.

Interesting ear piercing stories. Ken did mine while he was in medical school, don't remember which year but he took me someplace at the college where he could get sterile equipment. Betrayal, will be interested in your plastic surgeon experience. Mine are in great need of repair. Ken used to do it in his office but when I went to a GS here, they said I need a plastic surgeon and I never followed up. Do you mind if I ask whether insurance covers it? I'd have to sleep in a chair because I'm definitely not a back sleeper.
I felt I didn't sleep well when I had a sleep study either but it was enough evidently. Thankfully I found when I lost 30 lbs. I no longer needed a C-pap. Great news because the mask really made me claustrophobic. I certainly would be in line for Inspire which wasn't an option 15 years ago.
Our grocery stores here had a real race to the bottom as far as turkey prices went so I was able to get several (without a minimum purchase which is what they have done in the past). Also got some lovely-looking boned turkey breasts at what I thought was a great price. Many of our clients are seniors and don't want a 15 lb. bird. Our give-away starts Monday and it will be a zoo. They have started giving clients assigned times to come and that has helped. Non-clients are invited to come on Wednesday if they have anything left. So sad that many are going hungry while we build a golden ballroom.
Harley - somehow I missed your trip. Have a wonderful time. Travel all you can while you can. We did and there wasn't much left on our bucket list when we had to quit.
We're having Thanksgiving at friends. All we have been assigned is a pecan pie and a family favorite corn casserole. I think Larry will have enough food for twice as many as are going - another sad waste in MHO.
Thanksgiving was one of my favorite holidays growing up. All the relatives gathered at my aunt's farmhouse and the cousins had a slumber party. They had a big room with multiple beds which I suspect at one point was used by workers who came during harvest but by the time we went there, my uncle was mainly a pig farmer.
Have a wonderful weekend and holiday week. Hope all your football teams win but I sincerely doubt mine will.

I had a sleep study done a year ago. I thought it wouldn't work as I don't sleep well but surprisingly I did fine—or at least good enough they were able to get sufficient data. I forced myself to lie very still and eventually fell asleep. I even had to get up once and it all worked out fine. They discovered I did not have apnea so I things went on the same for me.
My sister-in-law is cooking Thanksgiving dinner this year and says not to bring anything unless my family wants something special. She has cooked in years past and does a good job although my DH and DD prefer my stuffing. My BIL is pre-diabetic so she cooks for him but also includes a sugar version of her salad for us. It will be fine. She knows my limitations and is very helpful to me. We actually lived with them for three months when we first moved here until we were able to find a house. I have the fixings that I can do a small version of a traditional dinner for the four of us later if we want. I would really like to bring something and need to think more about it.

Taco, insurance did not cover my ear lobe repairs. I scheduled it after my cruise in order to decide if the cost was worth it, and when I found that some expensive earrings were not displayed well due to left ear tear and asymmetry, that was the deciding factor. The plastic disks didn't help much and the droop was noticeable. It was an office procedure, so no anesthesia bill. Took less than an hour to do both and he did a good job with local anesthesia. It didn't wear off until hours later.
When I was in my 20's two of my brothers were in the military at Thanksgiving and unable to get leave because they were stationed more than 200 miles from home. That was the rule then. My mother was upset that it meant just my youngest brother and I would join them. We lived near Fort Dix, and they put out a request for families willing to offer a meal to servicemen. The first year we had 6 guys join us and they had a bus to and from a local stop. If they wanted to take the bus back, they had to be at the stop at 6 pm. If they could get a ride back, their curfew was 9 pm. None elected to go back to base early and they left with a turkey sandwich and a slice of pie packed by my mother. They helped with dishes and it wa so much fun my mother did this for several more years. We had guys from all over the US and Puerto Rico. None ever elected for an early return to base. This stopped when the 200 mile rule was dropped.
We had several Thanksgivings when foreign students of my DH had no place to go. So we invited them here. We learned that China and South Korea had harvest festivals similar to our Thanksgiving, even if the foods were dissimilar. I can remember trying to explain what mincemeat pie was to them, finally telling them to just try it and if they didn't like it, to just spit it into their napkins. None ever did. I would give them the Hefty plates that had multiple sections and let them make a take home platter for another meal. The Chinese girl said she couldn't do that because she was concerned her roommate would eat it. So I had her pack one for her as well. Given a choice of pies to take home, she opted for the mince meat, much to my surprise. We did this for several years and always enjoyed having them. The Chinese girl came more than once, and I was amazed at how much an 85 lb. girl could eat. She always volunteered to help clean up, too.
I'll let you know how the sleep study goes. I am taking my own pillow because hospital pillows are just awful. They demand you wear pajamas and I haven't owned a pair in more than 50 years, so it will be yoga pants and a tee for me. I hope I get some answers that will be diagnostic and that don't require too many changes for me. Fingers crossed since I would never be able to tolerate a face mask.

All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible.

I think I started to post last night but my eyes were tired and I never finished the post.
It was 85 near home but over at the beach there was a beautiful breeze coming off the gulf. Still sweaty though.
We went to a demonstration on how to make a sand sculpture. Super informative and I’d like to try something on a smaller scale once my grandniece is here.
Then there was a competition they call “quick sand” - 2 compete to sculpt the same thing within 10 minutes. Totally enjoyed it.We took the bus/trolly back to the park & ride but we got to watch the sunset before the bus picked us up.
2 -
Part 2 - we left the park and ride and headed to a new restaurant. The meal was delicious. I had chicken parm, SO had a New Orleans chicken dish. We were stuffed so opted to skip dessert.
I had leftovers to put in the car and then we were stopping at Publix - in the same strip mall. First said we’d walk, but it was far enough that I said let’s just drive over there. The car was dead, lights an off yellow color, it would not turn over. We called AAA and waited 2 hours in the parking lot for them to show up.
My first thoughts were I was glad we weren’t in NY freezing. It was warm enough to stand outside of the car.
Directly across from us was a coffee house type place where they had many people taking to an open mike to sing. We heard everything under the sun - from those that could play but not sing, to theater singers belting out Phantom of the Opera. It had us giggle at times, but it definitely helped pass the time.
We had a female AAA person who does just battery jumps and sales. She was able to jump it, and said we’d make it home but don’t turn it off. She didn’t have my size battery but had she it would have been $239, or a higher charge one for $289.
I drove home like the wind. No AC on, no radio, and my dashboard was sort of light low. We made it, pulled in our driveway, got everything out that we needed out, before turning it off.
We ran to Sam’s club this afternoon and bought a battery for $139. They take the old one and charge you $20, but then credited us the $20 - we don’t know why and I hushed SO from asking why.
We came home and installed the new battery. A neighbor came over and sprayed the terminals with silicone. Car started right up, interior lights nice and bright.
That’s my two day long story. It’s already getting dark. I wanted to run to 2 more stores and still might go, in the 2019 Impala.
I hope your last 2 days were less eventful than mine. I have a doctors appointment tomorrow morning for a wellness check. Then we’re off to realtors office to pick up a pie. They have events yearly, and around Thanksgiving they hold a “Pie Palooza” event - giving away your choice of pies. Never have heard of a real estate company being so invested in past clients - we bought 10 years ago! That’s it for me. Hope you had a great Sunday.

Cindy, so what happened to the leftovers?
ETA, the sand sculptures are beautiful. I am sure you chose the best.

I am thankful the most important key in history was invented. It's not the key to your house, your car, your boat, your safety deposit box, your bike lock or your private community. It's the key to order, sanity, and peace of mind. The key is 'Delete.'
2 -
Wow, Cindy. Never a boring moment in your life! LOL. The sand sculptures are cool.
Today I have to pack for the trip to FL (Jacksonville area) to dh's nephew's house for Thanksgiving. We're making it a two-day drive to avoid arriving overtired on Thursday. Jacksonville's weather is similar to ours, only a day later. It's looking like Thanksgiving weather will be cool, which suits me.
It will be interesting to see what Thanksgiving dinner will be. Our hostess, Angie, doesn't cook the meal. One year when they lived in IL, they hired a chef to come to their house. That was really fun to experience and the food was delicious. Last year they served a meal from Whole Foods, which was very good. It took some time to heat all the dishes that needed to be warmed. They ordered too much food, and I don't doubt that a lot of leftovers were discarded. They eat a mainly vegetarian diet.
Another year when we were not guests, they ordered a catered meal from a restaurant that they patronized. When they went to pick up the meal, they saw that the restaurant was in flames.
Happy Monday to everyone.

cindyny, loved the sand sculptures and the photos of the sunset. My DSIL when she is at their FL home takes sunset photos and sends them in to a weather man at a local TV station. She has had several presented on the show. Glad you were able to make it home, and to replace the battery the next day for a more acceptable cost.
carole, I can't wait to hear what is served for your Thanksgiving dinner this year, and who provides it. The story about the restaurant being in flames when they arrived was sad. What did they do for a meal? I find it interesting that while they are vegans, they provide a meal that isn't.
Sleep study was interesting. I had a spiders web of electrodes applied to my legs, my chest, my chin, my eyes and my head. Also had a belt around my chest and my abdomen. Shocked myself when I went to the bathroom after their application and looked in the mirror with the electrode box loope around my neck on a lanyard. Not an attractive look for sure. Tech was very thorough in explaining what she was recording and why. She started me out wearing my normal sleep apnea equipment with the caveat it could be changed based on what she was seeing on the recordings.
Had a pulse oximeter on my left ring finger because I had to sleep on side of bed closest to a nightstand containing the electrode recorder box and the CPAP machine. Tech told me that arthritic fingers should not be measured for pulse oximeter reading and yet, whenever I go to a medical appointment they use them. Said that this can reflect low readings which are false. So in the future, I will insist they use my straightest fingers. I know that cold fingers can give false readings, too.
She did change my equipment out for another type, monitored me and came in to make another change of equipment. The latter gave better results even though it required some adaptation on my part. I will say, for it being a sleep study, you really do not get much sleep, lol. She woke me at least 6 times for tweaking, and then I had a potty break, so another interruption. At 5:30, the waste disposal company showed up to empty dumpsters located near the building. I was scheduled to be awakened at 6, because I needed to complete some forms and leave by 6:45, so they could clean the room. So when I did get to sleep, it was good, but I wish I could have slept straight through. I won't get results for at least 2 weeks according to the tech and they cannot provide any info about what they saw. I did get sent home with the last face mask she used and was told to use it in the interim. She also gave me information on one she thinks will provide better comfort.
Attempting to get a good seal, resulted in a red mark on the bridge of my nose which persisted for over an hour. I am concerned that this will continue because when I broke my nose, it went undiagnosed (did seek medical help, but told that because it didn't bleed, it wasn't broken). By the time the swelling receded, It was healed, but with a deviated septum that meant I could not breathe out of one side of my nose. So I had to have it rebroken to reset it, but now have a nasal bridge that is not symmetric so getting a seal is difficult. I am concerned that this skin will break down due to the excessive pressure from the mask. I'll talk to the NP and see what she has to offer.
Surprisingly, the bed was very comfortable, unlike most hospital beds that are not. Unfortunately, I was unable to raise the head of the bed like I can at home. I still cannot sleep on my sides due to tender ear lobes. Wonder what impact side sleeping would have had on the results? Side sleeping is recommended.
Hope everyone had a great day. It was cold here with temps below 50 all day and filtered sun. Waving "hi" to everyone.

Chris, the leftovers made it home and were consumed by my SO for lunch the next day.
Carole, I’m interested in what this years Thanksgiving gathering turns out to be.
Betrayal, sounds like you did ok with the sleep study.New doctor appointment went well. She’s scheduled a video call in December after I’ve had all my bloodwork done. Tomorrow I’ll call Labcorp for an appointment to get the bloodwork done.
We were having a driveway gathering tonight at a gf house up the street. I thought I’d bring a pitcher of Blue Lagoon drinks. Well first I go to make myself a drink and found I never turned our ice maker back on. I had to go next door for a cup of ice. Then the vodka had only enough for one drink, and the same pretty much goes for the Blue Curaçao - maybe enough for 2 drinks.
Pie Palooza was fun as always. Pecan pie awaits us.
2 -
Cindy - you have a very committed realtor. Bet you've sent her clients over the years and she will get your business when you leave.
Great sand pictures.
We never invited military folks for Thanksgiving but we always had an open house Christmas Eve when Ken was in the service.
A week of rain - the sun has spoiled me. I was really dragging today from the dreary skies but met a friend for lunch. It was a comfortable temp to sit outside with our sandwiches. Golf should be good for the rest of the week too.

Up super late (what else is new)? McCartney was great—played for 3 hrs, no opener or intermission. A tad weak on the high notes, but at 83, that's to be expected. Got some new "Loop" earplugs that look like little earrings when you first put them in; when the music is about to start, you twist them. Amazingly clear sound, no distortion. When I removed them after the show, there was none of the usual temporary ringing (or in my case, increase in my preexisting tinnitus). Considering the pyrotechnics in "Live & Let Die" and the extreme volume of "Helter Skelter," that's impressive. After dropping Gordy off at his new building, I didn't get home till after midnight.
Discovered that Bob had eaten but didn't feed the cats or scoop the litter before he turned in (has to be at work 7:30am on Tuesdays), so I had to do that. All I'd had to eat before the concert were a couple of eggs and an oat milk cappuccino for breakfast; at the United Center around 7:30 we had hot dogs Chicago style, aka "dragged through the garden." In the 47 years I've lived here I'd never had one before! (As an ex-NY-er, I'm a purist—if I can't get brown mustard & sauerkraut I usually order just mustard). Messy and just filling enough to keep my blood sugar up. After taking care of the kitties I nuked some leftover shrimp jap chae from the pan-Asian place around the corner. (One order of the stuff lasts me at least 3 meals).
Reluctantly paid a speed-camera ticket (31 in a 25mph zone—no signage but 25 is the default). I'd considered contesting it: the time stamp was inaccurate, as at that time on that day I was already down in Lincoln Park getting my mani-pedi. Then I realized it was my HK driving my car to pick me up from the salon—and as she'd moved to B'ham months before the city put in a speed camera up here, she didn't know and I'd failed to warn her. The $35 isn't going to break me. But the figuring it all out and then paying it online ate up an hour—and it took quite awhile for me to replace the cracked screen protector on my phone. (I'd always had the store do it but I bought this one at Target, which doesn't install them). Then I had to load the dishwasher, which is like playing a cross between Tetris & Jenga. (Nobody else knows how, so they just put the dishes in the sink and it's up to me to make it all fit). Took my night meds—but the water in my Stanley cup tasted "off," so I had to dump it out and sterilize it.
Tonight was supposed to be my weekly Zepbound-shot night, but I'll wait till tomorrow night. That'll make 8 rather than 7 days; I may be able to cut back to every 10 days since I'm maintaining nicely. (It would also save a little money).
So that's how I got to 3:50am. And so to bed.

If you really want to make a friend, go to someone's house and eat with him... the people who give you their food give you their heart.

No sooner did I finish my post last night, than the sleep study report showed up in my portal. I know I have OSA and have been using an APAP machine for years. Results were not unexpected, since it confirmed NP's concerns that I do become hypoxemic during sleep. The initial study in September showed that my pulse oximeter readings dipped into the 80's (norm 90 and above) while I slept. I am glad that she ordered additional study, but now am concerned about what else I will need to have done, or will I be referred to other physicians for follow-up? I would just like to get one positive report that all is well, and next week is my mammogram, which I am dreading after last year's debacle. This is a lousy time of year to try to have anything done with the approaching holidays.
The office called today and I was able to get an appointment for next Tuesday afternoon to review results and to see what she feels is a necessary intervention. My biggest concern is how this will impact my vacation plans for the spring and next fall. We'll see what she has to say then.
I feel a lot of this dates back to when I had my hernia repair and had a disastrous outcome with time spent in an NCICU post-op, and 4 months of at home recovery. The knee surgeries may have exacerbated it. I had a fluid overload after hernia surgery, and then again after left knee surgery. I needed transfusions after the hernia and spent New Year's in ICU being short of breath because hemoglobin was only 8 (up from 6). Hgb on discharge on 1/4 was barely over 9.
After left knee, again I had a fluid overload due to them trying to raise BP using lots of IV fluids. Spent 5 days in the hospital then, on oxygen and hemoglobin was barely 11 at discharge. Recovery was slower and I did have shortness of breath for several weeks after surgery.
I realize now that the surgeons were not concerned about these hiccups, because they were not surgical issues, even though they were post-op findings. I did see my cardiologist for the abnormal echo, but the next one was fine and she did order the cardiac CT study before my left knee surgery.
I am glad the NP read my left knee hospital records and decided I needed more pulmonary intervention based on these. So while I am distressed, I am also thankful that she is on the ball. I guess the concern is, is she too late because non-recoverable damage has already occurred? I have no daytime issues and do not have any daytime symptoms from OSA.
Taco, hope you get some sun soon. It has been relatively gloomy here with overcast skies and drizzle, so I hear you. It does have an impact on my mood.
Sandy, sorry your Housekeeper was the one who got the ticket, but that is not much of a fine. Our baseline fee for any fine is higher than that. DH will forget to feed Leo who likes room service for his meals. He's older, spooky and set in his ways. He will drift downstairs on his terms.
I hate Fedex deliveries. They employ the laziest drivers. I had an order coming from Amazon that they claimed they could not find my house the first attempt. On the second, I told them to leave package at garage door and last night we received a message that it wad been delivered and it "was in a secure location". So DH and I checked the garage door, the front door and the back door twice and came up empty. This morning, DH finds the package at our roadside mailbox, which is far from secure because it is over 100 feet from the house on a somewhat busy road. Right next to it is the Balsam Hill Christmas tree I ordered. They tried to deliver it 2 days ago and when the guy arrived at the top of the driveway, he finds it is not on the truck! He said he would be back. No notice from them it had been delivered, but it too, was at the mailbox. I haven't seen the box to see if it disclosed contents, but glad he left early today to take dog for her walk and then to the Acme where they were accepting turkey donations. Otherwise, we might not have gotten either package. Now that the turkeys are gone I have room in both freezers. I will rearrange them now, since they were hastily filled.
Spent today consulting Dr. Google about test results, so I can understand the report, and formulate questions about the results. A lot to digest and learn about. Not in the mood for much else.
Hope everyone had a great day and waving "hi" to everyone.

Taco, we’d definitely use this realtor again. Family run, and super nice too.
Sandy, I had a ticket on the way north last May, in an unmarked school zone in Virginia. I think it was $100 + a $5 processing fee. Glad you enjoyed the concert with your son.
Betrayal, I don’t know much of anything on sleep studies. Your deliveries being left next to a mailbox away from your home is ridiculous, especially after giving directions to put in front of the garage.
I pumped up my bike tires this afternoon and got in a ride. I couldn’t get my Fitbit to switch exercises to biking so I just left, felt I was wasting time and motivation to get moving. Estimate 1 mile to just over. I came in and put the ceiling fans on to cool me off. While on the bike the breeze felt fine, but once I stopped it hits you how hot it is.
We should be getting some cooler weather on Thursday & Friday which I look forward to. It will help me get out moving about.
I set up my bloodwork at LabCorp for Friday at a lab 10 miles away. It was the only option as most had nothing available until after my 12/13 follow up. Plus, it’s at 8:15 on Black Friday, UGH. I’ll be getting up at 7 to dress, wash my face & brush my teeth - fasting required, so I’ll hit the road asap.
I went through paperwork and then shredded what I could get rid of. Looking for something, filing away other things, I figured trash what I can. It was a pretty quiet day.
Funny thing - a gf called just after 8, and we didn’t hang up until after 9. I then went to the garage to close the door. It was already closed. I asked SO if he closed it; nope. I asked a gf if she closed it - she walks her dog and has my code; nope. I looked at my phone and saw a notice from the garage opener app- it said it was closed at 9. It was then that I remembered a gf had showed me how to set it so if you forget it will close itself. Not being here for 6 months there is obviously a lot I don’t remember.
Tomorrow we start peeling potatoes for the Thanksgiving gathering. The sweets I’m just going to scrub well, cut off the ends and chop them into pieces - boil with the skins on.
Last minute I ordered gifts fur GS birthday. He’ll be 8, and his parents set up a wish list on Amazon. I get the benefit of their early black Friday sales. Gifts he wants and on sale, it’s a win win.
I’m headed to bed. I hope we all have a good day tomorrow!

Thanksgiving is really a holiday that allows us all, if only for a day, to stop what we're doing and consider the wonderful people in our lives and the opportunities we have, and have had.

Happy thanksgiving to one and all. I will be making candied sweet potatoes, charcuterie board, and pineapple casserole as my contribution to DS's dinner today. It should be a fun day with the whole family there.
DH and DSIL worked in attic yesterday to lay boards so they could access the controller that needed to be replaced. It controls the pot lights above my bed and it has been "iffy" for months. DH is a procrastinator and uses weather frequently as his excuse to delay working. First it was "too hot" up there and then he was trying the I have leaves to get up. Well, the leaves were wet from rain and were going nowhere, so I put my foot down because his next excuse would be that it is too cold to work up there. So I call him my seasonal procrastinator. They replaced the controller, so last night I was actually able to read in bed and then just switch out the lights using the control panel next to my bed, rather than using a flashlight as I have been doing. DH wanted to install these controllers for all our switches and while I do like them, when the controller blows, he complains because some are not easily accessible. You'd have thought he would have worked that out when he installed them? The advantage is I can control multiple lighting zones from one switch plate with buttons, rather than a bank of individual switches.
Hope everyone has a wonderful day. It will be crisp and cold here. Finally the sun is trying to peak through, but it feels like the 30's with breezes to really pick up later. Waving "hi" to everyone.

My alarm clock for HOH people has a light bar on top, so I can use that. I have too many sleep problems to use my bedroom for much more than sleeping and getting dressed.
I am SOOO thankful. A year ago, I gave Tippy a bath, and after doing his zoomies, he sat howling like a dying wolf for about five minutes. It was quite cold and dry, and I decided it was triggering arthritic pain. I decided then that we needed buttons, so I bought them for Christmas. I have been giving him aspirin ever since. He has been complaining about pain a lot. Then I thought it was a tooth. So, about a week ago I gave him some tuna loaf crusted on aluminum. I realized then that he was eating some foil, so I gave him some laxative to make sure it did not settle in his innards. Day before yesterday he pooped out a needle with a bit of sewing thread at the end. He must have rolled on the carpet, and the needle had stabbed him. Then it migrated into his digestive tract. It could have gone into other places, too, and killed him.
I no longer have to wear that hard plastic brace. Freedom! I still have exercises to do, though. And food to cook, and all sorts of stuff.

Betrayal, my DH has gone Alexa crazy. Most of our lights are now on Alexa so we just tell it what to turn on/off and when. I think he is bored in his retirement and it gives him a purpose lol. He has added our Christmas lights too both inside and out. Crazy. I am old school and would be happy with just a switch.
My sweet SIL is cooking Thanksgiving dinner. I feel so worthless today!

AAA Light! You have paid your dues. Enjoy, and be grateful that you have family willing to do the cooking.

I hope all of us in the US had a happy Thanksgiving.
We gathered with our neighbors and had a great feast. I’m overstuffed.
Fasting for bloodwork tomorrow morning. I hope all this food in me doesn’t throw off results. We’ll see.2
