I did get out for my walk. The less humid weather made walking a pleasure. My circuit through a nice subdivision down the street is about 2 miles. I used to walk it much faster. There's a second subdivision off our street/road, but it's gated. I walked it during the several years when the houses were being built. Then they locked me out. LOL.

Our dinner was good. We shared the ribeye slices and each of us had half a baked sweet potato. I skipped the salad I had thought I would make.

DH made oatmeal cookies with bitter-sweet dark chocolate chips and chopped pecans to take to FL for Thanksgiving. I couldn't resist eating several of them. They're very good. I'll try to resist today.

Eric, some details on ingredients for the carrot salad?

Hi all, your meals sound yummy ! Been doing quick and easy.. finished up the last of the CSA produce with roasted vegies, lentils and cous cous. Made a quick bread with banana and apple sauce, and threw in come cacoa, was interesting. Delicious with butter … but what’s not?

Thanksgiving quick reheating question - we are ordering in a traditional meal on Thursday and will need to reheat it all in the oven on Saturday for company. How do you reheat it - Turkey, mashed potatoes , stuffing) - in a roasting pan, separate pans, all together one at a time ? I’m new to this oven reheating as we usually eat up what we have or micro wave the next day, and could use your experienced advice… ❤️

Carole, Those cookies sound delicious. I don't bake much anymore since I'd end up eating more than I should. Are you going to make the trip to FL in one day?

Rhonda, You can do everything in the oven but with different temperatures and one oven you can reheat the turkey in the oven and the mashed potatoes/stuffing on the stove top.

Turkey: Let the turkey come to room temp and preheat oven to 325. For a whole turkey (or breast) put in a roasting pan with a cup of chicken broth and cover tightly with foil. Cook 5 - 7 min per lb, 165 on meat thermometer. For slices or small pieces put in a glass/ceramic baking dish in a single layer and sprinkle with chicken broth. Cover with foil and bake 20 - 30 min or 10 - 13 min per pound for larger pieces (165 on meat thermometer.)

Mashed potatoes: Use a double boiler or heatproof bowl over a pan of simmering water. Add a bit of milk/cream and a pat of butter to keep them moist. Stir a few times but not too often.

Stuffing: Add a little oil or butter to a frying pan. Cook over medium heat for about five minutes until heated thoroughly. You can add a bit of broth and heat it on medium in the microwave for short bursts stirring it each time. It won’t be crispy but that’s actually how I prefer mine.

We used to pack up the car and transport Thanksgiving dinner two hours to my mother’s house. It seemed inconvenient at the time but I’d love to be able to do it again. I hope you have a wonderful time with your guests.

Dinner tonight was meatballs in my own sauce on bucatini.

Maggie you are the best! Thank you so much, reheating is clearly an art form . Much appreciated. ❤️

I like that.. I'm going to be making a pumpkin pie, probably today.

I need to get Sharon to get out the recipe for the carrot salad so I can put it out on here.

Minus, LOL. Great advice for any delicious dessert. IMO pumpkin pie counts as a vegetable serving.

Dinner tonight was a TexMex dish made with chicken, tomatoes, chilliest, corn and bell peppers on Spanish rice.

Leftover caramelized onions with garden green beans, leftover canned baked beans and scrambled eggs with melted cheddar.

My dental cleaning went well…no issues and 9 months for the next. Wish I could share my good dental fortune with my sweetheart.

Wallycat, I had a dental cleaning today also. No issues for me either. 😁

We had a big lunch after the dental appointment, so dinner was cereal.

Intolight, YAY for a good medical procedure. I treasure them these days. I asked my dentist if she knew of any clinical trials for my DH and his jaw necrosis, but she did not. Watched a Japanese station that discussed some new dental advances on the horizon. Wish they'd hurry; maybe we can move to Japan for a time.

Wally and Intolight, Congrats on the good dental evaluations. My oral surgeon has replaced necrotic/infected jaw bone by taking bone from the fibula but said he wouldn’t risk it in someone over 70 due to possible healing problems. In clinical trials in Japan they are adding titanium mesh and regenerated cartilage to overcome this issue. Some of these new developments don’t happen fast enough.

Dinner tonight was Tuscan garlic shrimp on capatavi.

Maggie, the new clinical trials in Japan are working with stem cells. Not only for bone rebuilding in the jaw but also to repair dentin and enamel on the teeth. Their new treatment for infections (perio) are peroxide with blue light and the results are nothing short of a miracle. Aside from my DH being over 70, he has bone mets, which would exclude him, for sure.

Nacho refried beans tonight. Turkey drumsticks for tomorrow.

    Happy Thanksgiving.

Dinner tonight was turkey, roasted butternut squash, creamed onions, mashed potatoes and stuffing. It’s way too much for two people but with turkey at $.48 a pound it was a bargain. I’ll freeze some of the leftovers.

    Happy Thanksgiving to all.

I made turkey drumsticks, creamed spinach and corn (as the bed for the turkey drumsticks)…the melted garlic and butter, caramelized the corn and made it super yummy. Leftovers tomorrow. our drumsticks were 2.50/pound..wish they had had thighs.

Maggie thank you for the shout out. I've been reading but haven't had too many interesting meals to post.

I did make two pies and peanut butter chocolate chip brownies for Thanksgiving at my brother's today. We had 10 and since he has had multiple heart or chest surgeries since August it was great to be together with him well enough to participate.

Tried a new recipe for crispy roast potatoes. Boil potatoes (I used new) with baking soda. Drain but don't rinse. Roast in very hot oven (I used 450). You can toss with melted butter before roasting - and I did add some dill. They were good but not as crispy as I expected.

I've been eating leftovers from Guard & Grace with my son on Tuesday. Can't recommend that restaurant. Ex-DH of course had the 8 oz fillet. Lunch price was $110 - with NO other sides, not even bread. My salmon was OK but two pieces the size of silver dollars seemed exorbitant. Most annoying was the extreme noise - 4 story ceiling, hard floors and music that could only be classified as rap.

Purchased a pumpkin pie - Kroger brand - probably 9". I was surprised that it was $10.99 since last year was $6.99. So tomorrow will be pie for breakfast/lunch/dinner.

I did order some Royal Rivera pears from Pitman Davis. In my opinion, they are 100% better than all other pears. Originally these pears were only from Harry & David - their specialty,

Tomorrow will be Stove Top Stuffing with onions. Neglected to buy celery so…..

Wally, We could share a turkey since DH and I eat only the white meat. DS loves the thighs and drumsticks but it's been a few years since he was here for a turkey dinner.

Reader, Your desserts look delicious. I bought a mini apple pie from the farmstand across the river for DH since my hands were done in by peeling the boiling onions (but they're my favorite part of the dinner.) I'm glad your brother is doing better after his heart surgeries.

Minus, I’ll have to try the crispy potato recipe since DH really likes them. I’m glad you got to see your son even if the restaurant wasn’t so great. I’ve never had Royal Riviera pears but they sound like a real treat.

    Dinner tonight was Thanksgiving redux.

We had two sets of friends over on Friday for a late Thanksgiving dinner. Turkey, mashed potato, gravy, squash, glazed carrots, sourdough dinner rolls, fruit salad, stuffing and pumpkin pie….I think that's it.

In the garage, I wired an electrical outlet for the electric stove that had been in the kitchen before we got the propane stove. Having two ovens is a good thing.

The two sets of friends were "the retired vet" and his wife, and a friend since 1986, her husband and their 22 year old son.

Both dogs were very carefully guarding the kitchen oven (the one with the turkey) and were very much hoping I'd drop the turkey pan on the floor. :-)

Waking up in your own bed in your own house is priceless. No conversation required.

We arrived home yesterday about 3:30 pm. Traffic was so heavy that it came to a halt a couple of times on I-10. We were fortunate with the weather going and returning.

Dinner was the 2nd Costco eggplant casserole in the freezer. Also a romaine salad. We both thought the eggplant dish was better than the first time. It was convenient having it in the freezer. I'll probably buy a replacement box of two casseroles when I go to Costco.

Thanksgiving dinner was catered by Whole Foods and, once again, the sides were excellent. Herb stuffing/dressing, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, cauliflower and broccoli cheesy casserole. I had a small piece of dark meat turkey but skipped over the baked ham. We could have used your 2nd oven, Eric. Two slow cookers warmed up the mashed potatoes and stuffing. Another Thanksgiving in the record book. Surviving turkeys can relax.

I made bison ribeye last night (bought 3 …big sale) and will slice the last one with eggs and not sure what other side for tonight.

Tomorrow, we head to Edmonds. The scan is an hour later which means, coming home will be dark and rush hour.

Carole, I'll have to look for the eggplant casserole at costco.

Eric, How helpful to have two working ovens for a large dinner. I hope the oven guard dogs got a treat for their vigilance. I also hope Sharon is compensated with something to eat.

Carole, I'm glad you made it home safely. Whole Foods is usually a reliable source of catered food. In Boston we take out our breakfast from there. The eggplant casserole sounds like a great emergency dinner.

Wally, Stay safe driving in the dark and traffic. During the short winter days I'll drive to Boston early in the morning to get parking, hang out and read, then stay that night when I have a later afternoon appointment (like this Friday.)

Dinner last night started with taking a shoulder pork chop out of the freezer. At some time during the day, I decided to cut it into strips and make pork stir fry with soba noodles. The veggies were carrot, zucchini, and yellow bell pepper. I made my recipe for an Asian sauce. The results were a delicious meal. No leftovers.

Wally, is the bison ribeye meat tender? I'm imagining it as very lean.

Tonight's dinner will be catfish fillets. I'm shocked at the price, which has jumped from $5.99 or $6.99 per pound to $11.99 per pound. In the same category with Atlantic salmon. It's not wild-caught or imported, so tariffs can't be the reason for the jump.

    auntienance Posts: 4,036

Carole - catfish is 11.99 a pound here too. I was also shocked at the price. I can't imagine why it's so expensive.

Yesterday the kids came for a lunch of turkey sandwiches , French potato salad with green beans and mac and cheese. Dinner was onion soup.

Tonight is individual turkey pot pies made with the remains of the 14 pound turkey I made Friday. We will have gotten four or five meals from it which will have satisfied my turkey needs for another year.

Carole - I'd like to have your recipe for the Asian sauce for the stir fry if you are willing to share. I've tried a couple recipes, but nothing that really held my interest - and I make stir fry a lot.

Nance - Your comment about "satisfied my turkey needs" is spot on. I find that I really prefer chicken now & can take or leave turkey.

Last night was cottage cheese & tomatoes and two Hawaiian rolls. I need to get busy eating the pumpkin pie. Maybe for breakfast this morning?

Special K- hope you are OK and just busy. We miss you.

Carole, I think they put protein prices up when something seems too inexpensive. At Aldi the ground chicken which had been the best meat deal at $2.99 per pound is now almost the same as ground beef at $5.99. The tilapia price went way up close to that of salmon.

Minus, Pumpkin pie is a good meal any time of day.

Nance, Next turkey I'll have to make turkey pot pie with the leftovers. DH prefers it to chicken (my preference) so we'll have it again at Christmas.

The first big snow is on its way. Hopefully it will be "dry" enough for the snow blower to work.

Dinner tonight was shrimp sautéed in Old Bay seasoning in Alfredo sauce on noodles with a side of butternut squash.

I'm beyond envious of the snow-states. My sister sent me a text of her backyard (wisconsin)..drool.

We made it home, rain, dark and DH doing the driving. I'm grateful that the RAV beeps when he refuses to stay in his lane since my screaming at him did very little. OY. I was shocked how well I could see in the dark…usually, I can see nothing. Started a butt-load of supplements for high eye pressures so have no clue what is or isn't working and what the reasoning is.

Dinner was nothing much…The other half of an oscar meyer lunch meat beef sandwich (and I'll just say how hugely impressed I was with that lunch meat; first time to purchase) which was lunch.

The Asian markets in Edmonds are amazing. DH wanted to go to the new T&T grocery. WOWzers. Also managed a stop at Winco. Again, amazed at the price difference and quality in produce.

I did buy a "log" of ground turkey at Walmart my last time out there and it was 1.99/pound. No idea how good it will be since it is still in the freezer.

We missed both ferries coming and going, which added an extra 30 to 45 minutes each way.

Now we wait for his results. I'm glad I reminded him to mention the jaw so the tech tried to include that in the PSMA-pet scan.

Editing to add…Carole, the bison was beyond tender. I was surprised. There was some fat throughout but since it is grass fed, certainly nothing on the order of beef. I actually preferred the taste but would happily eat either.
