Badger: Sending another healing (((HUG))) to you.

M0mmy: That's nice that you have a state park so close to you. Enjoy it.

Ruth: Love the picture of the Running of the Pink. It's amazing your community holds the event. Stay safe tomorrow!

Late this afternoon I volunteered at our church's free clothing closet. I can't begin to tell you about all the clothes that people donate. We have to go through each bag (today someone brought 14 expandable bags stuffed FULL of clothes in addition to all the bags we haven't processed yet) and make decisions. You wouldn't believe the amount of clothes we don't use bc they are torn, stained, old, etc. Those clothes are brought to a place that recycles them. But then again, we get nice clothes and some still have the tags on them. Today we got several evening gowns. The majority of the people getting the clothes are unhoused or have very little resources. They don't need evening gowns.

I didn't exercise last week when the weather was great bc I was sick. Low humidity, low dew points. Well, now the weather has changed with high humidity, high dew points. I had planned to walk after volunteering but was too tired.

Oh no Badger, I'll keep you in my prayers as well. Our vision is so precious. Have the one eye good and healed before the next surgery for sure.

Well, I'm back from Vancouver and Alaska cruise…we had a great trip...our first real vacation in 6 years. We travel a lot for work and visiting with family, but haven't taken a vacay just ourselves somewhere special since March 2020. Crazy, need to be better about that! In typical fashion, we did the normal touristy things, but also visited the local town library in almost every town we went to! Funny, Anchorage downtown no longer has a library as everyone has moved to the outer suburbs, leaving downtown just businesses and tourist places…sort of sad.

Here are some pictures of glaciers and then us on June 5th in parkas at the Seward AK library the exterior tiles on the building are meant to look like fish scales!

Fantastic pictures, TT! As wonderful as it is to spend time with family, it's important to take some time away just for yourself.

HIT & Dance2fit this morning. I'm at the beautician's right now. Still expecting dicey weather this evening.

TT: So happy for you and dh to be able to finally get away together. What a fantastic trip to be your first one! Love the pictures of the glaciers, especially the last one. The library wall is amazing.

Went to crime club at lunch today. Little baby stayed with dd's friend for the afternoon so dh and I had some free time during the day. Dh worked in the yard and I cleaned the basement. We really know how to live it up lol.

I also was able to walk today. First time in awhile and felt good to be back at it.

Got to the gym Monday and today (Wed).

Monday was a new class - Yoga for Healthy Aging…horrible name but great class. It has a new instructor who is certified in "senior yoga" so she changed the name to its current one…but it is the same class as the old Strength and Core class taught by another instructor. I prefer Strength and Core to Healthy Aging😁…well of course I endorse healthy aging, but the name of the class makes me feel like I am taking a Silver Sneakers class at the Senior Center!

I hate 'old' tags too. I've seen advertisements for some boots that I might really like, but they're advertised for 'elderly feet'! Nope!

Here's the Wednesday Walking Women. I also spent an hour picking up branches from all over the yard.

Agree about the "old" tags being used for exercise as well as other classes. When I hear the word Senior, I don't think of older people. I think of Seniors in high school and college.

I walked this evening. It was hot but there was a nice breeze for half of it. It's supposed to be close to 100 degrees on Friday and I'm not looking forward to it!

Yesterday I went to Strength & Dance2fit & then DH went out to dinner to celebrate our 38th Anniversary. Wow, time flies!!

Mat Pilates this morning. I imagine there will be a dog walk in the afternoon & then a suprise party for a friend who's turning 70.

Happy Anniversary Ruth! Last weekend my DH and I celebrated 34 years💕

Got to the gym last night and today at lunch…that makes 4 times this week! Good to get back into the rhythm after a time away.

I'm not sure if the next item is sad, it feels more like relief…My tai chi teacher of the last 5 years appeared (as in his actions appeared) to have had a stroke or some other calamity after Christmas. Unsteady on his feet, couldn't keep sequences straight that he had been doing for decades, etc. etc. No local doctor could find anything wrong, but something was clearly wrong.

My teacher and his DW went to a major medical center earlier this week and he was diagnosed with parkinsonism (that right -ism) having the markers/traits of Parkinson's but not an official diagnosis.

Well the relief part of this is two fold.

    1. The specialist doctor said the best things he could do were diet and exercise - vigorous exercise. Well he is all over that and now stepping up with boxing and some specialist PT series called BIG.

    2. When my teacher asked about the jerking maneuvers of parkinsonism, the Dr said…well you are 80, at this rate you won't see that until you are 95! My friend (the wife in her 70's) said, we can definitely live with that!

So this is definitely serious, but also relief to have an answer and a long time horizon!

Happy weekend everyone, stay cool if you are able…we are not cool in SE VA 98 degrees plus heat index! TT

Happy 38th Anniversary Ruth! 43 for me this year. Hope the birthday girl doesn't know anything about her surprise party. I had a surprise baby shower when I was pregnant with DS. I had no idea it was planned until a relative told me she couldn't come to the shower. I was upset that she blew it for me bc the planners put a lot of work into it. I didn't let on that I knew and acted surprise. Did the best I could and they never knew that I knew in advance.

TT: So sorry about your tai chi. I'm sure he is relieved to have an answer to his unsteadiness. I've never heard of parkinsonism and it makes me wonder if more people have it but don't know it. Good for him and is wife to keep digging to find an answer. And to be told you won't see the jerking maneuvers until you're 95 is amazing!

    Badger: How are you doing?

Didn't walk today bc of the heat. But I did meet a friend for a refreshing milkshake.

You'all should come out here. It's 55 degrees here right now!

The birthday party was very fun, and it was a complete suprise to the BD girl; which is hard to pull off!

My old neighbor (of 30 years) who moved to Arizona, is back for the summer. Bruno & her dog were puppies together and played every day for the first 2 years of their lives. So we are very excited to have them back & already went for a walk this morning!

Ruth: I want your 55 degrees! Bruno looks so happy to be with his girlfriend. Glad the surprise party went off without a hitch.

The zucchini has started ripening. Yesterday I baked zucchini chocolate chip bread with the one that got away 😯😄 This is dh's arm.

    IMG_1814.jpeg

Cooked zucchini for dinner tonight with the regular size ones. Looks like we'll be eating a lot of fresh zucchini this summer and that's ok with me.

Walked this morning before it got too hot.

The zucchini are taking over the world!!! I remember a joke about people in a small town who only locked their cars during zucchini season because otherwise they'd come back to a car filled with zucchini!

I am hosting my Book Club for brunch tomorrow; so today I need to clean my house, make 2 kinds of muffins, an egg bake, a dessert & go get some fresh fruit. Depending on how much I get done, I hope to get to Yoga this afternoon.

Ruth: That joke is so true! You have a lot to do to get ready for your book club.

This afternoon dd and I attended the movie Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix while the musical score was performed live by the Greensboro Symphony. It's such an amazing experience. This is the 3rd Harry Potter movie we have seen with the Symphony and we have plans to attend next year's movie.

    Walked early this morning.

Oh, I love the symphony/movie combination, have been to several.

Got to the gym Sunday evening and today, Monday, at lunchtime. Found out last night that my favorite Thursday class is going off the schedule…will have to sort out something else for Thursday.

We…finally…got some rain last night that broke the heat dome, so today is just a regular summer day in Virginia😁

    That XL zucchini is crazy!

TT: Sorry about your Thursday class. Hopefully something good will fill it.

We also had rain last night which totally changed the weather for today. The dew point was 54 degrees compared to 72 degrees yesterday. Very pleasant.

Walked with a nice cool breeze.

Went to Tai Chi at lunchtime, the new instructor is giving us a workout, lots of pivots and lunges. TT
