We haven't had rain for weeks. Possibility of rain and storms in the forecast the next few days. The mention of large hail always brings dread.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Thirsty Thursday! I took Mom out to get her hearing aids cleaned and the programming tweaked a little yesterday. The usual guy we see wasn't there, the one we did see never did introduce himself, at least not that I heard. I overheard the receptionist tell another customer that the usual guy has retired. The new guy is nice and funny and seems to know his stuff, but I really feel that no introduction or explanation was a bit odd. I guess I'm getting so old that my social and professional expectations are outdated.

I hope everyone in the heat dome is doing ok and able to get some relief one way or another. I'm really glad Maine is getting left out of this one.

    Jazzy--that is an amazing picture!

    Minus--yup, scary!

Carole--I hope the rain that comes your way isn't drenching downpours like we've been getting. I much prefer a nice, gentle rain!

    Monsoon Ingredients

    1 1/4 oz light rum
4 oz sweet and sour mix
    1 oz pineapple juice
    1 oz passion-fruit juice
    3/4 oz Myer's® dark rum

    Monsoon Recipe Preparation & Instructions:
Pour all ingredients except myer's dark rum and stir in an ice-filled hurricane glass. Add dark rum at the top, mix and serve.

Native, I could use a day or two of a good soaking rain.

Woke up to news that my step-uncle had passed yesterday. I am shattered. We were more like siblings than uncle and niece.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Monday Monkey day! We woke up to rain and dense fog this ayem. It's not very hot but it sure is sticky and uncomfortable. The puppers kept their ayem outside run pretty short and came in panting to beat the band.

M0mmy--looks like we're going to get a bit of rain off and on all day today, possibly with a thunder bumper or two this afternoon. Wish I could share some of it with you!

Carole--wish I could send some rain your way, too!

    Jazzy--gorgeous sunset!

M0mmy---I am so sorry to hear of your step-uncle's passing. I hope it was peaceful and pain free. Hugs.

The rain you sent our way arrived last night, NM, and brought cool air with it. The weather today is more like MN than July was. Or more like our preferred version of MN weather. We may be having an old-fashioned cocktail tonight!

Mommy, my condolences on your loss.

mOmmy - I too am sorry for the loss of your step uncle.

Jazzy - love the sunset picture

NM - hope your Mother has adjusted to the new rooms. I'm thinking I should start picking where I want to go when I can no longer live in my own home.

As for drinking - I'm mostly sticking with gin & tonic. That is my summer drink & 101 degree heat certainly counts as summer. It's too hot to cook or eat. I'm still having a dram on Tuaca every night. Oops - that is an under count when I look at Webster "a unit of liquid capacity equal to ⅛ fluid ounce" . I'm having more like 1/4 of a cup pr 1.5 fluid ozs. But I like the term 'dram'.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Thirsty Thursday! Going to visit the mother this morning, we have a physical therapist coming in to see if there are any ways we can make getting in and out of the car and up and down steps easier for Mom. The steps are a particular issue, most of the places she wants to go are family homes and non-business location were ramps are kind of rare. Hopefully there are some trick and tips that will help.

M0mmy--hugs. Sudden loss is so hard to deal with.

    Morning, Carole, Jazzy!

Minus--Mom has adjusted pretty well to the new rooms. She still loves the ocean view and will sit and look out the window for a while every afternoon. I remember learning to convert drams, grains, and other old measures to more modern ones when calculating medication doses in nursing school. Havenig heard of drams or grains in ages and ages!

    Miriandra--great pic!

    Allspice Dram

    Software
    • 1/2 cup allspice berries
    • 2 1/2 cups navy-strength rum
    • 1 cup sugar

    Specialized Hardware
    • quart-sized glass jar
    • Fine-mesh sieve

    Procedure
    • Heat a heavy skillet over low heat for 2 to 3 minutes. Toast the allspice berries until fragrant, about 1 minute, then roughly crush.
    • Combine the rum and crushed allspice berries in a quart-sized glass jar, seal the lid tightly and give it a good shake. Steep for 10 days.
    • Strain the allspice-infused rum through a fine-mesh sieve into a small saucepan and add the sugar. Heat over low, stirring occasionally, until the sugar is fully dissolved, about 15 minutes. Cool to room temperature before storing in a glass jar or bottle.

Sorry I havent been on since my step-uncle passed, but on the heels of this, I got news that one of my cousins on my mom's side is not doing very well and looks to be on borrowed time. I havent been to see her as I want her to have as much time with her family as possible, I get updates from my aunt through my mom. Just feeling so gut punched that another family member is not doing well.

Apparently I didn't hit "Post Comment" yesterday!

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Hump Day! I didn't realize it has been so long since I'd posted here. I think about everyone every day and I guess my mind turned that into thinking I had posted. Things are going pretty well here except for being uncomfortably hot, which makes me very lazy.

Mom's Physical Therapy session went really well Monday. It turned out that the cushion she has been using so she sits high enough to see out the windshield well was creating problems with her getting in and out of the car. So the cushion is relegated to the back seat. (It's actually a blanket that folds up into a cushion, and it lives in the car in case a blanket or pillow is needed.). Then it turned out that Mom's sideways approach to going up and down stairs is actually a good one, as long as we keep reminding her to leave room for both feet on the next step. The sideways approach lets her keep both hands on the same railing, and gives her more time to catch herself if she loses her balance, and increases the chances she will just sit down on the current step rather than fall down several steps if she doesn't catch herself. The PT is going to work with Mom on strengthening her legs a bit to help with getting in and out of chairs and walking in general.

Morning, Minus! Sorry to worry you, just being lazy in the heat, I guess.

mOmmy--I am so sorry to hear about your cousin not doing well. Getting that news about another family member so soon after a loss is so hard to manage.
