New here, palb2
this is my first post here so forgive me if I’ve put this in the wrong forum. I am 44 years old, and my mom was diagnosed with stage 3b ILC 5 years ago. Because it was lobular they did the genetic testing and she had a palb2 mutation. She is doing great now which really was pretty miraculous. Anyway, I waited a year or two after she was diagnosed and got tested and also have the mutation. I have very dense breasts, and have fibrosystic changes, whatever than means, as well as needle biopsies years before she was diagnosed. All normal but I guess they were concerned. Anyway, fast forward, I’ve been getting the advanced screening with MRi’s for 2 years and thankfully all has been normal but I started thinking that I wanna eliminate some of this anxiety and fear. I’ve met with my breast surgeon. I meet with a cosmetic surgeon tomorrow for a consultation. I haven’t really fully decided what I’m going to do, but my mom and brother and extended family all really want me to do it, I don’t know how accurate it is but my last tyrer cuzick score was 67.1. I’m wondering if I’m being too drastic with considering to go ahead with the bilateral risk reducing mastectomy and reconstruction. I don’t wanna do something crazy and unnecessary. I’d just love some opinions. Thank you in advance. Also, I’m a single mom to a 13 year old son, who’s dad is not the best so he needs me, but I’m also afraid of not recognizing my body and having emotional issues as well as a hard recovery.
