Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Saturday! I'm beginning to feel like things are going to be alright with Mom. She's sounding more like her old self on the phone, and when she asked if there were any more moves coming up and I told her she was where she is going to be permanently, she actually said "Good. I like it here." She's been going to programs and spending time in the common areas and chatting with the other residents. One of the staff calls her a social butterfly. She's gained 8 pounds. I've been able to listen to what she does complain about (and complaining is a bit of a long-time activity for her) and not feel like whatever it is I need to fix ASAP or that it's my fault she's in that situation. I suspect that getting to know the staff is helping with that. I've been reminding Mom that it takes time to get to know the staff and for the staff to get to know her, but I forgot that it takes time for me to get to know the staff and learn to trust them, too.
Some good old-fashioned Arctic air has arrived, temps are below the donut overnights, just getting into the double digits during the day. The big chaise has become my favorite place to hang out, and the puppers seem to have the same opinion. I love having enough space in the chaise for all three of us to be comfortable. Zoe, however, has decided that instead of lying beside me or across my feet/legs that she prefers curl up on top of the back of the chair, with her butt resting on my shoulder. It must be the weirdest looking position, I wish I could get a pic.
Carole--Love hearing about your Mom "graduating" from Hospice care! Just goes to show that treating the symptoms and quality of life is as, or even more important that treating a disease or condition. And you are right, family shouldn't hover while someone is adjusting to a new setting. I wish Mom didn't have so many appointments during the first couple of weeks she was there, she hardly spent any daytime in the facility. I've rescheduled some of her December appointments so that she is not going out more than once a week.

Holly Jolly Christmas Citrus Cocktail
Ingredients
• ▢2 ounces vodka
• ▢1/2 ounce St. Germain (elderflower liquor)
• ▢1/3 cup fresh squeezed clementine or blood orange juice
• ▢ginger beer, for topping
• ▢pomegranate arils, for topping
• ▢1 sprig fresh thyme or mint
Instructions
Fill a cocktail glass with ice. Add the vodka, elderflower liquor (if using), and clementine juice. Top with ginger beer. Add the pomegranates and thyme or mint. Enjoy!

My DB let me know his FIL died this morning. DSIL was in the process of readying to go to the hospital when they got the call. How fitting that an ex-Navy man decided Pearl Harbor Day was the day for his final salute. They picked up his wife and went to the hospice to say their good-byes. DB was hoping he'd hold on until tomorrow since it will be the 16th anniversary of my DF's death and then we could have a "Dad's day". I'm hoping they have connected in heaven and are busy exchanging "Dad" jokes because both loved them. I'll have to let my neighbor know because they worked together for many years. It will be a military funeral so I am not sure when it will be scheduled.
We went to DGS's basketball game. He is on a new team this year and they actually function more as a team. They won! It was a really good game, too. We missed DGD's game yesterday, but she has a dance recital this coming Sunday and we bought tickets for that. We went back to DS's house and had a really good pizza with his family. It was a new one at this place and was a thin crust with red sauce, cheese and chunks of Italian sausage. It had lots of meat and was delicious.
canarycat, I agree with carole that you and cindyny should start a business together. You both seem to have DIY skills and are good at it.
petite1, house repairs can be overwhelming and sometimes you have to walk away to catch your breath. As much as you are in despair about the needs to make your cabin comfy, just remember, once they are done, you will have an escape that protects you from the elements and an escape from the heat of FL.
Tomorrow the HVAC people are to return and hopefully have a solution for the A/C duct problem in the attic. Once that is fixed then we can have to guy come back to finish his repairs in the guest room closet. Once he's done the closet needs to be painted and I need to order the closet organizer I had seen on Walmart that seems it will work in this shallow closet. I am tired of looking at 4 rooms in total disarray: guest room DD's old bedroom, living room and dining room. I still have been unable to locate a dry cleaners that cleans custom drapes. I may have to take the drapes down myself, give them a good vacuuming and then rehang them once the room is painted. I was hoping to have this done before Christmas, but it's not looking good.
I have a pain management appointment tomorrow to see what the next step is for addressing my unrelenting back pain. When they measured my height for the PFT's I have lost another inch and she was generous because I had my shoes on and she only deducted 1/2 inch for them. So my BMI will shoot up with this height loss and negate the recent weight I have lost.
I put the Christmas tree up, which is a big step after nearly 10 years of none, and have yet to hang any ornaments. It needs to be straightened because it has a slight lean. I have a collection of handmade ornaments I made when I was in my BSN program and would work on them when I needed a short break from studying. I also have many from my childhood, those made by my children and then those we have collected over the years. I probably have enough for several trees. My DS's house was fully decorated and looks lovely.

thanks. Yes…..I am 3 days into this new diagnosis. My oncologist specializes in breast cancer and other cancers. He did mention a bone marrow test and possibly radiation to help with pain if the Tamoxifen doesn’t work. I’ll mention it all when I see him 12/23 and mention CDK inhibitors. I was just in shock Friday that I wasn’t in worse shape like I thought and that I will be here for Christmas. I was scared to death. Thank you.

I slept quite well but still quite sick. I don't feel particularly bad but still have the productive cough and little voice. Taking the expectorant in the day, help get rid of the productive chest but beyong just meds and water to hydrate, adding honey to medicine time to hopefully get the throat to the point I can talk. I am also rinsing sinuses as well.
My budget smart watch is coming today, only thing I want from that is the ability to call own phone, once I feel better, look into a life alert vibe. SIL says I can get one free, will look into it and how to apply post sickness. Cats are also getting a new treat to try out, a combo of chicken, beef and catnip flavour.
Nothing outstanding on the agenda, checking fridge as I put a couple of frozen things in back of fridge so need to heat them up. No idea what meal will come about. I do have to say, air fryer cleans up very well, soaked half hour from yesterdays delicious honey garlic chicken thighs and crispy lentils. Came totally clean easily. I also want to actually try using my mini grill for a frozen burger to have an extra ingredient to make different meals.
Laundry and a sweep, been using a cane around house, not really feeling necessity, also watching feet as I am stepping over the stepbench. My voice hoarseness was caused by me screaming for help, not the cold I figure. Treating voice with extra fluids like water and tea. I did have to use the phone and the guy could hear me but still quite hoarse. Adding honey to the mix when taking meds has helped a lot. Texted DB and SIL birthday wishes vs calling. Would like more of a voice by Wednesday.
If I make anything really good will post it, for now just having some macaroni and beef noodles, they are simple and good may have an egg sandwich later.

Thankyou all so much for sharing your stories. I am 24 years old, diagnosed with stage 3C breast cancer. All these stories give me SO much hope for my future.
I'm just starting my life, and plan on living a long one.

@ssales13 Stacey, so good to hear from you. It sure feels great to do some cleaning and get rid of stuff that we no longer need, doesn’t it? A Goodwill store just opened a mile from us, so I donate items frequently.
I had to laugh at your comment regarding winter not yet started and wishing for spring! I am trying to embrace the snow we received on Monday that is still on the ground. It sure is pretty, but makes for a soggy dog every time we take him out!! 🐕🦺

I was just diagnosed with bone Mets in spine, ribs, and sacrum from my BC that has been at bay for 8 years. Gone I thought. Agonizing pain, pet scan showed bone only. Was given diluded for pain (Thank you God) and tamoxifen to kill cancer in spine. I am hoping it helps with the pain as I can barely get off of sofa. Does anyone have any experience with this. Thank you all❤️

had pET Scan and they found my BC metastasis to my lower spine, ribs and sacrum. Dilaudid for pain and tamoxifen for cancer. No organs affected Any one have this? And when does tamoxifen start to help either pain? Thanks everyone.
