Re: So...whats for dinner?
Minus, While I used to have very long hair I keep it close to shoulder length now. I make sure it’s long enough to put up and wear in a ponytail. There is a Nothing Bundt Cakes just outside the city I grew up in. There used to be a famous discount store called Spag’s across the street from the location. The store is no more but there is a memorial marker. I’ll have to drive the hour and a half to see the memorial and taste a Bundt cake.
Carole, I’m glad you had a busy farmer’s market. I think people are watching their wallets these days. Rhubarb crisp is so good.
I spent the day at a local outdoor art show helping my walking friend with her booth. I saw so many people I know who thought I had disappeared since I can’t attend indoor events any more. My friend sold many cards copied from her watercolors but not much else. She did sign up quite a few people for art and French lessons. I enjoyed the day.
Dinner tonight was chicken in a Dijon, scallion and cherry tomato sauce on rice. I’ll make it again.
Re: So...whats for dinner?
The potluck dinner was good. Meats were smoked turkey and sliced roasted chicken. Sides were baked beans, cheesy potatoes made with hash browns, pasta salad (my favorite). I had a generous portion of pasta salad, a small serving of cheesy potatoes and a few pieces of chicken. Mary made two rhubarb baked desserts. I had one that was very good. Rhubarb crisp with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
The gathering was small and quieter than in previous years when the event included karaoke and went late into the evening. Not everyone attended. Some had other plans or company for the holiday weekend. Things change.
The farmers market had swarms of people. Once again we made some sales but nothing like the last two summers. We're down to putting out all our bowls on display. Next Saturday will be our last of the summer. The following Saturday dh will play in a charity golf tournament.
Re: So...whats for dinner?
Carole, Enjoy the potluck meal. It’s good to have a scheduled get together before neighbors head home after summer.
Wally, It’s brave of you to cut your own hair. As a teen I cut my family members’ hair but would never attempt to cut my own. My dad paid for it to be done professionally figuring he came out ahead. Hopefully you can fish in the more walkable location.
Dinner tonight was fish and chips for DH and leftover spaghetti for me.
Re: Can we have a forum for "older" people with bc?
petite1, how wonderful you were able to go to your new retreat. I hope Midnight Louie was able to tolerate the ride. Enjoy your weekend.
Snady, hoping you were able to unpack some more of those boxes. To put a positive spin on it, if the contents are not labeled, regard it as a surprise gift to make it less onerous. Soon you will reach the end, and your home will be organized and decluttered and you can pat yourself on the back for a job well-done.
harley07, yes, I did earn those "guns" and now I have to work to keep them over the fall and winter, so I'll have to find an equivalent exercise. Maybe light weights or resistance bands will help.
Today we had an early dinner (linner) with DD and DSIL before we went to see Cirque Italia. The place we ate at used to be our favorite for New Year's Eve dinners, but over the years it went from something special, to not so special, since each year they took away another attraction and became like a regular dinner there. The meal was very good, so we will return for regular dining. I had a birthday certificate which expired today and DD had a gift certificate we gave her at least 4-5 years ago which they honored. We still tip based on the total of the bill, before any deductions, so the wait staff doesn't get cheated. She was really attentive and my dessert had a candle on it.
The reviews for Cirque were all over the place, but I heartily enjoyed it. I loved the athleticism of the performers who are muscular, but not muscle bound. The contortions they can perform are amazing. It was performed with 60's music as the background and I loved that as well.
Tomorrow I need to play catch-up around here and think about packing. I want to coordinate outfits to reduce the number of clothes I take, and plan the jewelry to wear with each outfit. I always read about these people who take 10 clothing items and are able to get 14 days worth of outfits. I am amazed because I have never been able to do that and have been known to overpack. It's challenging when ports of call have different weather zones. We will be in Alaska, Victoria and Seattle, each with their own weather system.
Hope everyone had a great day. I know the last 2 for us have been very pleasant.
Waving hello to everyone.

Welcome teka, ninaca, & cat-guardian
I am at my little cabin in North Carolina. Since it is a holiday weekend, why not have a holiday. It is so much cooler than Florida.
I hope everyone is having a pleasant weekend.

A warm welcome to teka, ninaca and cat_guardian.
Betrayal - 130 bags of mulch!?! I’m sure you do have’guns’ and they are hard earned and well deserved
Sandy - what a mess! Is there anyway to move back into your home and unpack the boxes as you go? Painting and minor repairs are inconvenient but perhaps doable so you don’t have to keep paying rent in Lincolnwood.
When we had our basement and first floor painted in spring we were living in the house among the boxes and dust from drywall repair and refinished floors. Once the water was turned back on, our insurance company would no longer pay for temporary housing.
Re: Can we have a forum for "older" people with bc?
Welcome cat_guardian to our very friendly and supportive forum. Many of us are years beyond diagnosis and active treatment, but we still are available for a listening ear and advice.
So you can book mark this site which will make it easier for you to find us. We have had recent posters who have just begun their treatment and can share their experiences with you as well. Hope you'll return.
For peace of mind I would recommend you do the Sentinel node bx. Others may not agree, so I'll let them chime in. I would suggest you discuss this with your doctor for pros and cons.
Re: how about drinking?
Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Sunday Funday! Fall is definitely making its presence felt at night now. I had to get out a heavier blanket last night, and Zoe even snuggled under the blanket at one point early this ayem! It always amazes me how much warmer the bedroom is than the rest of the house when I get up. You wouldn't think 1 person and 2 dogs would heat up a room so much!
Teka--how kind of you to share your garden with the doe! Yellowjacket stings are pretty ouchy from what I've heard.
Wren--setting up that phone call must have been a real job! Good for you for sticking with it and making it happen. I hope the dinner with DD was a very good one!
Skv0123--Welcome to the HTL! We area a mildly crazy bunch but we have a lot of fun here. To drink or not to drink, or how much to drink is a pretty hotly debated topic in medicine still. For me it's a choice to accept that there may be some risk of recurrence in favor of continuing to do something I really enjoy and not letting the cancer rule my life. Disclaimer: I personally do not believe that alcohol intake directly causes breast cancer. I acknowledge an association, but association does not equal causation. And until medical science can tell me with assurance exactly what caused me to develop breast cancer, I'm not taking on the blame of giving myself the cancer by drinking and being overweight and eating meat. Interesting side note--in all the research reports I have read, the correlation between alcohol and breast cancer has been between alcohol and the first diagnosis of breast cancer. I've seen nothing yet showing the same correlation between alcohol and breast cancer recurrence or second breast cancer diagnoses. So I figure that the damage is done, and since I have no more breast tissue to mutate, the risk of recurrence or a second breast cancer is small enough to allow me to enjoy a drink or two with meals or in the evening if I want.
Minus--ah, the magic of moderation! Which I think is the best approach to EVERYTHING!
