Re: So...whats for dinner?
DH made a HUGE pot of corn chowder yesterday, using one package of frozen fresh corn. He had to dig out the stock pot which is seldom used here in MN. This batch of chowder was better than his first attempt. I took some over to Mary and we have ample leftovers.
Warmer weather is returning today so we can enjoy being outside for the next ten days. We like cool, but not "stay inside with the heat pump running" cool.
Re: So...whats for dinner?
Wally, I like fog but would rather not drive in it. Prices are way up for everything.
Rhonda, It’s great that you have another 11 weeks of the CSA. I hope your new semester is off to a good start.
It rained last night and while it is not exactly cool it was nice to walk when the temperature was 70. On Friday they finally replaced the float arm in the propane tank so the gauge will work. The workers had to empty the tank and burn the vapor off first so there was quite a spectacular flare to watch. The good news is that the 25 year old buried tank looks almost new.
Dinner tonight was creamy lemon basil chicken, sautéed asparagus and mashed potatoes.
Re: So...whats for dinner?
I love reading about the cool weather… starting to call down here to the 70s . Looking forward to sweater weather. The new Semester started so have been trying once again to cook in advance over the weekend to last for 4 days into the week. Have 11 weeks left of the CSA. Made beets and sautéed collard greens with garlic and ginger flavored with soy sauce, one of my favorites. And sautéed celery, yellow peppers, zucchini, onions, garlic and vegan sausage to go with it. Quite tasty! Found a new food blogger for salads and they had a sourdough starter recipe ! I want to try my hand at bread making this winter. . I know many of you make your own bread, I look forward to learning.
Re: So...whats for dinner?
We had so much fog yesterday, the temps never got over 55 as our high. Happy Dance! It was so beautiful to see the fog bank and the wafts of fog through the pines…a great ride into Sequim yesterday. Sticker shock on prices.
Lamb chops with spinach and beets tonight.
Re: So...whats for dinner?
DH grilled the ribeye and mixed up a sour cream and horseradish sauce while I fried breaded eggplant slices. A wonderful dinner. Leftover ribeye and eggplant. I plan to make a casserole/hot dish with the eggplant.
Brrrr… It's cold this morning. I'm looking forward to return of 70's next week.
Re: So...whats for dinner?
Carole, its even been cold here over in NW Wisconsin. Been just puttering around the house we're renting here for the last week. Last Friday had to bring my cousin a prescription she needed from town out to her as she was too sick to come into town to get it, so hubby and i got it for her and brought it to her. My aunt in thnking us for doing it made dinner and let me raid her garden for fresh produce. Probably will have more coming this week so it will be run to storage to get my canning stuff so i can do that when I raid her garden again! The last time I got three and a half sandwich bags full of crushed tomatoes.
Made chili last night so tonight, i am going to cook up a little pasta and throw it all together and maybe pan cook some garlic bread to go with it.
Re: So...whats for dinner?
Carole, Enjoy the ribeye which will taste even better when you think about its good price.
Dinner tonight was stuffed peppers and boiled potatoes.
Re: So...whats for dinner?
We had leftover beef and vegetable soup last night. I'm thawing a ribeye for tonight.
Re: So...whats for dinner?
It's most likely caused by drug induced liver injury from Lovastatin which I had been taking for two years (another rare adverse effect). It seems when the liver isn't working toxins cross the blood brain barrier and destroy neurotransmitters. It took seven months after I developed symptoms to diagnose that so there was plenty of time for damage to be done.
Carole, Hopefully the weather for the last farmer's market isn't too cold. You'll probably get another change to soup weather after you return home.
Wally, I hope your DH’s knee is improving and you had a good lunch.
Illimae and Nance, I’m glad you chose the non radioactive shrimp.
Dinner tonight was meatloaf, sautéed zucchini and mashed potatoes.
Re: how about drinking?
Good afternoon ladies:
Another weekend has come and gone, but it is beautiful here in New Mexico here in Sept. My favorite month here when temps cool down and nights get cooler too.
I had my tree company in this week to do a bit pruning of some of the trees, and they pulled out a dead one plus shrubs I no longer can handle without bigger power tools I don't want to buy. Four men who worked front and back with their power tools and things look SO MUCH BETTER now. Yesterday I went out to Walmart garden center and Home Depot and loaded up on some fall mums and have those going in the pots and in the gardens right now. Things are looking really good around here.
We are three weeks away from opening the new hospital and although there are some loose ends that make me go "hmm" we are at the point of whatever happens happens now (and a lot of it has zero to do with our dept). Our teams have been busy getting the last of the things set up and they are prepping for the opening. Now everyone is asking when I am retiring because they just cared about me staying through the opening and think there is a lot of "oh crap she may be going soon" kind of talk. My boss asked if I was retiring before year end and said no, I planned to work through year end for my own financial goals but thinking early 2026. They are dangling the possibility of a possible part time arrangement which I am not sure I want or would happen anyways. In the mean time I am focused on getting ready to go and also going to have a little vaca to CA to visit family in early Nov.
Mommy- is your new home being built? I had my home built 20 plus years ago and remember how anxious I was to get out of my rental and into my new place. I hope everything finishes up well with the new house and you are in soon. You will love having a brand-new home!
NM- your stories about your mom and her thinking everything has prices from 50 years ago is so familiar to me. Not from my mother, but my SIL who passed a few years ago. She used to query me alot about the cost of things I was paying for (anything from a new car, to vacation, etc.) During the last 10-15 years of her life with her decline in health, she didn't do any bigger purchases (including travel arrangements) and lived decades earlier with costs. I hope you can get to visit your brother/her son as it's probably been a few years since they have seen each other. I am not sure I have heard he has come to visit much but think he got a new job and know with that, there is often little vacation time for awhile. You probably need to plan to drink some wine on the plane, and during your time in NC!
I have a couple little weekend junkets coming up, one with some girlfriends for a girl's weekend and another to Santa Fe for a weekend to enjoy a jazz concert with the NM Jazz Festival that is underway.
Wishing everyone a nice September and back when I can!
