Re: Can we have a forum for "older" people with bc?
DH had a free entree coupon for a local restaurant that only does breakfast, lunch and brunch so we went to use it before it expires. He had Grande Huevos Rancheros and I had the 1/2 Cosmopolitan salad (chicken salad with craisins, grapes, walnuts and greens with citrus lemon vinaigrette) and mac n' cheese side. It was delicious but it seems when I eat restaurant salads my GI tract goes into rebellion. Happened after I ate part of DH's salad at the Capital Grille and again today. Both dressings were a form of vinaigrette so I may have to avoid salads on our trip. I can eat salads at home with no issues though. Sorry if this is TMI. Gut hasn't been the same since my bowel resection surgery.
Illinoislady, hope you get good news on PET scan results. Lil' Red sounds so cute and at his current weight I have 3 cats who outweigh him! Tawny is the heaviest at 13 lb and the other two weigh around 8.5 lb each. What will he weigh maximum?
Harley, sorry you could not get the last dose of chemo and hope your numbers improve so you can get it soon and mark it done in your check list.
I won't have internet access while in Europe to be able to read so I will have a lot of catching up to do when I return.
At PT on Wednesday, I met someone who had her knee replaced a week after me. She was complaining about continuing pain and swelling ( part of the recovery and ongoing for up to 6 months or longer for some) and mentioned her orthopod doesn't believe in post-op PT. She just started PT at 7 weeks post-op (I started at 3 weeks) and was bemoaning the fact she can't resume playing tennis yet! Said her incision was tender to the touch (as is mine with some textures). I think I know which system she used for her surgery since I approached them first and was turned off by first the surgeon who knowing that both knees were bone on bone, and I was having ambulation issues dismissed me with "wait to have surgery". They also present you with a handout on PT exercises to do on your own and do not order out-pt. PT. I contacted my PCP and she recommended the orthopod I used. I tried telling the woman that it the norm is 6 months before some of the SE's are minimal and a year before you forget you had the surgery. She did not want to hears this and insisted she was told she could resume tennis at 4 months post-op. My PT called out sick today so I will ask at our next visit how it ended.
So do I love my PT? Absolutely because I was scheduled to be discharged today but she had the receptionist call me to reschedule for Tuesday. At first I was reluctant because her Tuesday appointments are from 12 -8 and I was not originally on this schedule. Then the secretary tells me that she didn't want another PT to discharge me because they don't know me and she was willing to come in at 11 AM on Tuesday to fit me in. I didn't want her to have to do that but she was insistent about being the one to discharge me. So I will rearrange my schedule and go on Tuesday. Then Misty spills DH's coffee all over my PT handout for the trip so I am asking her to send it to me so I can print it. All 14 pages bear evidence of the coffee spill and smell.
Plan for today was to finish living room and dining room and start to pack non-essentials. I need to get a start on this. So I am waving hello to everyone, hoping recovery and aches/pain are minimal and that you have a good day. It is overcast here, in the low 70's and the promised rain has yet to show. We need it desperately so I am hoping it isn't a total wipeout for the weekend but we get enough to offset the drought.
Happy Labor Day weekend to those who won't check in over the weekend.
Re: So...whats for dinner?
Mae - sorry for the rough week but kudos for the Betty Crocker. For many years I served those au graten potatoes at least once a month. Not the same as my Mother's home made, but were great after working all day & then having to create a meal.
Maggie - I had to look up "radiatori pasta". Not something I'd ever heard before.
Special - my ex-DH grew up in Salida after his Dad decided he needed to learn about the land and moved them from Houston. We sort of headquartered there for every summer vacation & roamed the mountains. Love Chaffee county. I too hope your results are not remarkable.
Nance - so glad to see you more often. Are you through with doctors for the time being?
Wally - I envy the fishing. I prefer salt water fishing or mountain steams - but much Texas prefers lake fishing. I am going to try the pork/veggie combo.
Hi to everyone else.
Dinner was an omelette with mushrooms & Havarti paired with an English Muffin (and butter of course). I had planned pork chops, but the day got away from me. So chops tomorrow. I have three sauces lined up un-opened that I had to replace after the storms: Bibigo Korean Marinade & BBQ, Trader Joe's Sweet Chili, and Hoisin sauce - as well as a new one I haven't tried yet - Bachan's Original Japanese BBQ Sauce.
Re: So...whats for dinner?
The leaves are starting to change where I live, too. Fall is my favorite season so I’m happy. Of course, I don't have a long trip south ahead of me.
Nance, Shortcuts are smart cooking. I eat quiche for the filling, not the crust.
Doodler, I’ve been to the Bourbon St. Grill in Waterloo and it was a crazy mix of cajun/creole/asian dishes. I guess there’s something for every taste and, as you said, someone else does the cooking.
Dinner tonight was chicken breast pieces in an artichoke/sundried tomato sauce over radiatori pasta.
Re: So...whats for dinner?
After a very tiring day, week (heck, year), I decided to skip cooking supper and went to a mall food court.
I went to a place called Bourbon Grill, I think. Assumed it was southern style BBQ type cuisine, which was most of it. But it also seems to have a menu resembling a Chinese take out, with egg rolls and Asian-style noodles? Southern/Chinese fusion takeout? It was different, but it was OK for an evening when I wanted carbs and zero cooking effort!
Re: So...whats for dinner?
Glad you got to share dh's meal, Maggie.
DH was up at 6:30 (golf day) and turned on the heat pump to take the chill out of the camper. It will be warming up during the days but the nights will cool down. We're starting to see change of color in leaves.
The pot roast and veggies tasted good and leftovers for another meal.
Re: how about drinking?
Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy TGIF day! I am now officially totally disgusted with the Amreican health care system. I called about the referals for Mom's testing at the local hospital. ONe test order was in the system but had not had anything done to schedule it, and there was no note why or when it would be scheduled. First available appointment was in Dec an hour before the cardiologist appointment. No record of the other test being ordered, no way to get it done before the cardiologist appointment. "Resource limitations" was the explanation for the long waits to get things done. When Mom say the provider at her PCP office yesterday she offered to send the orders to the hospital the office is affiliated with (a different hospital system, the hospital is over an hour's drive away from Mom's place). Lo and behold, the tiny local hospital called me back this morning and Mom has appointments for the tests next Friday. Now I working on figuring out who she has seen as a cardiologist a year or so ago, pretty sure that wasn't a St. Joseph practice, and getting the cardiologist appointment made for a more reasonable time frame. Mom's heart rate is running more consistently in the 40's and if she's going to end up needing a pacemaker I'd like to see that done sooner than Feb or March, which is what it would be at St. Joe's. Since that hospital joined Covenant management things have gone downhill rapidly. The other local hospital near Mom is a much bigger one that is known for mistakes, impersonal care, high infection rate, and lack of communication with anyone outside thier system, so not a much better option.
Colt has a new trick now. He has always been excited by moving lights, and will bark and jump at them and chase them around. In ayems the sun comes in the window by my recliner and often reflects off the phone or coffee cup or anything shiny on the stand next to me onto to the ceiling. When Colt notices, he goes nuts and even more so if I touch the stand or move anything so the reflection wiggles and jumps around on the ceiling. Well, he has figured out that when the reflection stops moving and I don’t reach over and jiggle the stand or something on it he can go behind the recliner and get close enough to the stand to nudge it or bump it and the reflection will wiggle and jiggle and he can bark and jump at it for a few more minutes! He can make an amazing amount of noise!
Morning, Carole and MOmmy!

Re: Starting Chemo May and June 2024 Support Thread
@ebfitzy I hope you are having some relief by today, so sorry. We just don't know what to expect daily, it can be nerve-racking for sure. I'm told its cumulative so side effects may get worse as we move along, I know mine have.
@Love4All thanks for the link, I will check it out!
@bailey.boo congratulations on your last day of chemo! 🌸 it kind of feels unreal that its really over imo.
🔔 I too had my last chemo yesterday! I left there feeling relief and exhaustion. Praying my side effects don't get much worse, that last round was much worse but the infection that put me in the hospital made it awful. I realized when I got home that my Oncologist never mentioned my port removal, I sent them a message. I don't look forward to that for sure! Sending good wishes to all of you 💝
Re: Starting Chemo May and June 2024 Support Thread
@bailey.boo Congrats! I know you're excited to get back to feeling normal! Don't forget to ring the bell (if you choose to)!
