Mastectomy prep list
This site got me through treatment. There used to be lists - how to prep for mastectomy. That list was soooooo helpful for me.
I have a friend who is having a double mastectomy in two weeks. I can’t remember every tip and trick I learned because that was 2015.
Is this list somewhere I can’t find?
If it’s no longer available, please listen your tips and tricks.
Stuff I remember:
- Satin pjs to make it easier to slide out of bed.
- A stepstool by the bed
- Grabber to reach overhead stuff
- Pre prep meals
- Lanyard for drains in the shower

I am budgeting hard, planning a miniscule delivery from walmart, overall budget around 30 to 35 dollars total. Got two standard meat pies, two of the frozen penne with chicken, two queso bowls, 5 hershey's chocolate almond bars as well. The meat pies give extra veggies with them vs the mini pot pies. The queso bowl can be combined with penne or other pasta to make a large meal out of it, could get two to three meals instead of one. I will see.
Order is less than half of what I would spend and using up some of the reward credit earned by paying rent on my card. Love that I pay that in full and get a large credit for it. Covers one to two shopping trips. I also had a 5.00 walmart gift card for playing games.
Edit, made a regular egg in the mini griddle, thinking I will continue that, best egg I've had for a while. Once out of the mini griddle, cut up egg and added a tiny drop of mayochup, may and ketchup mix, drop of smokey bacon flavour mayo and finally a tiny bit of chipotle mayo. It was just the right amount of topping so it did not drown the egg and put some salt on. Will have to keep up with making eggs that way as they are tasty. I cannot find my soft tortillas as of yet or would have put the egg on a soft tortilla.
Gave up on looking, made another tiny order, was 18 bucks for regular butter which I can spread on a tortilla and cook up an egg the same way. Keep the plant butter to help grease a pan. The plant butter is cheaper but does not appeal to me at all.
Tonight am having my queso bowl mixed with the penne pasta mixed. Heat up one bowl and then the other, put it into the same bowl, have them last a few days is my plan, can boost the queso content up as well.

@rlschaller Thank heavens that your various oncologists are pulling together for you and have updated knowledge. And thank you for posting what you've found out about skin mets and the various radiation treatments to be had. Are yours bothersome at this point? Mine are occasionally itchy and I'm tired of looking at them!
Back a while my MO said that she wanted to leave the skin mets unradiated, as long as they weren't bothering me, because they were a good visual indicator of how I was doing. She often takes a photo for comparison's sake. I will ask her about the proton radiation, though that of course will be the purview of the RO, who I haven't seen in quite some time.
My MO also suggested an early drug trial. She said that being in one would be very intense, with many appointments, bloodwork, etc., so be forewarned! But I would jump at the chance.
It's definitely gotten colder around here, heading into the much-mentioned "sweater weather". 🧥🧤Love the heated blankets on offer at chemo.
I hope that your usual calm disposition is helping immensely in what is a jam-packed several days.
@cookie54 A clearing break is good for the soul! Do you think that the job will be done before you are into your busy time of scans and appointments? Much good luck to you as you see your MO tomorrow.

Hi all! Jazzy, I love the pictures of the balloons, you have an eye for taking good pictures. Native Maine, my mom is the last of her siblings left, it is a weird feeling thinking that you are the only one left. I really don't think she thinks about it too much. I love that your mom is moving into an apartment, I wish my mom would find something like that. I know she gets lonely living on her own. The only thing she really loves is going to hear people playing the old songs she likes. She hasn't been feeling well enough to go lately, but she did go today. It is better when there is someone else to drive. I hope you have a great time on your trip to NC. It will be nice for you and your mom to visit with family.
I have been busy as always, trying to keep up with the yard work, it should get better when it cools down. I have a friend that has stage 4 lung/brain cancer so I spend time with her whenever she calls. I am going with her to a bible study Thursday mornings, then a bunch goes out to lunch and drink afterwards. I am not really much of a drinker, but I try to order something I never had just to try it. LOL I just said I wasn't much of a drinker and I have been having a glass of wind several evenings this week.
Miranda, I read your article and seen the pictures. You were awesome!
I don't get on very much anymore, but I am always thinking of you.

threetree, how are you? It’s always nice to hear from you. Thank you for the continued encouragement to bump this post. I pray for all of the sisters here every day. People working through something hard ought to know that there is a world of support for them. Always. Not a day goes by when I don’t think about everyone dealing with this. I recently lost a lifelong friend who passed (non-cancer issue) thinking no one cared. He was wrong. There was such a kind outpouring for him. He never knew how beloved he was in life. I believe he knows now… but he should have basked in that when he was still living. People ought to know they have love and support.

Hi Maureen! Good to hear from you. We are well. My wife is 13 years out, too. Girls are now 21 and 17. My wife has a little over a year to go before she retires. I may never retire! 😀 I can’t believe it’s been 13 years. I can vividly recall all of the people/ angels that God put in our path to help us get through those really tough early days. You are definitely one of those angels. I keep coming back because I know the thing we needed most back then was HOPE. Everyone needs hope. I want people just starting their journey to have that hope that we so desperately needed. God bless you and your family. We’ve done some traveling over the recent years. Italy, Croatia, Montenegro, Iceland, Alaska, Hollywood, Seattle…

@raysal Hi ! Ty for your reply regarding pleural effusion. That is great that the Kisqali is keeping the BC at bay. Verzenio and Kisqali were two "control" treatments that my oncologist spoke about, but she's waiting on the last of the fluid testing results to make sure there's no HER2? Today I did start anastrozole. Thanks again and take care!

@threetree Hi ! Thanks so much for your kind response about pleural effusion. That must have been concerning, it being on both your lungs.
That walking and deep breathing probably did add to your healing. Beautiful autumn days here, so I'm determined to try to start at least walking my Border Collie again (daughter lives next door and has fully taken over dog walking duties).
