Re: Stage IIb and 5+ years out, anyone?
I was stage 2b and just got to 5 years past my diagnosis date! I was diagnosed at age 36, 3.5 cm grade 3 tumor with 1cm lymph node. Oncotype score was 19.
Had a bilateral mastectomy (ended up with surgical complications so also had a lat flap surgery with reconstruction), chemo, radiation, and ovaries removed. Now I'm almost halfway thru 10 years of letrozole.
When I was going through everything my goal was to be done with active treatment before my 5 year started kindergarten. I did finish a few weeks before school started so I got to walk him in with my super short hair. Now he's a 4th grader and my younger son is in 1st grade. I'm so thankful for this time I've had & all of the memories we've made and hope to be here (and healthy) when they graduate.
Love reading these stories of so many of us living well after breast cancer. I know it gave me a lot of hope in the early days. 😊
Take care
Re: Can we have a forum for "older" people with bc?
Traverse through Panama Canal was beautiful. Sea day today, so I will post some of the photos I took.
Today the housekeeping staff displayed their wonderful towel creations. They used to have them in our rooms nightly, but now it is reserved to certain nights. Same with the pillow chocolates. I don't think the owners realize hiw poorly this reflects on them. However, it is evident in the staffing cuts they have made in the room attendants and the wait staff in the dining rooms. Service is slow for meals and the waiters are always apologizing. Sad reflection on how this cruise line treats their staff and customers. I will reflect this in my feedback.
Hope everyone has a great day.
Cindyny, I have a long list of household projects to do when we get home. You are welcome to stop by if you need more to do, lol.
Thanks for the comments in the photos. I am enjoying the cruise in spite of its short comings.
Re: So...whats for dinner?
Continuing the protein discussion - Carole, I definitely don't turn the oven on in the summer, so no beef or pork roasts or baked chicken. But I do have poached salmon or cod at least once a week. And eggs 3x a week. I keep rotisserie chicken on hand. I eat LOTS of cheese. & cottage cheese & yogurt. And canned tuna. What I forgot to tell my PCP is that I eat a can of smoked oysters, clams, trout, etc usually twice a week with my salads or veggies. Even through my DIL is vegetarian and my nephew is vegan - I really believe my protein intake is OK.
Today was left over mixed green salad with extra cauliflower & bacon added and HEB ranch dressing. Served with whole wheat crackers & butter. Dessert will likely be 2 Godiva dark chocolate hearts at bed time. Or maybe a cup of chocolate mousse. Along with a dram of Tuaca (Italian Brandy) at bedtime.
Need to get to the poll tomorrow for early voting.
Re: Long term survivor examples.
Hi everyone. I am just checking in to let you know I am over 14 years from diagnosis and doing well! I am a bit overweight (about 25 lbs😂) but am working on getting that off. I started Dragon boat racing over the summer for a breast cancer survivor team and it gave me a good jump on improving my weight reduction and cardiovascular health. I am continuing my studies in Psychology and grateful for the many years of good health that I have had. Make it through the tough times ladies and know that a whole world full of possibilities awaits you once the hard days are done! You all can do this!!!
Re: So...whats for dinner?
Maggie, yup, with the "quiche," I add some cream and it is softer and fluffier. My filling is more frittata like.
Re: So...whats for dinner?
Last night was some of the chicken. Sharon had a music gig and ate at the gig. I stayed home with the dogs, began the process of refinishing the wood part of a floor lamp and also ran (slowly) 6-1/2 miles.
We have two peelers, I can't see any differences between the two, but one works great on potatoes and carrots and poorly on squash, while the other works great on squash, but poorly on carrots and potatoes.
Re: So...whats for dinner?
We finally had rain yesterday after two months of none. I doubt it was enough but we'll take it.
I'll never forget Apple's description on here of cutting up butternut squash. It brought to mind images of Lizzie Borden.
Carole I perfectly understand that fried chicken craving. The Popeyes around here are so poorly managed I can't believe they're still in business. It's not uncommon to find them closed during normal hours or for them to be out of chicken. When your entire business is fried chicken how could you frequently be "out"? Ŵe gave up on them much to my great disappointment.
Last night was take out pizza. Tonight is chicken leek pie.
