Re: Can we have a forum for "older" people with bc?
betrayal - last October 30 we went through the Panama Canal from the Caribbean Sea to the Pacific Ocean. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
Cindy - you deserve ‘friend of the year’ award. You are so thoughtful.
Re: how about drinking?
Hi ladies:
Winding into our third week on the hospital opening and mostly doing okay. Still working on a few areas we need to finish up that couldn't be done for opening but need to be completed.
The more exciting news is that I am now working on my final planning to see if I can retire in early 2026. It has always been my plan to leave after the project was done (and also when I got to 65, which happened this year) so end of this year was a goal when I started. I am to Medicare age, fully vested at work, and done with this project mostly (good enough to leave soon). As of yesterday, I have started my process to review my final readiness to go beginning with my financial planner. Things are looking good, some more work to do between now and end of the year. My hope is to give my 2 week notice right after the beginning of the year. Then onward to the next chapter!
MistyEyes- those most recent pictures I took are actually off some of the ABQ and other local threads from balloon fiesta. I should have included a disclaimer that those were not my pictures. Some of the ones you do see from me are mine as the balloons do fly over my house a lot. I saw less of that this year during the fiesta, but also a lot of the events ended up cancelled (about half) due to rain and/or wind.
Heading to CA in another 10 days for my first vacation in awhile (since March) to visit family, walk on the beach, shop, eat and do some hot springs out that way. You might see some fun pictures from me too.
Have a good rest of October and swing into November. The end of the year going quickly now….
Re: Stage IIb and 5+ years out, anyone?
I was stage 2b and just got to 5 years past my diagnosis date! I was diagnosed at age 36, 3.5 cm grade 3 tumor with 1cm lymph node. Oncotype score was 19.
Had a bilateral mastectomy (ended up with surgical complications so also had a lat flap surgery with reconstruction), chemo, radiation, and ovaries removed. Now I'm almost halfway thru 10 years of letrozole.
When I was going through everything my goal was to be done with active treatment before my 5 year started kindergarten. I did finish a few weeks before school started so I got to walk him in with my super short hair. Now he's a 4th grader and my younger son is in 1st grade. I'm so thankful for this time I've had & all of the memories we've made and hope to be here (and healthy) when they graduate.
Love reading these stories of so many of us living well after breast cancer. I know it gave me a lot of hope in the early days. 😊
Take care
Re: Can we have a forum for "older" people with bc?
Traverse through Panama Canal was beautiful. Sea day today, so I will post some of the photos I took.
Today the housekeeping staff displayed their wonderful towel creations. They used to have them in our rooms nightly, but now it is reserved to certain nights. Same with the pillow chocolates. I don't think the owners realize hiw poorly this reflects on them. However, it is evident in the staffing cuts they have made in the room attendants and the wait staff in the dining rooms. Service is slow for meals and the waiters are always apologizing. Sad reflection on how this cruise line treats their staff and customers. I will reflect this in my feedback.
Hope everyone has a great day.
Cindyny, I have a long list of household projects to do when we get home. You are welcome to stop by if you need more to do, lol.
Thanks for the comments in the photos. I am enjoying the cruise in spite of its short comings.
Re: So...whats for dinner?
Continuing the protein discussion - Carole, I definitely don't turn the oven on in the summer, so no beef or pork roasts or baked chicken. But I do have poached salmon or cod at least once a week. And eggs 3x a week. I keep rotisserie chicken on hand. I eat LOTS of cheese. & cottage cheese & yogurt. And canned tuna. What I forgot to tell my PCP is that I eat a can of smoked oysters, clams, trout, etc usually twice a week with my salads or veggies. Even through my DIL is vegetarian and my nephew is vegan - I really believe my protein intake is OK.
Today was left over mixed green salad with extra cauliflower & bacon added and HEB ranch dressing. Served with whole wheat crackers & butter. Dessert will likely be 2 Godiva dark chocolate hearts at bed time. Or maybe a cup of chocolate mousse. Along with a dram of Tuaca (Italian Brandy) at bedtime.
Need to get to the poll tomorrow for early voting.
