Re: Can we have a forum for "older" people with bc?
Part 2 - we left the park and ride and headed to a new restaurant. The meal was delicious. I had chicken parm, SO had a New Orleans chicken dish. We were stuffed so opted to skip dessert.
I had leftovers to put in the car and then we were stopping at Publix - in the same strip mall. First said we’d walk, but it was far enough that I said let’s just drive over there.
The car was dead, lights an off yellow color, it would not turn over. We called AAA and waited 2 hours in the parking lot for them to show up.
My first thoughts were I was glad we weren’t in NY freezing. It was warm enough to stand outside of the car.
Directly across from us was a coffee house type place where they had many people taking to an open mike to sing. We heard everything under the sun - from those that could play but not sing, to theater singers belting out Phantom of the Opera. It had us giggle at times, but it definitely helped pass the time.
We had a female AAA person who does just battery jumps and sales. She was able to jump it, and said we’d make it home but don’t turn it off. She didn’t have my size battery but had she it would have been $239, or a higher charge one for $289.
I drove home like the wind. No AC on, no radio, and my dashboard was sort of light low. We made it, pulled in our driveway, got everything out that we needed out, before turning it off.
We ran to Sam’s club this afternoon and bought a battery for $139. They take the old one and charge you $20, but then credited us the $20 - we don’t know why and I hushed SO from asking why.
We came home and installed the new battery. A neighbor came over and sprayed the terminals with silicone. Car started right up, interior lights nice and bright.
That’s my two day long story. It’s already getting dark. I wanted to run to 2 more stores and still might go, in the 2019 Impala.
I hope your last 2 days were less eventful than mine. I have a doctors appointment tomorrow morning for a wellness check. Then we’re off to realtors office to pick up a pie. They have events yearly, and around Thanksgiving they hold a “Pie Palooza” event - giving away your choice of pies. Never have heard of a real estate company being so invested in past clients - we bought 10 years ago!
That’s it for me. Hope you had a great Sunday.

I think I started to post last night but my eyes were tired and I never finished the post.
It was 85 near home but over at the beach there was a beautiful breeze coming off the gulf. Still sweaty though.
We went to a demonstration on how to make a sand sculpture. Super informative and I’d like to try something on a smaller scale once my grandniece is here.
Then there was a competition they call “quick sand” - 2 compete to sculpt the same thing within 10 minutes. Totally enjoyed it.
We took the bus/trolly back to the park & ride but we got to watch the sunset before the bus picked us up.

All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible.

cindyny, I like them. I asked DH and he says that your old 3 way lamp, just needs a new 3 way bulb. He says it is the bulb that is the issue, not the lamp. Give it a try. You could also spray paint the new finds, if you want them a different color.
carole, 3 carts is our norm when we are buying bulk items like kitty litter, paper towels and toilet paper and DS joins us. However, yesterday was a relatively cheap day, only because DS needed just a few items. I have the higher level membership which I share with him so he can make runs for us when the weather is bad. Normally I get a slice of their pizza for lunch because it is so good, but DS wanted Chik-Fil-A and until we got one the next town over, it was the only place we could get it. It's adjacent to the Costco so he ran in rather than sit in the drive through line. I have their mac'n cheese which I will heat up for lunch today.
Had to go to CVS to pick-up prescriptions and for once I reached catastrophic level this year and haven't paid for any for the past 3 months. I had to reach out to PCP to change dosage for another and hope she can order it on Monday so I can pick it up next week.
It is another gloomy day though they say the sun will break through. However, I think the sun is losing the battle here. It's low 50's, but due to overnight rain, it is damp and still bone chilling.
Tomorrow night is sleep study and I've had no response to my emails about the test. I guess I'll get them tomorrow night. I don't sleep well in strange beds, so this may be a non-event for the diagnostic tests if I can't sleep or toss and turn all night. Just want to get it over with and move on. I appreciate that this NP is trying to discover why I desaturate at night, however this has been occurring for years. She's new to the practice and is doing due diligence since I had a big problem after my left knee replacement. Glad she is making the effort to solve this because it could lead to cardiac issues. I find that so many medical issues nowadays are attributed to "age," whether this is true or not.
Hope everyone has a great day and waving "hi" to everyone.

I didn’t know anything about Costco giving back checks. Nor Sam’s Club, which we are a member but don’t use real often. SO joined for the gas while traveling down here. We’re also BJ’s member and after spending $X you receive at the register the option to use $10 off; used to be with a higher level of spending you’d get $20 off. You can save them up to use later. But it’s nice when you run in and it comes up with “would you like to use your $10 savings?” BJ’s is also great for gas. They offer gas items - where if you buy xyz you get an additional .10 cents off per gallon; we use their credit card which also gives .10 cents per gallon off of the regular price. We think we make out good.
I put the curbside lamps in my living room after confirming they worked. The old one was a 3 way switch but quit working as 3 way. It’s nice to have that back. I’m not in “love” with the actual lamp but will keep using them until I tire of them. Old ones will be stored in the garage- I can always go back to them.
Old, then new to me:
We’re headed to the sand sculpture event on Fort Myers beach today. Meeting up with SIL & BIL to check it all out, then going out to dinner with them. I’ll get some pictures.
Chia Seeds Safe for Estrogen Positive Breast Cancer?
I have recently heard a lot of positive things about the benefits of chia seeds and yesterday bought a bottle for myself. However, once I got it home started to wonder about its connection to flax seed (which my oncologist suggested I avoid) and whether chia seeds were safe to use if you have been diagnosed with estrogen positive breast cancer. Searching on the Internet did not really produce much helpful information - basically just advertiser's info. Has anyone done this research or spoken to their oncologists about chia seeds?

Taco, insurance did not cover my ear lobe repairs. I scheduled it after my cruise in order to decide if the cost was worth it, and when I found that some expensive earrings were not displayed well due to left ear tear and asymmetry, that was the deciding factor. The plastic disks didn't help much and the droop was noticeable. It was an office procedure, so no anesthesia bill. Took less than an hour to do both and he did a good job with local anesthesia. It didn't wear off until hours later.
When I was in my 20's two of my brothers were in the military at Thanksgiving and unable to get leave because they were stationed more than 200 miles from home. That was the rule then. My mother was upset that it meant just my youngest brother and I would join them. We lived near Fort Dix, and they put out a request for families willing to offer a meal to servicemen. The first year we had 6 guys join us and they had a bus to and from a local stop. If they wanted to take the bus back, they had to be at the stop at 6 pm. If they could get a ride back, their curfew was 9 pm. None elected to go back to base early and they left with a turkey sandwich and a slice of pie packed by my mother. They helped with dishes and it wa so much fun my mother did this for several more years. We had guys from all over the US and Puerto Rico. None ever elected for an early return to base. This stopped when the 200 mile rule was dropped.
We had several Thanksgivings when foreign students of my DH had no place to go. So we invited them here. We learned that China and South Korea had harvest festivals similar to our Thanksgiving, even if the foods were dissimilar. I can remember trying to explain what mincemeat pie was to them, finally telling them to just try it and if they didn't like it, to just spit it into their napkins. None ever did. I would give them the Hefty plates that had multiple sections and let them make a take home platter for another meal. The Chinese girl said she couldn't do that because she was concerned her roommate would eat it. So I had her pack one for her as well. Given a choice of pies to take home, she opted for the mince meat, much to my surprise. We did this for several years and always enjoyed having them. The Chinese girl came more than once, and I was amazed at how much an 85 lb. girl could eat. She always volunteered to help clean up, too.
I'll let you know how the sleep study goes. I am taking my own pillow because hospital pillows are just awful. They demand you wear pajamas and I haven't owned a pair in more than 50 years, so it will be yoga pants and a tee for me. I hope I get some answers that will be diagnostic and that don't require too many changes for me. Fingers crossed since I would never be able to tolerate a face mask.
