Re: Can we have a forum for "older" people with bc?
cindyny, I like them. I asked DH and he says that your old 3 way lamp, just needs a new 3 way bulb. He says it is the bulb that is the issue, not the lamp. Give it a try. You could also spray paint the new finds, if you want them a different color.
carole, 3 carts is our norm when we are buying bulk items like kitty litter, paper towels and toilet paper and DS joins us. However, yesterday was a relatively cheap day, only because DS needed just a few items. I have the higher level membership which I share with him so he can make runs for us when the weather is bad. Normally I get a slice of their pizza for lunch because it is so good, but DS wanted Chik-Fil-A and until we got one the next town over, it was the only place we could get it. It's adjacent to the Costco so he ran in rather than sit in the drive through line. I have their mac'n cheese which I will heat up for lunch today.
Had to go to CVS to pick-up prescriptions and for once I reached catastrophic level this year and haven't paid for any for the past 3 months. I had to reach out to PCP to change dosage for another and hope she can order it on Monday so I can pick it up next week.
It is another gloomy day though they say the sun will break through. However, I think the sun is losing the battle here. It's low 50's, but due to overnight rain, it is damp and still bone chilling.
Tomorrow night is sleep study and I've had no response to my emails about the test. I guess I'll get them tomorrow night. I don't sleep well in strange beds, so this may be a non-event for the diagnostic tests if I can't sleep or toss and turn all night. Just want to get it over with and move on. I appreciate that this NP is trying to discover why I desaturate at night, however this has been occurring for years. She's new to the practice and is doing due diligence since I had a big problem after my left knee replacement. Glad she is making the effort to solve this because it could lead to cardiac issues. I find that so many medical issues nowadays are attributed to "age," whether this is true or not.
Hope everyone has a great day and waving "hi" to everyone.

I didn’t know anything about Costco giving back checks. Nor Sam’s Club, which we are a member but don’t use real often. SO joined for the gas while traveling down here. We’re also BJ’s member and after spending $X you receive at the register the option to use $10 off; used to be with a higher level of spending you’d get $20 off. You can save them up to use later. But it’s nice when you run in and it comes up with “would you like to use your $10 savings?” BJ’s is also great for gas. They offer gas items - where if you buy xyz you get an additional .10 cents off per gallon; we use their credit card which also gives .10 cents per gallon off of the regular price. We think we make out good.
I put the curbside lamps in my living room after confirming they worked. The old one was a 3 way switch but quit working as 3 way. It’s nice to have that back. I’m not in “love” with the actual lamp but will keep using them until I tire of them. Old ones will be stored in the garage- I can always go back to them.
Old, then new to me:
We’re headed to the sand sculpture event on Fort Myers beach today. Meeting up with SIL & BIL to check it all out, then going out to dinner with them. I’ll get some pictures.
Chia Seeds Safe for Estrogen Positive Breast Cancer?
I have recently heard a lot of positive things about the benefits of chia seeds and yesterday bought a bottle for myself. However, once I got it home started to wonder about its connection to flax seed (which my oncologist suggested I avoid) and whether chia seeds were safe to use if you have been diagnosed with estrogen positive breast cancer. Searching on the Internet did not really produce much helpful information - basically just advertiser's info. Has anyone done this research or spoken to their oncologists about chia seeds?

Taco, insurance did not cover my ear lobe repairs. I scheduled it after my cruise in order to decide if the cost was worth it, and when I found that some expensive earrings were not displayed well due to left ear tear and asymmetry, that was the deciding factor. The plastic disks didn't help much and the droop was noticeable. It was an office procedure, so no anesthesia bill. Took less than an hour to do both and he did a good job with local anesthesia. It didn't wear off until hours later.
When I was in my 20's two of my brothers were in the military at Thanksgiving and unable to get leave because they were stationed more than 200 miles from home. That was the rule then. My mother was upset that it meant just my youngest brother and I would join them. We lived near Fort Dix, and they put out a request for families willing to offer a meal to servicemen. The first year we had 6 guys join us and they had a bus to and from a local stop. If they wanted to take the bus back, they had to be at the stop at 6 pm. If they could get a ride back, their curfew was 9 pm. None elected to go back to base early and they left with a turkey sandwich and a slice of pie packed by my mother. They helped with dishes and it wa so much fun my mother did this for several more years. We had guys from all over the US and Puerto Rico. None ever elected for an early return to base. This stopped when the 200 mile rule was dropped.
We had several Thanksgivings when foreign students of my DH had no place to go. So we invited them here. We learned that China and South Korea had harvest festivals similar to our Thanksgiving, even if the foods were dissimilar. I can remember trying to explain what mincemeat pie was to them, finally telling them to just try it and if they didn't like it, to just spit it into their napkins. None ever did. I would give them the Hefty plates that had multiple sections and let them make a take home platter for another meal. The Chinese girl said she couldn't do that because she was concerned her roommate would eat it. So I had her pack one for her as well. Given a choice of pies to take home, she opted for the mince meat, much to my surprise. We did this for several years and always enjoyed having them. The Chinese girl came more than once, and I was amazed at how much an 85 lb. girl could eat. She always volunteered to help clean up, too.
I'll let you know how the sleep study goes. I am taking my own pillow because hospital pillows are just awful. They demand you wear pajamas and I haven't owned a pair in more than 50 years, so it will be yoga pants and a tee for me. I hope I get some answers that will be diagnostic and that don't require too many changes for me. Fingers crossed since I would never be able to tolerate a face mask.

Interesting ear piercing stories. Ken did mine while he was in medical school, don't remember which year but he took me someplace at the college where he could get sterile equipment. Betrayal, will be interested in your plastic surgeon experience. Mine are in great need of repair. Ken used to do it in his office but when I went to a GS here, they said I need a plastic surgeon and I never followed up. Do you mind if I ask whether insurance covers it? I'd have to sleep in a chair because I'm definitely not a back sleeper.
I felt I didn't sleep well when I had a sleep study either but it was enough evidently. Thankfully I found when I lost 30 lbs. I no longer needed a C-pap. Great news because the mask really made me claustrophobic. I certainly would be in line for Inspire which wasn't an option 15 years ago.
Our grocery stores here had a real race to the bottom as far as turkey prices went so I was able to get several (without a minimum purchase which is what they have done in the past). Also got some lovely-looking boned turkey breasts at what I thought was a great price. Many of our clients are seniors and don't want a 15 lb. bird. Our give-away starts Monday and it will be a zoo. They have started giving clients assigned times to come and that has helped. Non-clients are invited to come on Wednesday if they have anything left. So sad that many are going hungry while we build a golden ballroom.
Harley - somehow I missed your trip. Have a wonderful time. Travel all you can while you can. We did and there wasn't much left on our bucket list when we had to quit.
We're having Thanksgiving at friends. All we have been assigned is a pecan pie and a family favorite corn casserole. I think Larry will have enough food for twice as many as are going - another sad waste in MHO.
Thanksgiving was one of my favorite holidays growing up. All the relatives gathered at my aunt's farmhouse and the cousins had a slumber party. They had a big room with multiple beds which I suspect at one point was used by workers who came during harvest but by the time we went there, my uncle was mainly a pig farmer.
Have a wonderful weekend and holiday week. Hope all your football teams win but I sincerely doubt mine will.

Re: Can we have a forum for "older" people with bc?
I had a sleep study done a year ago. I thought it wouldn't work as I don't sleep well but surprisingly I did fine—or at least good enough they were able to get sufficient data. I forced myself to lie very still and eventually fell asleep. I even had to get up once and it all worked out fine. They discovered I did not have apnea so I things went on the same for me.
My sister-in-law is cooking Thanksgiving dinner this year and says not to bring anything unless my family wants something special. She has cooked in years past and does a good job although my DH and DD prefer my stuffing. My BIL is pre-diabetic so she cooks for him but also includes a sugar version of her salad for us. It will be fine. She knows my limitations and is very helpful to me. We actually lived with them for three months when we first moved here until we were able to find a house. I have the fixings that I can do a small version of a traditional dinner for the four of us later if we want. I would really like to bring something and need to think more about it.
Re: I say YES. YOU say NO....Numero Tre! Enjoy!
The Other 98% here’s a point in every political era where a country has to decide what it’s willing to normalize. And somehow, in America, we’ve spent nearly a decade pretending that Donald Trump’s endless stream of insults — the “piggy,” the “nasty woman,” the “horseface,” the “slob,” the “dog,” the “low-IQ,” the childish nicknames — are just part of the show. A sideshow. A quirk. A “Trump being Trump” moment. But at a certain point, you have to stop calling it theatrics and name it for what it is: a pattern. A lifelong pattern of belittling women, smearing opponents, and dragging public discourse into the gutter because he can’t win an argument any other way. This is a man who spent his rise to power mocking women’s bodies, sneering at female journalists, degrading female politicians, attacking marginalized people, and calling anyone who challenged him “weak,” “ugly,” or “stupid.” He did it in tabloids, he did it on television, he did it on Twitter, and now he does it on the world stage. It’s not an accident. It’s a strategy. A tactic. A brand. But here’s the part he never sees coming: every time he fires off a new “piggy,” the country isn’t thinking about the person he’s trying to insult — they’re thinking about him. And the long, messy trail of headlines, quotes, scandals, lawsuits, and photos that follow him like a storm cloud he can’t outrun. The internet doesn’t forget. It doesn’t forget the recordings, the bragging, the comments about women “bleeding from wherever,” the body-shaming, the cruelty, the obsession with humiliating anyone who stands up to him. It doesn’t forget who he posed with in the ’90s, who he called a “terrific guy,” who he socialized with before the world learned the truth. It doesn’t forget the sudden backtracking once public outrage finally caught up.And it certainly doesn’t forget that every time he tries to paint someone else as immoral or disgraceful, it’s his own archives that slam back into the spotlight. But the biggest problem isn’t the hypocrisy. It’s the exhaustion.Because while he clings to schoolyard insults as if they’re a governing philosophy, Americans are living through economic anxiety, skyrocketing costs, brutal cuts to social programs, collapsing safety nets, and a daily sense of uncertainty about the future. People are fighting to keep a roof over their heads, to afford medication, to keep their kids safe in school — and the man who wants the White House back is still stuck in the same ugly tactics he used on reality TV.At some point, a country has to say: enough is enough.Enough with the misogyny.Enough with the bullying.Enough with the cheap insults that distract from real suffering.Enough with a political culture warped around one man’s insecurities and his need to tear others down.Trump’s insults aren’t “edgy.” They’re not “tough.” They’re not “authentic.” They’re the same tired script he’s been recycling for decades — a script meant to make everyone smaller so he can feel bigger. And the truth is, the louder he tries to demean others, the clearer the nation sees the outline of his own past — with all its shadows, scandals, and consequences that no amount of name-calling can erase.Americans deserve better than a man who can’t speak without demeaning someone. They deserve leadership rooted in reality, not ridicule. And the era of shrugging and saying “that’s just Trump” is long, long over.
Re: how about drinking?
NM, I'm sorry about all the turmoil surrounding getting your mother settled. And no ocean view? D%*m! I loved that view. And it sounds like her space will be more cramped in Assisted Living.
My blood work was all good except for the A1c, which was 6.4 and the Triglycerides, which was higher than 150, in the High category. I'm borderline diabetic and have been taking a common med twice a day for several years. Kidney function and liver numbers were all in the normal range. I remember reading that Triglycerides can be affected by recent diet and my recent diet included Popeye's fried chicken, a once or twice a year treat.
I'm back "on the wagon" with my diet with the determination to drop some lbs. Travel for Thanksgiving will interfere but I'll do my best. I would feel so much better about 15 lbs. lighter. I'm skipping the cocktail before dinner and enjoying a glass of white wine instead. One plus is more deep sleep, according to my watch gadget.
Happy weekend to all.

Words are singularly the most powerful force available to humanity. We can choose to use this force constructively with words of encouragement, or destructively using words of despair. Words have energy and power with the ability to help, to heal, to hinder, to hurt, to harm, to humiliate and to humble.
