Re: Starting radiation October 2025? Let's support each other!
I had very few side effects from radiation. I was a little more tired than usual, but still got out for my walk every single morning,
I had a little redness with radiation but no major skin irritation. I used calendula cream a couple times a day and used aquafor at bedtime. My oncologists office also gave me a prescription cream to apply once a day & they found that really helped prevent skin irritation. You are not supposed to apply anything 4 hours before your treatment. I applied Calendula as soon as I was done, before getting dressed.
I read on here to started using the calendula cream 2 weeks before you start rads- so I put that on once a day.
My radiation oncologist office gave me a bunch of samples of different things to try. I really liked the calendula cream and repeatedly saw that recommended on here.
Good luck to everyone starting radiation this month and hope it goes smoothly.

Hi everyone! I just finished a week ago, and wanted to drop in to offer a word of encouragement. You got this! Going every single day can be a drag, but the time passed quickly for me.
As for being ready, there's nothing special that you need to do. Each rad onc has different protocols including what deodorant you can wear, so that's a question to ask. They'll give you instructions on how to care for your skin. Fatigue is definitely a side effect most feel, but that might not kick in until several days or even a few weeks after you start rads.
Happy to answer questions if you have them!

Re: Can we have a forum for "older" people with bc?
Taco, I love the photo! Thanks for posting it. There was even some turnout in red Louisiana.

My brother "took his inflatable frog for a walk.
Prayer group for USA starting at church Wednesdays. Pope is tightening his grip on Opus Dei. Saying some strong messages about the current situation.

Our rally was I think 3.5 miles long, lined up between the sidewalks and road, but out of any pedestrians way. A real lot of support, which was great. But the few large pickup trucks that gave us the finger, I gave them the peace sign. ✌️ We also had some teen boy yell out the passenger window, “go to work!” 🤷♀️
Today we spent some time finishing up winterizing the back yard by removing anything that needs to be stored in the garage, and putting it away. SO raked up all the fallen pine needles, they’re long and you can almost “skate” on them they’re so slippery. The yard looks good until the next heavy winds.
I was cooking a turkey dinner today so I ran to the store for last minute things. As I drove away from the store I could hear something flapping on my car. I pulled into the first side street to check my tires; all fine. Then I was on hands & knees looking under it to see if I picked up something; all clear. I drove home slowly, glad it wasn’t far.
Then I stated googling what would cause the noise. I watched about 3 YouTube videos but didn’t hear anything that I thought was my car noise. I had $$$ dancing in my head, knowing we’d need to take it in for service before we leave for FL.
I text my cousin, god bless him, explained everything. He said he was dropping his son off for work and would stop by. He got here and we took it for a ride. He had me pull on a side street and park. Then had me turn the wheel as far right as I could, as he sat on the ground with a flash light looking, and as far left. Passengers side first, then drivers side. Then he told me to straighten out my wheel and back up real slow. He got in the car and said see if it’s still there. We drive up the street, and it was gone. He opened up his hand and showed me what looked like electrical tape, but made out of a cloth and super sticky. It was stuck to my tire and every rotation it was slapping the wheel well. You know if I took it in $$$ were ready to dance! So fortunate it was that easy.
That’s my day. Clean up from the turkey dinner was a lot, but oh so worth it. Lots of laundry, it’s strip the bed day too. It was in the 70’s and very windy, but a good day. Rain forecasted for all day tomorrow, heavy at times.
Update on gf dh: yesterday about 5pm they said Mt Sinai had a bed. They’d be transporting him down about 7:30. Gf son offered to go down with her. They left 6:50 AM today, arrived to taxi to the hotel, then uber to the hospital. Gf son left around 4 to catch the train back home. He arrived back home safely. She got back to her hotel on her own, via Uber, and was being brave going out to dinner alone. We text and by 9 she was going to bed. The hotel has breakfast included until 9:30; she’s hoping to eat & head to the hospital by 10-10:30. Her dh procedure is scheduled for Tuesday. If all goes well they could be headed back up here on Friday.
Looks like Blue Jays are going to have a game 7!! I’ve been rooting for them.
