Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Thirsty Thursday! Gorgeous day today, temps in the 20's, wind chill only down to 17 degrees, feels absolutely balmy out there. I even shoveled off the overnight snow in shirt sleeves and not bundled up in a heavy coat! Of course, it only takes about 3 minutes. Sadie was happy to wander around the yard and sniff for new smells for a while this morning. Got an e-mail with the first class details this morning, going to have a class of 4 students for this one. Usually classes are 30 or so. This is going to be so much fun, I am getting so excited to be starting this.
Illi--WOW, what a puzzle! I can see where that one is going to be a beast. I'm glad you work at a job where you can stay home when the weather is bad. Snow is bad enough, but ice is just awful. I'm listening to the scanner and there are a lot of cars off the road and several roll overs due to icy roads (and too fast travel speed, I'm thinking). 3 or 4 roads closed off by responding law enforcement, waiting for DOT to get trucks out with sand and salt. I hope you won't need that table for a while.
Mema--Thanks for the heads up on CynCyn's B-day! What can we do to help get you out of the wabbit hole?
CynCyn--HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!
Cammy--So glad Leslie is home. I know she feels miserable right now. It's wonderful that she has Katie and Jodie to help. Sounds like work is really busy still. I'm so glad your nephew has you to help!

Hi friends- the week is going fast and seeing more people in the lounge. Work stuff is really starting to move now and have my atty working on a contract renewal with one client and another new contract related to the award we got last week with one of my collaborating partners coming after some conversations they are going to have next week. My atty who helps me says "wow, you are going to be busy in 2018". Yes, that is the plan!
Today is prof org day- they are all getting started up again with their regular meetings. I am going to a healthcare luncheon today and then a project management dinner tonight. Time to get my networking going here in the new year!
And I am down 5 lbs already on the new diet (whoot). Doing okay on it although I swam yesterday and noticed I did not have the same mojo I normally do, because I am not eating the starches right now (potatoes, pasta, bread, etc.) But I was able to visualize the fat burning as I swam though. There were scuba guys in the pool swimming under me in the deep side of the pool yesterday which made for an interesting experience while I did my laps! Today I will be a bit more challenged on the diet with the luncheon and dinner being provided and hope there will be some salad available for lunch and some chicken and veggies for dinner (usually the case).
Karen- you are certainly entitled to feel sorry for yourself. I certainly did many times going through treatment and with a cold on top, your body must feel such an assault. Like Goldie said, remember this is all temporary and you WILL get through this and things will get better friend. Hoping you are feeling better soon. Lots of rest and fluids.
Cami- I am sorry that Leslie has the pain from the TEs. I remember my sister saying how uncomfortable that was after her MX. And lots of drains too to juggle. Hopefully her pain can be managed and it sounds like you have a lot of help. Jodie is the one married to Ron, right? I know this is SO HARD for you to watch friend, being your DD and just knowing so much about this chit.
Sending you much love girlfriend
NM- I used to sling cocktails in college for one of my PT jobs and used to crack up when people would order drinks with kinky names. Sex on the beach was a common one and when someone would order that with an "I would like sex on the beach please" to which a usual response from me was "wouldn't we all?" That would usually get me an extra good tip if I cracked people up! Never heard of Sex on a Snowbank, but brrr.
Ill- I am glad you work for someone who gets home unsafe it is to travel on the ice over there. I lived in TX years ago and ice storms were not uncommon and worked while in grad school and remember those terrifying rides in the commuter van pool during icy days. I have a real aversion to ice now as I rolled a vehicle on black ice in the northeast (and walked away unharmed, lucky.....) It is warming up here again and hopefully coming your way next.
That is a huge puzzle. I remember those cool swirled lollypops from childhood too, great memory!
Dara- glad to hear the new job is underway as well as training. Hope this one works out perfectly!
Mema- you are entitled to remain in the rabbit hole as long as you want. All this is very hard and just know we care. Share as you wish or lurk, we get it.
Chi- I have seen Quora too and saw some interesting discussions there about narcissism. They got my e-mail and I got bombarded with stuff so I opted out.
It has been very cold this week, but warming up again so they say and rumors have it a much better shot at moisture this weekend. We can only hope.
Wishing everyone a good day and catch up again here this weekend!

Hi to all, and newbie Mistyeyes as well. Spent Sat - Tues in Clearwater Beach, FL and there was much drinking involved. Met up with sister for a special 70th birthday celebration for a dear friend. Had to have 2 Irish Coffees at lunch on Sat as it was a little nippy (or nipply, as the case might be). Birthday bash was Sat evening - wonderful catered apps, dinner & cake. One of the guests owns a winery in Richmond, CA - we had his wines as well as prosecco for toasting. Entertainment provided by the many accomplished guests/singers and guest pianist on the baby grand in the family room. It was a nonstop 2+ hours of requests for various Broadway musical hits and also included a rousing rendition of the Hallelujah Chorus. Lots of fun! Back to the office now. Lunch is over, so gotta run.

Celia, sounds like you had a great time. Weather was pleasant, I hope! What a celebration tho!
Jazzy, getting our cool down on Saturday, high in the low 40's. I know some of you would love to have that kind of temp. I think too, we might have a chance, slight one, but a chance, of some precip.
NM, here are some pics of the garden. Everything is in these water bags. I think you bought a few?
^^^ These do the best, in the sun the most and right next to the Shady Lady. So a tad warmer in there, and then the blocks will absorb some heat to keep the soil warm.
This is a red/green leaf lettuce. I just picked the other day, so things are small now with not a lot on them.
^^^ Obviously a red leaf lettuce.
^^^ And some beets. I've been eating the leaves, therefor they won't produce beets. But I do have some that I won't pick the leaves and let them produce some beets.

Great step in the right direction Jazzy, thanks for the article. Although, I do hope the “designed for those over 50” won’t make it out of the question for those of us on the younger side, seems like so many are being dxd in their 30’s & 40’s too.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy TGIF day! Sadie and I had a lovely sleep in this ayem. Slept till almost 8 ayem! I did go out to a wine tasting and dinner last night that was a lot of fun. We went to a little place I haven't been before, very eclectic, microbrewery beer based but with a nice selection of local wines and some meads and finger foods. I got a Maine Lobster Rangoon (Deconstructed), which was Rangoon filling made with lobster instead of crab and served as a dip with pita chips that was soooo yummy! And not badly priced, either! The service was inattentive after the food was served (I would have gotten a second glass of wine and probably a dessert, but they never came around again), we had to go up to the bar to the bar to get our checks. But it was a really nice time visiting with some people I know and getting to know a couple more. Our 6:30 to 7:30 dinner went until almost 9 peeyem, but who cares? And temps in the 30's today, so going to try to get lots of laundry done while I can hang it out and get it dry the same day.
Illi--Good for you for leading by example! Around here when the State Police and others recommend people stay off the roads many drivers take that as a challenge!
Goldie--First teaching job is the 29th actually, but I got the e-mail with all the details the other day. Today in the e-mail is a request for availability through the spring and summer. I didn't think there would be many classes run during the summer but apparently there are. There is even a chance to travel to teach, wouldn't that be a blast? What a great way to get to see some of New York City that would be. Well, I need to concentrate on doing a good job here and now if I want to take advantage of the traveling opportunity.
Jazzy--Hooray for a busy 2018! Boy, a luncheon and a dinner in one day, that can really sidetrack a healthy eating plan. Congrats on the weight loss, that is fantastic. With all the attention on good nutrition and health eating these days you'd think the folks who cater these luncheons and dinners would pay attention and make sure there is healthy option like salad served for people who are seriously watching their nutrition. Some of the cocktail names I've run across are simply awful, if not outright pornographic. Sometimes I wonder if the names are made up for the effect of saying such things in public!
Welcome, mistyeyes! Pull up a bar stool and tell us about yourself, or at least what your favorite drink is.
Celia--Sounds like that was one fantastic birthday celebration! One of the best kind, it sounds like.Informal but well organized.
Goldie-- Yes, I have some of those, somewhere. I need to find them and check them out this coming season, replace them if necessary, and think about some into fall gardening this year. What I really need here, though, is a good cold frame to extend the season. I'll have to do some more research on that and maybe make myself one this year. Those greens look lovely!
Jazzy--interesting about the blood test for multiple cancers. Raises a lot of questions in my mind, but I'm sure there will be lots more research and thought going into this before it becomes widely available.
Ille--It's getting to be a crazy world in cancer diagnosis and treatment. I'm sure the test would be available to the under 50 crowd eventually. People will demand it.

Kim, now that's what I call a meal in a glass!
With the duck breast I pan-seared tonight, 2014 Morgon. Bison rib-eye tomorrow, so that'll call for a Cabernet. Bob brought home a box of Malbec (despite a cellar full of wine--and two racks in the dining room I curated with bottles he can freely quaff--he complains I don't let him "guzzle" the quality stuff--darn right, that's for drinking). I'll pass, thanks.
0 -
Oh boy, where is everyone?
Kim, I love those water bags. However, you will not be able to get them from me. The couple that make them moved, and are not in production right now. She said maybe in the fall. We were gonna have like 5000 of them made to sell on our website, but they have a patent on the product. I could have had them made super cheap, way cheaper than what I get them for from her.
LOL at Bob wanting to guzzle the good stuff!
We went to the movies, saw Commuter with Liam Neeson. Was just an ok movie, he's done better ones. Got me a new trail cam to set outside, to see whats getting into the scraps I throw in my fire pit!

Good morning, Loungettes! Happy Saturday! Got the sun peeking through the clouds this ayem, but the weather guessers are calling for some snow or rain. I give up trying to figure it all out. I'm just going to go by what I see when I look out the window and step out on the deck. I think I can do just as good a job as the people getting paid to guess the weather!
Chi--Your poor hubby, he sounds so abused in the wine guzzling department!
Goldie--I'm pretty sure I still have the water bags I ordered before, it's just a matter of finding them. There are a couple of places in the basement I haven't cleaned out yet, mostly cuz it's outdoor stuff and it makes more sense to look at that in the spring when I can decide to use it and put it to work or toss it if I'm not going to use it. There is a huge number of plastic plant pots of all sizes, those will be hard to part with, but that's a project for spring. I would love to have a trail cam to see what goes on in the field in back of my house, especially at night.
Teka--Sadie does well with windy weather, but she can get a bit nervous with thunder and fireworks. More so with fireworks.

Good morning friends- Jazzy got hit with a nasty bug that has had her down since Friday afternoon. I almost think it could be the "flu light" as I had chills, severe body aches, a headache, some congestion and a sore throat. But never really saw a fever develop- been checking that regularly. My normal body temp is 97.7 and did see it go up to 98.6 yesterday, but never higher. The body aches were really bad though and the exhaustion too, not like I have had in a long time. The sore throat started last week, and by an apt on Friday, I could tell more was happening so I came home and went to bed and pretty much been there since that time. Lots of sleep between night time and napping Friday to yesterday. Today I feel like I may be pulling out of this finally. I took this very seriously because of how bad this flu is and people dying. I have had the pneumonia shot awhile back too because of asthma.
I had a good week otherwise with some prof org connections/networking and other good things happening. I do feel behind on a few fronts and going to work on some things here at home today for my taxes/biz but will be taking it easy too. I came off the diet Friday knowing that is not what my body needs at the moment. I can resume that when I am feeling better, but still enjoying some good healthy food. I reintroduced some things that are easy to eat like yogurt. Yes, I sort of lost my appetite along the way too?
Been reading but not posting and hope the rest of you are staying healthy. Hugs to anyone out there who is furloughed with the gov shutdown and who has to work with no pay right now too.
Have a good funday sunday and more to follow as I recoup over here!

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Sunday Funday! Bright sunshine here, temps gotup above freezing yesterday, lots of snow and ice gone again. Got a lot of clutter cleaned out of the bedroom, mostly clothes that haven't been put away properly, and the bedroom feels so much lighter and brighter. I really need to get back in the groove of decluttering and cleaning again. Poor Sadie didn't know what to do, she wanted to be with me, so she tried sitting in the bedroom doorway, but I was chucking stuff that didn't belong in the bedroom or needed to be taken to the laundry room and kept hitting her with them. Eventually she snorted at me and wandered off back to the living room. When I got done and wandered back to the living room myself she gave me the cold shoulder for quite a while. I guess I need to remember that I cannot use whatever spot she has chosen to occupy for cleaning purposes!
Jazzy--So sorry to hear you caught a bug! You are doing a great job taking care of yourself and giving your body all it needs to recover a fast as possible. Also glad you had a good week work wise before the bug hit.

Teka, my DH cooked breakfast yesterday too! What is a Western Egg Sammy? I got the trail cam, only $60.00. Was a bit chilly and super windy here yesterday, so didn't mess with it. It does require 8 AA batteries. I will also post any pictures of what I see!
NM, don't toss the water bags. I would take them and pay for the shipping on them. As I can't get anymore. I'm excited about using the camera. Not sure if that will get done today or not. We did get some snow and not too warm out today and for the next few days. Great remedy for Jazzy!
Jazzy, glad you recognized early on that you were getting sick and could take care of yourself properly! Do continue to take it easy and get better.
Cami, it's good to see Les on FB. Tells me she's at least feeling up to that.

NM- so funny, one of my guy friends also told me to take two shots of whiskey and go to bed and I would be better. Lol. I really hate whiskey though.....
I love grand marnier with slices of oranges for my sickness cocktail (I need to get some oranges......)
0 -
When I was younger, I used to make my own "homemade NyQuil:" a couple of Tylenol, Sudafed, and a chaser of good Armagnac. (Now the Armagnac would keep me up all night with heartburn and the Sudafed would spike my BP).
Jazzy, sounds like you've got what my mom (and my old FP back in the day) would have called "the grippe." If you had the flu shot, it could actually be flu but with much milder symptoms due to that. (Not worth wasting Tamiflu on, because that stuff can have serious side effects and should be reserved for unmistakeable flu symptoms--which are severe and sudden).
0 -
Chi- I think you are right and do remember my mother using that term too. I felt much better today, even able to get out for some errands. I am being careful though as several have said the bigger flu started like this, got better, and then they got slammed. Being careful as the flu is a deadly one. But jazzy thinks she will live!
Cami- hope things are okay with you and Leslie is coming through the worst of it?
0 -
Glad you're getting better. I'm feeling very "sinus-y," but that's because the barometer is dropping and a storm's about to hit.
Late lunch was leftover sashimi, so I had a couple oz. of Mumm Napa Brut Reserve.
Dinner was a bison ribeye, so with it an oz. of 2010 Signorello Cabernet Sauvignon.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Monkey Day! Woke up to a dusting of snow this ayem. But just a dusting, nothing to worry about. Supposed to get snow showers off and on today. Maybe some accumulating stuff tomorrow. Funny when temps in the 20's and 30's feels really warm! Sadie had a grand time outside most of the day yesterday supervising the neighborhood.
Goldie--I don't plan to get rid of the water bags, I plan to use them! If I change my mind about that I'll get in touch and send them to you. 8 AA batteries for the trail cam? Sounds like a lot, but what do I know. Can't wait to see the pics you get.
Jazzy--My mother once had a doctor give her a recipe for cough/cold medicine: 2 tablespoons of honey and 2 tablespoons of lemon juice dissolved in 1/4 cup hot water and 2 tablespoons of whiskey. Take 1 to 2 tablespoons every 30 minutes for coughing and cold symptoms. According to Mom it was very effective! I think I like the Grand Marnier with orange slices better, though!
Chi--That homemade NyQuil sounds potent! My Dad used to call winter illnesses like this "the grippe" too! I vaguely remember my grandmother (his mom) saying the same thing.
Jazzy--I'm glad you are aware of the way this year's flu likes to come back hard after an initial, lighter course. Lots of rest!

Good morning friends - feeling better and better now. I got out yesterday for a few groceries and some bird seed (my birds are cold and hungry and I was out of supplies!) Cold out so I bundled up and went to run those errand for an hour. Slept well last night and busy today with business things. I thought I had an apt at the house this am but it is next Monday (whew!)
Going to stay in today and focus on things here and continue to have time to rest as I need to. Don't want a set back. By tomorrow, I think I will be back to my normal routines. Thanks for all your care and support here!
I have my MO apt this week on Friday. Blood work done and results were in the portal last night and feel ready to go! I will have my Prolia shot too, probably the last one for the last few months of the AIs. Two months from today, I am off those meds! Planning some celebrations in March for that, along with my birthday too.
Goldie- we got a bunch of snow between Sat night into yesterday, mostly in the mountains and so glad for the moisture. There was some snow and rain here in town sat night at my house, woke up to a wet patio. That is the first major snow we have had all winter and hope for more, although I see nothing else in the forecast. Did you get the storm? Dang girl, that is cold for out here.
NM- believe it or not, I forgot to get oranges at the store yesterday! LOL. Sounds like Sadie is enjoying her role in the neighborhood. Stay warm and safe today.
Did you know there is a dog flu going around? My sisters golden is sick and she had been to the groomer last week and not well a few days later. A friend told me this is going around. Be careful with Sadie. My sister has her golden girl going to the vet and we hope she is better soon. We all love her so much.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Twofer Tuesday. The news report this ayem is starting out with the story of a woman on the way to the hospital to have labor induced whose car went off the road and rolled over, she was killed, the baby was delivered by emergency C-section, is in critical condition. When I was working in Neonatal ICU many years ago we had the same situation. I remember how hard it was for the husband/father, especially when the baby died a few days later. Such a horrible thing to have happen. Black ice is being blamed for this accident. OK, now they are talking about the flu season and how bad this year's H3N3 flu is. And how most of the cases are in nursing homes and assisted living facilities, both places that have high percentages of flu vaccination of residents. Doesn't sound like the flu vaccine is doing what it's supposed to be doing.
Goldie--nope, not planning to toss the water towers, just the plastic pots. I am hoping yours are working hard to protect your plants, 2 degrees is cold for plants!
Jazzy--Glad you are feeling better. And so glad to hear that you are almost done with the AI, going to be a good time for celebrating when your birthday rolls around! Oh, no, to forget the oranges! Kind of funny, sort of like forgetting the one item you went to the store to get in the first place. Sadie does like supervising the neighborhood, and making sure everyone knows what is going on. I had heard something about dog flu,and just watched the report you linked to. Right now Sadie isn't around any other dogs except for the occasional escapee in the neighborhood. I'm hoping that relative isolation will keep her safe from it. I haven't heard that it's around here yet, but I'm working on the assumption that it is. Got to do some research on the canine flu vaccine now.

Jazzy, no storm here and more snow in the mountains here as well. Altho I am at 6000', we just got a dusting. Glad you are starting to feel better.
NM, horrible story about the pregnant mom. Hopefully this baby will make it. My plants survived. They don't look like they got hit AT ALL! They look perfect, just like in the pictures I posted. Amazing! Interesting cocktail, almost like a smoothie!
My gooness, where is everyone????

Good morning friends- well I am feeling like the bug is back again, woke up feeling tired and a bit achy again so the crud is still with me. But I knew it might make a return. Working on a contract renewal, tax stuff, and filing so I will continue on with that today but no trip back to the pool yet. I have to be sure I am well by that MO apt on Friday.
NM- that is a super sad story about the mom loosing her life and that baby having to begin life without her. I hope the baby was far enough to term to do okay. Devastating for the family. I rolled an SUV on black ice back in the 1990's and was lucky to walk away unscathed, but know that is usually not the case.
Goldie- dusting here too in our valley, the foothills around the mountains got more. Been cold here and feels more like real winter.
I talked to my BFF last night who is almost a week in to her 3 weeks of rads. She is using the cremes and say it all helps and seeing her RO today. We had a good talk about how we have to adjust things during cancer treatment to make it all a priority. I told her the rads would go quickly and she said it is. She is starting to feel a bit of fatigue and did say there may be more of that with time, but it will pass and sometimes you don't know how long it will remain with you even after you are done. She said she is already feeling she needs to make some changes in her life going forward.
Wishing everyone a good tuesday and hope all the sisters here are doing well.
