Well, good morning NM! Enjoy your half day of work, Sadie will be funcused yet once again! DH has tried acupuncture, chiro, PT and pain management. Just so strange how quickly he is feeling better. Almost normal! His PT therapist suggested an ortho, while our doctor recommended neuro. I guess we will go with what the doctor recommends.

Just busy here with work, trying to get my paperwork done for the business which DH messed up, due to all the drugs I assume, sending me on wild goose chases looking for orders that were already where they were supposed to be, but I had to searching our orders, Amazon, Ebay, Pay Pal, our merchant account and I'm still not done! I leave on the 4th so I want to get some cleaning and packing do ne.

On a sad note, we lost Wendy3 this past weekend. She belonged to a FB group that I am on, using MMJ.

I never knew Wendy3, but may her memory be for a blessing.

Last night with grilled lamb I had 2010 Trinitas Old Vine Zinfandel.

Wendy was also on one of the liver threads, there were 3 women just from that thread that had passed, I think within just a week or so.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Thirsty Thursday! It was a beautiful day yesterday until the rain came through, then it was really raining for a few minutes, then the clouds raced off.The temp has dropped a bit, but is expected to rebound to the 80's tomorrow. There was a frost warning 2 nights ago. Gotta love springtime in Maine! Memorial day is coming up and the lilacs are just starting to bud in most places. Usually lilacs are in full bloom for Memorial Day. Things are a little bit behind this year, it seems. The bugs are out, especially the black flies, but a few skeeters, too, so I need to get the screen up on the kitchen door today. That will also cut down on the number of little birdies that get into the house--had to shoo one out yesterday afternoon, poor little thing! Sadie went nuts trying to catch the poor thing.

Goldie--Yup, I caught Sadie sleeping when I got home yesterday!Poor baby has no idea what to expect when I leave these days. But she seems happy to see me, so I guess it's all ok in the end. Are you talking about how quickly DH is feeling better after stopping the pain medications? That's odd, but good. Maybe a consult with both the Neuro and the Ortho, just for the information? So sorry to hear about Wendy3.

Chi--ooh, lamb! That reminds me, the fiddleheads are just coming out, time for my springtime ritual of lamb and fiddlehead stew. I bet the Zin was delish!

Good morning friends- I am behind checking in here (missed you last weekend), but wanted to pop in and wish everyone a good holiday weekend. How did Memorial Day get her so fast?

Been busy with lot of things at home, with the gardens, networking/prog org events, and more. The weather has been nice, and we finally got a good dump of rain (and hail) on Monday. Hopefully more rain with time and monsoons will be here by July.

I am heading to the hot springs for the long weekend and wish you all a good one. Will check in again after the long weekend!

    Mornin',

Lori I'm sorry about Wendy 3, everyone gets to know each other so well, it's not easy. I can't get over ur DH---he just stopped all meds like in one day??? How impressive is right, I cant imagine just stopping, I don't blame him but still I hope now he finds real relief. Ur poor mom, I'm sure u know that meds do that to people too, horrible but dreams that seem real and some time plain hallucinations that seem very real, not that that's the reason, but I saw that with my dad a lot and my kids have seen it with me a few times <they said> I do remember some, but not all. This was weeks after starting something new, not right away. Just thinking out loud. I think. Lori I didn't go to the restaurant Sat. Just a goofy day on my part.

Oh A Martyism <my SIL> He has gone back to work, but yesterday he was trimming bushes and lost his balance and fell into poison ivy. Of course we did LOL but it's good Leslie knows about all this skin stuff and got things to take care of it right away. I was telling my sister and she started LOLing immediately <we are a sick family> and both of us couldn't help it. She was going to come over today, but I told er Leslie really wasn't up to it yet, so we're planning on next week---we still haven't celebrated our BDs yet and we always exchange gifts.

Kim I heard it was going to be really warm here this weekend, but I don't know how warm, knowing the weather we'll probably go right into summer after this holiday, well we had about 3 days of spring so far.

Well Jodies having a party this weekend and Leslie's supposed to go to WI, I hope everything goes as planned, cuz Joey and I are already planning ours.

Wow I can't believe June is almost here, it was just Christmas and now Lori u are leaving soon.

    I'll be back later

Yikes, Cami--poor Marty just can't catch a break.

No alc. last night. Today Bob wanted me to bring up some white wines from the basement to chill--but all we have down there that's white are sparklers, dessert wines (you can't guzzle sweet stuff), and way, way old ones probably oxidized by now. We have a couple cases to pick up from Cellars from the last tasting & wine dinner, and much of it is white. At this point, we're not buying any more reds, no matter how yummy--we're drowning in them. Running neck & neck with the sparklers, of which Mumm Napa sends us 3 every other month. And Gordy has a case and a half of microbrews from a given him by a friend whose brewery that closed (by law, can't sell them).

OK , I just checked and saw Jazy is going away for the weekend...Yahoo Jazzy u'll have such a nice time and just think of nothing but u and itll be fine.

Kim I guess Sadie has u all figured out, when u get home u get home and she's happy the earlier the better.

Whoa Sandy all the wines u have, u can spend a day down there just picking one out. I'd actually have fun doing that. But I did think the older the wine the better it is or am I living a myth.OK, OK I know nothing about wine, but I do think u know that by now.

Cami, for some red wines with a lot of body (when you swirl, you can actually see them trickle slowly down the insides of the glass--they are said to have "legs") & tannins (the stuff that makes your mouth pucker and your teeth feel sorta chalky), it can take years, even decades to reach their peak--and even after that they will still be delicious for a long time. That'd be Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz/Syrah (especially from the northern Rhône and parts of Australia), Sangiovese (the grape from which Chianti is made), Tempranillo (ditto for Rioja), Barolo, Brunello, etc. Often Merlot, Malbec and lesser known red grapes are blended in to make them more complex and drinkable earlier, especially in Bordeaux and domestic blends ("Meritages") made to resemble Bordeaux. Some Boredeaux from the Medoc sub-regions can age well for 20-30 years or more--the best wines from some vintages like 1986 won't reach peak for 50 years and will still hold up for a century. (We have one bottle like that, Mouton Rothschild 1986, that we will never live to drink and Gordy may end up bequeathing to his own kids when they grow up). Being Italian, you probably know that Chianti Classico and especially Riserva can age for a very long time--but that regular Chiantis or say, Barberas are meant to be drunk right away (and often are as common at dinner tables in Italy as water or iced tea are here).

Beaujolais can be drunk very young (like the Nouveau which is sold as soon as it's bottled a month or two after harvest and is at its' fruitiest then--but still drinkable for a year or so); as plain Beaujolais or Beaujolais-Villages, up to 3 yrs.; and individual village-named Beaujolais (Morgon, Brouilly, Fleurie, Moulin à Vent) can age for up to 5-10 years--the Moulin might go as long as 15. But all of them are ready to drink when offered for sale.

Finer Pinot Noirs, especially from northern Burgundy, generally should be drunk--or at least one bottle out of a case should be tested--within 20 years. The reds in the $10-20 range (Merlot, Malbec, Zinfandel, Valpolicella, etc.) are good for up to 5 years, but meant to be opened & enjoyed as soon as you buy them--though some pricier CA Zins can last up to 20 yrs.

White wines are trickier. Simpler dry whites like dryer RIesling (and those college staples Liebfraumilch and Zeller Schwartze Katz), Pinot Grigio, domestic Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc & Chenin Blanc, unoaked Chardonnay, Albariño, Grüner Veltliner, Gavi, Vermentino, Chablis, Soave are at their best for only a year or two after release, and will oxidize and taste "off" (not yet vinegar, but more funky) if aged very long. Most Rosés should be bought in spring and drunk by Halloween. Some heavily oaked CA Chardonnays and white Burgundies can last 10-15 years. And sweeter dessert wines--Sauternes, Vin Santo, non-sparkling Moscato, German Auslese Rieslings (and even sweeter ones) can last unopened for 20 years or more. Ports & sherries can last quite a while even after opening. (And depending on the year, many vintage ports can--and should--be aged for an extremely long time: 1983s are peaking, 1977s not yet ready to open).

As to tonight's DOTD, Bob got home early enough for us to go to Cellars for dinner and to pick up the wines we'd bought. With my pork chop, I had a La Galope Rosé. When we got home, I brought the whites, rosés and bubblies upstairs for drinking through the summer; the reds are safe in the car overnight and I'll bring them in tomorrow. Nursing the last of my Aperol Spritzer right now. Tomorrow night, cedar-planked Alaska salmon and Pinot Noir. (Yes, you can have red wine with fish--the right reds, the right fish).

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy TGIF day! Lovely sunny day, can't wait for it to warm up enough to make moving around the house more comfortable. Got lots of cleaning up to do, also got a lot of phone calls to make and errands to take care of. Went to a weather spotter training last night, learned a lot about thunderstorms and tornadoes, and particularly about the ones we get in Maine. What we here consider a "severe" thunderstorm is only middle of the scale meteorologically. I absolutely did not know that there was such a thing as a "spin up" tornado, that forms from the ground up in certain conditions--that happen to be common in parts of Maine. These tornados are small, and short lived, and are the kind of tornadoes we get here 4 or 5 times a year. I also did not know that a tornado could be invisible, that not all tornadoes have a visible condensation cloud. I thought tornadoes were crazy dangerous before, but now that I know they can sneak up on people the idea of being near one terrifies me! Fortunately I have my own personal severe weather forecaster--Miss Sadie hears or senses thunderstorms long before I can tell one is coming. When thunderstorm is coming she glues herself to my side and looks at me with an expression that says "I know I'm supposed to protect you from bad things, but I'm scared of this one and don't know what to do!" So I protect her instead. Small price to pay for all the cuddles and bed warming and foot warming and protection from critters and such she gives me.

Jazzy--hope your monsoons arrive as scheduled. Enjoy the hot springs weekend, wish I could hide in your suitcase!

Cammy--Yup, the weather is supposed to warmup starting today, and Memorial Day weekend is the traditional time when risk of overnight frosts and freezes are over. Going to start playing in my gardens this weekend. Poor Marty, falling into poison ivy can't be fun! But the mental picture is kind of funny.

Chi--it must be nice having a beg selection of wines tucked away. I'm getting my "cellar" started, got some roses and a sparkling wine I really like set aside, and add a little to the collection every so often. Tasting wines is so much fun. Wow, that is a great summary of how long to hold on to different wines. I'm pretty proud of myself for recognizing most of the grapes you mention! A couple years ago I would have been totally lost. I did not realize that the Roses should be drunk so quickly. Good thing I really like roses, I've got a dozen set aside in the basement!

i once experienced a "spin up" tornado back in 1992. It was a clear hot June day and I noticed clouds suddenly beginning to rise up on the horizon. (Later found out it's called "heat instability," which spawns most hot-weather severe storms). Went inside an appliance store kitty-corner from my office on lunch hour to buy a laserdisc player--anyone still have those? While shopping, I heard "tornado watch" on the radio being broadcast on the store's P.A. system. I'd become jaded by then, after 14 years in the Midwest. It means conditions are right for twisters to form. (First time I heard the phrase, I actually pulled down all the shades and moved away from the windows). Then while I waited in line to check out, the radio mentioned "tornado warning." That means a twister has already been spotted. Again, I thought, "naahh, we're too close to the lake for that." (Tornadoes historically almost never came within 5-6 miles of the lake shore). Someone broke into the radio report and said "Ring up all sales manually now--our Northbrook store just lost part of its roof, the system is down, and we're closing in 5 minutes." I finished writing a check, checked out, grabbed the laserdisc player and dashed to my car, parked across the street.

That clear blue sky was now a deep greyish-green, and leaves & trash were starting to swirl around the sidewalk, then around my ankles. Just as I put the player into the trunk and got into the car, the sky suddenly turned brown, sirens went off, and the leaves & debris began swirling upward and forming a spiral. I watched, fascinated, as the car began gently rocking and a pedestrian grabbed the post of a "no parking" sign just as the wind lifted his feet off the ground and he looked like a flag. Then everything stopped, the light turned green, and the guy was able to regain his footing and run indoors. I knew it was the eye, and it wouldn't last. So I dashed out of the car as I remote-locked it, and ran through the intersection. As I reached the building's revolving door the wind picked back up and nearly slammed me into it--and it spun fast enough that I staggered safely into the lobby. Elevator was working, so I took it up to the 4th floor, and entered my office suite. Everyone was gathered about 5' back of the windows, as leaves and trash were blowing past the windows. Suddenly it was over, and we were okay. (Friends in a south Loop high-rise weren't so lucky--one window blew in and they were still finding "crumbs" of safety glass in their books a week later).

Now, I still ignore "tornado watches," because they're so common and nothing ever comes of them around here, but "warnings" I take very seriously--I call the cats, grab the iPad or cellphone, and we dash down to the part of the basement further from the windows. I turn on live weather radar on a local news station's app, and go back upstairs only when the coast is clear. Five years ago, touchdowns were reported at adjacent lakefront neighborhoods, with dozens of uprooted trees. And three years ago, during a late Oct. Bar Show rehearsal in the CBA's building five blocks from the lake, online streams of the Bears game were interrupted by a tornado warning--one was headed for Soldier Field. We all gathered in a windowless center stairwell off the lobby until the danger had passed. The tornado had gone back up into the clouds just before crossing I-94 into the Loop. But before it did, it cut a swath through the far SW suburbs, devastating some tracts in towns W of Joliet.

Our own "IllinoisLady" lives down in southern IL on the eastern edge of the infamous "Tornado Alley." My recording engineer lives about an hour SW of her in Sparta, smack dab in the middle of it. The past few summers, surrounding towns had brutal twisters--but Sparta was (just barely) spared.

Good morning, Loungettes!Happy Saturday! Was happily puttering around the house yesterday when the power went out, and was out for a few hours. There was quite a bit of gusty wind, so I imagine something came down on some wires somewhere. It's eerie how quiet the house gets without electricity. Don't seem to have much ambition this ayem, hope that gets chased away by the coffee, I really want to get a whole list of things done today around the house.

Sadie says "good morning" to everyone!

Chi--holy moly, that sound terrifying! I'm not sure I could ever get to the point of ignoring Tornado watches, but if they are as common as you say, maybe I would get used to them. The whole idea of tornados just scares me silly. Way too unpredictable, way too devastating. I'm sure I'd have wet my pants if I'd been through that experience!

    Countess Bunty Rothschild's DOTD

Tornado: Create a Twister in Your Glass

    What You'll Need

    How to Make It

    1. Stir the liquors in a collins glass.
    2. Add sugar and stir again (but not too well).
    3. Add ice, then cola.
    4. Stir three times and serve with a straw.

Tip: Don't fill your glass completely with cola, but leave a little room on the top. This will prevent splashes and spills as you get your twister spinning.

It's All About the Effect. Ingredients really don't matter much with the Tornado because the drink is a spectacle that just happens to be drinkable. That means you should care more about the visual effect and the taste will take care of itself.

Ice and sugar are key to creating this twister in a glass. Notice that the recipe calls for just three ice cubes and that is to allow room for the flying debris to move around freely. When stirred, the ice and sugar will whirl around and it can be quite entertaining (especially if you've had a drink or two already).

We all know that tornados don't last forever and this one is no exception. The serving straw takes care of that and allows the drinker start up the twister whenever they like.

Enjoy it While it Lasts. The ice and sugar will only last so long under agitation. The sugar will eventually dissolve into the drink and the ice will melt faster. We typically fill a glass with ice to slow dilution and those three lonely cubes have a lot of work to do. Add in the swirling and they'll be gone before you know it.

NM, I've never had a bird in the house, but I have had many hummingbirds get into one of the buildings out in our little town. 2 so far just this week! I went out yesterday, the door wasn't open 2 minutes and here comes a hummer. I set one of my geraniums and a red coffee can at the entrance and he found his way out. Yes DH is feeling better. Has an appt. with ortho, not sure when. Pain management in a couple of weeks. He doesn't like the guy at all, but our doctor thinks it's best he keep the appt. as it may have something to do with getting referals to other specialists. It's just horrible the hoops we have to jump through for medical help. Amazing that Sadie knows the storms are coming before you do.

Jazzy, we don't want to hear about it! Just kidding, know you will have an awesome relaxing weekend. Enjoy my friend.

Cami, DH did just stop all meds. He didnt' like how they made him feel. He said he would rather hurt. Poor Marty and the poison ivy. I sure do hope Leslie and Marty can get away and you and Joey can have some time together.

    Cheers Janky!

Sandy, I too know nothing about wine, and not a wine drinker, so usually just skim over those posts. Glad you escaped the tornado, that had to be a tad scary!

Town day yesterday. Talked to mom last night, she is not sounding well at all. Didn't even want to talk on the phone. Been constipated and vomited yesterday and has refused the morphine. Breaks my heart, but she did this to herself. I'm almost afraid to call this morning. I hope she can at least hold on until I get there. But she is so ready, her QOL is nil!

    Mornin' Ladies,

Oh I'm skimming again, I'm back at work for this Holiday weekend, Lori I called my boss one of my favorite words with another word after it like lollipop, I hate working on holidays cuz I have to tell people how much it will be and it's a lot. Anyway

I feel so bad that ur mom didn't want to talk, but I'm sure too she's having a bad time especially now that she realizes what's going on. At first u think it's just temporary <in ur mind> then u really know, and after being pretty much in charge before, ur have no say in anything actually. And not everyone is like our Kim, that;'s what happens. But know there is really nothing u can do except what u are doing. But at least ur DH is taking charge so u won't have him to worry about. U do know u can call anytime u want if u feel like talking.

Janky I'm glad ur back, but sorry why u went. I didn't know. I know all of this to well and now I see my kids going thru it. The times they were told to say good=by to me or that my organs were shutting down, so both ends are sad for the family.

Kim I couldn't help but smile when I was reading about Sadie and storms. My cat would kind if pace around and come by me then go hide and I knew bad stuff was coming and even tho it was still thundering some she's come out and I knew the worst was over, and she was never wrong. Then we'd cuddle and weather was OK---she was my weather girl and then it got to the point when noone would see her they all believed me and waited for her to come in sight.

Sandy u made me remember how when we'd get alerts no one really pain attention to them, then it got to a point when everyone would listen, it got serious all over this area and scary. And that one we had when we had to leave our house for a week was the first time I actually lived thru one, worse than a horror movie and lasted so much longer. Sandy u'd think I would know more about wines, we had it in the table at dinner for as long as I can remember, most of the time tho it was homemade then when that stopped it was always deep red and as teenagers we could have it anytime we wanted, except none of us wanted it, but we had to when we were sick with goofy things. My mom wasn't crazy for us having it, but my dad insisted but as an adult I did enjoy it but mostly white and my sister always likes red. <every day still>

I'm glad my kids got to go away, they both needed some down time. But Joey and I are having our time. I know it's silly cuz he's older now but we fell asleep holding hands like we used to and he told me he was so happy to just be with me, we have that L shaped couch and it was perfect for us, he was even kissing my hand before falling asleep. We watched a scary movie , then our comedies, we like pretty much the same, to calm us down. LOL

I'm sure Jazzy is having a good weekend and we can see pictures, she takes great pics.

Now I'll see what the phones do today, it's been A/C time here, I didn't realize how hot it was yesterday til I walked outside, ick for sure.

Hoping everyone has a good Sunday and hello to all.

    LUBS U ALL.

Good morning, Loungettes!Happy Sunday Funday! Still on the temperature roller coaster here, nice and warm yesterday, got the herb seedlings planted, going to plant the tomato seedlings today. The mint I planted last year has come back up, yay! Sadie is loving sunbathing on the deck during the day.

Goldie--So sorry about your Mom. I'm still praying she has peace and comfort for the time she has left, and that you get at least one more visit with her.

    Morning, Janky!

Cammy--We can learn a lot from out furbabies if we pay attention, they can sense and understand things we can't, like weather changes. Sounds like you and Joey are having a good time together, like old times.

To all who have served out country, and particularly those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and all their families, My thanks for your service.

Oooh, Jazzy--so beautiful & relaxing (though I imagine blazing hot). About 80 here along the lake, though 90 inland. Gordy just returned from the wedding in Grand Rapids, and went straight upstairs to nap. He will bring Leslie to the BBQ tomorrow, so off I go for more salmon (or anything else to grill) plus side dishes. That, and a new toilet seat--we have miserable luck with the lid screws stripping holes, and they don't sell just the lids. We tried those plastic screw anchors--no luck. And clear duct tape is sort of precarious.

    Mornin" Ladies.

And I echo Kim's words for our men and women in the military and their families. My niece <sister's DD> has 3 sons and 2 have joined for the Navy seals in training now, they both have college ed. and 1 went in for an officer and the other wanted to be just trained. Yet no one is really happy about it in this day and age. Ten I have a cousin mid 30's who's an attorney working years in Afghanistan, I don't even understand what she does, but I do know she has 5 bodyguards and carries her own huge rifle just walking around. She now works mostly in DC ., but goes back every so often then to Nigeria. Haven't a clue why.

Sandy again I agree, Jazzy's pic. looks wonderful, but it has to be so HoT. The temps here were in the 90's yesterday and I think today---way to hot to early.

Joey and I have just stayed home, he had a couple of friends over and every so often would come in here to see if I needed anything and I reminded him I have a phone now so I can text him, he knew but just checked anyway. We were watching our scary movie last nite, but got so tired we stopped it, put on our comedies , held hands and fell asleep. U gals know I love that with our furbaby laying right n/ext to us.

The only thing that was a PITA was my work, so many people with A/C problems of not working and Dan was trying to take them all, so we were busy---my last call came in around 10PM tho so nothing during the night. Well I wouldn't have heard it, but I can see by the computer. Well now I think it's Sunday so I'll be screwed up all week, which for me it's easy to do.

I hope everyone has a good relaxing day and stay cool.

Cami, so glad you and Joey had your alone time, even if he did have some friends over. He loves you so much and I know he is yoour world.

My mom goes from good to bad, to good and bad again. Just never know!

    Jazzy, that looks amazing.

NM, I have a question for you, if you know the answer. Mom said she has been vomiting, but it comes after a breathing treatment, says she starts coughing and gagging, causing her to bring up a thick slime. I wonder if this is coming from her lungs, since a breathing treatment is meant to open up her airway.

Yesterday she told me she was going thru clothes and doing laundry. I asked her where she was doing laundry, she said down by the creek. I couldn't tell you the last time she did laundry!

We are heading out to the forest, taking the quad and going riding and having a picnic lunch.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Memorial Day to all, those with the day off and those working. And especially those who are serving the country and those who have served. The sun is mostly out here, but the temps have dropped, again. 56 degrees in the house this ayem. Got the space heater on, dug out the long sleeved shirts I had put away a week or so ago. I have no energy or ambition to do any cleaning or decluttering or anything when it's this chilly. Good thing Silly Sadie likes to cuddle! It took us almost an hour to get out of bed this ayem, we were very happy to stay under the covers and do tummy tickles and nose nudges and belly rubs and blanket nibbles rather then get up. Ah, well, it will warm up and then I'll be complaining about the heat!

Janky--I'll join the toast, only with a hot beverage, the way the weather is going here!

Jazzy--Oh, my, goodness, if that is a heated pool, or better yet, a hot spring, I want in!!!Beautiful!

Chi--I'm glad I'm not the only one with a problem with the toilet lid screws stripping! There must be a better answer somewhere!

Cammy--aww, so nice to have a fall asleep with Joey and furbaby evening. I hear you about being screwed up all week about what day it is, I will be, too. But that's ok, I'll just keep on keeping on.

    Unknown Soldier

    The Unknown Soldier

    Ingredients

    Serves 2

    • 50mls vodka
    • 50mls Cointreau
    • 2 small white sugar lump
    • 2 forks
    • 2 x 50mls liqueur glasses
    • Hot water
    • 1 match

    Method

    1. First warm the glasses with hot water, then remove the water and pour half of the Cointreau into each glass first, followed by half of the vodka.
    2. Dim the room lights and silence any guests.
    3. Light the drink with a match and have ready the lump of sugar balanced on the tines of the fork.
    4. Suspend the fork over the flame and allow the sugar lump to melt and drip into the drink below. Now, this is the really special moment. As the melting sugar hits the liquid, it causes 'small explosions...' which sound '...like a distant rifle.' And it is true, they absolutely do! Also, once the flame has been extinguished, the 'Little "bullets" of caramelised sugar...' have further turned the drink a '...deep caramel colour...' and with '...an aroma of burnt orange.' It is suggested that the drink is consumed '...while it is still hot!' Health and Safety, nearly forty years on, may well not agree with Mr. Kerr.

Lori, that gunk might well be from your mom's lungs--at least the breathing treatment is helping her bring it up.

We sure caught a weather break today--only made it into the low 80s by the lake, though out in Cami's neck of the woods it was well into the 90s. But it was calm & dry, perfect for grilling. My housekeeper & her DH were still on the road home from B'ham, so couldn't make it; and Gordy & Leslie were at a mutual friend's BBQ. So the 2 lbs. of salmon were enough for the 7 of us--though I did defrost two grass-fed burgers, the Kobe beef hot dogs, three brats and some Hot Doug's Hungarian smoked sausage (Chicagoans know Hot Doug's served the best hot dogs on earth--was even written into a script on "Chicago P.D."). Oh, well--looks like choucroute garnie for dinner tomorrow...or since I have both brioche and pretzel buns, grill again. Not gonna rain till well past midnight. We're only getting into the high 70s tomorrow (though suburbanites will get near 90 again).

It was a bittersweet get-together because one couple is retiring and moving to SC (near Charleston). They're having their own farewell party in a couple of weeks--on the same day as the second day of the dulcimer festival I'm playing 80 miles away; they said they'll keep the shinding going long enough for my singing partner & I to get there (the festival ends officially at 6pm but the last two times we played there a storm front with tornado warning came through and the park rangers shut the shindig down before we could do our last workshop--but they paid us in full anyway). But Bob is working that weekend and the next--including Father's Day, when Leslie's folks are coming up from Houston--so he can get the full 3 days off for our BFF's son's wedding. So Bob is bummed he may never see Jackie again--she'll be en route to Charleston while her husband will be at the wedding. I reminded him that Hilton Grand Vacations has properties in Myrtle Beach and on Hilton Head Island and we have points expiring this year, so he perked up a bit. Maybe we'll pick a 2-BR unit so the four of us can hang out together.

DsOTD: aperitifs of Aperol Spritzers (one friend just had seltzer, the other had a couple of Leinenkugels). With the meal (salmon), a 2014 Regnard generic Bourgogne Pinot Noir--light and fruity. Bob & Jackie didn't want fruit for dessert, so they went down the block to Lickety Split and brought back a couple of quarts of frozen custard. (The line was out the door and down the block--as it is whenever it's nice out).

    Just poopin in.

Kim and Lori u must have bumped right in the pewl, cuz I was hoping Kim had an answer for you Lori. But I do remember when my Dad was in the nursing home and at nite they would give him xanax maybe to relax him <they probably gave it to everyone> but that's when he would come up with the most outlandish stories for a while til we told the Dr. to take him off and the stories stopped. Of course it was hard to tell my dad's crazy stories to the stories he used to tell us when we were younger, well they were all crazy---but true. He would tell us what horses were going to win and what numbers were going to come in. Of course my sister and I played them, hey u never know. My brothers would tell us we were nuts ten, how would we be wen we are older---well here we are and nuttier than ever. But I do know my cousin got some kind of lung treatments and she did tell me she would throw up after.

Lori ur right, Joey and I had a great weekend <they're not home yet> and he told me his secrets that I had to promise never to repeat them, just like when he was little and we worked on his project he's doing for breast cancer. And I realized he never left the house, oh a couple of friends came over but he didn't want to go any where, cuz he loved being with just me. But of course I was so busy working it was hard at times so I'm glad he had some friends over. He took care of all the meals we had and Sox in and out and anything else.

I was so busy til around 2PM, it was recockulous and Dan just did a couple of jobs today and no one else worked, he figured he wouldn't have to pay overtime and it would just go into the company, but he stopped too---it was all AC nothing else.Oh he was knocked out working in basically all heat. I think about the reviews cuz we've been hold a 5 star business for quite a while but Leslie told me if they don't use this service they can't go on google and give ratings or Dan can challenge them or something so I guess it'll be all right.

I had to take some script for my nose and I think there are steroids in them, can u tell??? So just skip anything I write, and I'm typing like a madman, yes me.

The show Friends is on all nite tonight so Ill just keep it on cuz it still makes me LOL.

I'd better try sleeping, and take something to sleep, I know it'll be busy tomorrow, I really hate talking to people, never liked it but worse now. Oh well I just put on a happy face, then my words sound happy.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Twofer Tuesday! Back to work day for me. And, of course, the first ayem in days that the house has been warmer than 60 degrees (it's 61 degrees) when I get up! Ah, well, such is life.

Goldie--we must've bumped each other into the pool yesterday! Yes, the stuff your Mom is bringing up is probably from her lungs. If I recall correctly your Mom is/was a smoker? When someone smokes the lung create extra mucus to try to protect the lung tissue from chemical damage. Some of the chemicals in cigarette smoke paralyze the little hairs that are constantly moving mucus up from the lung bases to the throat to be coughed out or swallowed. That morning "smoker's cough" that smokers have in the morning is from the hairs that have become unparalyzed overnight and trying to move the mucus out. Smokers are correct when they say that first morning cigarette stops the coughing--it paralyzes the hairs and stops the movement of mucus. When someone like your Mom stops smoking and has lung disease or damage there is a lot of mucus being produced to protect the lungs from the chemicals, and that mucus needs to be moved out, and breathing treatments help with that. Your Mom probably isn't drinking as much fluids as would be ideal, so the mucus is thicker than normal. The problem with the mucus is that bacteria LOVE it, making smokers prone to pneumonia, bronchitis and other respiratory infections. Did your Mom ever do laundry in a creek? I wonder if she was remembering doing laundry by a creek. People will remember odd things at times!

Chi--Sounds like you had quite the BBQ! And beautiful weather to do it in. Frozen custard sounds yummy. I've never had it, I'm guessing it's just like it sounds, custard that has been frozen? I'm imaging something very rich.

Cammy--I can't picture you not liking to talk to people!Maybe not to people you don't know, but generally you are just as friendly a person as anyone could want to meet! Good point about the xanax and crazy stories, that stuff can really make someone loopy. Dan needs to be careful working in the heat, make sure he drinks enough fluids. He can get dehydrated awfully quickly. So glad you and Joey had some time together. I love the idea of him telling you secrets.

Sandy/NM, thank you for the info on mom.

Sandy, you thawed out all that food, and it ended up being just you and Bob? Perhaps your house cleaner and her DH?

NM, my mom only quit smoking the beginning of this year, but mainly cuz she was either in the hospital or in rehab. She also has COPD, I suspect end stage. Laundry in a creek? Hail no! I don't know if she has ever done laundry. I remember doing it when I was a kid, I also cleaned the bathrooms, strip kitchen floor of wax, wash it and re wax it.

Cami, so so glad you had that "special" time with Joey and that Les n Marty got to their get away.

My mom was calling in the middle of the night last night. To me and one of my brothers. Everyone was drunk, she needed address where she was so she could call 911 and I had a tooth ache! She is on lots of morphine, no xanax. Had a nice ride yesterday, did 2 hours. Didn't want to over do it and DH end up hurting again. We were up at almost 10,000 feet. I wore a jacket! Stopped at DQ on our way out and ran into our doctor. So sat with him while we had our treats.

Gonna be swamped here today, business wise. Plus I still have cleaning and packing up to leave Monday.

Lori--it was Bob & me, our two BFFs, and three others. I had planned for 11 of us. So there were still 7 of us to eat the salmon but nobody had room for sausages or burgers. The brats & burgers went back into the freezer. I will either grill the Hungarian smoked sausages &/or a hot dog or two, and serve them on pretzel or brioche buns with "fixings," or make a choucroute garnie. I grew up with two kosher delis in the immediate neighborhood, and what they served was either Gulden's or Ba-Tamp-Te brown mustard so that's my preference. I do love Maille Dijon Extra Fort (really spicy) on more boldly flavored sausages or deli meats, though. Makes Grey Poupon seem like French's. Friends from Cleveland swear by Koop's, which is yellow but has horseradish in it.
