Lori--that is a GREAT pic!  Gonna sell copies for souveniers?  I want to frame one--it'll make my local friends look at me funny and ask all sorts of questions that I can just smile and shrug my shoulders at!

Tip toeing amongst all of the sleeping bodies....looking for Junie...........Oh there she is, slumped over in that lounger by the fire.

*Walks quietly over to Junie and nudges her ever so gently* "Breakfast is ready, and it sure smells good, want to join me?"

Junie gets up, we both grab our noise makers and BLOW LIKE THE DICKENS!

GET UP GIRLS, BREAKFAST IS SERVED. ITS A NEW YEAR, LETS CELEBRATE!

    Happy 2010 everyone!

AAAHHHHH!!!!!! EEEEKKKKKK!!!!!! WHAT was that noise??!!    Oh, Junie and Lori on noisemakers left over from last night.  Or was it early this morning?  Whatever.  That's a worse wake up than the dog's cold nose down my back!     ENOUGH ALREADY!!!   Wait, do I smell bacon?  And Guatamalan Peaberry Coffee?  With real cream?  And maybe just a little shot of Kahlua?  Well, maybe I am just a little hungry, and maybe I'll be a little less cranky after a cup of coffee and a swim.  Or maybe I'll just go back to sleep. . . .

WILL YOU TWO CUT IT OUT WITH THE NOISEMAKERS UNTIL I GET MY CAFFIENE FIX?!?!?!?!

Yes, that is my Snookie.  85 pounds of elderly German Shepherd.  Like all shepherds she sheds enough hair every day to make a new dog, has chronic ear infections, a VERY cold nose that she knows how to use to get attention, takes up more space than the laws of physics allow, snores louder than me, can hear cellphane crinkle or the microwave beep from a half mile away while in a deep sleep but cannot hear me calling her for her ear treatment when I'm standing right next to her.  She routinely tricks me into feeding her twice, just to prove she can still do it.  And except for the mud she tracks in, she's great at keeping the kitchen floor clean!  You know the old "3-second-rule" about food dropped on the floor?  If it lasts on the floor 3 seconds in my house it isn't worth eating because Snookie either catches it before it hits the floor or it's horrible! She was staying iwth my Mom and step-father for a few days this fall, he took her in the car while he ran some errands.  One of the errands was picking up a couple dozen eggs at a neighbor's.  The eggs went on the front seat, Snookie was in the station wagon back.  After the next errand my step-father came back to the car, found a hole chewed in one end of one of the egg boxes, opened it up and discovered Snookie had eaten 5 eggs through the hole!  Not bad for an old lady, huh?

NM, your Snookie is a sweetie....she sounds smarter than the whole lot of us here at the HTL.  Dog sucking eggs....what a talent.  I am up, moving, and have removed those coconut tit cups....they are not all what they are cracked up to be regarding comfort.  Glad my body was able to recover from that rager we had!!!!   Ye Haw!  HunkydD

    Hi Drinkin' Buds~

    HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Just got home today about 4:30 after being "on the road" for 11 days.  We had a blast, but it's good to be home.

OMG!  All the pics are TOO FUNNY!!! Y'all had way too much fun while I was gone!  (the pic of Avery is precious, but we need more J so get that new laptop fired up and get to posting lol)

Spent 4 nights in Ft Worth and have never seen it snow like that EVER.  First white Christmas in Ft Worth since 1926.  Changed our travel plans somewhat and we spent 4 nights at Mark's sisters house, which is okay since she lives in a very nice home with a real bar and a wine cellar Cool

Spent 2 nights in casinos.  I should definitely change my CasinoGirl name.  What a L-O-S-E-R!  OMG!  I am not going back to a casino for a very long time....

Spent NYE at a historic hotel in Hot Springs Arkansas, the Arlington.  Junie - have you been there?  Been to HS several times but never stayed at the Arlington.  The Al Capone suite was being cleaned as we walked by, so the maid said "come on in". It was slightly nicer than our room (JOKE)  We also did the Gangster Museum tour.  There was a lot of crazy, illegal shit going in HS in "the day".  No wonder I love that town!

Sounds like everybody had a happy NYE.  The NYE party at the Arlington turned out to be quite a drag, even for us old people, so we went down the street a couple of blocks to Capone's bar around 11:00 to ring in the New Year.  Last thing  I remember was doing a shot of pink tequilla from a bottle shaped like a penis, and telling some guy how much he looked like Kenau Reeves (which he did, I DO remember that)

    Anywho  - here's to a happy, healthy 2010!!

    Cheers,

    Donna

Hey, Donna!!  Glad to see you back home and that you had a great trip.   That White Christmas in Ft Smith kind of messed up our day, too...but had a Plan B to fall back on!   We've not been to Hot Springs; it's always in our plans and know it would be a fun trip--maybe when the horses run!!!

NM--loved the Snookie post.   You must tell us more about your beloved dog.  By the way, dogs are allowed at the HTL!    Think my bucket is nice and iced down--heading out to the pool to see who's there!

    hugggsssss to all

Hmmm...I guess I am up pretty late for even a mountain std time girl.  Husband and son went to a hunting banquet and auction (bulllshit session) for all the biggest and greatest animals taken during the hunting season in our state.  He was fed, well boozed, and is snoring right now as I type.  They dropped me off at girlfriends house before they went....what a nice evening had by all.  I did however pace myself just in case I might have to do some driving but I didn't have to after all.  I am so thankful to have a friend that can tolerate myself and my emotions.  I was picked up and now all tucked into bed.  So...I am awake..DH is not.  Donna, nice to hear from you...change your name if you must but you will always be casino girl to me.  Pink tequila and Kenau Reeves...you definately had a more exciting time than myself.  I think I have a little "gansta" blood in me in my own way.  If someone steals from me again I might change my name to Bonnie.   Whatever, I am just a thankful to be alive and still kickin!  Happy 2010 to you all...hope you all sleep like babies tonight!  Goodnight Johnboy and and a big scratch behind Snookies ear....XXXXOOO HD

I tried to read all the posts on this topic but read the first page and page 227 instead. I have had tremenous guilt and "sure" my drinking has caused my BC. That doesn't mean I've stopped however. There have been a few days after chemo I felt sickish and attributed it to the alcohol. Recently I've heard news stories about booze and increased estrogen increasing risk. Those stories have served to make me feel more guilty and responsible for my BC.

My oncologist has yet to tell me to stop though I've been honest about my regular consumption.

I'm glad this topic exists...I am a smoker too but have cut way down mostly because the chemo seems to have impacted the "enjoyment" of smoking.

I'm going back to read page 2 through 226 of this post and see what I can gleen.

Welcome "littlebird", glad to have you join us, although of course not happy for the circumstances that led you here. We are a fun, caring, crazy group, and you will have a blast here with us. I think you have some real enjoyable (and confusing!) times ahead if you ARE able to read back on ALL these pages...and some really neat pics of our very special "HTL" (Hot Tatties Lounge). Try not to let your guilt get the best of you, as there are so many things that can cause bc, and the jury is still out on that one. Personally I think stress caused mine, but who is to know for sure? Just relax, pull up a barstool or pool lounge, and enjoy yourself!

Donna, what a fun trip you had, and glad you got back safely. Here I thought we had the "perfect" New Years party and nothing could have made it better.....till I read your post. I think we need to stock up on that pink tequila in the penis shaped bottles....what a riot!! Boy we would have been more wasted than we were, if at all possible. I agree with HunkyD...you will always be "CasinoGirl" to us here...just that the stupid casinos are sooooooo tight now....my DH says they have the machines "tied to the wall"...whenever we put too much money in them and don't win anything! Better luck next time!

NM, your Snookie is soooooo adorable! Imagine "stealing" raw eggs in the car..sooooo funny. She looks so huggable; I always have large dogs too so I can get great big hugs. I have a question (should prob call the vet but haven't gotten around to it)....do you know if dogs can be allergic to egg yolks? I like egg white omelets, and just throw the yolks away, but sometimes my DH will cook the yolks for the dogs. He had done this b4 Maverick got his snout all swollen a few days ago.....but he is not real observant (DH not Mav...LOL) so I still think Mav may have gotten bitten by something..but I also wonder if the egg yolk may have contributed??? We have to bring both dogs into the garage for several days, as the temps are in the teens at night now....have kennels for them in the garage, with bedding warmed in the dryer first! They are real sweet too!

Sorry gals, I hit a wrong key, and got that BIG text....but I don't have a choice of text sizes, so don't know how to get it back normal. AARRGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Oh well, if thats the only wrong thing that I do today, that would be a plus! J/K   I better close here, b4 I do any more damage. Happy Sunday everyone....sure feels like Monday since Friday was a holiday.....

    A Hui Hou,

    Kathy

CasinoGirl--sounds like you had a good time even if you didn't win big!  I've never  been to Fort Worth except for a layover at the DFW airport a time or two, but I can't picture that area covered in snow--I bet I'l be laughing so hard at the reactions of the people there!  Pink tequila from a penis-shaped bottle?!  Soooo funny!!!!!  I'll have to ask the boys to find us some of that for our next party!

littlebird--there has been discussion about what caused us to get bc on other threads.  Everything in implicated from alcohol to dairy products from cows fed hormones, to being overweight, to eating red meat, to smoking, to chemical exposures to stress to secretly wanting to get bc.  So far, not one of the "risk factors" has actually been proven to have a causal relationship with bc--they just seem to be present at a slightly higher rate in women with bc than women not (yet) diagnosed with bc.  To my mind it's just another example of blaming the victim to distract fom the fact that science can't cure us.  I am obese, I drink, I eat meat, I drink meat and I am not going to change my life and stop doing things I enjoy just because some anonymous scientist thinks there's a correlation between the two.  I can statistically prove that eating mashed potatoes causes car accidents using the same statistical analysis procedures the "researchers" use.

hunky & wahine--Snookie just loves ear scratches, and belly rubs, and any form of attention at all!  I haven't brought her in because there wouldn't be a safe Cheeto anywhere in the lounge--or any bit of food or even a napkin!  She's always pretending to be starving and neglected, even when she eats so much she throws it up, then she goes right back for more!  According to Snookie's vet egg yolks (and whites and shells) are perfectly fine for dogs, although it is possible for a dog to be allergic to eggs.  It's more likely that he got bit by something like you think.  What kinds of dogs are yours?  Snookie loves the cold--she'll sit on the deck in the snow until she's covered.  Or she'll go out and roll around in it until she's covered.  Most of the day yesterday I would let Snookie out, then a bit later let the Abomidable Snow Snookie in.  Have to take a broom to her to get the snow off so the whole house doesn't get wet.  She had a doghouse but prefers to sleep under the deck in a snow pile.  Sometimes I wonder if there isn't some sled dog in her ancestry somewhere.

NM...Love your stories of Snookie...what enjoyment she has with EVERYTHING!! The "abominable snow snookie"...precious...glad you don't get upset and you are able to get the snow off her when she comes in! Our Maverick and Molly were rescued from the dog pound over 5 yrs ago...they were around 2 yr...were told they were sister and brother, however Mav used to always push Molly away after he scarfed down his food in 2 sec, and she would let him eat hers...so she was really skinny when we got her. We immediately taught him to "wait" till she is finished and then he can check her bowl. He still scarfs his food down, then patiently sits over to the side till Molly is finished. He just wants to please! He loves belly rubs too and rolls over in an instant. Molly is our "squirrel chaser"...when they are in the bird feeders...she doesn't chase any of the birds away but only goes after the critters. They look identical with black/white large splotches...except he is larger, and his ears are shorter and his snout is wider. She looks like english springer spaniel/cocker spaniel, and he looks like english springer spaniel/border collie. She was able to walk UNDER him when we got them, but now she has filled out nicely and is just maybe 1/3 shorter than him. We adore them! Need to find another dog sitter though so we can continue to travel....prefer leaving them in the yard than taking to board. ALSO, they protect our house!!

Cheers to dog hugs, and belly rubs,

    Kathy

Waheni--my Snookie was a rescue, too.  She was found tied to the gate outside a local low-security prison one night.  She was a little thin but quite healthy overall. The Vet said she must have been used for breeding because it looked like she'd been pregnant more than once.  Not sure how he could tell that, but the next order of business was getting her fixed.  She's filled out since then, in fact I have to be careful she doesn't get overweight.  Isn't it amazing how fast a good sized dog can roll over for a tummy tickle? Snookie doesn't bark very much at the local squirrel anymore--too many years of being teased by the rodent!  She does announce every coming and going in the neighborhood, no matter how trivial or routine. Right now she's playing footstool, keeping my feet warm.  That's her way of keeping track of me since I just put aside my dinner plate. As soon as I get up and take the dish to the sink she'll get fed and she wants to be sure to know when I get up.  Since I'll have to get her to move so I CAN get up she's never late for a meal even if she falls asleep!

This afternoon I was shoveling snow off the deck and Snookie kept getting in the way. I wound up shoveling around her and leaving her patch of snow to lie on while she relaxed and supervised me.  After she got up I tried to shovel the patch but she walked up to me and put one big paw on the shoverl and leaned on it. No way I was going to get it out from under her! So, my deck is clear except for a 1 x 3 foot patch that she lies on when she goes out.  I need one of those posters that says "This house is run for the convenience of the dog."

Looks as though the guys got everything all cleaned up from the party. That is one I'll never forget! And now its Margarita Monday!

Wecome Cindy. I hope you are getting through all the pages ok and that its like reading a good book! And like others said, don't let your guilt get the best of you. I don't buy that for one second. Kind of like smoking and lung cancer. If you smoked, that was the cause...but what about those that didn't. Every person I met w/lung cancer, where I went for treatment, none smoked. And years ago, women that drank didn't get breast cancer. I agree with NM, that its the crap they give animals and pesticides they spray on fruits & veggies, other chemicals used in foods to preserve, on and on and on. So....just come here and have some fun with us. That's what The HTL is all about.

Welcome home Donna. I have sent the boys out to look for some of those shot glasses so we can do Pink Tequillia shots. Hope you have some new pictures to share!

HD, you were up late the other night! But it sounds like you and your GF had fun. I wish I has one I could hang out with! I love Darrell to death, but a girlfriend to hang out with would be so nice!

Kathy, I kind of like you large font. I wish you knew how you did it! Kind of like our Tattie Tenders,  "easy on the eyes".

Dee, love your coozie. Get me one too, I'm sure Darrell would love it!

We were having some electronic issues over the week end, still don't have them resolved, but I can use that wireless gizzy thing we bought from Verizon. I refuse to step foot out in the office on the week end!

    mejor pink tequila

Hope everyone has a great week!

LMAO Lori!! Glad we can now put a picture with the "pink tequila"! Sooooooo funny!!! Yeah, I know I hit something with my little finger while typing which made that big font, but you would think I could do it again....NOPE!!!! I guess it only works accidentally....LOL.

Dee, I love your "Margarita Monday".....now we can look forward to Mondays..YAY!!! Cute pic!

Cindy, I saw some of your poems....you write beautifully! What a gift. I really enjoyed reading them.

NM, It amazes me that Snookie likes to lie in the snow that much!!! Funny to have to just leave a patch of snow on the deck for her. And then making sure she knows when you get up from eating....sounds like she gives you endless enjoyment! I know I miss out on a lot of fun stuff by having our dogs outside, but so much easier when we travel. We used to travel almost nonstop, but trying to stay home some now and play catch-up with years of neglecting things at home. Hope to start redoing some of the kitchen soon....new downdraft range will be installed soon (and they have to make a hole in the floor, w/ ductwork, and a hole in the brick outside to vent it out),then need new countertops, floor, and maybe bump out the tall windows so will have more room for plants. NOT looking forward to that, but been meaning to get it started for a long time. House isn't very old, but they put such a cheap floor in the kitchen that it is sooooo hard to keep clean. And it seems like when you want to change one thing, it just snowballs!

Well, I am going to have Pants bring me one (or more) of those yummy looking margaritas....gotta celebrate our Margarita Monday!!! And maybe lie by the pool..........

    CIAO,

    Kathy

    Waheni--that is a GREAT video!

Snookie does help keep me grounded, not to mention keeping me moving.  She likes to nap with the top of her head up against something like my foot or the side of the footstool or using my slippers for a pillow.  Nice to have pre-warmed slippers to put on! I had a BS appointment in Boston yesterday so Snookie was alone all day.  When I got home, after she ate, she climbed up in my lap while I was in the easy chair.  Can you picture 85 pounds of dog crammed into my lap?  I could barely breathe and absolutely could not move until SHE decided to get down!  And boy where her paws COLD!

Goldie--the shot glasses are priceless!  I don't care what the boys put in them, I'll drink it just for the fun of it!
