Ooooops! Scooze me NM! Glad I didn't bump you too hard, wouldn't want your post lost, cuz they are just TOO FUN! Love the snowmen cartoon with the salt. And now we have 2 DOTD's!
I do feel bad for my step daughter. She did say she talked to her mom.........for a whole 5 minutes! I talk to her a few times a day, and usually a half hour or more. It's lonely in the hospital, and she has had only 2 friends come to visit, they came together (a couple) and I think they have been there twice.

Kathy, no Ruby Throats. It's hard to tell what all I have, cuz some have similar markings, but I think what have, Costa's (purprle throat) Black Chinned (speckled throat) I have had Anna's, but haven't seen them this year. And Rufous, which is the orangish one with red throat, they don't come until July and are VERY territorail. One time I did see a Calliope.

OMG Lori, so awesome that you can put all those feeders out and they are emptied so soon! Some years we get about 7-8 hummers, but since we only have 3 this year, we can 2 cups in the feeder and it lasts 3 days. A LOT of neighbors have hummingbird feeders in our neighborhood, so I guess they don't have to go far to eat! We have the finch feeder on same double hook, so get the purple finches, gold finches, carolina chickadees, and tufted titmouses (mice?) eating at the same time as the hummies, and it is so neat to watch. RIght now it is mostly the purple finches, haven't seen many of the others for a couple of wks. BUt our other feeders get the brazilian cardinals, bluejays, red-wing blackbirds, mourning doves, and plain brown ones I haven't ID'd yet, oh, and of course....SQUIRRELS! Poor Molly has to run out there everytime we whisper "Molly, Squirrel"....and she does a mad dash, no matter how hot it is. OF course the squirrels come right back, as there are such big trees they can just hop on a branch and go in trees all through the neighbors yards behind us.
NM, such fun, as usual! And I love how you really personalize your posts to ea of us...don't know how you do all that, but love it! Esp LOL at the Prozac for "tropical depression"...very timely. Good for you, going on a walk. I really need to start doing that. Gotta get my house clean as oldest DD and g'kids are coming over for lunch I think, and I just woke up, late. Hope your weekend is no ttoo busy and the storm loses strength b4 getting to your area. OH, I just hit a key and lost half my post, but Lori's idea of hitting the arrow, brought it back...YAY!
So glad you got your luggage, Dorothy! Haven't seen a weather update yet, but am thinking of you! Funny how you had to "come clean" that you were staying an extra day, at the hotel! Shame, shame, shame on you...j/k, Is your mom taking her pills ok? Does your dad have to take any? I know they must be sooooooo happy that you are there!
Love having TWO DOTD's today....yippie yi yay cayay (how the heck IS that spelled??). Sounds like a good dwunk Fried-dey!! I didn't tell youngest DD that arrives today w/ her family about me redoing the DR chairs and the LR sofa...I know she will notice right away, and then I can see if she has a good or a bad reaction! My oldest DD that feeds our dogs and had to walk by the LR, did not even notice the sofa, and she knew I was doing it. She tends not to notice things, though! OF course, I am about the only one that spends time in the LR, as then I have my OWN TV to watch and DH can watch his in the family room. No arguing that way....purrfect! And mine is 4" or so larger....nah, nah, nah, nah, nah.......bleeech! J/K. I am feeling silly this morning...sure missing Beans' posts.....where are you girlfriend? Having a good time with your DH, I hope! I think he has arrived now?
OK girlz, stay sate, but get dwunk with our TWO DOTD's!!! Storm, storm, stay away.....Keep our girlz outta harms way!
Hugssssss,
Kathy

Yeah! 2 DOTD's! Time to PARTAY!!!
(doesn't take much of an excuse, does it?)

Just heard the hurricane effects are being felt in Myrtle Beach. Hoping that just means some rain....are you okay DorK?????
Wunnerful NM, I'm ready to PARTAY too!!!! *hic*

I love hummingbirds too.. I actually have two feeders but haven't ever tried making the syrup. I know it isn't hard just haven't done it. Would it be too late here in the south I wonder?
0 -
No, I don't think it is too late, Stanzie. We put one up at my mom's while she was here, and they found it the same day! Just use 4 parts water to 1 part sugar (real sugar!), and boil gently. Then cool b4 filling feeder. In the heat we have had, they say not to leave it out more than 3-4 days, so it won't spoil. We read not to use soap on their feeders, so we clean it with vinegar and water. I am sure Lori has some hints too, with all the feeders she has! You only need to put the red coloring in to help them find the feeder, not supposed to have to do it after that.

Okie dokie, just might have to give it a try! Thanks!!!

Now your hummies can have "happy hour" too....*slurp,slurp*.....I think they will thank you!
Oh, that BBQ Beef Brisket tasted sooo good yesterday, so made the baked beans today with some brisket in it, plus bbq sauce, etc and it turned out sooo good. Also baked some healthy chicken w/ panko, which the g'kids liked. Gotta run some errands....till later gaters...

Thought I was late for Pau Hana....but...where is everyone? DorK, are you ok? And Beans, we miss you!!!! Kymn, I forget, are you in Toronto???? Looks like the hurricane might go up into Toronto too. Egads this is a BIG storm, but I haven't been home for awhile, so don't know the latest path. Stay safe everyone!!!
Chairs!

Hope all the girls on the east coast are out of harms way....hoping hurricane Irene skips land and breaks out to sea.....wishing everyone a good week-end. Kathy...Kim is in AB....sure hope the hurricane doesn't go near Toronto as thats where my DD and SIL live.....time to jump in the shower and set the table for Shabbat dinner....have "family (friends that are family) for dinner......

Hi Karen, Hope your DD and SIL will be okay! I still haven't seen an updated tracking. Been trying to find a rescue group to rescue this beautiful sleek black mama cat and her 3-4 kittens...found her in a corner by the front porch of our condo...the kittens are soooo tiny and so cute....at least one is striped. DH saw the cat and yelled at her to get out of our flowers...then I saw the kittens, but by then mama cat was hissing at us! After we did some work, I came back out and talked soothingly to mama cat, and she seemed happy then and back w/ her kits. Don't know how long they have been there, since I haven't been there for awhile. Sure hope to get some rescue, b4 they get too big and scatter; as future would not be good for them on the loose.
Hope all you loungettes are having a great Fried-dey-nite!

Trying to clean and put stuff away and I'm so exhausted. I'm tired of being of being so tired all the time! Have rehearsl tomorrow... wish I was feeling better. Hope everyone is all right!!!

hi girls,

a quick hello to all. we had a great day despite the wild n crazy weather. DH suggested that my dad move his car from under the carport so that we could hang out in the rain and sit out there in the cart. . my Dad is the type of personality that when he says no,he means no. I had myself stressed over DH's insistence in moving dad,s car out n moving the golf cart in. Well Dad finally said yes anwill be the worst hurrican on record in my d I think he is glad. He ended up hanging outside on the golf cart just watching the wind and rain. I was peaceful for all of us.
RQ, I can now relate soooo much with you and your Mom hanging out as bff's and in fear of how I will cope once I leave her. I will write more on that subject at another time..having issues with this mini, very difficult keyboard for de dorkY girl.
Stanzie, I am much more worried about NJ - we were just looking at the weather channel and they are saying that this storm has the potential to be the worst hurricane in NJ history, oh my! I talked to my DD today and she says she is not nervous. I had to give her instructions via email to tell her how to manage my pool.I worry about her and my doggies but she has assured me that she has everything in control.
DH and I will be dining with another couple tomorrow. the funny thing is that his "friend" has the same first name and last name of DH.DH has already lectured me and told ME THAT i CANNOT hGET TANKED LOL.I agreed to rotate a glass of wine with a glass of H2o in rotation of llikker .
well I am crashing out at myfamily is sleeping. I still have to get to the airline web sight and add some baggage and alos pick our seets on the return flight...another debacle caused by your truly. Lemme hit send, book my bags then perhaps check back and skim the messages of today....thinking about u girls and really wish you were all here to witness the many laughs.
dorkY says shhe loves you chicks...HaPPy flied-dey! Cheers!
OH PS i WANT to tail thesotry about my p's new neighbors who have moved her from JOPLIN MO just after she lost her home.It was a touching story as to how they survived the tornado. this chick gave us much gosspi to share w8ith my folks....oops, not gossip, just informational news hehe! again, four-geive the typos, this damn mini is so hard for me.
<end> ...OF DE RANT, TANKS FOR EARING ME!! PEACE... MISS U GALS MORE THAN i THOUGHT i WOULD. GOODNIGHT and feel free ti join me on my roller coaster weather udates..

Kathy, I have seed feeders too, but not a variety of birds here. And if the Scrub Jays find them, they are the most annoying bird you can imagine and quite the pigs. They are a type of Blue Jay. So glad you got the blue arrow to work!
Mitch, Kathy is right on the sugar and water ratio and everything else. But I don't boil my water and I wash them in the same dish water that I wash my dishes in.
DorK, I sure hope all is ok....at your folks and at home.
Well we saw the movie "Crazy Stupid Love". It was just ok in my opinion. It was one of those that comes together at the end.

Meterorolgist Dork (lol), I hope you CAN get home! ALready so many flts have been cancelled, and it hasn't even hit yet. Mes is afwaid oou will ave lots of trowwbles gettin home. Can only imagine how many people will be crowding the airports when this is over. Glad your DD is not worried, and am sure praying it DOES NOT hit NJ, or anywhere else either. We just don't need more destruction this year. So scary! Funny you mentioned the friend having same name as your DH....that happened to me too. When enroute from HI to NC to be with my fiance before our wedding there, he already had a new mobile home set up in a really nice park. I tried to call him from my stop w/ relatives in Utah, but couldn't reach him. Reached someone with SAME NAME, and get this......lived in the SAME mobile home park!!! MY relative did not know how to break the news to me that I was being jilted. Then luckily the other guy called back and had talked w/ mgt and found out that my fiance had just moved the mobile home there! This is waaaay b4 cell phones and internet, so I really had no other way to reach him. And he was waiting on the phone co to get the new phone installed. Was verrrrry scary for a day or so. Wish I could tell stories like Junie did, cause it was so strange, scary, then later on we laughed about it! OH, and they became best friends and even got arrested together when dwinking while operating a boat on the river! Back then the stupid judge put the blame on us wives, saying we "knew how" to keep them in line. I forget his words, but it was very much saying if we denied them sex when they drank, they wouldn't drink. WTH????? The south has come a long way baby!
Have a Good SatUdey girlz, and hoping and praying the weather does not get as ugly as they predict it will. Need a good dwink!!!!
Hugsssss,
Kathy

DorK - did you behave yourself? My DH says he won't drink tequila with me anymore because it makes me crazy. It doesn't - HE makes me crazy. The tequila merely allows me to express that.
Hope everyone is safe! I have a few projects to finish and then off to an open house at our friends' home which they just remodeled.
I had the book club meeting at my house the other day and thought it went well... was just thinking about how well the conversation flowed and how much I am enjoying this new group... then my phone rang and one of the ladies was upset because she had been offended by another lady and told me their whole history... blah blah... and there is another women who is bossy (oh, yeah, I had noticed but decided to ignore)... blah blah... the bossy one chose a book that is almost 800 pages even though the lady on the phone said she would prefer to do that the following month as she is very busy right now... just made me want to login to BCO and check on my sisters! Maybe having the common experience we have had gives us a different perspective, but life is just too short to worry about a slight by some woman you see for a couple of hours once a month! Ok, I didn't say that but I did tell her that she should be enjoying book club -- it isn't like it's her job and she has to accept the situation. And maybe there are ways to difuse the stress of decisions, like using our online board for discussion instead of the meeting (when we should just be enjoying each other's company)? Just so glad to know a group of women who GET IT! And we can all just blab about our ups and downs and in-betweens and support each other!
Love & hugs & ... where is the DOTD?
How bout an Annoyed Librarian?

WooHoo Pau Hana Time!!! Who wants a dwink??? Love the DOTD, The Annoyed Librarian, Gail! I am surprised that lady called you to beotch about the other woman, etc. Sounds like you handled it well, and hope subsequent meetings are enjoyable! Did you get your door finished? What other projects are you working on???
Worried about DorK......is everything ok there? Still have power? And weren't you flying home either Sun or Mon??? Trying to get a hurricane update right now, while downing my fav dwink! Spent the day w/ DD, SIL and g'kids, was a lot of fun. I baked Panko chicken breasts, with those bbq baked beans, and fresh tomato slices. Then after some errands, my middle g'dau and I made carrot cake cupcakes....yummmmmmm, except we used a mix and so of course was not as good and moist as DD's recipe. But I was able to let her do most of it herself (1st time for her), which was special. Didn't sleep last night, as DH was up a lot...aarrgghhhhh. So need to sleep well tonight as SIL's triathlon starts at 7:30 in the morning. Hope to spend more time with them, but they have others to visit, also. DD wants to take me out for an early b'day lunch on MOnday, so that will be nice! NO, don't get excited, still a couple of wks to go, but they live in TX, so she wanted to take me out while here.
Interesting, they are showing how the wind speed is lower on the ground, and like if it ends up about 60 mph at base of skyscrapers, it would be 110 mph at top of skyscrapers. So scary, hoping for nothing too bad because of this storm. Chrissy.....countdown???? Well, we aren't expecting any bad weather here, so if your destinations get hit, you could always come here! But I am hoping none of your plans will be affected by this weather.
Dwink Up! Titz Up! Bottoms Up! DILLIGAF (well, yeah, I do! lol),

worried about DorK too... Irene doesn't know what she's up against though!
No, didn't actually do any work on project cuz I slept in (sore throat and WD jumped off the bed at 3AM)... then went to run errands with DD2 and ended up at the bookstore sipping lattes (soy for DD) and then went to neighbor's open house and now I'm a little bit sloshed...0 -
hi girls, just a quick pop in --- I am well, the hurricane has passed. a few trees down but nothing more . we are still in limbo re: our returns flight - should be ok...cheerZs!
0 -
Whew DorK, so glad you all made it ok! Hoping your home in NJ also weathers the storm okay, and your DD is safe too. Have you tried to get through to the airlines re your return flt? I think they are ALL still canc for tomorrow, not sure about Monday. BUT if your flts have to be changed, better to call them asap, as it will be hard to find room once the flts resume. Ya know, you could have just grabbed onto the tail end of the storm and it would have taken you right home! What a scary time....so sad about the deaths so far. But very thankful you are okay!!!!!
Gail, Hoping you feel better tomorrow!!! Do you need one of the Tattie Tenders there to take care of you?
My DD got 2 of our computers connected to the printer on the network....was hard to do as they are different systems. I had done the prev 2 computers, but this netbook was a real challenge. Luckily she found some little quirk that someone posted, and voila! I love having my own personal computer techie...too bad they live so far away. Now if she could fix the probs with my bluray player, my.....my.....oh yeah and the......
Titz Up!!!!

Hi LadieZ.....
Am fried from the two day whirlwind trip. More later, but was a blast and the most gorgeous scenery. And the trooper who stopped me for doing 65 in a 55 mile zone was at least handsome. I should be fine, but have to mind my ways for six months.
I got to see the mouth of the Columbia River, and the other Waikiki Beach. Plus a path that wended its way through dunes, and also cranberry bogs, headlands, light houses, and oyster beds. I chowed down some amazing oysters last night.
I need to cook my piece of super fresh fish I brought home for dinner. Already working the wine. And thank goodness I have ratatouille and potatoes. So dinner is almost made and should be fab.
More later, but the most wonderful adventure. - Claire

Sounds like a fun time, Claire. But...."the other Waikiki Beach"???? Lucy, you got some "splaining to do.....j/k, but really what is that about?
Beans, oh Beans, where for art thou, dear Beans???? Missing you in da lounge, dats foah shure. And HunkyD, when are you going to reclaim your barstool?? Miss you too!!!

Just a quickie pop in here.......suitcase is packed, cabin bag packed the only thing left to pack is this here laptop. I am definitely on the count down..........................42 hours until departure!!!!!

chrissy, I hoe I can get to Jersey before you lol! gettin sad that we leave my parents tomoror, it will be tough, no doubt.
Gail, sorry to hear that some of your book clum members are idiots, so silly, woman like that often need a good slap in the face to tell them to wake the heck up. My suggestions is to have an option to throw the trouble out the dorr and tell them to drive and never come back. I loved that you came here to express this - it makes me feel honered to be a part of such a great group of gals here.
Kymn, nnice to see you - hope you are on your way to 100% finished with treatments. It is all uphill. At the blink of an eye, you will have berautiful lockes of hair and be purdy as ever!
Claire, me tinks you had a few too many tonite, another Waikiki? oh,
I hope you gals have a gweat SUNdey. I miss you all!

DorK, I know how hard it will be tomorrow, saying goodbye to your parents until you get to see them again. Are they still able to fly there to visit? It is just so hard to see a decline, but then to be so far away and not able to be with them is so much harder. I do realize those of us that have our parents are very fortunate, but it is heart-breaking nonetheless. AND like you said, I do hope you can get back to NJ before Chrissy gets there! Keep us updated on your flt status. Are you still using the teeny puter? I had a hard time first getting used to a netbook, but this is my 2nd one, and I use it more than my desktop, and am used to it now. Miss you, but so glad you are able to get online while you are there. RIght now it is hitting NY and NJ, right at this moment. So, so, scary. So many airports closed up and down the East Coast, but I noticed Atlanta airport is closed too! Unbelievable. (((HUGS))) to you, dear Dorothy.
Chrissy, Wow.....33 hr countdown right now....Thank God your trip didn't start a couple of days earlier, and am hoping everything is reopened, and safe, by the time you get to US soil.
Got up early...SIL has already started the triathlon, but hope to get there b4 he finishes!!!! Trying to wake up with some coffee first. You all stay safe! Are things ok in Maine, NM????
Hugsssss,
Kathy

Kathy, that is hilarious about the boating story and it's the wives fault that the husbands drink! As Beans would say "Oy vey!" Sounds like you had a great time with everyone and have today at the triathalon.
Gail, I thought you were gonna say "tequila makes your clothes fall off". You have such a great way of explaining how to enjoy life and that those little things really are not important and not worth the worry. I hope she GOT IT! LOL @ Irene doesn't know what she's up against.
Chrissy, 42 hours WOOOO HOOOOOO!
DorK, sorry you will be sad, I understand and will be in the same boat in a few weeks. I have not kept tabs on the storm, as the tv has not been on much. I hope you are able to make it home just fine and that things are ok there too.
Well, got results back on my bloodwork. Cholesterol is down to 215, but now my thyroid is acting up. Time before last it was just over a 4 (I think 2 is normal.....NM?) Well, now it's over 7. Went to bed yesterday at 4:30. And yes, that is afternoon. DH got the planter done in the Shady Lady. I can't wait to see if stuff will actually grow in there. Heading out this morning to get more pavers. Planter ended up costing $360.00.
0 -
Lori, What will you have to do to get your thyroid on track? Meds? Hoping you can get it down closer to normal. Guess that can make you real tired, right? Boy, if it ain't one thing, it is ten other things...shoot! Oh, expensive planter! Can't wait to see a pic!
Looks like part of the Holland Tunnel (one direction) is closed now due to flooding. Just so scary watching this, but seems like it is not as dangerous as originally thought...Thank God..Well, of course, it is still active, and all the damage not reported yet, .just hope it goes out to sea quickly and disperses!!!! Oh, they just showed a rainbow, over NJ, hope that is a sign that the hurricane is leaving!!!
update: Shoot, now they say the power in NJ could be out for DAYS! DorK, sure hope your DD is okay, and that there is still power at your house!!!!!

So new to all of this, Am revering from BMX on 8/8/11 with LAT reconstruction. Still feeling like a train wreck, but, wondering what makes sense long term. My DH and I are both huge beer fans, know lots of home brewers, have lots of great bars in my area. Since I had BMX is beer really off limits? Have read enough to give me a head ache!
