The essence of compassion is accepting others as unique individuals, without believing that they are less good for not being carbon copies of ourselves.

Hmm, this morning was like walking out the door into a big damp sponge and then walking around with it.  I have some morning outdoor work here and it is always a relief to get back inside.  I hope you all can spend the day inside.

    Blessings

You are now at a crossroads.  This is your opportunity to make the most important decision you will ever make.  Forget your past.  Who are you now?  Who have you decided you really are now?  Don't think about who you have been.  Who are you now?  Who have you decided to become?  Make this decision consciously.  Make it carefully.  Make it powerfully.

It's really something, huh !!!!  Like walking out your door into a wet, soggy hot sponge and not doing a very good job of that walking.

I must admit that we have gone through the majority of summer without the extremes of high heat and I've truly enjoyed that, but heat alone is tolerable to me as I've spent much time in the dessert in my earlier years -- the humidity just makes me want to stay inside as much as possible and only go out if I absolutely have to.

PITA-that was the name of our first dog and believe me the name definitely fit  Smile

Can't wait for the heat/humidity to leave us, with hot flashes this is not good. Good thing I still have my chemo curls cause otherwise it would be a curly, frizzy mess anyway.

Well ladies, saw the orthopedic surgeon on Friday to review the MRI. News wasn't unexpecated but still. I have some arthur, who doesn't when you get to middle age, but the reason I have been having to much pain is avascular necrosis on the top of my femur-basically the blood flow was disrupted and part of the bone is "dead". He said it is most likely from the chemo-lovely the gift that just keeps on giving! So I will be having a total hip replacement on 9/15, if let go it could get to the place of possible collapse of the structure of the joint. I already have both knees replaced so I will truly be the bionic woman, or as my older sister said, the geriatric bionic woman  Nerdy.

So that's my story for now. Hope you all have a nice, cool day, no pain and peace. You guys are the best!

Wow!  That's one side effect no one mentioned.  Well, I guess we have to be grateful when it's not mets, still!

I once asked my onco if the palpitations I was experiencing could be a side effect of chemo.  She said "anything can be side effect of chemo".  So sorry you have to go through this Mimi!

At least your onc admitted to it. I guess when you think about it we are letting them poison us with horrible chemicals, so it is hard to imagine what it is doing to the rest of our bodies. But, like you said it isn't mets and this is just another bump in the road. I guess we all will have to get used to our new normal no matter how "abnormal" that may be. Good thing I don't fly it would take me forever to get through security LOL!

Mimi....so sorry to hear that you have a hip replacement in your near future. If it's any consolation, a dear friend of mine had both hips replaced last year........one 6 months after the other and she  is getting around like a spring chicken now.  I was amazed how well she did!

Hi Lakegirl...........Glad to hear from you!  That inflammation and infection can really wreck our bodies.  It sounds like your PS has it all fgured out and is watching out for you.  Hang in there!

Hi redhead!  I've been seeing all the garden tours and gardening events that have been listed in the paper and have wondered if you've going to them!  :-)  I am also sorry to hear about your kitty.  I am a big cat person and I had an older cat that plopped right beside me, too when I was going through my journey.  Unfortunately I had to put him down, too, at the age of 19 and I was a mess for weeks.  Now we have a 5 year old black cat and a 3 year old tiger and white cat, both of which we adopted (and thus saved) from the animal shelter here in town.

I have been so busy with summer activities that I haven't been on the computer much lately.  Golf, cook-outs, fishng on the lake, bunco, and lunches with friends have monopolized my time lately.  I'm not complaining either!  Life is good!

Jackie...we have about let the summer get away from us and didn't get together!  Hope all is going well for you and your family.

Hugs to all of you who are going through treatments or dealing with problems caused from treatments.  I will try to check in more often.

The essence of love and compassion is understanding, the ability
to recognize the physical, material, and psychological suffering of
others, to put ourselves "inside the skin" of the other.  We "go inside"
their body, feelings, and mental formations, and witness for ourselves
their suffering.  Shallow observation as an outsider is not enough
to see their suffering.  We must become one with the subject of
our observation.  When we are in contact with another's suffering,
a feeling of compassion is born in us.
Compassion means, literally, "to suffer with."

    Thich Nhat Hanh

not quite as uplifting as I usually put in, but I was so touched with the caring of others that you would really deeply wish to discover and understand what another goes through.....not always easy.

Okay I keep losing my posts-it couldn't be a user problem now could it LOL!

Lago-I don't feel much like a trooper, just want this stupid pain to go away for a while. I lost last summer to treatment and now this one to pain. Oh well, hopefully in a few months I will be doing much better!

Thanks Rita, It sounds like you are really enjoying your summer-good for you.  I was surprised that there are basically no restrictions after this surgery. I had always read that with hip replacements you had to be very careful with hips, but the surgeon said just not to squat-I've never been a squatter so that won't matter!

Ladies, have a good day with no pain and peace.

    You guys are the best!

Every act has its effect.  To do nothing is an act that stems from feelings of hopelessness and despair.  Please remember, no matter how dark the future looks, you can make a difference.  When you live the true life you were sent here to live, the difference you make will enhance life rather than destroy it.  Do not spend time worrying how big a difference you make.  Anything that enhances a life makes a difference; helping one individual recover from a broken heart; easing one person's pain; helping one ugly duckling discover his or her beauty.  Keep working as long as you live, and live as long as you can, and when you finish your marathon they will hang a medal around your neck that says, "You Make a Difference."

Passion doesn't come from business or books, or even a connection with another person.  It is a connection to your own life force, the world around you and the spirit that connects with us all.  You are the source.

Books, works, music, people, sunsets all provide sparks, but only you can light the fire.

Celebrating a birthday reminds us of the goodness of life, and in this spirit we really need to celebrate people’s birthdays every day, by showing gratitude, kindness, forgiveness, gentleness, and affection.  These are ways of saying:  “It’s good that you are alive; it’s good that you are walking with me on this earth.  Let’s be glad and rejoice.  This is the day God has made for us to be and to be together.”

Lago, it is not quite a birthday, but this turned up in my quotes this morning and I had actually come close to using another one -- but the one I actually used just wouldn't let go of my thought patterns till I entered it.  Then, I read what you wrote......

Experience gained, challenges overcome, and 4 years NED.  Some things are such a treasure.  I wish you the same celebratory day for all the rest of your life, along with great length and prosperity.

Yay!  Now only if you were also 4 years along on AIs.  But that gives an extended bit of insurance.  I think I'll breathe a large sigh at my 4th year free. I know I did at 3 yrs.  Each milestones puts this further away and bring us back to a changed, though more normal outlook.

    Thanks again everyone

Doxie, 2 and 3 were big for me. 4 is good but 5 will be another bigger one. I'm 3.5 years on the AIs but I don't want to get too excited since my onc keeps hinting at 10. Can't wait till the studies are out so I know for sure.

Congrats Lago of 4 years NED!   You just give me a lift reading all your posts and seeing your pics.

I love this site.  It's like a life line when the waves are coming in faster than you can swim......

I'd like for all of you to pray for a friend I met on another thread---BIG D Beating Big C (a/k/a Joan). As if breast cancer wasn't enough, just a while after being done with rads  she had some head surgery with a biopsy and was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma about a month or so ago  (probably not spelled right) and really going thru rough time with the treatment so far.  Having trouble eating, walking, working, etc.  She lives alone in Dallas and needs our prayers sent up and ourpositive energy sent out in her direction.  Thanks.
