    Oh Vanamama -

I am so sorry that you had this horrible reaction to Taxotere. So glad that your nurse was watching so closely and that you communicated your need right away. They just do not know who will have this reaction and who will not. Bless your heart for having to deal with this.

    Vanmama,

Thankfully the nurses were following the correct protocol by staying at your side. It's good you didn't panic when it was happening. If the MO wants you to continue with chemo, there is AC and CMF. Maybe other options for your type of chemo. Hang in there this doesn't help.

Vanmama -- So sorry that you had to have this experience -- but as was said, there is no test, no way to know who might react negatively to Taxotere.  Hopefully, you will work through the rest of your txs. fine.  I had Taxotere ( 4 times ) with no issues other than some really strong bone pain for several days after each infusion.  We are all so different at times to all of the chemo's.  They ( your MO and team ) will get you on the right track for you.

    Blessings

Vanmama it happened to a friend of mine on her 2nd chemo although she managed to keep going. They gave her benadryl and she did 4 more after that with no problem. I had another friend that also had an issue with really bad neuropathy so she did have to switch to another treatment. It happens but the nurses are on it ASAP.

Oh Laura, so sorry you had that experience.  I think sometimes it happens.  Dr. M will know exactly what to do.  He may switch drugs, or he may reduce your dose and add a steroid or something to the mix.  So thankful that you told them asap and they were there wit all their skills.

Lakegirl-is this the one you struggled with?

Laura, so sorry to hear of your bad chemo experience. Hopefully they can adjust your dosage or come up with another plan for you. It was a little strange with my first Taxotere having the nurse sitting so closely staring at me, but in your case that was a very good thing!

Hoping everyone had a nice weekend and enjoyed the sunshine while it was here. All this rain should make everything get green though.

Wishing everyone a peaceful, painfree day!

Well sounds like the area will get a good washing this week.  My late mothers daffodils are blooming their hears out.  Mine aren't even showing buds yet, but her yard is more sunny than mine  My white star magnolia is opening up.  They are predicting severe weather for Thursday--my birthday.  I remember when they announced they were naming the next Hurricane "sandy" (my name) and my Dad said--OH BOY THAT WILL BE A BAD ONE.  before anyone knew...HA

friend is going with me to Urbana today to have my Derm take a look at the place that popped up under my cast.  I forgot to tell my neighbor I am back driving.  I've been letting her park in my driveway as her twin 20's sons have friends in theirs all the time.  So of course, I get up wanting to go check on my dad, vote and grab donuts before my pal comes at 10 and her car is in my driveway. She doesn't have to be at work till 9, so here I sit eating oatmeal instead of chocolate frosted donuts....  She is doing night school and working full time so she needs her rest......

Redheaded1 --- you have a busy friend and she has a great one in you.  One who will let her get un-disturbed sleep while you go without a donut.  I hope all goes well with your appt. today.  Hope Thurs. is ok.  We are getting the 'rain' and maybe some soaking too.  Ick --- but that is what makes summer so much better and helps the buds and leaves take to full life once more.

    Blessings

Derm thought the spot was questionable. Gave me the option of taking a small piece for biopsy or getting rid of the whole thing.  I told her to get it all.  She marked potentially cancerous on the specimen label.  She also took a spot that looked totally different from the web between my index finger and middle finger that was red and itchy.  Told me if I had to come back, the follow up would be "minimally invasive.".  She also gave me a huge tube of free scar gel for my incision and took a picture of it and said when I had to come back we would see how it was working...so I guess she feels that I will be returning.  She told me she had a mammogram at noon and hoped it was clean.  I told her I hoped it was too!  Last year, she hugged me when the nurse told her I had added breast cancer to my history.

Our community is reeling from a small plane crash that killed 7 men form our community who were returning from the NCAA championship game overnight.  All relatively young except for the owner of the PUB II, a campus bar that has been a part of our history for 40 plus years.  Killed our assistant ISU basketball coach, a member of the Athletic Dept. staff, a broker from the place my stocks are at, the pilot, who used to fly coach Weber and U of I folks and did a ton of mission work in Haiti, all just exceptional leaders in our community.  GOod family men.

Silence must be comprehended as not solely the absence of sound.  It is the natural environment for serenity and contemplation.  Life without silence is life without privacy.  The difference between sanity and madness is the quality of our thoughts.  Silence is on the side of sanity.

Redheaded1 -- I too am sorry to hear of your communities loss.  So difficult for the families as well as friends etc.  Prayers for strength to get through the next few days and more for acceptance and healing when things have become a bit quieter.

    Blessings

The question, "Which is the happiest season of life?" was asked of an aged man.
And he replied: "When spring comes, and in the soft air the buds are breaking
     on the trees, and they are covered with blossoms, I think, 'How beautiful is spring';
and when summer comes and covers the trees with its heavy foliage, and singing birds
are among the branches, I think, 'How beautiful is summer.'  When autumn loads them
with golden fruit, and their leaves bear the gorgeous tint of frost, I think, 'How
beautiful is autumn.'  And when it is severe winter, and there is neither foliage nor
fruit, then I look up through the leafless branches as I never could
until now, and see the stars shine in God's home.

    Diana,

Adding my prayers to yours.  Fairfield sustained almost total damage ( according to this morning's weather report ) and I'm just hoping that it is more loss of structures that will be the problem.  This time of yr. is always nerve-wracking and I just pray that we all get through it w/o major issues.

When you awaken to what I call the Authentic Self, which is the spiritual
or evolutionary impulse, what begins to emerge is the dawning recognition
of the fact that each one of us, at our highest level, is that Authentic Self,
which is actually the same energy and intelligence that originally inspired
the entire creative process.  You begin to intuit and feel directly
connected to the very impulse that initiated the whole event
fourteen billion years ago and is driving it right now.

Beautiful warm, sunny day yesterday, but sitting here waiting for rain.  I think it won't be lasting -- and it won't cool too much so all in all ----just what we get in Springtime.  I hope all you wonderful women are doing fine.  Thoughts of care coming your way.

    Blessings

Waiting for rain in Bloomington also.  Slight showers overnight and ground is muddy.
Too many dandelions and thistles coming up in my Perennial beds but the old wrist isn't gong to allow much weeding yet. Esmerelda the cat is letting her imagination get the best of her.  She has been trolloping through the house at a gallop and meowing at her shadow.....I should have so much energy.

I love spring...even the rains that have made the grass so green! The spring flowers are awakening in the wooded area around my house!

Character is the product of daily, hourly actions, words and thoughts:  daily forgiveness, unselfishness, kindnesses, sympathies, charities, sacrifices for the good of others, struggles against temptation, submissiveness under trial.  It is these, like the blinding colors in a picture, or the blending notes of music, which constitute the person.  -John MacDuff
