Above all, do not lose your desire to walk. Every day I walk myself into a state of well-being and walk away from every illness.  I have walked myself into my best thoughts, and I know of no thought so burdensome that one cannot walk away from it.

We all want recognition for our “specialness.”  But we should never take our self-worth from our society, feedback from others, or our own comparisons to others.  Our self-esteem should be based in the fact that God created us with the utmost care and has called his creation good.  In his foresight we are all made of “the right stuff.”  Our self-worth then comes from how we use it, in service to our families and communities, exercising our creative gifts, and becoming one with God.  -unattributed

We start to realize that there are anodynes in life that help us through the day. I don't care if it's a walk in the park, a look out the window, a good bubble bath-- whatever. Even a meal you like, or a friend you want to call. That helps us solve all this stuff in our head.

    Dear Kim -

I am so sorry that you are having to deal with breast cancer after having cancer as a child. I read on another thread your struggles with your first cancer. Please know that the Illinois ladies are here for you. In the midst of all of this - the Illinois Ladies thread is a soft place to land. Use it to ask questions, to vent, to connect, .... We're here for you.

    Welcome Kim,

I wish you didn't have to "find" us, but it is why we are here.  I'm quite far out ( diagnosis - 2007 ) and don't feel I'm as much help as some, but if caring about people who have this disease counts, then I think I'm right up there.  The women here are great at holding hands and giving good advice, pointing you to good places for references, and just sharing a journey that often has some rough patches.  I hope you will come as often as you need or want too -- the door will always be open here.

I try to put in a 'quote' of some kind everyday and have been doing it for the better part of the 8 yrs. I've been here.

Sending you lots of love and hugs and positive energies.

    Blessings

    Jackie

Connie...I am so glad that you stopped in to offer encouragement to the gals who are currently fighting our battle. 8 YEARS! Congratulations! I see the pictures of your kids on Facebook and I think....How can they be so big? I remember how you brought your daughter to the walks and how little she was! We have definitely been blessed and life is so good! Please keep in touch. I think of you often.

Kim, I am so sorry that you are once again facing cancer. You can come here anytime to vent or ask questions. We were all afraid when we were diagnosed. It sounds like you have a good attitude and I think that is part of the battle. Have you decided on a treatment plan yet? Please keep us updated and hugs to you!

We're down to just a couple more weeks in sunny Florida. Hopefully springtime will hit Illinois in early April. I do love the spring flowers and getting out and digging in the dirt. However, it has been good to escape the snow and cold this winter.

Love your quotes Jackie. You keep us all inspired.

As I look back at the entire tapestry of my life, I can see from the perspective of the present moment that every aspect of my life was necessary and perfect.  Each step eventually led to a higher place, even though these steps often felt like obstacles or painful experiences.

    Good morning,

I really feel Spring ( at least the opening salvo ) has arrived.  Probably about 82 degrees today and of course I'll be knee deep in loving it.  We will cool abit in the following days, but at least it seems that they will still be 'adequate' for Springtime.  I'll be keeping an eye out for other tell-tale signs with baited breath.  Lots of ideas planned and some possible steps to be taken within the week.

Rita -- only two more weeks in Fla. I sure hope good weather hangs around for your return to your woods in Illinois.  Though it is work -- there is nothing like the woods in full Spring.

Hoping you all have a marvelous Monday.

    Blessings,

    Jackie

Connie: So great to "hear your voice" after so long. So happy for your great news. We went through the dregs pretty close together.....but you were so much younger with the young kids. You always seemed like a pillar of strength.

Hello, from AZ to my sisters in Chicago area. Congrats to Connie on 8 years! Connie, you gave me the inspiration to let you all know that I just passed my 5 year point and am doing just fine. My story is so much like Connie's. I was scared out of my mind 5 years ago when I got the news, but here I am feeling like I conquered the world and celebrating the birth of our second grandchild who is now two weeks old. I am now enjoying my visit in Charlotte, NC to help take care of her.

I have not posted in probably over a year or more, but do occasionally like to check in and see how things are going with everyone in Chicagoland. So sorry to see so many new names on this thread. We need a CURE!

My husband and I moved to Anthem, AZ about 1 1/2 years ago and are loving it. But I do miss our get togethers, etc with you all there in IL. The PHX area group here is far less active, well, pretty much inactive so that has left a big void in me. It is so good to know that this thread continues to help and support so many others along this journey. You are the BEST!

Jackie,, So glad to hear that the weather is changing there and that spring is on the way. I love my iris, daffodils, and blue bonnets in the spring. If we ever leave Illinois for good, I would really miss them.

Hope everyone is having a good week.

Trials, temptations, disappointments--all these are helps instead of
hindrances, if one uses them rightly. They not only test the fiber of
character but strengthen it.  Every conquering of temptation represents
a new fund of moral energy.  Every trial endured and weathered in the
right spirit makes a soul nobler and stronger than it was before.

Those of you who have tried Arimidex, plus another AI--(femara/letrozole or Aromasin/exemestane---did you feel you had less side effects with one or the other?

I may have to try another one if my Cholesterol remains high with this last  test following a 35 day break from Arimidex, and I am wondering which one to choose. I can get Femara for 9.00 am onth or Aromasin for 20.00

I know Lago likes her Aromasin. but someone else said it gave them tinnitus and constipation so bad they went back after 2 months.   Anyone else want to share experiences?

    Redheaded,

I was on Arimidex for 5 yrs. and did really, really well.  I did get some mild aches and odd pains from time to time but it seemed these happened during weather changes more than any other time.   I did have some cholesterol spikes but they too seemed related to something else since that tended to calm as well.  I never figured that one out.  When Arimidex went generic I did have several issues and if nothing else, aches, pains etc. were going on I just felt sort of un-well all over.  Just as I was about to talk to my Dr. about things -- they all magically disappeared.

I went along for the last two and a half yrs. just feeling glad that I could stick to being able to have this further tool.  Somewhere in the last yr. of the Anastrozole generic, I noticed that it took mere seconds for me to become angry.  It was sort of frightening since that is not me.  In fact, the exact opposite is much more the case.  Because I had done so well all along --- I looked at every other possibility I could think of first and came up empty.  Finally, out of desperation I re-read the insert on the med.  Sure enough, there it was.

I don't recall if you said whether you had the generic of what you take or not.  As was mentioned by someone here? at some time, it seems many people have some issue with these pills.  If fortunate --- some people always seem to have them in a milder form than others, which for the most part turned out to be the case for me.  I do feel your concern though for the cholesterol issue.  Statin drugs are hard for many people to take and to that degree come with sometimes harsh ( so hard on the liver ) se's.  My Dr. wanted me to take a statin and I refused.  Later, I didn't need it -- whew !!!!  I was fortunate with my "anger" side effect as it came so late that I was able to get through the last few months of my Anastrozole, but it had many times when I was NOT being me for having to work soooo hard to keep from flying off the handle.   If you do you have major regrets, but if you don't a whole lot gets trapped inside -- sigh.  Sometimes you don't end up with a great answer.  I hope you will fine one for you that you can live with even if the result is just ok and no more.

    Hugs and blessings,

    Jackie
