Integrity is not a conditional word.It doesn't blow in the wind or change with the weather. It is your inner image of yourself, and if you look in there and see a person who won't cheat, then you know you never will. - John MacDonald

Take time to work, it is the price of success.
Take time to think, it is the source of power.
Take time to play, it is the secret of perpetual youth.
Take time to be friendly, it is the road to happiness.
Take time to love and be loved, it is the privilege of the Gods.
Take time to share, life is too short to be selfish.
Take time to laugh, laughter is the music of the soul.

Use what talents you possess. The woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang the best.

Perhaps the final step in the healing of all wounds is the discovery of the capacity for compassion, an intuitive knowing that no one is singled out in their suffering, that all living beings are vulnerable to loss, attachment, and limitation. It is only in the presence of compassion that we can show our wounds without diminishing our wholeness. - Rachel Naomi Remen

We should so live and labor in our times that what came to us as seed may go to the next generation as blossom, and what came to us as blossom may go to them as fruit. This expresses the true spirit in the love of humankind. - Henry Ward Beecher

Illinois ladies, hope you’re safe from these storms moving through. Ottawa (near Starved Rock) had a twister come through late this afternoon. We had a brief T-storm with heavy rain & lightning (enough to knock out satellite reception for awhile), but no damage (unlike the house in Ravenswood, 3 mi. SW of my ‘hood, burned by lightning last week).

Alls well here for now. Earlier some lightning, a super pour down and some hail that stayed quite small. Hope we have seen the last for tonight. It is about 9:15 p.m. so hopefully done.

A Native American elder once described his own inner struggles in this manner: "Inside of me there are two dogs. One of the dogs is mean and evil. The other dog is good. The mean dog fights the good dog all the time." When asked which dog wins, he reflected for a moment and replied, "The one I feed the most."

Greatness is not found in possessions, power, position, or prestige. It is discovered in goodness, humility, service, and character.

Yikes— a week ago I was in t-shirt & sandals; this morning had to put the hood back on my winter parka, wear gloves, and put out ice melt on the deck stairs. Gotta love IL weather. I have to keep clothes racks out because I can’t pack away off-season clothing—never know when I’ll need it. And my size keeps changing (up & down).

Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could; some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can.Tomorrow is a new day; you shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense. - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Thank goodness for a bright sun out this morning. Late last evening on letting the dogs out one last time before bed there was some sleet and snow mix coming down. It will stay cooler today ( not horrid though ) and slowly warm going back to good numbers. I'm looking forward to getting much more active than I have been and getting strength back after being pretty much a lay-about for a week and a half. Seems forever when you are not much used to a behavior.

I hope all have a nice gradual warming and lead into Spring. I'm grateful we are headed there and I really look forward to seeing the very odd winter pass on.

Every decision that you make either moves you toward your personality, or toward your soul. Each decision you make is an answer to the question, "How do you choose to learn love?", "How do you choose to learn authentic empowerment-- through doubt and fear, or through wisdom?"

Let every dawn of morning be to you as the beginning of life, and every setting sun be to you as its close:—then let every one of these short lives leave its sure record of some kindly thing done for others—some goodly strength or knowledge gained for yourselves.

We can practice the art of Reverence for Life by becoming aware that God is the source of all life and that we are one with life. . . . By having reverence for ourselves and our own God-given talents and abilities and dedicating them to helping others.By seeking and finding a work through which we can best contribute to the lives of others. . . . By always reaching out to life, to help life to grow, to express itself, and to fulfill its highest destiny. . . . By striving to live affirmatively.By looking for the good in life and glorifying it. - Wilferd A. Peterson

Befriending life is less a matter of knowledge than a question of wisdom. It is not about mastering life, controlling it or exerting our will over it, no matter how well intentioned our will may be.Befriending life is more about harmlessness than it is about control.Harmlessness requires connection. It means listening to life from the place in us that is connected to the wholeness around us, the place in us that is also whole. - Rachel Naomi Remen

There's always room for expressing our uniqueness and love and changing the world with it, no matter what our position in life.I saw on the news a New York City subway conductor who sent out poetry, love, and messages of good cheer over his loudspeaker system instead of the usual "Stand clear of the closing doors. "He is a true original. So are you—if you will simply learn to express your originality.Share your life with those who are also on the journey and you will change the world. - Bernie Siegel

    not because they deserve forgiveness,

Without forgiveness, we remain tethered to the person who harmed us.
We are bound with chains of bitterness, tied together, trapped.
Until we can forgive the person who harmed us,
that person will hold the keys to our happiness; that person will be our jailer.
When we forgive, we take back control of our own fate and our feelings.
    We become our own liberators.
Forgiveness, in other words, is the best form of self-interest.
This is true both spiritually and scientifically.
We don't forgive to help the other person.
    We don't forgive for others.
    We forgive for ourselves.
    - Desmond Tutu (Archbishop Emeritus and recipient of Nobel Peace Prize)

The full measure of a man is
not to be found in the man himself,
but in the colors and textures that
come alive in others because of him.

One of my all time favorites:

We collect data, things, people, ideas, profound experiences, never penetrating any of them. . . . But there are other times. There are times when we stop. We sit still. We lose ourselves in a pile of leaves or its memory. We listen and breezes from a whole other world begin to whisper.

However humble our circumstances or undramatic our talents, our true purpose has been revealed. We were meant to be this person at this time and place. Not only for ourselves, but for you and other people—we were meant to make this particular contribution to the world. And so we must do it well.Do it with faith and with patience, with all our strength and passion. And in so doing discover who we really are. - Marjorie Holmes

May good and faithful friends be yours, wherever you may roam.
May peace and plenty bless your world with joy that long endures.
May all life's passing seasons bring the best to you and yours.

Over the years I have come to believe that life is full of unchosen circumstances, that being human has to do with the evolution of our individual consciousness and with it, responsibilities for choice. Pain and joy both come with life.I believe that how we respond to what happens to us and around us shapes who we become and has to do with the psyche or the soul's growth.

The story of a love is not important - what is important is that one is capable of love. It is perhaps the only glimpse we are permitted of eternity.

If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant: if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome.
