A heightened state of awareness comes when we look, and then look again, and then relax into whatever situation we are in. When we have a capacity for fascination with simple things, we are able to sit peacefully for hours on a park bench, or in an airport, engrossed by the different gaits and gestures of people as they walk, talk, and stand. We develop the ability to be patient as we stand in line at the grocery store because we have the ability to look with fascination and wonder at all that surrounds us.

In the face of circumstances that drive others to madness, awakened people
have a kind of calmness and serenity inside them. They're in charge of how
they react. They're not calculating, they're not cold, they're not emotionless
people—they simply know how not to make negative assessments of the
world and what's in it. They practice having healthy reactions to whatever
Wayne Dyer0 -
Honest and courageous people have very little to say about either
their courage or their honesty. The sun has no need to boast
of his brightness, nor the moon of her effulgence.
Hosea Ballou0 -
There cannot be a sense of abundance or the experience of prosperity without appreciation. You cannot find beauty unless you appreciate beauty. You cannot find friendship unless you appreciate others. You cannot find love unless you appreciate loving and being loved. If you wish abundance, appreciate life. -William R. Miller

Gratefulness brings joy to my life. How could I feel joy in what I take for granted? So I stop taking for granted, and there is not end to the surprises I find. A grateful attitude is a creative one, because, in the final analysis, opportunity is the gift within the gift of every moment-- the opportunity to see and hear and smell and touch and taste with pleasure. -David Steindl-Rast

Our anxiety does not empty tomorrow of its sorrows, but only empties today of its strengths.
Charles H. Spurgeon0 -
Keep me away from the wisdom which does not cry, the philosophy which does not laugh, and the greatness which does not bow down before children.

If you're wondering when you should give to or serve someone else,
I believe in doing it spontaneously, perhaps in a shared moment of
emotion. Or any time you feel like someone needs your support.
Whether you do it all the time, occasionally, or when the opportunity
arises, just do it. Reach out and give of yourself and your time.
I have seen, time and again, that happiness and enjoyment arise from
being of service in simple ways.

No one is happy or free who lives only for him or herself. Joy in living comes from immersion in something one recognizes to be bigger, better, worthier, more enduring than his or her own self. True happiness and true freedom come from squandering one's self for a purpose. -Carl W. McGeehon

Take care to see that you don't lose sight of the one thing that is constant, beautiful, and true: Everything will be fine—and it will turn out that way because of the special kind of person you are. So, beginning today and lasting a lifetime through, hang in there, and don't be afraid to feel like the sun is shining just for you. -Collin McCarty

There is a vitality, a life force, an energy that is translated through you;
and because there is only one of you in all of time, this expression is unique.

Here's our quotation for today:
There is no more searching test of the human spirit than the way it behaves when fortune is adverse and it has to pass through a prolonged period of disappointing failures. Then comes the real proof of the person. Achievement, if one has the ability, is a joy; but to take hard knocks and come up smiling, to have your mainsail blown away and then rig a sheet on the bowsprit and sail on—this is perhaps the deepest test of character. -Harry Emerson Fosdick0 -
We restore the holiness of the world through our loving-kindness and compassion. Everyone participates. It is a collective task. Every act of loving-kindness, no matter how great or small, repairs the world. All those ever born have shared this collective work since the beginning of time.

I remember the morning that I first asked the meaning of the word "love. . . ." Miss Sullivan put her arm gently round me and spelled into
my hand, "I love Helen." "What is love?" I asked. . . . "Love is something like the clouds that were in the sky before the sun came out," she replied. . . . "You cannot touch the clouds, you know; but you feel the rain and know how glad the flowers and the thirsty earth are to have it after a hot day. You cannot touch love either; but you feel the sweetness that it pours into everything. Without love you would not be happy or want to play." The beautiful truth burst upon my mind--I felt that these were
invisible lines stretched between my spirit and the spirits of others.Love is like a beautiful flower which I may not touch, but whose
fragrance makes the garden a place of delight just the same.0 -
Who will tell whether one happy moment of love or the joy of breathing or walking on a bright morning and smelling the fresh air is not worth all the suffering and effort that life implies?
Erich Fromm0 -
When you find yourself in a frustrating situation repeatedly, instead of fighting it or asking why this always seems to happen, try asking yourself, "What am I supposed to be learning here?" You may be surprised at the answers that come from within you. Life's lessons may be viewed as difficulties or challenges to be overcome, but in reality they are exercises in fine-tuning that will make our efforts more effective in the long run. We are developing skills, attitudes, and perspectives that we need to move forward with insight and awareness. -Gail Pursell Elliott

Every beauty and greatness in this world is created by a single thought or emotion inside a human being. Every thing we see today, made by past generations, was, before its appearance, a thought in the mind of a man or an impulse in the heart of a woman. -Khalil Gibran

When love fills your life, all limitations are gone. The medicine this sick world needs so badly is love.

There is sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition, and of unspeakable love.
Henry Irving0 -
The knowledge that another has felt as we have felt, and seen things not much otherwise than we have seen them, will continue to the end to be one of life's choicest blessings.

We came here because the earth is abundant and alive--a rich,
rich field of lessons for us to learn. The lessons are not comfortable,
because if we weren't challenged, it would mean that we didn't need
to learn these lessons of the soul: courage, patience, faith, learning
to love, embracing eternal life, and the most magical lesson of all:
It's not what I do, it's knowing I am. We are here to learn about love,
to let others love us, to discover that love is a living force--real,
broad, encompassing. I have also learned that universal love is there
for me, and will be there for me, if I'm open to it and believe in it.
Melody Beattie0 -
When you make the decision to look at. . . your own life and the way you think about it, you do something courageous. You dare to be yourself. It may be terrifying to search inward, particularly when it's so easy to look over someone else's shoulder. After all, when you peer inside, it's hard to know if you've made the correct choice. What if the answers are wrong? What if you don't know enough? But even if someone else's answers are right, they may not be right for you. Making the distinction may not always be easy, but once you see the benefits, you'll develop more faith in what's inside your own heart. -Leslie Levine

Non-violence leads to the highest ethics, which is the goal of all evolution. Until we stop harming all other living beings, we are still savages.
Thomas A. Edison0 -
We the decent people of the world stand for the kind of life that will be good for all of the people, all of the time, everywhere. We believe that this is a beautiful universe and that it is made for love and not for hate; for peace and not war; for freedom and not slavery; for order and not riot; for compassion and not violence; for happiness and not misery. We believe that the ultimate decency is to help people and never harm people, to lift people and not degrade them, and to respect the dignity of all people as individual human beings. -Wilferd A. Peterson

The tapestry of life continues to be woven. Occasionally a chance arises to repair an older, tattered piece of the weave. Something happens to jolt our awareness back in time to an event that resulted in tears and rips. With new, more mature vision, we see the circumstances in present time and have compassion for the unclear events of the past. While the new experience is being woven into the design, the old rip is simultaneously being repaired. All is well.
Bessie Senette0 -
As long as there's that us-ness and me-ness and you-ness, there will
never be an all of us together. What we need to do is go up in a
spaceship together and look down at Earth and recognize that
we are all inhabitants of this fragile little planet. Instead of looking for
the things that separate us, instead of building more weapons to destroy
us, we must begin looking for ways that we can all get along.
Wayne Dyer0 -
I want to be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work the more I love. I rejoice in life for its own sake. Life is no brief candle to me; it is a sort of splendid torch which I've got a hold of for the moment, and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations. -George Bernard Shaw

To possess a rich life of wholeness that brings happiness into the soul,
is to show loving and caring characteristic traits toward others.
