Oh Kats!  Thanks for sharing that picture!  My son lives in Lexington and that looks just like what we pass as we get get near his house!  You are such a special person and a special grandma!  It looks like the project was a complete success.  That should have built some confidence for your granddaughter!

    Hugs to both of you!

    Rita-

Looks like we were posting at the same time so I didn't see the pictures you posted of the walk.

Great pictures, seems like quite a big turn out. It was a shame that the weather was what it was for the Y-Me Mother's Day walk here in Chicago.

Thanks for the comment on my granddaughter's project. The kids were given 2 months to do the project and believe me 'we' needed the whole 2 months to complete it. She put the finishing touches on it the night before it was due.

WAM...Wendy, I'm so glad you decided to join us here.  Perhaps everyone would have a better idea about how they could help or respond if you would tell them as much as you know to date....your type if cancer, size, er/pr classification, mri results, etc.  If you could let us all know where you've been in the past weeks, we'll be able to help you better as you move on with your journey.  I think you'll find these ladies to be a tremendous source of information, help, and support over the next months...and of course I am only a short golf-cart trip away if you need me or just want to talk.

I'll catch up with the rest of you later, gals.  It's off to see the beautician!

Hope everyone is enjoying this lovely day!

    Hi Ladies,

Sorry I've been lax, but what a busy weekend, my son and I went to the walk we were on TV, he ran in 24 minutes, it was freezing cold.  I made a wonderful dinner, the kids helped, even Vic helped,  it was a great day.

Congrats on the article Laura and have a wonderful trip, you sure deserve it.

Rita you look beautiful. I love the mention of Illinois girls.

My daughter started having an asthma attack last night and by today it was really bad we spent the whole day in ER, she's much better now. She fell asleep on the couch I think I'll move her to bed and go to sleep with her.

    Love to all

Morning all!  No dsl yesterday, and now no cell phones as the tower is out.  Hmmmmmm!  I didn't even bother with a graphic today!

Kats....your granddaughter is so cute, and so talented. I've driven thru Kentucky and her project looks exactly like how I remember that state.  She is very talented!

Laura....be careful, Miss Lead-foot!  But then you are so cute, you'd probably just talk the ossifer outta that speeding ticket.

Sabrina...what is it with crazy neighbors?  And then...you are so right....in the big scheme of things, these are just so small and petty happenings that it really doesn't matter.  I am so glad Elizabeth (that's her name, correct?) is doing so much better.  And when did your article appear in the paper?  Would like to read about you!

Rita....thanks for walking for all of us!  The pictures are so great, and inspiring.

Nancy, Leesa...I can't believe you guys ventured out!  What a horrible day...and how inspiring you are that you went anyway.

    Blackjack...how are you feeling?

Jackie....chia head huh?  I remember those days!  Now I have a cute hairstyle but being so short, with the product on it....I look very strange in the am, believe me!  DH thinks I am a scream - literally.

    Connie...how was your weekend?

WAM....I can maybe help you with the Her2+.  All I read in the beginning was how terribly aggressive it is, and how it likes to come back as distant mets.  I was horrified.  And then I met my third and present oncologist who said, yeah - it can be bad but you have Herceptin where all the other people don't so in a way you are luckier.  Took a while for that to filter in my little brain and then I read all I could about our type of BC and everything I could about Herceptin.  The cardiac damage it can cause DID worry me, but I figured as long as I had the Muga's or Echo's and we all kept track of any cardiac symptoms, I would be OK....and I was just fine.  The se's I got from Herceptin were just the 3 usual ones....a headache as the infusion started which lasted 3 days, this went away after about the 5th infusion.  A drippy nose which was irritating...your nose would just all of a sudden...run!  This stopped about 4 months into treatment.  I also got the nail issues, they just break and split and peel in layers.  I still have this problem, but it does seem better and I had my last H 1/23/2008 so maybe they are finally growing out.  They are in clinical trials for "super" Herceptin which just doesn't shut off the over-expressing genes, it kills them!  You may be able to be put in a clinical trial for this!  There are also some clinical trials starting up (early days tho) for doing H for 2 years, instead of one.  And the Univ of Wash at Seattle is working on a vaccine for us, which should be ready for clinical trials soon.  Wouldn't that be wonderful!  Just like a flu shot, Wam...once a year and we are protected from this type of BC.  Sounds like a dream  I had carboplatin and taxotere as my chemo, every 3 weeks and I did extremely well with that.  If I can help with anything else as it pertains to Herceptin/Her2+ you can PM me, or e-mail me.  Just ask Rita for my e-mail address...There is also another website, Her2support.com which I went to for about 6 weeks but it was very scary, very dark so I just stay here.  There is a thread on this website for us gals here too.  I love the stories about the gals who unfortunately started out as Stage IV's, but have been on Herceptin for 5, 6, 7 years and are doing fine and are NED, so will be on this drug for life.  Wendy....you will do fine!

Everybody else, have a wonderful day.  I am off to spend the day with a gal I worked with for 15 years, who has just been dx'd with parkinson's.  Yikes.  This getting old business........I don't think I like it!

    Tops down, fists up!

Nicki,  Thanks for a lovely sunrise graphic this morning!

Laura, I've got to get to the track this summer to see you race!  In the meantime, enjoy your Rocktober ladies and Vegas!  I am so envious!!!! Win, win, win!  (and if for some reason you don't win big, heaven forbid, just remember that you are still a winner with all of us!!!)

Leesa, what a horrible day you had for the Chicago race!  Thanks for hanging in there and congrats on being interviewed and being such a celebrity!  People everywhere are just drawn to the ladies on this thread!  Hmmm........must be our magnetic personalities, eh???  LOL

Jackie, so when do the rads actually start and how are you feeling now that you're several days out from the chemo?

Wendy, you are so right!  Tops down and fists up! I was going to put the top down for my ride to the beauty shop yesterday but it was still a bit too cool!  It won't be long now and it will stay down for most of the summer! (at least I hope!!!)

Hey Blackjack...how's it going and how many ladies do we have signed up for the May 28th evening dinner?

Well I need to get going.  My cleaning lady will be here soon and I'm going to meet WAM at the golf course for 9 holes of golf this morning.  We still have a week to terrorize the course before her surgery.  Then I guess I'll just have to plop her in the Cub cart beside me and take her around with me anyway while she's healing!

Have a great day gals!  Hey Karin...I miss you.  Where did you go?

Well hi to all and darn if it doesn't sound like we are due for rain and maybe even some hail.  This is quite tiresome to me, but... we are just getting a bit cleaned up after the wind/rain storm of a couple days ago.  Prayed for spring and now it's here---with all the wind, rain, and other events and I'm still griping.  50 lashes for me I guess.

Yep I am a CHIA ( I got such a kick out of that ) but it's fantastic to see hair coming back.  I never really doubted ????? it, I don't think but now I'm worried about the AI ( five yr. pill ).  Some thin your hair or so I've read.  I'm trying to stay as positive as I can about that.  My hair was thin and fine already....and seems like I will start this pill after tomorrow...so my hair won't really even be back yet.  Well, I won't miss what I never had if it turns out that way, huh !!!

Anyway...big day is tomorrow.  We go in, get blood tests, X-ray and then on to Dr. Lingamurthy's office where we will discuss which pill I will take and then where the rads will be preformed.  I'm hoping that I will be able to talk him into doing it here, but I'm not holding my breath.  I will do whatever they say though.  I came through all that ( oh it did seem so long at the time ) chemo---even though it was long because it was every three weeks....so I'm not going to wimp out just because I can't go where I'd like to.

I'm still having some throat/mouth issues, and my energy level is not great.  Also toenails and fingernails....but I'm not highly concerned.  Maybe Dr. L can give me an idea of how much longer I'll need the Magic Mouthwash which is all they have me doing for the throat right now.  I presume it's enough.....I hate to think I'm holding something at bay with the mouthwash......and that to actually be rid of it will take something a bit more powerful.  We'll see I guess.

I'm just looking forward to finding out how things will go so I can try and plan the summer for myself.

I am so looking forward as well to getting my energy back----don't even need all of it...just enough to work up enough enthusiasm to keep on with some of the projects I've started.  I'm cleaning out my computer/junk room right now.  Of course, I've got several rooms that fit that description but I will get there.....so much got started and dropped at the end of last year.

Hope you all have a good day....sounds like the really rocky weather will be in the southern part of the state.

    Hi girls -

I'm back!  We had the best time ever!  It was non-stop fun for 4 days.

Sorry I haven't had a chance to go back and look at the 5 pages of posts I missed.   I hope everyone is doing well.

I don't have much time as I'm trying to get caught back up at work.

Yesterday, I had my 3 month onc appt.  All looks well.  I have a breast MRI scheduled for June 2nd.

I'll check back in later!  Have a great day everyone!

Leesa-Hope your daughter is feeling better.

Laura- really want to come see you race too!

Connie-glad you're back and that you had a great time. I have my MRI on Friday yikes. I'm still wondering and worrying how they will check the implant side. Why can't they do an MRI on that side too? I will ask at my doc appt next week. I believe I was told that there isn't any breast tissue left, but how can there not be?

Jackie- good luck at your doc appt. Hope you can do your rads where you want.

back soon, everyone else take care.

Michele, good luck on Friday.  I know how anxiety-ridden these tests are!  Hang in there!  I will be sending good vibes and prayers your way for a clear MRI.

Connie...so glad you had a good time!  It appears that I will be following you on the 3rd with my mammos.  Now that will be a great week, won't it?

Jackie...we got some of your ugly weather up here.  I went and golfed this afternoon and just froze.  The wind was terrible and it was COLD.  As much as I like being on the golf course, I was really ready to come home and curl up with a good book.

I hope everyone had a good day.  I'll check back in tomorrow!

Connie-what about the other side? will they do an MRI too?

Wendy and WAM-Regarding the herc side effects. I never got headaches from the tx (yes I did get headaches during the night more often than usual, but I still don't know if that was from the herc. The onc thought it could have been estrogen related-chemopause.)

Drippy nose-yes I had that too.

My nails did not have a problem although I would get little (ouch) cracks in the finger tips by the nail. This went away after a couple of days though.

Wendy-you are very knowledgeable on the tx in trials etc. Thanks for the info-it helped me too!

Happy B-Day Pat, hope it's special.  Today is my big day.  Hope all goes well.  Will see if Dr. L wants to continue the meds I got for the embedded tick.  Also, all those other things you know.

We hope it stays dry for our ride but no way of knowing.  Do here some rumbling outside.

We were able to mow yesterday---though it took two tries.  Had to wait for a rain and then some dry out time and go back to it before dinner.  All looks nice though...none of the debris from the last rain and wind storm.

Hope you all have a fantastic and you know I will be back later.

A big thank you to everyone for all the nice birthday wishes! I'm spending the day with the workman, as they syarted the demo on my bathrooms today. Might not sound like fun, but I am happy to start so we can finish!

Jackie...Good luck today, and I hope you can do rads close to home. The most important thing about rads is getting the latest equipment, but most places are competitive and have it. 3D conformal, or IMRT is what it's called. Best of luck with tests and labs.

Karin...I didn't know you had such heat waves in Oregon. We get our 95 about July or August. Today it's cool and cloudy, perfect day to stay inside and work. I'm cleaning up after the guys, but I don't mind.

Leesa...I hope you are doing much better with your chemo today, using the extra decadron. I'm thinking of you. Heard you looked really cute in your pink wig!

Kats...I too love your avatar! Very partial to cats.

Connie and Mich101....Hope your MRI's are uneventful. Thinking of you both as you go through these tests. Mich...Can you call your doctor and ask to have both breasts done if it would give you more reassurance? I think MRI is the way they check on implants if that is what is bothering you. As long as you are there anyway, it would seem possible, and less trouble than going back. I believe they use contrast dye also, so doing it all at once makes sense.

Wendy...We miss you, is your DSL down? Hope you're feeling good today.

Rita...You were brave to even try golf today. I'm inside wearing a warm sweat shirt, and vacuuming up construction dust all day. The sun is starting to peak out though, and I hope it does for what's left of the afternoon. Loved the pictures, and you had such a better day for walking than Sunday turned out to be.

Michele...I'm not eating cake, I'm eating cookies! Thank you.

    JanClare....Let's compare remodeling notes.

Hugs to all. Have to get ready for younger daughter's visit. She's coming down from Madison to attend concert, {Duran Duran} and bringing a friend to spend the night, so I have to get some dinner ready. A lot of us sharing the bathroom tomorrow morning!
