Deena- sending you so many ((((HUGS))).   Share away!  What an awful thing to have to find out.  Our group is here for you,  storm, vent, and whine if you would like.  We'll try and find you a comfortable "chair" here.  Please let us know what we can do for you!

Morning all...boy am I a wimp or what!  Came downstairs around 5:30 cuz it was so cold with all the windows open upstairs and its 51 outside????  And it's 66 inside????  I turned on the heat for a half-hour.  Jeesh.  But it should be a lovely weekend.

Deena...welcome to our group.  Surely not the news you ever wanted to hear.  As JanClare said, please come here to just...well, just whatever.  We have big shoulders for you to cry on, long arms to give you hugs and we have all heard 4-letter words, should you need to use them.  share anything you would care to....we are hear to listen always, comfort when we can, share knowledge and insight when we are able.  Anything you need...PLEASE let us know, okay?

I haven't yet scoped out the house for ants but I did buy this stuff "Home Defense" and walked around the house, spraying the foundation and the deck.  With the nice weather we've been keeping our front door open and this is where I see about 90% of them.

JulieR....you have one terrific support system!  Your BF sounds like a doll....definitely a keeper.  How's his SIL doing?  Are they going to start some sort of tx?  Surgery?

Susan....I do know about "Relax the Back" stores, but thanks for reminding me as of course I had forgotten that they exist!  From what I gather from the therapist my lower spine and tailbone were completely twisted...almost like a scoliosis!  She has been adjusting them every session and then I go home to do exercises.  My pain is on the L side but what has happened from years of bad posture and sitting funny (legs tucked up underneath me to one side) I have created a gap that let the disk out...so I have been teaching my ligaments/muscles on the R side to untighten (they have been overstretched) and have to teach everything on my left to stretch and un-inhibit.  If that makes any sense.  She did "nerve flossing" yesterday...well, that wasn't pleasant at all BUT...while I am sore and stiff this am, almost NO nerve pain.  So this PT stuff does work...very interesting.  Wow...am I boring or what????  I just find it all fascinating.  Simple adjustments, simple exercses...big relief.

Jackie...sounds like you are feeling better.  I'm sure being home helps as well!  Enjoy your 4th and I do hope the sun makes an appearance.  You know, girl...you keep teasing us with all these recipes...but you never share!!!!!  C'mon there Miss Jackie....grape salad?  Now that sounds good!  And speaking of food...

Oh Smerf....I laughed out loud!  Yes indeed.  Keep the men away from the watermelon!  Step away from the fruit!  I must have been thinking this very thing as I ALWAYS buy watermelon this time of year....and I bought bananas/grapes instead.

Karin...how's the weather out there?  And better not feed any watermelon to your fish  LOL!

Off for my 2nd cuppa...4th of July and it's too cold right now to sit outside?  Strange.

Have a wonderful, happy and safe holiday!

For those who watched "Swingtown" last night...a little quote from an old Helen Reddy song...

"If I have to, I can face anything.  I am strong.  I am invincible.  I am woman."

Deena....glad to meet you.  Sorry it was this way, but as mentioned by everyone else, tons of room here and an open door for whatever you might need.

Hmmm....found the disk/back problem fascinating.  Well, the description actually,  I don't think anyone I've ever talked too has been able to 'nail' it down  quite so throughly as you and your therapist Wendy.  This is good since it is easier to cooperate when you have a high understanding of the issue and are not left groping in the dark all the time or not given as much info in layman's terms as can be presented.

Ok, my dear Wendy and everyone else.  I am going to give you my recipe for Grape Salad.  A story ( isn't there always one ) to go along with.  A kissin' cousin ( she is actually the other secretary at work ) was going to a family reunion in another state last year.  She needed something easy since she would have to try and "cook" from her motel.  I gave her this recipe and when the 'emcee' who was to give a speech about the family tree got up to the podium, he started out by praising Lois's salad for nearly 10 mins.  This recipe is all over the United States now and Lois is immortal---at least to her family.

    GRAPE SALAD

    2 lbs. red seedless grapes

    8 oz. sour cream

    3 oz. cream cheese softened

    1/2 c. sugar

    1/2 c. brown sugar

    3/4 c. pecans, ground fine

Stir grapes, sour cream, cream cheese and sugar together.

Mix brown sugar and pecans together.

Sprinkle on top of first mixture.

That's it---easy but you would not believe how good it tastes.  There are lots of Grape Salad recipes out there, but I've never seen one ( most of my family has used this one for years ) this easy, and with a dish that goes empty as quick as this one usually does.

    Peanut Butter Pie

    8 ozs. cream cheese

    1/2 c. sugar

    1/2 cup p-nut butter ( I use crunchy cause I like it better )

    1 tsp. vanilla

    1 carton Cool Whip

1 9 in. graham cracker crust.

Mix cream cheese, sugar, peanut butter, vanilla and Cool Whip.  Refrigerate for at least three hours.

Deena, thanks for coming into the thread.  As Julie and others have posted,  there are so many treatments.  I am so happy you came to this thread as the people here are so wonderful.  There is also information on the metastasis thread provided by women with Stage IV cancer.  I only mention it because they may be able to help and share with you on ways to beat this thing, and so you may want to introduce yourself on that thread as well.

Anyway, I know this is all hard for you and family.  You mention that you have a wonderful husband!  That is a blessing, isn;t it?  Come back soon and let us know about your day!

Jackie, I copied and pasted the grape salad recipe.  I may try that along with all the other foods we are serving..  WE have my grandbaby's wagon all decorated for the parade.  Life is good

Love to all on this Fourth of July!  I wish all wars would be over.. Susan

PS:  I watched the Kite Runner last night.  Fantastic.

Deena - welcome to the site. Try not to be discouraged. There are so many advances being made daily in the treatment of bc. I have a friend in Henry. I think their "go to" town is Chillicothe, if I remember correctly. She is also a breast cancer survivor.

Jackie - are you THRILLED to be home? Thanks for the recipes. I wish I had some sour cream. I'd make that grape one to take to the cookout tonight. I sent you an envelope last weekend with some pictures in it. Wonder if you got it.

Ants, ants, ants! I learned a lot reading all of your posts, girls. Sure didn't know they came in from the rain. We've had tons of rain so that adds up. Also didn't know you aren't supposed to spray them. So, I put out some bait traps and hope they take it back to their home. Where do you get Home Defense - a hardware store? Don't think I've seen it at WalMart, but maybe I just didn't know what to look for. The things you girls teach me!!

Well, my niece (whose wedding I photographed) is going to be at the cookout tonight, so I'm trying to get her scrapbook done to give to them. Better get back at it.

It's nice and cool and sunny here. DH and I had coffee on the front porch. That was a first. He works 6 days a week. Now he's on his first nap of the day. Sons-in-law invited him to golf but he thought it would be more fun to nap when he wanted to!

    Happy 4th!

Ok TdBear....this one is for you......... I will tell you what I change because it just seems easier to me though this is one of the easiest you'll ever make anyway.

    BEST BUTTERFINGER CAKE

18 ozs German chocolate cake mix

1 8 oz container Cool Whip

1 12 oz jar caramel ice cream topping

1 14 oz can of Eagle Sweetened Condensed Milk

3 7 oz king size butterfinger candy bars.

Preheat oven to temperature specified on the cake mix box.

Prepare the cake as directed on the box

Bake cake in 9 x 13 glass cake pan, for as long as directed by cake mix box.

When done allow to cool until just barely warm.

When barely warm take a wooden spoon handle and poke holes in the top of the cake,  Put as many holes you you want.

Take carmel and drizzle over top of the cake allowing it to run into the holes.  Use the whole jar, although I save a sm, amt.  About 1/4 of a cup.  I also save about 1/4 of the sweetened condensed milk. Tell you why soon.

Take the sweetened condensed milk and drizzle over the top of the cake allowing it to run into the holes.  Use the whole can here to...though saving 1/4 can if you want to do what I do later.

At this point I take the butterfinger candy bars ----  here again I don't use the big bars.  I get a bag of the small bars ( slightly bigger than the bite size ) and I take a sharp knofe once they are open and sort of slice them....probably about 1/4 inch or so each slice and about half the bag...more if you really like them.

I sprinkle this all over the cake .

Hopefully, by this time the cake is completely cool and you can spread the Cool Whip on top.

Once that is done I take a few more of the candy bars....maybe 4 or 5 and cut as before.

    Then sprinkle those on top.

Next take the condensed milk and carmel topping....heat slightly in microwave....I watch this closely and use way less power.  Mix together and drizzle over cake.

You can also drizzle a little chocolate syrup over the cake if you have it.  I usually don't.

It makes a beautiful cake.....and usually you end up with a very empty cake dish.

Mary Jane....I did get those pictures--thank you very much.  I meant to send you a pm letting you know and guess I got side-tracked just as I was ready to do so.  I'm so sorry.

Here's another cake ( been around for a long time ) that I do a little different and if I take it anywhere someone always asks for the recipe....so this one is for you Mary Jane.

    PEACH DUMP CAKE

1 box pecan cake mix ( you can use yellow or spice if you like, but I always use pecan )

    I can peach pie filling

1 ( 20 oz. can ) crushed pineapple, drained well..

    1 cup coconut

1 cup chopped nuts--pecans I've messed up and had to use walnuts so they will work.

1&1/2 sticks oleo or butter cut thin or melted.

Layer as listed starting with fruit and ending with dry cake mix. Finish by drizzling the butter all over the dry cake mix.

    Bake @ 350% for 35 to 40 mins in 9 x 13 pan.

this one usually comes home pretty empty too.

Wendrew/Susan/maryjane - I hope your SIL is doing better. As for the ants...here's our solution: Talstar liquid, one court costs about $70.  Mix about 2 ounces with a gallon of water and it will get you by for at least a couple of months. dh sprays the exterior perimeter of our house several times a year..we live in a forest...and we are bug free! This quart has lasted 3 years - same stuff exterminators use, amazing. http://kill-fireants.com/mcart/index.cgi?ID=97255694&PID=IT330&code=13

LEESA - I AM THINKING BOUT YA! Hoping you're doing well...love ya!

JulieR - So sorry you had to deal with that BITC*....she needs to be written up...You have waaaay too much on your plate right now to have had to deal with that. Unfortunately, there are BAD nurses, BAD doctors, etc... I hope you're enjoying the weekend...despite it all...I will be thinking about you on Monday...keep smiling...

Deena - Welcome...we will help you through this....hang in there girl! I too was dx'd w/ILC...rarer than most bc's...I wish you the very best...you will love this group of girls...

blackjack - WHAT PART OF THE WORLD ARE YOU IN? I just know you're having a great weekend! Let's talk soon.

Ellen - Best wishes to you...I am hoping the very best for you with your upcoming treatments...

Jackie - Thanks for all the recipes...hope you're doing well!

    ----------------------------------------------

HOPE you are all enjoying this weekend...I think it goes without saying that we try to make the most of every minute...love you all!

Me again!!!  Back to finish my thoughts, haha.....

Just want to thank everyone for their support, and I know that all of my IL BC Sisters will be with me on Monday.

ANTS!! I've had the best luck with the Combat brand ones (6 pack at walmart for under $2 I believe).

Another thing that works - baby powder.  Ants will not cross a line of baby powder.  I have it sprinkled along the garage door (they come in under there) and outside near my patio door.   Smells kind of nice & non-toxic too!!    The combo of products has helped tremendously.

Hope you all enjoyed the 4th & it looks like a nice day out there today (at least in NE area of the state.. hope it's nice for all of you!)

    Hugs, JulieR

Morning!  Hope your holiday was great!  We elected, due to my back, not to go anywhere.  But as it turns out I was fine but we just vegged at home, but ate really well...nice an peaceful and even got a little nap in which I never do!  Napping is good!

JulieR...baby powder?  What a neat idea!  So far I havve not seen another ant inside AND....none outside either since I sprayed the perimeter with Home Defense.  Now of course I am worried about that....you know, OK...where are you ant-guys?  Are you planning a sneak attack?

Blackjack...sounds like you had a great day!  Is your boat on Geneva Lake?

I have to run....DH just yelled from upstairs that he dropped the mouthwash bottle and spilled it all over the floor...and it was a new bottle!  Great.  Men..

    Hi everyone,

Nice holiday yesterday though I did have some doubts---shame on me.  Seems the sun stayed mainly hidden until 5:30 p.m. when we left to go to Ann & Jim's.  Very comforting to have it finally arrive.  Have to admit though.....the ground fogs later and the cool temps ( I had a jacket and lap robe ) were not what I was hoping for.

I really like the 4th. of July.  Just seems to me it's hard not to feel cheery for the most part.  I have always loved fireworks though my bil's scoff.  Having lived in the L.A. area for so long where fireworks was a nightly event they don't care to see them.  Well, now we don't see them but usually once a yr. and I don't like to miss it.

Nice to hear someone tried a recipe...glad you liked it Blackjack.  My repertoire is generally all the easy things I can find.

Well I need to get going has Dh has some plan up his sleeve ( hope I like it, whatever it is ) so I'll be back later.

    See ya then.

    Good morning, girls!

Hope everyone had a good 4th! Daughter #1's cookout was a success, attended by Daughter #2 and family and a bunch of their friends. My niece (newly married) and husband and another niece came, so I got to present them with their wedding scrapbook. They really liked it, so it was worth all the work. (By the way, these numbers on my five daughters do not signify order of favoritism. They are by age!) We drove out near the fairgrounds to see the fireworks and the grandkids were properly thrilled with the sights. Also the sparklers and "snakes".

Jackie, thanks for the other two recipes! Wow. You have quite a repertoire! I'm glad the pics arrived. Always worry about the mail. (Can't say that around Son-in-law #1 - also by age of daughter, not favorite - he's a mail carrier.) Glad you got to be home for the holiday.

Deena and Elleng - good luck next Friday on the rads. Elleng, I must have missed your earlier post.

JulieR - again, thinking of you and hope you are able to relax this weekend before your surgery on Monday. Will be checking the site Monday evening to get Blackjack's report from your BF.

Thanks - more ant info. I'm going to look for HomeDefense. I have to say, there are fewer of the little buggers since I put out the two ant traps. Those plastic things that are circular. JulieR, I've never heard of the baby powder deal. It reminds me of something they used to recommend about flour and mice but I don't remember what that one was. Anyone know? Then there is beer and slugs. . .

Well, got Daughter #3's flowers watered for her (they are at Lake of the Ozarks) and my cole slaw made for tonight's cook out, so need to get in the shower and head for DH's uncle and aunt's 60th wedding anniversary celebration.  60 years, amazing, huh?

    Everyone, have a great day!

We had a great 4th.  We pretty much took it easy for most of the day.  Then left about 3pm to go to Peoria for the fireworks.  They were the best I have seen in many years.  We will be going again next year.

Michele....Sounds like you had fun boating around and stuff.  Wish I could be there.  I havn't been boating in a long time.  Have fun with your daughters friends this weekend.

Wendy...glad your back was feeling good yesterday.  Hope it stays that way.

The shingles have finally healed.  I was off work all last week.  I am so ready to go back.  I really enjoy my job.  I go see the plastic surgeon on Monday.  Can't wait to hear what she has to say.

We go on vacation in 3 weeks for about 2 weeks.  We plan on going to Nashville or Mephis for two days.  We haven't decide on which one we want to go to.  After that we are going to Atlanta, Georia for a few days. We are planning on going to Stone Mountain Park.  Looks like lots of fun. Then we go off to Columbia, SC for a week.  We are staying with my brother-in-law and sister-in-law.  We are pretty excited about that.  We might have a chance to move down there with my dh's job, so we want to check it out more.  We had gone there last year and really liked it.  And with a chance to telecommute for his job, we are thinking of moving down there.  But that is not a for sure thing yet.

Well, that's about it for now.  I'll update you all on Monday with what the surgeon said.

Jule BIG HUGS.... Can't the dentist at least put a temporary filling in, till you are stronger? Last thing you need now is a toothache!! I have used wax for braces to cover a sharp tooth edge before may want to try it if it gets to bothering you.

    Hope everyone had a "Bang-up" 4th.

Better get back to work will check back later

    Hey ladies,

Thank you all who sent me PM's on docs nearby.  I haven't gotten anywhere on my quest to report the evil nurse.  Seems like if you go to a huge place like U of C, you just sorta get lost in the numbers.  Argh.  I have gotten better at telling myself that a sucky nurse is ok to deal with if I have an amazing onc.

    Love and prayers, Deb

Morning!  Alright ladies....let's get up and moving!  One,two, One, two...get those arms up and moving......

Jule....I agree with Karin...couldn't they just put a temp filling in for you?  I can't believe that they will just let the cavity sit there.  Doesn't sound quite right, but then...what do I know????

Deb...an amazing onc is a good thing!  Maybe...could you just sit down with the nurse and tell her your thoughts on her attitude?

Ginny....glad you are feeling so much better!  Your trip sounds very nice indeed.

MaryJane....wow!  You've had quite the time with family!

Blackjack...how did the "baby-sitting" go???  lol

What a mess with that mouthwash!  He used towels and throw rugs, even the bath mat to soak it up!  What....couldn't have used the roll of paper towels?  I've washed that floor 3x and it still feels a bit sticky but if I do say so myself...the room smells minty fresh!  And I haven't seen any ants since spraying that stuff around outside.  My back was terrible yesterday...I think I overdid the hamstring stretches and pulled a hamstring!  Good gosh!  Does anyone have a "sleep number" bed?  We've had our mattress for 20 years and altho it is in great shape (we spent $$$$$$$ on it) I am thinking that I need much more support as the mornings are really terrible.  They're fairly expensive so I was just wondering if anyone had one, or knew someone who had one.  As DH likes squishy and I like hard I thought this might be the route to go.

Time to hit the floor for all my exercises, but no more hamstring work until I go to PT tomorrow...need to ask the therapist if I screwed something up.  Have a great day everyone!  I am going to try and get the hot rod out today and take a little ride.  Only trouble is...DH always says "Could you turn down that stereo?".  He's no fun.

    Moring Ladies,

Hope everyone is having a great weekend. Just got off the lake and went for a am boat ride. The lake was like glass so calm and peaceful. Just me and the fishermen...I feel so renewed and energized when I am on the water. I think I should have been a mermaid. lol  Anyway the kids are still sleeping..bodies everywhere...they had way to much fun last noc. We were doing sippy cups..anyone remember those from college days. I feel like a hall monitor..lol But they are all good kids. They are having a great time. But I know I will need a vacation when they leave...way to much laundry and cleaning. ugh.

We had a celebrity in our little town this weekend...Jessica Simpson and Tony Roma were at Hernandez Restaurant. They were up here to visit his parents who live in Burlington, Wisc. They were very cordial to the local people and even let them take pics of them. Nice to see that they can be normal...

Oh I have to run..I here the bodies waking up as we are going out on the lake this am. Wave-running today...I am going to teach them to race on the wave runner. Its me against the boys.

But I know I will win...I have the fastest machine.!! Hope everyone has a great weekend...Enjoy the hot sunshine.. Will ck back later.

    Remember to healthy...be happy..
