Hi there!
Wendy...so glad to see you back! It sounds like you enjoyed your trip and I'm so glad that you did!
Laura...do you feel like you've lifted a brick off your shoulders? I'm sure that you made the right decision! Sometimes our decisions are just so hard and then it's such a relief when we finally decide what is right for us. As for your outing on the 9th, I am sorry to say that I won't be able to make it. Some of the teachers from my past are also having a gathering and I'm pretty committed to that. I do want to do the walk this Fall, though, so hope to see many of you there ....if not before.
Karin...so glad that your boss is doing well. In the midst of taking on all this extra work, please find special time for yourself because you are indeed a special person.
Connie...so glad you're enjoying the summer with your family. You've certainly got your priorities in the right place and it's nice to hear about all the fun things you do together.
Jackie...I bet you're really enjoying "HOME" this week. I'm so glad that the travelling is over for you now. It doesn't sound like any of the after treatment blues have hit you!
Blackjack...enjoy your time with your kids, too. It won't be long and it will be back to school again! I'm sure that Susan has already realized this, too.
Hope you're doing O.K. now Leesa!
Hi to everyone else! I'm off to chase down some good produce at the market!
Rita

Ok Laura, I had thought of driving up to Rita's and going with her to your house on the 9th. As she is committed to something else I'm out of ideas. I am glad to have finally heard from Karin. I was beginning to wonder if she was being over-worked.....not so bad if you are over-paid but most people aren't. Glad things are going ok, but do what Rita says and make sure to have some special time for you.
No blues have hit me yet. Been thinking about that and while I may have a time or two I'm thinking they will be very minimal strictly DUE to the fact I've already decided not to have them. Am I good enough to make that stick---obviously I'm not sure so I put that little caveat in there, but going forward is what I'm up to.
I did get a bit of a burn from the last of the boosts. Thankfully, Karin sent relief for me so it is not going to be a biggie. In fact, I already have what looks like some peeling getting ready to take place ( ouchy ) around the nipple so I'm no my wait to great healing.
Well, since I don't start work until next week, I'm taking this time ( I pick really not days ) to clean my car as throughly as I can inside ----- I use to do that every month to 6 weeks, and wash my car here at home every week. Didn't happen for quite some time, but nothing like getting back to a normal life ----- meaning a lot of work, but a whole lot of it that I really enjoy. Like a really clean car.
I'll be checking again later. Should be time soon to here from Mary Jane.....and there are a few others who are being silent types......hope you are all well.
Jackie

Speaking of the walk this fall...
TEAM NO SURRENDER lives on...I have registered us...if you would like to join us...here's the linkie!:
I founded Team NO SURRENDER back in 2006...I had just finished all treatment and thought it would be a great way for my family and friends to "feel involved" and be a part of my journey. Each year since...our team has grown by leaps and bounds! This is a great opportunity to give back and be involved with an incredible organization...Komen! Kids are welcome...they feel so very special and it gives them a sense of involvement...they feel as though they "are doing something good". This year, I am going to make more signs with our team name on them, for the kids to hold though the walk. You can do the 3 mile walk or the 1 mile fun walk...either way...we meet at the same meeting place and end up at the same meeting place. That morning, we all meet at the Survivor Tent. The Survivors are entitled to bagels, coffee, lots of freebies, etc. There is space just outside of the Survivor's Tent, for family and friends to hang out. It's truly a special event...one that you will never forget or regret!
So...if you want to join us, be among friends and take a leasurely stroll along our beautiful lake front...please do so! Join before September 12th and you will save yourself the time and trouble of checking in on race day. If you do register b/4 then...I will be giving you your t-shirts, etc. on the morning of the race. This way you won't have to wait in a long line at the event.
Any questions...please PM me and I will be happy to respond by way of phone or PM.
Team NO SURRENDER Rocks On!

Thanks Karin for the wishes. Any thoughts anyone for combating the weight gain? I have gained several pounds, feel yucky, and stomach is killing me. Doc says it's the steroids which I am tired of hearing. Already needed to lose weight and now more of an issue and I still have 2 more tx. I think part of it is the really nasty taste in my mouth which is constant as well as the nausea too. Anyway any help would be appreciated.

Hey.....A VERY Happy Birthday to Jule and Leesa!!!!!!!!! And Many, Many more!!!!!
Jule....altho I gained no weight on chemo I've heard over and over chemo is no time to go on a diet. That being said...maybe just try to do more exercising/walking when you are feeling up to it. Steroids can cause all sorts of weight/tummy issues but you will be off of them soon. Hold on honey...only 2 more and two is such a small number! Now...wasn't I a BIG help?
What has happened to Smerf? Is she on vacation?
Blackjack...how was the move for your dd? New home looking good I know...need pics so we can drool. Is the old one sold yet?
Chemo girls....how are you faring? If you think about it, the time is going by fast. Don't think that if I forget to mention you by name that I have forgotten what you are going thru. But you will get there . by hook or by crook.......and that's another thing that may or may not happen to you after chemo. You start saying all these old sayings....I actually said "okey-dokey-artichokey" down in Florida and the looks I got!!!!! Just another little thing for you to look forward to...
Jackie....both of my cars could use some cleaning and we won't even discuss DH's "cr*pmobile"...I won't even ride in the thing!
Laura...so what are you doing with all your free time? OH...you gave them notice so I guess you are still working. When's your time your time again?
JanClare....how are you?
Still haven't gone back and printed out so I know I am missing some stuff...I'll get caught up with you!
Thought I would pass on some little things that happened on our trip...we started off at the airport being told that for "some reason they couldn't figure out, maybe it's the windshield" that they couldn't do the the pre-flight pressurization. So they replaced one shield and that didn't work. Then they replaced another one. Nope. Then another one. Nope. Then they went back and started replacing seals. Nope, nope and nope. Okay..now 2 hours late. They started looking for another plane. Another hour goes by...but that's sorta okay...who the heck wanted to get on that plane anyway! Finally...they tell us to RUN quickly to the gate across the hall and get on the plane...same type so we didn't need to fix up seat numbers. And off we went. Got to Florida about 3.5 hours late so it is now full dark and pouring. Got to the hotel and the kitchen was closed. Finally ended up having McDonalds at 12:30am! So much for day one!
Hope everyone has a great day today. Haven't even started the Z yet....hope it isn't dead again! PT is at 9:30, tomorrow as well. DH goes back to school bright and early on Friday...and I will be standing the driveway, waving good-bye. And then I am planning a "Wendy" day....I will either clean the whole house top to bottom, or sit on the deck and do nothing. Or out to lunch with someone if I can find someone who isn't crazed with summer stuff to do!
Catch you all later.......

Good morning all Cooler today but showers all day as well. At least it will take longer for us to get 'brown' this year. Almost refreshing, but there is a little detail work on my car I won't get to do. Later, on the week-end it's going to be very hot with lots of humidity....oh joy.
Jule, I lost wt. on chemo---about 27 #'s but it wasn't a very pleasant thing. And you have to remember---when you are losing wt. in an un-controlled fashion like that it will not come off where it should--but mainly in muscle. Often ( except for my face ) you don't even look much like you have lost. It's not a good time to "diet"----- the chemo just got to me and while I weighed too much ( and still do since I need to lost about 25 more lbs., ) I did not really want the wt. loss to happen then.
I found out an interesting item yesterday. Another friend of mine ( she is from th Naperville area but never got on this thread ) thought she was getting a sinus infection....saw her Oncologist who told her at the first sign of something to get in and be checked. She has been done with her txs. now for a yr. and a half. Turns out she had ear infection starting---in both ears, sinus infection and the Oncologist said strep although did not test for that since the antibiotic would take care of all of it. The interesting part is that the Oncologist said the immune system is out of kilter for about five years after tx. I had no idea I would have to be careful about things that long. Now I wonder---did I ever read anything to that effect---or hear anyone say that.
Looks like Dh is going to go on vacation now before I do. Is going to Sioux Falls, South Dakota to visit his three children. Hope it is not scorching there, but you never know. I'm not so sure Aug. anywhere with 4 seasons is too nice.
Wendy if I were closer to you I would come clean your cars for you. It's not the washing ( though I do that often ) but the detail work that I enjoy. I guess I like to know if anyone gets in my car that it looks good as well as being clean---and I enjoy it for myself as well. Especially out here in the country where cars --- inside too --- can go downhill fast.
See ya'll a bit later.

Rita - I'm soooo bummed you won't be joining us...I was looking forward to seeing you!
Jackie - Hmmmmmmmmmm...how can we get your butt over here!
Wendy - Nope...I'm a free bird (as of last Monday). I have been putzin around here. On cloud nine...gonna go to the health club today. I've already started work on a new business venture. Last holiday season I designed my Birch Log Centerpiece. I am going to look into selling it to retail stores. My good friend wants to partner with me...she's an EXPERT at developing web sites. So...I'm looking into small business classes...how to get a loan, how to do Quick Books...etc. I have a lot to do!
blackjack - You're almost through with your project from he**! I bet it's gorgeous!

So how is everyone on this beautiful day. I am finally able to move around a little before my next chemo next Tuesday. I even got up and walked on the treadmill. I went to cheesecake factory on Michigan ave. yesterday, shopping at Macy's. You all are right..grab the good days and enjoy them thoroughly!

Happy Birthday Leesa!!! Hope you have a wonderfull Day!!!
Now am I just old or "out of the loop" what's with the "bump" I've seen it several times now, But I have no idea what it means......
I'm trying to catch up but you all "chat" so much!! I found walking did help me while I was on chemo. But I walk every day at my job. I walked a lot on the treadmill when the neuropathy started.
Not sure if it's this site acting up or my PC. will try to check back later
have a great day!

OK I just "researched" the "BUMP" Now I understand....and here I was thinking it was an emotional acronym! lol0

Laura...I still think you should go on the Spoon River Drive this October, get all kinds of good ideas, and then go home and design lots of things to sell. You could make all kinds of money and work at your own pace! :-)

Morning All! Just in case any of you guys have been complaining about the heat......hmmmmm...doesn't seem quite so bad now, does it? I'll take 90 over -10 any day!
Karin....I too had to research the "bump" thing but I still don't know what was being said...I know somebody with nothing better to do joined us and that is what is wrong with this site but that being said that is what is right about this site....gives lots of women a place to come and read and understand and get some answers without having to join. Can anyone PM or e-mail me with what was said? How's your boss by the way?
Laura....if I had any talent I would ask you for a job! Not looking forward to the winter months and working at Kohl's part-time is not exactly what I want to do, especially since they tend to put part-timers on at night until midnight and Sat and Sun. But they do give you health benefits....
Rita....you have a good idea for Laura! About how far from our area is Spoon River?
Susan....how's PT going? I see some patients getting tx for their necks and it looks very relaxing...all this massage and gentle stretching. How's the book? When is your first day back at school? DH goes tomorrow (YAY) but his teachers don't come back for another 2 weeks....except for the new ones cuz they like to come in early and decorate their rooms.
Leesa....hope your BD was GREAT! How's rads? How many left? Any ideas on the job front? Maybe you could work for Laura with me! Well....maybe not! Too much wine and too much laughing...we'd never get anything done!
WendyTY....hope chemo is treating you okay. I know so far it has not been your friend, side-effect wise. Hang in there honey....almost done!
All the Julie's......how are things going?
Jackie....so....what have you been up to? Hopefully you are not working all the time...take some time to be a lazy butt like me and sit on your beautiful deck! OH.....any both my cars are waiting for a little detailing.....
HensonChi.....cheesecake, huh? Glad your tummy is letting you eat something good instead of just popsicles and crackers! I was pretty lucky, nausea-wise, during chemo but even if I didn't feel sick I drank ginger-ale and ate rye toast or rye bread with a sandwich. The ginger settles your stomach and the little bit of ergot in the rye flour has a relaxing effect on the nervous system...and bet you guys didn't know that! Actually...that is part of why all those women were hanged (or is it hung...help Susan!) in the Salem Witch trials....ate some bread made with spoiled rye flour and they went a bit psycho, so the story goes. And of course some MAN decided they were witches! Probably had PMS as well!!!!!!! The women....not the men. Well...maybe not!
I did email Kater yesterday and she is just crazy busy with paper work....I told her we were all a bit worried about her, tho since she hasn't posted. So Kater......come back...you are sorely missed!
Hey Laura...forgot to ask...goat back yet? I had the Z out yesterday and I can actually sit quite comfortably in her now....not so a month ago! Jackie....she's needs DETAILING!!!!!!!
OK...bored you enuf with useless garbage this am. Off for my second cup and then off to shower and get to PT...and to tell her I won't be doing this one thing that she had me do yesterday, or at least not right now! Pain of course will never go away but I was REALLY comfortable and then spent 3 hours on the floor yesterday afternoon....AND THE FRICKIN CABLE WAS OUT!!!!! Maybe it's just that I used some more muscles that I haven't used in 40-odd years and they didn't like being "woken-up"! Everybody....check your posture and no more curling up on the couch, sitting on one leg!!!! Mama Wendy says.......
Have a wonderful day.....tops down, fists up!

Good morning ladies- I've missed you all. I'm still having off and on computer problems and my tech services (ie: my son) has his job and other commitments that prevent him from coming over right away to fix things. Hey, I want it done now!! But I'm not willing to pay for it!
I'm feeling better. My cracked tailbone seems to finally be healing. After about a week of off and on headaches (from the way I was sitting and holding my head, I'm pretty sure), things seems to go back to normal.
And, talk about chemo brain, I realized earlier last week that I had FORGOTTEN about a mini-vacation/ 4 day weekend I planned with some on-line friends to the Cape Ann, MA area last weekend. So then I had to scramble to get everything done before leaving very earlier Friday. Had a wonderful time, wonderful weather, ate too much and my only exercise was walking. Came home very late on Monday- to more computer problems. ACK!
More chemo brain- I wrote Birthday cards and some support cards to some of our Illinois Ladies while on the plane, then promptly forgot to mail them while in Mass. So they didn't get mailed until Tuesday, which meant I was late for Leesa's and Jule's birthdays. Hope they were happy, girls!
With the computer problems, I missed the whole "spambot" thing here at bc.org. Sounds like it was awful.
Jackie- If you can drive up, I can drive down to a town like Normal to pick you up. Only problem is that I can't drive you back Saturday night or Sunday. Is there someone else who could drive Jackie back??
Jule- I GAINED 20 lbs from the steroids. I knew that was a side effect and I just had to stop worrying about it. I've lost all of that weight since finishing treatment.
Oops, spent too long talking about me. I have to get ready for work, but wanted to just say Hello, welcome, to our new Illinois Gals.

Hi everyone,
I too could not find anything on here about the "bump" thingy. I think someone with too much time on their hands ( and I'm sure no cancer ) must have decided to have some fun. Well, I just look at it this way....I'd hate to be them on judgment day.
Speaking of that.....we have had it here for some time but Denny and I just got around to watching " The Five People You Meet In Heaven " last night and surprisingly it had great parallels to what I've felt and thought for quite some time.....that essentially we judge ourselves and not so much in a right or wrong way, but to find out if we learned ( grew our souls ) what we needed to in this life. Quite interesting and I truly enjoyed it and will watch it again.
Jan --- I'll check into Normal....and I'm still working with dates at this point to see if I can do anything at all. Dh changed his dates on me already ( found out last night ) and I won't know for a bit if it's approved for him at work so not even sure they will hold up.
Wendy...just run right on over here to the lake for your free car detailing. Guess that is where I need to go get a job --- but after you do, then you start to hate it, right !!!!!!
I checked with my friend, Donna Crow at my surgeon's office about the lymphedema sleeve. I need to go up to her office ( maybe soon ) as she says definitely, even with no sign of lymphedema you need the sleeve to fly. She will do a test on me and help me handle getting one and says the same thing you do Wendy.. correct measurements a must and cost about $45.00. Another thing I will have to take care to get done. Seems like things are starting to busy up on me now. Well, I still have lots of time....about a week before I have to go back to work so hopefully I can manage some of the BIGGER things that I need to get done. Best start making notes on the wall by my computer.
Well, I need to get off and running....s shower and then some mosquito bite applications....hmmm, they got me again. This is starting to be annoying. Talk to ya'll later.
Jackie
Are you back yet, Mary Jane ?????

Good Morning:
Wendy,
I had to look it up too but 'hanged' is the correct one when referring to an execution. 'Hung" is for drapes and stuff; yet it has become okay to use them interchangeably.
I will be there with the "new' teachers doing my bulletin boards as I need a helper what with my stupid neck. My daughter used to help me when I couldn't but she is working, so now my darling husband goes with me. This will be my last time! Rita, should I take pictures of each last? Have you heard about the Reverend Meeks sending the African American children on buses to the New Trier area schools (mine is one) on September 2? I have total sympathy as I worked in the Chicago Public Schools when I first started, 35 years ago, yet I strongly question the approach. I do not have answers, but we do have an unfair school system up here. We are very segregated by geography.
My conference at Northwestern is on the 13th, 14th and 15th. I have actually just half of the "book" completed. I have to pay someone there to review it, along with what I have to pay this editor. So I am hardly boasting about anything as this is an expensive "luxury" I am giving to myself. It is one of those "all my life I wanted to try" dreams and so I felt I should do it.
Kater, I too miss your posts. You are such a kind person and you always extend yourself. We know you are busy but just pipe up a bit for our sake. JanClare, I cannot imagine you with 20 extra pounds. You have the best little figure! Blackjack and other school workers....UGH! What happened to the summer?
I have missed a ton of people. Just looked at the clock and realized I have to places to go and things to do. Have a wonderful day!
Susan

A quick hello to everyone! A friend is coming by with lunch in about 20 minutes
JanClare - OUCH. I didn't know about your tailbone until now. I broke my tailbone 6 years ago, I truly feel your pain hon!! I am glad to hear that it is feeling better.
Leesa and Jule - Happy (belated) Birthday to you!! I hope you had wonderful special days & that you were pampered, spoiled, all that good stuff.
WendyK - Snow. Is. Evil. You will never, ever hear me complain about the heat, lol. I hate winter, and after seeing that photo, I was like "noooooooooo". The photo itself is cute as heck tho!!
Saw the onco. Went over my recur rates & all that stuff. Chemo would only increase my survival rate by like 1-2%. All docs do agree that they want me on tamoxifen (duck - Blackjack is throwing a shoe at my doctors!) and I am doing my research at this time, but I will probably give it a go, as stats show it will cut my recur rate in half. So - no chemotherapy for me, and I have to say I am very happy.
Saw my BS yesterday & just broke down crying because of all the pain I've been in. He gave me a new pain RX & it seems to be helping. I go to PS for my first fill today (yikes). Drain is still in - Monday will be 4 weeks. I'm sort of getting used to it, lol.
That's all for me... hope you all have a great day. Big hugs to everyone!!!! Julie R
